I have a very strange problem with my wifi. Whenever I use a CM6 build, my wifi alot of times will say "operation timed out" when using the internet or xda app. I have no problems at all in Sense builds. That's the weird part. I have full wifi signal, right apn's and right dns settings. I can't for the life of me figure this out. Very frustrating. Have been dealing with this for the longest time. Has anybody else experienced this, or know of a solution to fix this?

hi mattfmartin,
try maybe define a static ip address to your wifi .
i cant really think about any logical reason for that.
hope it helps.
good luck

Yeah anything that isn't Sense it happens to. Its not a reception issue either. The wifi icon is full bars. Believe me, I've tried all build just to see. They all say after I try to load a new page "operation timed out".
I have this too. Whats your router?

Norpan it didn't get deleted. I opened up two threads. One in android general, the other is in Q&A because I wasn't getting amy replies from the other one. Do you have any suggestions my friend. I've even tried static ip with no luck. To answer your original question, it only happens to me in Non Sense builds.
Come one, come all. Hit this thread up
Dlink, but also a Linksys. It only happens to me on non sense builds. XDA etc stalls and needs a retry often... on the sense builds I've tried I have no problems.
Exact same with me. Especially using the XDA app. You would think alot more people would have thus problem.

Sorry for not replying as fast, is there any difference on how they handle networking sense/no sense? Sounds wierd :s does it time out on sleep only or when you are using it aswell?

I get that issue to now when i think about it. Sometimes mainly xda app keeps timing out on me..could it be non-sense builds keep accessing some port blocked by our router?

Yeah on sense it never times out. Just on nonsense builds. Also it times out when I'm using it. Don't know what its doing in sleep. My brother has a native android, and his never does this. Were using the same router. Been dealing with this for the longest time. Even tried static ip, changing dns values. Usually I can figure stuff out on my own, but this one I can't resolve. That's why I opened the thread to see if anybody else has seen this problem before. Your right about xda app doing it alot.
I have a desire z with cyanogenmod rom. while roaming in other countries, i try to register with certain networks to get unlimited data, but this error always occur and the phone just reg me with whatever network is strongest.
I flashed back to stock rom and this error is gone so i guess its cyanogens issue. anyone has a solution to help?
thanks!
I've tried the same thing! I get the same issue. I heard you change the apns but I tried to put in AT&Ts and when I get to the last prompt it doesn't save. Id love to use a diff. Network for data because my signal in my work is poor. I heard you can't get 3G is this true?

Does anyone know if there are limitations to wifi? I just moved into a new apt., and I barely get Edge networks... Cell reception sucks basically.
But I just set up my 15/2 internet and am also using a wireless router which shows maximum connectivity on my phone wherever I am in the apt. I am using the TMO wifi calling app, and have psyched it with the GB patch (since tmobile thinks I have froyo). But I have trouble with random texts sometimes, even more often with MMS. Also calls are droppped rather frequently.
Just curious and hoping there if something I can do.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
It can be picky. If you are using a faux kernel you will have alot of issues with mms. I have used every rom and every kernel combination, if you live in an area with no cell reception as I do... you rely on wifi calling for everything.
It is picky with wifi signal. As soon as I get a room or two from my router it will have issues. It sucks, but T-Mobile makes you have a pretty solid connection for it to work.
I have found fauxs aosp rom and ckisgns kernel to work damn near 100% for mms, txt and calls as long as I have good signal to the router.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Thanks... I might have to switch from CM7 and faux's BFS kernel.
I was 3 feet from my wireless router last night, and on the same 45 minute call, I was dropped FOUR times. I can't have a normal conversation, so I need to do something. I can live with spotty SMS/MMS, but I can't be dropping calls like that. I work from home often, and it would not look too good to talk to clients or whoever and continually be dropping calls every 5 to 15 minutes.
I will have to look into the AOSP ROM. I have only used CM from the beginning. I have a little fear of the unknown though, I have to admit.

Ok, but seriously, I am in a world of sh*t (<<-- actually isn't it hard to believe that private pyle from Full Metal Jacket is the same grey haired guy on Law and Order?....I still say that line to my girlfriend to freak her out... With an evil grin... "Hi.... Joker")
But anyway, I moved, and for whatever reason, in my old apartment, I had decent network coverage and full wifi and no problema, then I move, have spotty/sucky network coverage I understand, BUT I broke out an extra wireless router AND a wifi repeater I had laying around, and I can't even check the damn living wallpaper weather screensaver I have because my wifi gets dropped.
Someone above mentioned that faux123's kernels don't help the situation, but if I am going to switch ROMs--and I am not big on change in the first place--I want to know what I an looking for... I mean is this just like flashing a recommended ROM (thank you everyone, BTW) and hoping for the best? Does this have something to do with the NIC radio app? Or do I just have to clean off 200 mgbs or so of Keeley Hartzell pics (cyanogen joke)?
I am not going to drop $300 for a cell repeater, if I can just switch to a different ROM, but I don't want to be spending 12 hours flashing 10 different roms walking around my place going "No TMO, but I got access to Alltel, Cellular South, and the defunct Amp'd Network if anyone needs it."
Sorry, its morning and I guess I am a little cranky. [The new release of the perpetual beta Swype app is annoying me too. But swype is like a drug....you can't go back to hunt and peck after using it for a month.]
Thanks for everyone's input thus far and future suggestions in advance.

virtuous fusion works for me
besides virtuous fusion battery life being real sucky the phone connects to wifi calling with TMO just fine and sms and mms seem so far to be working fine ,granted i don't remember the last time i have had a 45 min conversation. sometimes you do have to turn off the wifi and then turn it back on to keep the wifi signal form cycling off and on.
i think your best bet is stock rom/radio/kernel combination. may be try that...
I don't mind going back to stock... Well isn't there a real live GB sense ROM now? I mean from another sense Leak?

The gb version of wifi calling is from the leaked mysense which was not an official release and hence might have some issues. But I am just guessing here thats why I suggest going back to stock (off course you can remain rooted when you try that).

Ok I have been reading and reading about how to solve this problem...and I have a TMO question... Anyone know anything about t-mobiles microcels that I hear will or are available at ~ $100 or so plus 1.99/month.
Is this just a wifi solution, our will this get me connected to the uma network?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
ok... not getting a lot of responses on the microcel question... And I need to flash something new quick...
I hate to ask these lameass questions... but what would be a good GB closest-to-stock ROM and kernel???? I would go all the way back to stock, but thought I would take baby steps, and try a GB sense ROM instead of CM7 (which is what I have now and had since February). Just chime in with any votes of approval... with network connectivity a rather important working consideration.
I read the virtuous fusion thread, and one of the gb sense thread, but it always hurts my head when I have to read about sense roms.....
Thanks as always in advance.....
If you don't want to try fusion sense, try evils espresso sense. It's gb with close to stock my sense. Used it for a little bit and works pretty well. I pick vf since it's prettier lol

I feel like that actress who plays the loony older sister in "Home For The Holidays" who looks at awe and wonder at how her porch light goes on when triggered by a motion sensor "magic!".
Virtuous Fusion made all my problems vanish like magic! Other than having to start from scratch on personalizing a theme for it, the sense ROM has exceeded all my expectations, and I now get a network signal in every corner of the house. Is this because of the radio app or just sense overall..? It is really dramatic.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Aosp rom's have lower wifi signal and slower data speeds by nature. Due to not having the full source code and such.
Glad its working for you.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Its amazing. I mean I loved the raw mold-ability of CM7, but I don't remember everything working in such a cohesive manner before. And I am sure most of it is theme-able, I just have to roll up my sleeves all over again...but still...wow.

Everything seemed to working earlier this week, however I was having more dropped calls so I checked wi-fi calling, and it turns out it is not on....
It says "invalid sim". Anyone have any idea why this might be or what is causing it? I am fixing permissions as i am at a loss of what else to do.

Hi,
I've a problem with the clock of my htc hd2.
I use the latest htc-WinMobile 6.5 on NAND and Xylos latest AOKP (NativeSD), started with clrcad/haret.
But: When I'm booting Android, then the clock sometimes changed to an other date (aug.2010). I correct the date and time in Android, reboot and start WinMobile and sometimes the time/date switch again : -( sometimes to 2014, sometimes to 2010... if I've 2010, then all certificates of the installed Win-Apps are invalid and I can't start them...
Does anyone know a solution or a reason why the happens?
Thanks all for the great roms and the cool NativeSD-Methode. It's realy fast and stable.

Try to boot into winmo, set date and time, save. Then reboot into winmo again and see that settings stick. Then boot into android.
I think the android auto settings looks like the phone has correct time but will revert on reboot.

Thanks for your replay.
I've tested it, but have again the same problem.
I also tested "automatic time"=on or =off in Android and in WinMobile, but same results
Has someone an other idea?

Im still running the froyo build from DFT but there are some problems, 3g doesn't work, WiFi works only after maybe 10 minutes then needs to re-activate WiFi, and calling sometimes does not work. It makes connection but the sound is distorting.
So. I'm looking for a Rom that only runs from my phone. No sense required. And hopeing that my 3 issues are resolved in this Rom.
I'm only running what'sapp, I surf a little and a couple of maybe 1mb apps, that's it basicly, so not much app data needed.
I'm hopeing there is a android 4.0 or higher Rom out there but 3.5 is really the minimum.
What Rom would you guys advise.
Thanks in advance!

NexusHD2 ICS, NexusHD2 Jelly Bean. Both ROMs are very fast and stable.
You can change the title yourself, just go to edit in the OP then advanced or something like that. As for ROMs, just pick one above ICS and flash it, you're probably going to like it.
Hi i installed nexushd2 ics and it works better then the froyo build
But the 3g is still not working. Im on vodafone network. Everything else seems to work fine. I installed it useing the nand install for leo 1024. It worked though.

I don't know the exact path but it goes something like this:
Settings > Network > Mobile Network > Access Point Names
If you see an empty screen, you don't have any APN set and you need to set up one by pressing the menu button > New APN.
A search could have possibly brought up the same thing.
Oh that, i thought there was something with the installation of my phone or something So many abbreviations i somethings go coocook xD
Well i checked and i set up the same APN as my One X, Same settings. Still no 3g
