Why is the battery life so crappy on the new kernels/build? I have tried every combination of WM ROM and Radio but no dice. I am losing 5-7% an hour without the phone doing anything i.e. no data, sync, wifi, etc.
Please, guys/girls stop making new threads about battery life. There's already a very good and informative thread about this in this section. And all over the forums if you would just search a little first.

Should a new thread be made for Darkyy's rom battery drain discussion?
Would it be of any benefit?
Would it help keep the Darkyy rom thread cleaner for actual glitches / problems, and stop posts getting lost in a mine filed of battery trolling?
Darkyy would love to hear what you think mate .
There are plenty of battery drain threads out there but because people are using Darkyy's rom they feel they should post about it in the rom thread, instead of using the already available battery drain threads.
Vote and discuss please.
yes i think it should be investigated seperately from the rom thread , i dont think its the common battery issues people have . i think its a bug it the rom . take my experience with it for example
flashed from darky 8.0 to 9.0
did a wipe beforehand
within less than 12 hours the phone would not boot due to battery flat .
this was from a fully charged battery , with maybe 30 mins use at most .
went back to v 8.0 np at all
Those said said no, can we know why you disagree?
Flashed darkyy 9, I can go 3 days without charging ... tho I will admit i'm not a overly heavy user, and the phone is on wifi the entire time.. at the end of the 3 days i'm around 20% battery, so I find no drain problem here.

I personally don't believe its a problem with the rom at all other wise EVERYONE would have it which they don't. I can get about 3 days out of v9.1.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I get 1day and a few hours from it. 3 days if i dont use the phone at all

Are you using speedmod or voodoo?
Have you wiped the battery stats?
Did you do a wipe when you flashed to 9.1?
V9.1 carries over the battery stats from which ever rom you was using before i believe so there should be absoloutley no difference to your battery.
Theres an infinate amount of anomolies it could be theres no way to pin point the exact problem people have.
I have yeat to calibrate my battery, but indeed there is some kind of battery drain - no sync / no wifi and my battery goes down in around 12 hours. Still dont blame the ROM though, until I invesitigate and find the root cause for certain.
the battery jus drains quick in all darkys rom..the rom is gud but battry is a big issue.galaxy is kool wiv its color display but wats the fun wen u make a rom thts blacky jus to juice battry.but those who want snappy fast rom the darky is best.ive tested almost all diff roms an som r gud.everyone has a own choice.....
... and I'm sure someone will come soon and yell: Wrong forum section!

LOL yeah im waiting for that too mate.
At the end of the day though it would be better left here to stop flooding the rom thread.
People wont go to 2 different forums for one problem.
They will just keep flooding the rom thread...
Did you vote btw Darkyy? XD
actually with a fresh flash of 2.2 followed by 9.1 i see 3 times better battery
normal 2.2 lasted 3/4 a day
now 9.1+SO4_7_4 tests showing huge battery savings
will need a few days to give a detailed feedback on batt

that's a good idea..
think i'll try it too..
i said no because i get very good battery life with normal use - about 20-30 hours before it goes to 0.
9.1 with speedmod here, 1 day at most, no matter if I use or don't use the phone. Battery drain approx. 12% per hour, no matter if wifi is on or off...
Tried clearing battery stats, flashed wifi fix, removed self-updating widgets, no effect...
No offence but, dont we have enough Battery Drain threads around here? Im pretty sure we dont need rom/kernel specific battery drain threads, main thread will be spammed with it regardless of having this one (most of people around here are lazy to even read first post in the thread).
i was on darkys 9.1 and i found my battery drained quick, where as 8.0 was good
i dont use my phone much, i only use wifi when i need it, i only use gsm no 3g ever. everytime my phone goes back into my pocket i close all my apps thru task manager. bluetooth never gets used. i dont watch movies or play music. the only thing i do is play angry birds (that hammers my battery)
i still feel my battery life is poor and i have done all the methods to save its life like automatic brightness and NoLed ect.
shedding some light on this matter would be great... i think samsung should do something more about this... they can cram all this stuff into a tiny device, but yet they cant make a battery last more than 1-2days.
we can put a man on the moon... but an increased battery life is mind boggling ????

haha true
Too many variables. Everyone sets their phone up differently. I have been having pretty good battery life on 9.1 but I installed DU meter & I lost 40% in 3hrs. Its all dependant on whats running.
I dont see this as a ROM problem personally.
The Short Version:
Stock froyo downloaded from Samsung's website- My battery would die at work at around 1600, after being unplugged at 0600. We will say it lasted about 10 hours. With minimal usage, with looking at my battery reports my screen was used for maybe 15-20min.
Post root/Midnight ROM 4.2- it is now about 1600 and I have about 90% battery life left with 22min of screen time being used with obviously minimal usage after 10 hours.
Long version:
I was getting fed up with my battery life on my beloved epic and not being able to use it at all. So I decided to do some research and figure out this rooting and ROM flashing business. I KNEW it was not because of the apps and such that sprint blames the poor battery life on because I would monitor that and not use any at all while at work just to see and prove them wrong. I have the same apps installed post root as I did pre root with the same sync settings.
So in other words it is highly depressing that they put so much crap on this phone stock to kill the battery life with not even being used.
I am so happy now, I can actually use my phone without having to worry about being dead in 2 hours.
Thanks for everyone’s help with my flashing question and thanks for this great website as a resource.
Time to try out some different ROMs!
Sounds to be like your phone might of been fighting for a signal or something, maybe a PRL update would of fixed it... I was getting well over a day with the sprint rom.. and now with ACS Rom I get a little better.. but not much..
anyways.. congrats
Okay, got my EVO 4G and found that I had the same battery woes that everyone else does. I searched the web and found all of the phone tweaks and settings to improve battery life as I am sure everyone else did. That gave me varying degrees of success. Shortly I discovered rooting and that open a whole new world to me and my phone. Finding out that I could flash roms all by myself was exhilerating and fun. This also helped with my battery life and I now have what I think is a respectable battery life for a phone that will do all the things that an EVO4G will do. The last mod I did to my phone has taken the percentile increments out of the battery icon on the toolbar. Trust me folks this is a good thing and will make life simpler and allow you to move on to more important things. I am no longer a slave to the toolbar to see how much battery life I have left. If you must be able to access the exact percent at anytime, just download an app and go to that. If you feel the urge to check it more than once an hour, simple rub your earlobes and repeat "woosa" over and over again. It will be okay. Let's all do this now, before there is a need for a battery twelve step program. Woosa, woosa.
This is a funny post. I too have found that no percentage in the taskbar = less anxiety.
I enjoy my phone so much more now that have learned how to turn on my EVO Zen mode.
And today I find myself back sliding and tweaking my battery again.
I'd just get another battery, an extended battery for my EVO like the one here.
I may need to do this. I have an extended battery and my battery life has improved considerably but I find myself checking it all the time thinking something is eating my battery and I need to hunt it down and force close it. LOL
I updated to the newest CM7 a few days ago but it was doing all kinds of hinky stuff and my battery life went down to about 7 hours and it was using battery heavily even in airplane mode. I do back ups religiously so I just nanded back to the original CM7 stable and all is well again.
by life span i mean battery life.
when i am off work i leave my phone on the side and basically do nothing with it maybe make 1 call or send a txt the phone over a 9 hour period uses 12% battery i have monitored this over 6 days.
however when i go to work and sling my phone in my bag and leave it there all day it uses over 70% battery so i am curious why and how and if there is a way to reach a happy medium.
my phone is not rooted.
i find i am constantly turning off "watchon" and other naff samsung apps which i do not use.if i look in the settings/battery options "android os" is the biggest battery drain.
my phone is uk on o2 network baseband is N9005XXUDMJ7
is there a save way to root the note 3 and is there a list of stock apps that i can safely uninstall.
sorry for lame questions have not messed with android phones for a few years now.
cheers
If you have very weak, marginal signal, phone will constantly search and try to reconnect and that will kill the battery rather fast. If I had to speculate, somehow putting your phone inside the bag cuts the signal down and makes the phone work overtime trying to stay connected, either by location of the bag or the lining? But loosing 12 % over 8hrs is not stellar either, just for comparison my phone is on for 10hrs since last charge , I made 5 short phone calls, checked the weather and news on the web quickly and I'm at 95%, but I do have full bars in my office.
many thanks for taking the time to reply, my phone is stored in my work bag which is kept in the cab of a bus (i am a bus driver) i would tend to agree that the signal bars are very weak when i do take it out of my bag, maybe i sould it try it in my shirt pocket for a day and see what happens.
Even tho 70% drain is too high compared to 12%. I will still point out what earlier poster did. Signal is very important for battery life. If you have good signal, your battery life will be relatively better. Though you said that you are not rooted, you should go to my Battery Saving tips thread and look around for a few pointers to help with your battery troubles.

Rooting is SUPER easy. If you decide to, i explained steps to root here. For both Snapdragon and Exynos!

once again thanks for the reply, i followed alot of your battery saving tips and performance has improved greatly. i also think i was a victim of the android os bug i done the most basic of things and put the phone in airplane mode turned it off removed battery for about 5 minutes and then put battery back and turned on. android os is now way down the list of app draining processes ( it was at 68%) its now at like 6% so at the minute i am happy, mind you i am off work and my phone is not stuck in a bag lol
next to read your rooting guide.

One of the features I was really looking forward to on this new update, was battery and memory consumption. After a full charge and 12hrs of use, here are some screenshots of what it's looking like for me.
3:30 screen on time and still 25% battery life. On KitKat and Lollipop, using basically the same apps, I was nowhere near those numbers.
Find it amazing, specially knowing I almost doubled my usage today just to see what my numbers looked like. Looks like a great start with M6 for me. What's it looking like for you guys??
Battery discussion is in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2946742 both lollipop and marshmallow a new thread for battery really isn't necessary.
