[QUESTION] Dependencies for Phone Canvas? - Windows Mobile

I want to cook a ROM without Manila, but with Huashan Phone Canvas.
I know that is possible to cook a ROM with EzInput but without Manila, if you also cook in the dependency packages for EzInput.
So, my question is - which packages are dependencies for Huashan Phone Canvas?

Start reading from this thread it's "Resource (.DLL, .EXE, etc.)", especially
Dependency Walker
PEinfo
Have fun,

Thank you for your answer. I knew about that, i thought that I could save some time if someone already knows which packages I need for working Phone Canvas.
It doesn't matter if Huashan or oder Phone Canvas.

Try looking for the dependencies in the .dsm. And don't expect others to figure everything out for you, lol.

Be careful with your words - I am looking and searching myself. But why should I look if someone already knows it? That is why we have the XDA Community - to share the knowledge.
You can "lol" on yourself.

Check here dude http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=49043742 these are all FarmerTed posts and ,as you can see, he does help a lot of people here.......i really dont think he needs to be careful by anything.......Now..this is only a laziness busisness, XDA community is great but it is not here for make the work for you......FarmerTed was kind to help you in the best way , for the rest take your precious 5 minutse of time to open a little file dsm ......this is only learning and it is far better then having the soup ready.

Hey "dude", no one is making work for me. And you should also be careful what you are saying. You are MOD but id doesn't give you right or freedom to tell what you want and how you want. You don't know me - so you shouldn't judge me.
This is Chef Central, and its meant to ask questions and give answers.
If you can help - nice, I am grateful for your help. If you can't, don't call it "laziness business" or tell me that I am "expecting others to figure everything out for me".
I am seeing how much FarmerTed is helping the Community. I also appreciate his help on my issue. What I don't like is when someone try to make himself important upon the others with their "lol" comments.

Look, sorry for the 'lol' comment. Lol. Anyway, I don't know what the mission statement is for this place (or anywhere else), but my feeling is that it's a good place to ask for help and get help-but 'help' doesn't strictly mean getting the answers to your questions. The first poster gave you help; I gave you a little help (suggesting that you look in the dsm for dependencies-that's what dsm's are for, but it may not answer your question). Anyway, you're much better off in the end learning how to answer your own questions then just having someone come along and answer them directly for you. Sharing techniques is more important than just sharing answers, imo.
Anyway, I suspect that there are threads out there that list the necessary dependencies for new HTC builds. Have you looked for any of them? That would be another approach. I honestly don't know the answer, as I use the stock MS phone canvas.

Thank you, Farmer Ted. I have looked, but i didn't found any specific Threads about Phone Canvas dependencies. But i followed the suggestion to take a look into the DSM file. I hope that i will find the solution.
I know that you also use the OSBuilder for cooking, strange thing is when i look into the DSM file in OSBuilder for dependencies, it shows me only the files that are in the Phone Canvas package.
I also think that is much better to give the hint for the right direction how to get the answer or solution by yourself, and not answering directly the question.
From asking this question I've learned that you can find allot from DSM files.
Thank you all for your help.

@ brainmaster:
look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5960216&postcount=3 there are some tools that allow you to check the dependencies that you need.
I feel sorry for my previous post but as FT said ,is better to learn the practice instead to have the direct solution, maybe i didnt explain my self better and i didnt use good words for that.

Alright, I used DSM Editor to find the dependencies of Phone Canvas Enhancement 2G v4.2.62520173131.0
But I could not find the given DSM file (the one specified as a dependency).
I've read through all the stickies about phone canvases, and searched to my wits end lol can't find a way to make any dialer work (not even the one from the ROM dump I used)!

Do you know of any other way to detect dependencies?
So, what you said earlier, there aren't any dependencies for phone canvas enhancement?
Does anyone have a working WVGA phone canvas ext package they could share? I can't get one to work for the life of me :/
Update: so far, from scouring the forums, here is what I can find for phone canvas dependencies:
-Contact Utility Engine
-Message Enhancement, must match Phone Canvas Enhancement version
Update 2:
-Doesn't seem to work unless paired with it's same version HTC Scroll package

Ha I just edited my post then I read that you posted this too
HTC Scroll definitely had a piece in this ha. I have a feeling that, of course, Microphone (the corresponding version) and one other package (whose name escapes me) will also affect phone canvas. We'll find out!
Regards
Smith

Ok, so here's an unofficial list of Phone Canvas Enhancement dependencies, for those of you who would like one:
-Contact Utility Engine
-Message Enhancement, must match Phone Canvas Enhancement version
-HTC Scroll
-PTT (Not always required, but it certainly was with the ATT dialer from the Rhodium 2.10 ship rom)
-Facebook Engine
-HTC Framework (thanks brainmaster)
Those are the packages which I've found it won't run without via process of elimination.
Regards
Smith

And don't forget the HTC Framework package.

Registry Tweeks....

Excuse me if this has already done the rounds or there is already a resource which accomplishes the same...
It would be great if we had a resource that included all the common registry tweeks in one place so that a quick scan through could find solutions to common problems that can be resolved with a simple registry tweek.
I invite you to add tweeks that you have found useful & would like to share....

Let me be the first say this now before this thread (or you) get flamed hard. There are way too many communities/forums/devices out there, conisisting of way too many stock and cooked roms. When it comes to reg tweaking, it's best to use the search feature here, (which is strongly recommended and encouraged).

There is the WiKi here, where I usually find and post registry tweaks.
Perfect just what I was after !!
There is the WiKi here, where I usually find and post registry tweaks.
Thanks for that.
How about tweaks to change how bluetooth is handled by different apps.
Appears that many of the available ROMs handle bluetooth differently & I'm assuming that this is largely due to registry settings. Does anyone have the low down on controlling the way the phone hands back control to audio manager after a call?

All Known Registry Edits

Hey guys I just want to say to ND4SPD, Shadowmike and the rest of you who have help in the wm6.1 ROM development, GREAT WORK. I just wanted to throw this thread up to get a response from everyone with edits. I know when I flash my phone to try new ROMs I have to search for all the registry edits. It would be easier if i could just go to one thread. So I hope this helps (plus the same questions wont get ask on every other thread). Thanks again.

You can't explore your phone using the registry editor....a registry editor is intended to help you make modifications to the system registry in order to make certain changes to the system.
A very useful tool I use is the CERegistryEditor by mdSoft (http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/).
It is very powerful & I can perform backups of the whole ssytem registry into the PC directly & even compare registry backups with the current active system registry to check for changes or modifications made by certain applications or settings.
Another advantage is that you can make use of the full QWERTY keyboard of your computer thus avoiding mistakes when modifying the registry on the phone/device using device-side registry editors (PHM RegEdit or dotFred's Task Manager).
This tool should give you a lot of mileage with whatever modifications you need to make.

[Q] Everlasting Questions

As many of you will have seen I've been quite active on this forum from the moment I joined. I want to figure everything out for myself as much as possible, but it's just not possible to look up (and find!) everything. Thus, here are the questions that I can't find an answer for myself:
1) How do I change the standard SW keyboard, without it resetting after a soft reset? (E.g. to blackstone keyboard)
2) How do I change a registry value, without it resetting after a soft reset, when it normally does? (For instance the value whether your headset is plugged in, I want it to be default ON.)
3) How can I extract a cab file from a ROM? I would like to get WLive messenger from the stock ROM, but I just can't find a guide anywhere!
4) Is there a way to fix the problem that occurs with the HW keyboard when Blackstone SW keyboard is installed? The problem is the first keytap not being registered correctly, so the first letter ends up being the second or later. Call it input lag.
I intend to add the found answers to this post, as well as add other hard to answer questions others may have. That is, if an answer exists. Thanks in advance for those who try to help.

1) How do I change the standard SW keyboard, without it resetting after a soft reset? (E.g. to blackstone keyboard)
Use either Sktools to set it as default (it then uses a small program that starts up in startup folder) or Sipchange http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271008 (not certain if this one works anymore)
2) How do I change a registry value, without it resetting after a soft reset, when it normally does? (For instance the value whether your headset is plugged in, I want it to be default ON.)
the headset is a tricky one, one way would be to run a script (mortscript maybe) to change the reg entry at startup, but I don't know how often the headset is polled (if at all) to check whether it's in or not).
3) How can I extract a cab file from a ROM? I would like to get WLive messenger from the stock ROM, but I just can't find a guide anywhere!
depends on whether it's a cab or not, unlikely. First you need to extract the rom, there are plenty of threads on this. but's it's obvious if you've tried a rom kitchen, you bung the ruu-signed.nbh in the baserom folder, start the kitchen.cmd and follow the instructions.
Then pour over all the folders and see if there's a cab. If there isn't you need to build one.
search for quickcab as a start (although that one doesn't allow you to import reg files (or *.rgu as they come out in the roms) so you have to do it manually.
4) Is there a way to fix the problem that occurs with the HW keyboard when Blackstone SW keyboard is installed? The problem is the first keytap not being registered correctly, so the first letter ends up being the second or later. Call it input lag.
use a different keyboard, I've not had this issue, but then I prefer the raphael one. There's plenty of other free keyboards about, lifes too short to work out why the software keyboard off one piece of hardware doesn't work with another.. ;P

Also, I've got tools to create a cab, but extracting a ROM the way you proposed will probably prove difficult, I'll look into it.
The headset value is polled by for instance the FM radio and audiobooster from HTC.

extracting the rom really is easy, the kitchens make it simple..
that new rom kitchen I linked to makes it even easier, but I still prefer the out and out gui pleasantness that's Pofs Linux rom kitchen
I don't mind answering your's and gtrabs questions, they seem to be the right questions !
just noticed I'm rapidly approaching a kilo posts, must make sure it's not a grumpy post that one...
I managed to miss some text out, but basically when you find the folder containing your desired files take the files out of the folder you want, including the corresponding 409 (or whatever language) folder and stick 'em in the cab software pretty easy to do .
Sometimes it doesn't work so try changing something or try to see if there's a dependency that's missing.
it's really not as secret or hard to do as it's sometimes is made out to be. The hard work has been done by the genius who write the software to let us do this.
turns out it's Smabergs keyboard I use..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2966597
Ah, very nice. Thanks. I've tried smabergs, it has some bugs (landscape mode broken) and it doesn't seem to be supported anymore. Will tinker around with it a bit, as it's good for portrait mode. (Blackstone, but then without the bugs!)
Of course you can find the anwsers to the blackstone cabs, if you would search them all individuality.
I found numerous people asking this question. Call them lazy, but this forum does not make it easier to find information in a convenient way. All i want is to make a nice overview of what all the cabs do and what they look like.
Member Norti has done the same with all the programs/tweaks. If you continue your statement you might also think that topic is unnecessary. I think this forum is very unorganized. Do you think its strange that people keep asking the same questions? I think the problem here is not in the hands of the people asking, but in the forums way of storing data. The search function is not a great tool to search with. Does anyone have some input so we kan make it better?
Maybe this is the wrong topic to post this in, but i thought it was a question many would like to have answered...

Fair enough. Do me a favor and move that post to a seperate topic, it's quite long.

CabCache - All the cabs in one place

Hi peoples,
I have had a windows mobile phone for years, mostly thanks to the support of people on here who have been able to answer virtually every question about tweaks, enhancements etc and therefore stopped me throwing it out of the window. I currently have an HD2 and, again thanks to the people on here, I love it.
The only problem I've had is being able to find the tweaks and CABs without trawling through pages and pages of forum speak.
so, I've created a site call the cabcache.
The idea is to make it easy to find the cabs and tweaks, through a simple search.
it's in its early form as it's going to take me a while to collate all the tweaks and cabs available, but I'm adding more and more every day. If you would like to help me build the site, please get in touch.
I've tried (and will strive to) give credit to everyone who owns the cabs and tweaks. If you see something on the site that isn't giving you the credit you deserve, please get in touch. Similarly, please get in touch if you see one of your offerings that you would like removed.
At the moment, you cannot upload your own cabs (removed due to previous abuse) but this will be re-instated shortly (about a week I think once I've reconfigured the code)
so, if you want to help me out, please PM me, or get in touch through the site.
many thanks.
very good idea
Have just checked out the site and it is looking very good so far. Clear, concise and easy to use, perfect.
A cracking idea which will save a lot of time.
Keep up the good work and I hope you get the support the site deserves.
this is a great idea, hope it realy takes off.

The only difference is that thread is currently 67 pages, making it difficult to search.
I just wanted to make it easier was all.
If you'd make use of some PHP + a database and integrate rate systems/upload features this could be pretty good.. Then it could also display screenshots, be categorized, reviewed, etc..
You could also make it device-specific categorized. Then you can ask the XdaMarketplace developers to integrate it into their app by creating an API and not only offer apps but also tweaks/sense mods for their phones directly.
Hi , even if you don't add loads of features as mentioned above, which would be great, as it it its very useful as a searchable portal to all the adjustments that can be made. I picked up on one already swype, that I hadn't seen listed thanks for that.

[Q] How are we supposed to know what to tick and untick in EXT packages?

Ok, so here is my dillema, as I am new to cooking, I have never yet had to update the EXT packages when a new base comes out, bobsbbq ticked and unticked what was needed and not needed when I made my first kitchen, using the Leo TMOUS 2.10 base packages. Not 2.11 is out and I need to work out what I need and dont need, so Im thinking that I should write down what is unticked now, and then use that as a guide for the 2.11 packages, good idea?
Also can anyone explain why certain things are and arent needed? I have the same problem when updating SYS to thanks. (Although some I can work out is because its Tmob stuff we dont need)
My general rule of thumb is this: if you don't know what it is, leave it in. Some things are obvious, like mp3 trimmer, manila or labyrinth. Leave them in or out, it's your choice. A lot of the non-obvious packages are just dll's that several different HTC apps may need to function. You can use a dependency scanner to see what apps need what, but that can be complicated. It's always a good idea to look in the package and see what's there, and look in the rgu's for clues.

Check the above thread.
I'll give a simple and straightforward answer to the very broad question..
Q:
How are we supposed to know what to tick and untick in EXT packages

A:
Read, search, read some more, build rom, more searching, read, read, build rom, read again, then search and read. Repeat, and rinse.
Hope that helps.

+1, yeah all packages in rom have a function.
The only way to find out is indeed logical thinking and your suggestion.

Great link, Thanks. I have often thought that this would be a great resource thread here.
I have also had a problem with this and many times the only answer is trial and error. Though the more I cook the better I am getting at figuring this stuff out by dissecting the package a little.
I know that "Search and you will find it" is a common (and overused IMHO) answer abound here but I have found that searching for package names rarely leads me in the right direction.

IMO, searching is important, but equally important is reading about things when you aren't necessarily searching for specific answers. Doing this, you will often find useful information by chance which you aren't really even actively searching for. I think the real lesson is to constantly keep up with as much of the latest developments as possible, even if you may find them unnecessary in your particular situation. This gained knowledge will only lead to a more fully holistic understanding of the cooking process, which is really the point.

i think this is very true i hear people complain all the time about how they cant search and find what they are looking for, but truth is that if you do enough reading you will find your answer and learn a whole lot more in the process

I had (and still have) the same problem. So I started to figure out what which package does. There are still packages that I haven't figured out yet but those I have figured out I've uploaded to a public Mercurial repository. You can find it here:
Code:
ttp://bitbucket.org/da_cug/cleanroom/overview
(just prepend "h" - I can't post URLs here yet)
If you don't want to clone the repository (or if you don't know what Mercurial is) you can click on the "Source" tab and browse the repository. The description of each package can be found in the "readme.txt" files within each package folder.
The (my) idea of this repository is that there is a central place for all packages/devices/languages to which users can contribute to (rather than each cook doing this on his/her own).
Note that the repository is not yet complete. I only upload packages for which I know (or think I know) what they're doing. Any help with this is appreciated. Just write me a message.
Looks interesting da_cug, xplain how we can helps you with this thing... its a magnific Info source.
