Desire HD getting update around two months after New announced models are released in april.

Usually a ROM will leak from a device like the Desire S before it's even out, and that will have gingerbread and the new HTC sense on it - all it then needs is for someone to port it to the DHD (which shouldn't take long as they're nearly the same phone anyway - maybe a change to the dialler as the S has a front-facing camera) and then we'll see custom roms with it way before HTC could be bothered to release it.

there is a thread directly below your discussing GB, why start a new one? and this is only speculation, HTC has not announced anything, in my experience with HTC and updates, i wouldnt expect GB before august/september
I'm dissapointed, its obvious they have the update ready as the devices at MWC where running the new 2.3 and they looked fast and polished and the new Incredible S with almost identical hardware as the Desire HD was running it too!

Wrong. The Incredible S will be out with Android 2.2 at launch.
Hope we get the update as faster as the Increbile S at this point...

Yes, but why would anyone want to buy an Incredible S if they released a Gingerbread update for the Desire HD that made it just as good......??
Think business sport, this happened before with the HTC Hero and other phones

It must be 2.4, not 2.3, because I heard that HTC will skip 2.3 update and move straight to 2.4.. Watch Desire S hands on, it will include 2.4(I guess )

are they planning to release on all branded and unbranded dhd at the same time?
If they want me to ever buy a new htc in the future, they'd better keep giving updates faster. I hate competing with samsung galaxy s
When will G2 owners get 2.3 this is a stock phone

I just made a topic about this a few days ago.
The Nexus One just got their update, which clears the way for us. If you search for T-Mobile G2 Update on Google and go to the News tab, about 2 or 3 down there is a story about how HTC says the Desire, Desire HD, and Desire Z are supposedly all going to get Gingerbread in the spring. The G2 is just a rebranded Desire Z, so I'm hoping that we will get it around the same time (AND we don't have Sense to worry about). However, once HTC ships the update to T-mobile they get to tinker around with it, so realistically if HTC gets the Gingy update to T-mobile before they finish the Desire Z update which includes sense, they will probably still be released around the same time.
Keep in mind, T-Mobile stated after the Galaxy S scandal and JUST getting 2.2, that they pledged to release updates within 2 months of recieving them. So here's hoping!

Q2 so hopefully in May/June although that is a little ambitious. Also, "On a side note, it's yet to be determined if the G2, the Desire Z's U.S. brother will also be getting this update. No word from HTC on this matter. We'll do some digging and try to find some answers."

lol, something about that E-mail seems so... fishy? lol
not to hijack the thread but what is the galaxy s scandal you speak of?

hey matey, why do you think the email seems fishy? just asking lol
cheers
There seems to be a leaked gingerbread touchwiz build leaked for the i9000, also reports popping up of a gingerbread based motoblur rom for the DX.
Irony at its greatest!
I've just read that Gingerbread will be directly (officially) ported to the Desire Z by end of June? If so, 4 months left to that promised "quick update" from HTC.

Yeah matey... i can confirm this thank god... i emailed htc and they said the Desire Z.. Desire HD and the G2 will get updated in summer 2011.. although some are skeptical of the G2 update.. which is understandable.. i dont own a G2 so i really couldnt confirm if it will be updated, but the HTC support personnel did include the G2 in the list. soooo i guess its fingers crossed for the G2 people
I know many people like myself love custom Rom, however I just wanted to let people know that I have asked HTC support about the stock update to gingerbread and they replied:
Hi Lee,
We are excited to announce that (Use relevant phones from below) will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in summer 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability.
Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire, Evo, Evo Shift, MyTouch 4G, G2, Thunderbolt, Incredible-S, Incredible-S VZW
I hope this is of help anyone on the XDA forums that are interested.

This is the first time I've read about the G2 getting it as well. If it's true, then it's great news that we aren't being neglected.
Yeah i thought that at first matey
but those are HTC's exact words so it must be official
i cant wait... i do like custom roms but having an update that will be stock gingerbread to work off will be great. if the devs can get it rooted and s-off and maybe remove some of the rubbish we dont need then we will have a clean, rooted reliable stock rom which will be great... although as its stock it may need a few bug fixes but generally it should be pretty stable
You know, I just emailed HTC about the G2 the other day and the guy basically replied that they give updates based in carrier request, and they had not yet received an update request from t-mobile for the g2 as of this weekend.
So either my guy had no idea what her was talking about, or your guy is lying.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
really mate?
oh right well i hope it is coming to Desire Z and G2
that list is exactly what i have in my email.
i might question HTC support about the matter, just to see what they have to say, with they had a page which they posted future rom updates, it would make it a lot more easier and exciting lol
HTC didn't announce ICS update, despite its brothers getting it.
We assumed it was hardware limitations with the smaller RAM (512mb)
But now HTC have announced the new HTC One V with ICS and Sense 3.6/4.0.
And guess what? It only has 512mb aswell.
So RAM can't be the issue. Maybe CPU power?
Go pester HTC on Twitter/Facebook now for your update!

The issue is that HTC has A LOT of phones. The Desire Z has already received a major Android update. It is not a flagship phone, nor a big seller.
Or in short....$$$$$$$$.

True, but the Desire Hd (released at the same time) is getting the update.
And that phine hasn't just had one, or two or three major updates....
It's had FOUR MAJOR OS UPDATES.
that beats Apple with their iPhone 3gs.
It's gone from 2.2 all the way to 4.0 with numerous huge sense upgrades.

I think Nospin is right; commitment to the development of Android varies among different manufacturers. Commitment to profit does not. There is limited upside to them providing an upgrade. Chances are, we'll still purchase the next HTC phone when we get the money and/or discounted price with contract from our carriers, despite them choosing not to upgrade our phones. In other words, why provide us with an additional free service, when they're going to get our money in the future anyway. In fact, providing the upgrade might *deter* us from buying their latest and greatest.

That's cause the Desire HD IS a flagship device.
But I hope so, we will get custom ICS from HTC ONE V. I think it will be brilliant
I don't think the desire z will get a OTA update either. I think they plan it this way so that we have to upgrade and won't be content on sticking it out with our old devices. Either way the desire z will get ICS from cm9 most likely. It's taken longer then I wanted but I know it's in the works.
Just use Andromadus. I know it's not official, but you can rock it now. Which counts for a lot.

what my opinion is that HTC released the sense 3 OTA to make people either root, or upgrade.. my guess is that HTC will never release any OTA anymore

If this was Samsung, then I would agree with the Desire Z getting ICS. However HTC has already given us an unlocked bootloader as well as the source code for the Desire Z. There's no need for HTC to get involved anymore. This is exactly why places like XDA are important to the rest of us who "knows" our devices are still kicking strong because then we can just do the work ourselves. And besides, even if Desire Z does get an ICS update: the majority of us will still prefer Custom ROMs anyways. This way, everybody wins. HTC maintains a healthy reputation with us and we get to save some money.
heh, by "we", I mean the talented devs that still support our devices. I'm personally useless.

I agree, I think there would be two benefits of having ICS come officially to Desire Z / G2. First would be that that ROM would be a lot easier to modify and tinker with by the dev's then what they are working with currently. The second benefit would be in the form of less people asking for eta's on cm9. I would rather use a custom version of a rom than a stock rom, but the same doesn't go for everybody. I bet a lot of the traffic on xda is people just wanting ICS on their device period.
I can't wait when HTC relase HTC One V I think, we will get ICS with sense 4.0 with out of problems

But the camera driver for ICS issue remains... This is the "problem".
Here's how you can help with getting a camera source/driver from HTC email them asking for one

Its always hard to find out the type of camera is on what phone.. the only thing i could find for the One V camera is that it is also a 5MP camera. (Secretly hoping it has the same sensors as ours )
Anyways to get back on the ICS for DZ. I still would like to have it for this phone only because it will have a rotating launcher..

Wasn't HTC saying that they're using some kind of new "imaging chip" for enhancing their photos with their new lineup?
Also, did the Desire Z ever get an update to Sense 3.0?

ICS is coming to both the Desire HD and Desire S, both of which use the same chipset (including camera chip) as our phone. So the problem should be solved soon (One V probably won't be out much sooner, if at all).

If some developer port kernel from desire hd then probably we will have full working ICS with sense ui. Port from Desire HD is easy.
