first things first: the hd2 is my very first windows mobile device. i've already read the wiki and searched the forum/the internet for help, but i didn't find a solution for my problem. i'm also not a newcomer when it comes to flashing (i've gained some experience from my psp/wii/nokia n82/creative zen).
so i got my htc hd2 a few days ago and one of the first things i tried was flashing a rom (i didn't like the t-mobile branding).
i had absolutely no problems installing hspl (this forum was very informative) and flashing the artemis rom (i strictly followed the instructions), which i found in the rom developement sub forum. since everything seemed to work fine, i started adding my contacts and some applications, still no problems.
but after a while one of the apps seemed to have crashed and the phone became unresponsive.
i removed the battery and turned my phone back on, but it was stuck in the boot screen (the very first screen on which it says "r g d" in red at the bottom). since i didn't know what to do, i simply flashed the artemis rom another time and so the story repeats: at first everything worked fine and after a while the phone got stuck again.
after 4 tries i decided to switch to the shock star r9 rom (also found on xda), which also seemed to work fine at first, but it didn't take long for the phone to freeze again. i took out the battery again and turned the phone back on. this time (to my surprise) it didn't get stuck on bootup, but instead it (automatically) performed a hard reset. the phone now does a hardreset everytime i turn it back on, which makes it pretty much unusable...
since i'm getting REALLY tired of adding my email accounts/favorites/application shortcuts (by now i'm just installing them on the sd card, so i don't have to reinstall them)/facebook associations for my contacts/etc and i thought i'd better ask for help.
does anyone know what causes this issue and/or how i can solve this problem? help would be appreciated!
and since i'm here, what should i use to backup my phone (once it's running perfectly)? i already tried pim backup (sadly it doesn't create a backup of everything) and spb backup (freezes on registry recovery). would it be possible to create a rom that contains ALL of my information (settings/contacts/favorites/applications/registry tweaks/...)?
tl;dr:
my hd2 automatically performs a hardreset on bootup, how do i fix it?
please ignore any grammar errors, i'm tired and not a native english speaker
I have the same problem exactly regarding self-hard-reset. I still did not find any reasonable cause for this problem which is starting really to push on my nerves
This sounds to me like a corrupt file system, which can happen after ROM flashes. I would try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781
@Moandal: thanks for the answer. i just flashed the shock star rom again and the phone boots up normally again. but i really doubt that it will stay like this, unless i know what caused the problem. next time it happens, i'll try the program from your link.
but if i'm not mistaken, that program also hardresets the phone (correct me, if i'm wrong), so i could just flash a rom instead and that's what i'm trying to prevent (as i said, i don't want to have to enter my personal stuff again and again and again...).
what exactly could cause a corrupt file system? could it be a problem with the rom(s) or am i just doing something completely wrong?
A "simple" custom ROM flash only overwrites the ROM's contents without prior erasing, which on the HD2 has been found to sometimes cause trouble like the continuous hard resets you've suffered.
The solution is a full erase of the ROM before flashing the new ROM, which this mtty command does. So, you obviously can't do it without hard resetting/reflashing.
@kilrah: ok, that made things much clearer. i'm going to use the program posted above and flash the rom again, i hope that will fix future issues.
thanks for the fast help, guys
I had the same issues, at first I thought it was the artiums rom but having done MTTY walkthrough I'm 1 week into the Miri rom without much issues (apart from the odd program crash)
since it started pretty much straight away on the first rom, id be a little concerned that it might be an issue with the phone.
if it continues after you mtty/task 29 then id flash back to stock, including spl, and monitor that for a few days.
Code:
@samsamuel: since my last post the phone crashed only once (i was using opera 9.7 when it became unresponsive again), but this time it didn't perform a hard reset!
the main issue seems to be solved and that's good enough, for the time being.
if the problem occurs again, i'll follow your advice.
opera 9.7 - have you moved the cache to the memory card? I've had a lot of freezes the last few days with opera 9 7, turns out it was cos the cache was on the sd card (default 2 gig that came with it).
moved the cache to the phone yesterday, not a crash in 30 hours.
no, but i was actually going to. won't do it now, obviously
please help cause it went crash and hardreset by itself over again..... how can I fix this??
I thought I should share this with everyone in case it helps someone out there. I might have gotten lucky, so YMMV.
Basically like everyone else my SGS (I9000M from Bell) died due to an internal SD error, but in my case I haven't updated the phone since I got it in September 2010 (it had the JG9 firmware). The good thing is I was able to flash it to the stock Froyo 2.2, and I'm currently using it as normal and can access the internal SD without problems.
Summary of steps that most likely fixed the problem:
Go into recovery mode and "wipe data/factory reset". If your phone boots (but still have problems accessing the SD card) then it's a good indication that you maybe able to fix it.
Flash JL2 (from samfirmware.com) using ODIN. Not sure if this is needed, but you may need to ask ODIN to Re-partition. You still get an error "Can't mount DBDATA", and the phone won't boot. That's ok.
Flash the SpeedMod Kernel using ODIN (I used SpeedMod K12J with HZ=256). Your phone should boot into JL2 and the SD card should be accessible again.
At this point your internal SD card is fixed and you should be able to flash whatever you want. Just note that Kies will sometimes not work properly with the SpeedMod installed. In my case I flashed 2.1 (JH2) again (this won't work if you have 2.2 without speedmod kernel), then used Kies to update to 2.2 (JL2).
For those who are interested in the details, please read on.
Bought the phone in September, it's a Samsung Galaxy S I9000M from Bell. It says 10.07 on the back of the phone, and it had the JG9 firmware on it.
Since the 2.2 update came out I've been following closely the problem of the internal SD failures and the grief it's causing to a lot of people. So I decided to hold off updating until Samsung gets their act together. (I know it's better to update as soon as possible in case it dies so that I can use the warranty, but I had 9 months remaining so I decided to wait a little more.)
Close to the end of 2010 I noticed that my Android Market has changed, and that it now allows me to "Update All", so I just hit that and noticed that after updating several apps, all the remaining updates failed. I knew this wasn't a good sign. My SD card was still fine though.
After the above incident the phone felt a bit sluggish and less responsive than it used to be. I hadn't correlated this to anything yet, but now I know it was most probably due to the internal SD on its way to die.
On January 7 the phone suddenly died. When I rebooted it, I got the infamous symptom of seeing the S logo animation then black screen, then if I touch the two buttons at the bottom they light up indefinitely. At that point I knew it was the internal SD card.
I put the phone into recovery mode and confirmed my guess when I saw the red error message "Can't mount SDCARD".
I took the phone to the Bell store, the guy told me Bell now has an expedited shipping process for this problem and gave me a number to call to get a new replacement phone.
I called the number and they verified the symptoms with me, and said they're going to send me a new phone. I asked for the $100 credit but I was told I can't get it since I didn't update to 2.2. Apparently they only give you the credit if you actually tried to update and the update caused the phone to die (which doesn't make any sense to me).
So, while waiting for the new phone to arrive, I decided to try a few things. Here's what I did:
First thing I did was going into recovery mode and doing a "wipe data/factory reset". To my surprise, the phone actually booted after I did that, but I got force closes on almost all apps, and when I checked the internal SD card it wasn't mounted at all. The phone response was extremely slow and barely usable. I was able to make phone calls though.
I wondered if the SD problem is a corrupt partition rather than a physical error. After searching for a while I found someone posted a solution to fix a problem with his internal SD card by using the "parted" tool to mkfs the partition. Unfortunately I couldn't copy the tool using adb; my phone wasn't rooted and I couldn't access the SD card, so there was no place to copy the binary to. I get either a read-only error when trying to copy to the root, or a permission denied error when trying to copy to other mounted partitions.
Then I figured if I could flash 2.2 somehow (even if it doesn't work) I can try to ask Bell for the $100 credit Kies was useless as it couldn't recognize the phone, so I grabbed the stock JL2 firmware from samfirmware.com and used ODIN 1.7 to flash it. I asked it to Re-partition (not sure if this was needed). After reboot I saw another red error message, but this time it was complaining "Can't mount DBDATA" (as opposed to SDCARD). Then all reboots after that resulted in the same problem (S logo then black screen).
I searched for the "Can't mount DBDATA" error and found a post on xda that shows a method that should fix this by first using a 512 PIT file to repartition (no ROM involved), then flashing a stock firmware. I did that but it didn't help.
Then I found a site called "AKA skriller" that shows a way to reflash a stock firmware after the phone is bricked. So I followed the instructions by flashing a "nobrick" image (apparently made by someone called eugene), and then flashing a stock firmware. I flashed nobrick then JH2 in attempt to go back to 2.1. After doing this the phone went into a boot loop where it keeps showing the I9000M screen then rebooting. At that point I couldn't go into recovery mode, but I could go into download mode.
After searching again I found out that this was due to a new bootloader in 2.2 that prevents going back to a 2.1 firmware. I wanted to stop the boot loop so I flashed JL2 again, which stopped the boot loop but still the phone won't boot (black screen).
After more searching I found that I could go back to a 2.1 firmware only if I flash a custom kernel, someone suggesting the SpeedMod kernel (not sure if it has to be SpeedMod or any other kernel). So I flashed SpeedMod (I used SpeedMod K12J with HZ=256) using ODIN 1.52. First thing I got is a custom recovery menu with more options, I just skipped it and rebooted. THE PHONE ACTUALLY BOOTED this time into 2.2. Not only that, but the SDCARD problem was FIXED, and the phone was responsive and fast again.
I wanted to load my contacts again using Kies from a backup I made earlier. Kies recognized the phone but for some reason the contacts widget keep saying "please connect your phone" and I couldn't copy back my contacts.
I thought this might be due to the custom kernel and I was right. I flashed a stock 2.1 (JH2) with a bootloader included using ODIN. It just worked. I could copy my contacts again back to the phone.
I was also able to update to 2.2 (JL2) again using Kies this time, and it even kept my contacts. This is what I have now on the phone.
P.S. I can't post external links due to a restriction by the forum (since I'm new).
I had my doubts when I opened this thread... I've gone through 5 phones already and just finished killing my sixth...
I had tried flashing JL2 stock after killing it through the usual process (transferring over my music collection)... and got the EXACT same errors you wrote about.
What I didn't try was then flashing the custom kernel... so I tried that...
and it was too good to believe... didn't work for me. after the boot animation, display goes blank and buttons off... you can tell it's not going to work if it starts vibrating during boot.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you. As I said I might have been lucky.
Although that I just found another thread on androidforums where the guy managed to fix his sd card in a very similar way to what I described*. I actually haven't seen his post before I fixed my card, so it was independent.
Here are the commonalities between what I did and what he did:
* We both flashed a 2.2 firmware with a PIT file and Re-partition (using ODIN)
* We both got the black screen afterwards
* We both then flashed a custom kernel with no Re-partition
* We both got recovery menu right after flashing the kernel
* We both ended up in Android 2.2 aftwerwards with the SD card fixed
Here are the differences between us:
* I used JL2 firmware while he used JPM
* I used a 512 PIT while he used an 803 PIT (that's just what samfirmware.com said to use for each firmware)
* I flashed the firmware using ODIN 1.7 while he used ODIN 1.3
* I used the SpeedMod kernel while he used the YAOK kernel. He flashed using ODIN 1.3 while I flashed using ODIN 1.52.
* Once in the recovery menu I rebooted right away into 2.2, while he "ended up selecting every option that had something to do with mounting, formating, erasing. Anything to do and sounding to do with the SD card [he] pressed." then rebooted successfully with no SD card errors.

what slaman encountered was REAL hardware failure, like I did
what you encountered was just a Corrupt SD card, which can be fixed all the time, using the process you described, and many other methods.
Real hardware failure, even if you manage to boot into the OS, it will show no internal SD, or 0 available space, or simply an error message complaining about the internal SD
You can only see that with custom ROMs, with a stock ROM you wont even get past the black and white SGS logo screen
internal SD card
Hi,
I have followed a few discussions on this board as also my internal and external SD card was "gone". I couldn't access or mount it any more after flashing with Odin to european JPY 2.2.1 ... and I found out where at least my internal memory has gone.
In fact the internal memory couldn't be accessed after installing an exchange email account. My OWA account requires security like password protection and NO external SD card.... but it seems that version 2.2.1 does not make a difference between internal and external SD card and removes the access to both away. It looks like disappeared but it comes back after uninstalling your exchange email account.
May be this is all known and logic but I couldn't find the explanation to it therefore I would like to post the information.
Thanks
Thank you very much for this! I indeed had the mpbk01 (whatever) error, and did exactly what was posted above (using 512 pit, and 1.7 odin) and now have my pone working just fine.
Again, thanks a lot for the post!
Edit: While all this is true.. seems like i have 0.00b of internal phone storage available, so I cannot install any apps. The internal SD card space is reporting normal at 13.03gb though.
Glad it worked for you. Hope you can solve the internal phone storage problem though.
As I mentioned I might have been lucky, I don't expect everyone to be able to fix the internal SD card problem by just flashing custom roms/kernels. If it works for a few people then I'm happy I saved them the hassle of going through Bell to replace the phone.
just a suggestion to send it out for repair, before you run out of warranty

well I have this problem and cant get it sorted at all, it seems to have also created another partion and i have no idea how to wipe the sd card clear of all partions so it can recreate them!!!!
please help !!!
Hii there,
this thread seems to be very helpful, so I want to value your help with something in return. if any of you can get me out of this mess I will donate you appropriately so that you can constantly offer this helps to others too.
some details are as follow:
1. my Galaxy S (korean) M110s was on USB downloading Market update when I disconnected it abruptly to make a call. It was downloading some updates then.
2. moment than its showing SD card damage error and even showing 00 for external SD card which I inserted post that.
3. this means neither internal nor external SD card are being detected. Though it shows that ext SD card is mounted when I insert in and also let me unmoutn it.
BTW I have tried flashiing using odin and eclair 2.1 version which didnt help much.
Need urgent help
usb jig only gets me into download mode. and not recovery mode
so can Odin still get it to work while in download mode instead
It worked for me but I can't access the internal memory nor the external one. Hence, I can't use the camera or install any app. I don't have any kind of warranty so I believe this is the best I can get, right?! At least I can use as a phone and browse the internet!
Thanks for your help, even though it worked half-way for me!

It may fix your internal sd card problem permanently.
I know there is similars topics, but I want to describe my problem as somebody may have an answer for me.
I have tried many times installing WP7. WM (official) was working well, some WM custom roms bugged sometime.
I tried to install WP7, first flashing the ROM, there everything is OK.
If I have a SDcard, and if I reboot the phone, the phone starts, then when it gets to the start screen it freezes after 1 second (and the contact tile is still working for few seconds)
If I don't have a SDCard, the phone works well. But I can't use it with Zune, because it says it is a test phone or it is not well connected.
So as I saw there may be driver issues with the SDcard, I have tried the CAB method update.
I can install the 7403 version without problem, but I can't install the 7661 version without plugging the SDcard, because it says I don't have enough storage.
* 1st question: How do I know if the 500M storage capacity is unlocked?
Ok, so I have put the SDCard, done a hard reset from settings and launched the 2nd set of update to 7661 (why? just to be sure everything goes well... As it does not work all the time, I prefer to go step by step instead of going straight to 7720).
The update is OK, but now I can't go to 7720 anymore, because it says my storage is full (the card is recognized in settings, so I have 7Go available)
Ok, I restart the phone... Frozen again after booting.
It is really strange because the system is still working (some animations, the battery hiding, ...) but it becomes unresponsive.
Sometimes when I restart it doesn't freeze, but I don't know why or when it does.
Do you have any idea about what can I do?
I have tried 2 sdcards sandisk 8 and 16GB, it is EXACTLY the same. So it is probably more a problem coming either from the phone (card reader??) or the way I install (I cannot format the SD anymore because it is undetected under win, I don't have any nokia with sdcard phones, and don't have any linux installed, nor CD reader, so I haven't tried killdisk
I bought my phone in december 2009, 1 or 2 months after its release, so it is getting old, but I would prefer to keep it for at least 4 more months!
The last 2 months have been a real pain so I am really looking for a solution!
Hehe, after many many many tries, I finally got my fresh Mango!!
Everything is working well, with the same hardware, same sdcard, don't understand why but it works!
I have set all accounts possibles to be sure this time it won't bug. It seems to work!
I just have to send 1Gig of MP3 to be sure, take few more picture, and it should be ok!
So gooooooood
Anyway, Mango is much much better than initial WP7! Almost everything missing in WP7 is in 7.5!
What did I do? hum... Nothing special, just many times the same thing:
flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing, flashing
then...
flashing WM6.5 ROM (with SD)
flashing magldr
flashing Radio (or maybe not??)
flashing WP7 (with SD)
flashing deviceprovisioning
setting time
flashing to 7392
RESET because lack of space? or maybe it was the time before?
flashing to 7720
reset
playing with the phone
being happy and relaxed
I am playing alone here, but if someone comes:
Everything works, everything BUT zune...
I cannot connect my device to Zune, it is not recognized I don't know why, it has never been (maybe once, but long time ago, many flashes since!)
So if somebody knows what could be wrong... (my device time is set right, same as my computer)
"Can't connect to your phone. Disconnect it, restart it, then try connecting again"... always.
I got a "your phone is synced, disconnect to see the content" because i was on the marketplace, but nothing on the computer!
If I can't get it working, is there a way to send MP3s to it without Zune?
Well I see you got the problem solved, but just I case others come across the same issue, you remove the SD card before going to WP7 and update as far as U can with Zune, then update as far as U can with cabs. I think update 7463 requires an SD card so format it using windows and insert it and continue updating. From my understanding, it is something to do with the way WP7 treats SD cards and locks them and at some point its like the SD card gets forgotten so when U try to update, the card is locked so cannot be used. Look at xboxmod/yuki updatable wp7 v2 and there is also a cab to unlock the SD card as well as update cabs and some other useful stuff. There is a very good install guide. Oh and FYI, there is also a 1 shot update to go from 7004 to 7720 mango RTM. Takes about an hour to do but much easier.
Thanks, but... Being able to use mango, I won't flash anymore, it has been too painful to reach that!!
I have never been able to update with Zune, because it has never been recognized well. I have been able to update with cabs, hoping that would resolve itself with updates, but still have the same pb, can't connect to Zune...
My plan is to upload photos using skydrive, and put MP3 via... another way, I just have to find it!
Hi All,
Before anybody asks if i have checked in previous threads (i spent 4 and half hours). My problem is I have been rooting for a couple of years now, I have numerous Roms on my sd card (32Mg) but now when i put them on to my phone i noticed that i get errors on my TWRP but still allows me to get the Rom. When it starts up i get about 3 vibrates and it proceeds. When i try to download from playstore i get the minus 24 error code so i cant put anything on it from there, i have tried deleting previous from my internal memory but still no luck. What i want to know is can i in anyway put it back to the beginning ie restore. i have backed up my phone before but it cannot find it. Can i restore it from Odin (if so where do i get the source from?) also i have read that it can brick your phone if not followed right. Hope someone can help?
G'day all,
Hoping someone can help. (firstly I've searched on here over and over and some things have really helped, but can't find this issues on here)
Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 (originally with Vodafone rom)
Back story, I managed to put google rom via WINTEAM at some point in time (I don't recall how I did this now) this file - crdroid-6.0.0-20151208-jfltexx.zip (I still have this but not a md5 file)
Anyway, I wiped it under settings and basically stuffed it right up. Loops on WINTEAM (this part I had found in search and downloaded Odin3 v3.13) and Samsung Rom and a couple of others.
I9505XXUHOJ3_I9505VAUHOJ1_I9505XXUHOJ3_HOME.tar.md5
I9505XXUHQK1_I9505MAXHQK1_I9505XXUHQK1_HOME.tar.md5
I9505XXUHOL3_I9505TELHOL2_I9505XXUHOL3_HOME.tar.md5
CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5
The last one actually fixed up the google install but was hoping to place the original Samsung ROM back on and now it doesn't help at all when I run again.
The top 3 are Vodafone, Telstra and Max a forum had suggested (from a page on here somewhere). All of these say pass in Odin3 when installing onto phone. But once it gets to the Samsung with what looks like dots shooting out from the word it never gets past this at all.
When I power up the S4 phone, to get to download screen. I have volume up to download or volume down to restart phone. Some places I've read say to select wipe, I don' t have this option at all.
I saw an option to install s8 rom to s4 which I would like to do, but the how to do that requires working software first and install TWRN or something like that.
I'm not sure if this will run fast or ok on this phone, but it isn't a MD5 file either.
I would like Samsung ROM back on as it (for me cleaner than google or maybe just what I've been used to). I'd like to give to my youngest child as their first phone.
I also had tried to place zip files and also unzipped files on the SD card on the phone, nothing worked for me as it looks like it is expected ODIN3 to work.
At this stage of the day, I would just like to have it functioning again with anything that works.
Any advice on what to do now would be greatly appreciated, also I'm truly sorry if this problem has been documented, I really did try to do my research first before putting this up here. I've been on this for weeks now
So quick update. through more research, I have managed to install TWRP and now have access to additional utilities through WINTEAM. I've now tried to install ROM through the Micro SD card.
I think it comes up with a mount error, but has rebooted and still stuck so can confirm just yet.
I've managed to go through the entire process of installing the PurifieD+ROM+v3.5.zip through the micro SD card in the phone. Asked me about all the options etc during the install. There didn't appear to be any errors at all. Asked to reboot. etc....
I even had sound on the bootup, Now I have the Samsung word on the main screen with a blue backlight just flashing. Been like that for nearly 10 minutes. Not looking good.
Have I got bad memory or am I doing something wrong?
I managed to do a wipe after I did an install and it booted up find. I had no WiFi but than installed the vodafone install that should be the original and all works now.
The amount of time I had been working on this, I really didn't think I was going to get it going. I honestly thought I had some hardware error going on.
In the end it runs now, I can setup and had to my child
so I've managed to now use several different ROMs but now I can't root the phone (it should be able to, has been before)
When I run Motochopper I get this error
error: only position independent executables (PIE) are supported.
Seems to happen no matter what rom I've installed. I can't seem to find an older rom running android version 5.01 now
Any help on how to root this. Would be great
Now says it has been rooted, but I do not get the teamwin boot menu option at all. more like just a text style menu for wiping and loading other roms.
