Is it possible to maintain a phone conversation on the Droid X and use the Droid's microphone to record that conversation at the same time? I'm aware of the legal issues, just curious to know if anyone knows whether it's even technically feasible on the Droid X. Pretty sure BlackBerry phones don't allow it.
Thanks.
Well I just tested it and it looks like the answer is no. If I'm recording, and a phone call comes in, the recording stops. It resumes automatically, however, as soon as the call ends. Not sure if anyone else has tried this, but that was the result of my attempt.
What are you using to record? Maybe different apps have this capability.
Use google voice for your calls, press 4.

Hi!
Just got a N1 today!
Could someone please suggest a calls (voice) recoder that make GOOD recording of BOTH parties during conversation.
There's a trick on WinMo that let's you record the other person's voice in-line, not from the mic, thus making it very well heard. Then on top of that HTC In Call Recorder or anything else can be used.
Basically what do I need to do to record calls clearly on N1?
Thank you!
Google Voice has the ability to record calls. Sounds great, too. If I had an invite, I'd shoot you one.

win-win?
Can you explain why Google voice is advantageous for you? I understand its features, but I dont see why so many people are switching to using it. Do you use its benefits all that much? If so, which ones?
Thank you for the invite, but I indeed need to use my own mobile number. Any apps that don't record from the mic, but straight from the line?

I send texts via google.com/voice...I record some of my phone calls, as needed for work...
I keep trying to come up with some reason why having multiple numbers attached to my one phone is advantageous...but I can't.

There is no "Droid Recorder" in the market. There is Recordoid, but it records from the mic and not from the line directly

One of the comments in adrolib: "Well, just installed the apparently on nexus1. Auto record works fine however, I can only my voice get recorded and not the other side."
So far I haven't found an application that makes records directly from line and not from the mic
Ok. Thanks for the responces. Will stick with Topaz for now, will use N1 as a backup

Google Voice or recording from speaker are not satisfactory options for me Will wait for ROMs/programs that will be able to do it in the future.

it doesn't work with Motorola Droid/Milestone or Nexus One, ar any device which is coming with 2.0 or later....
I would like to record calls automatically (both my voice and the caller's one).
Is there some app that can do this?
Thank you all for answering
sorry for being an Android noob, but too many years into WM...

Thank you for your fast reply
I took the time to read the comments of the users, and they were far from enthusiastic....
Have you tried the app yourself?
How did it worked for you?
No call recording apps work, they only ever record your side of the convo unless on speaker phone. It's something to do with an android limitation. Not sure why there's not been one for rooted devices though, I'd pay for that.

I'm looking for this too. I had even bought Ultimate Voice Recorder based on good experience of it on WinMo, but it wasn't until after more than a week of it running in the background, generating loads of .3gp files did I notice that they were all 0 bytes long.
Kind of ridiculous that this works on 1.5/1.6, but not on 2.x.
using totalrecall here, works beautifully!
@DomFel, are you using a Desire? great news if total recall works on it...
Deleted post
total recall works on desire?
Felt it was necessary to bump this one. I have tested Total recall but it clearly states that it will not record for +2.0 devices.
I'm getting some very unpleasant calls from even more unpleasant people, and desperately need to record calls. Got a great recorder on Winmo (Audio touch note). Is it really so that Winmo haves something that Android even cant support?? I would be surprised if this was so!
Please let me know if you have a working app.
so am i.
im looking for in-call recorder app.. keep me posted..
Hey guys
I am using vRecorder on my desire and it works. There are some annoying features though:
First time you open the app, it will ask you to donate. Just press 0$ and afterwards press the back-button.
The following times when you open the app, it will show you a "commercial" asking you if you want to check out other apps from the developer.
It records all calls (in- and out-going), so there is no record button. It just always records all calls (it is possible to exclude numbers though).
Hope it helps, and let me know if you guys find a better app
Just tried vRecorder and it records my voice but not the other's. Other than that it's great
at mine there was a pre installed in call recorder...but its only called in-call recorder...nothing else..its build by HTC
Just tried vRecorder when I set up a new voicemail greeting. It recorded both sides and it was really good, but then it went rubbish. I worked out why-it's only recording from the microphone and first part when it was good was when I had it on speakerphone. It went really quiet after that, and was only audible as I was in a quiet room and my volume is high. Uninstalled...
Read this http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2117
Dont forget to star the issue.
So is there any info if this issue will be fixed in Froyo? Or if an app for a rooted Desire have turned up?
Total Recall dont work on my desire 2.2...
Hi all,
Amazing work with Android, thanks heaps to the community....
I wanted to ask if anyone has found call recording software that works, I have tried all the free software from market place and I also bought "Ultimate Voice Recorder" from the market place and it also doesn't seem to work.
Any help would be great.
not trying to flame but why do you need call recording
A wild guess would be to record calls
I'd also like to be able to do it.
if nothing on android doe any one know if there is anything for winmo?? recording a call would be very handy !!!
I use Vito Audio Notes in WM and it is brilliant, it automatically records all calls. I am out and about alot and don't have pen and paper available all the time so it is so handy to just have the calls recorded and then when I am back at the desk I can either enter into dairy or write down the message.
But Android just refuses to record the calls, It records that the call happened but thats it. I can record my voice from with in the same app so thats all working but it will not record the calls.
Anyone got this working?????
A semi working way to record a call is using Google voice. But it only records out going calls. It will also announce to the called that you are recording the conversation

Hi there i really want to be able to use the total recall call recorder with android on the hd2, so i'm glad to hear that its worked well for you
What android rom do you use and are both parties clear on the call recordings?
thanks in advance
Hello everybody,
Does Defy has auto call-recorder just like Moto XT701? If not, does there has any third party app can do that?
Doesn't seem like it. As far as apps im sure there are but i've never needed one so not sure.
Sent from my DEFY using XDA app
I suppose you can only record calls using the microphone+speakerphone on Defy, correct?
P.S. The XT701 has call recording? Sure?
2.2 roms have built in recorder
xt701 or defy?
just a voice recorder or 2-way call recording?
2.2 defy has 2 way call recording integrated in the firmware, it also sports built in firewall.
Really? Which 2.2 ROM are you rocking with?
You can do it with Google Voice, it’s really easy, just press 4 and it will start recording the conversation. You’ll find the conversation in your Voice control panel within a few minutes and you can send the recording to the other party easily from the control panel.
Guys, call recorder in Chinese 2.2 ROM is playing a recording sound...
I mean the person you are talking with (and you also) hear some beeps.
Is there any way to disable this?

Understandable as a compromise of having the function while not being too creepy.
If you want to get creepy you can always use speakerphone+microphone.

it Got to be some direct call recorder out there for defy without beeps and without speakerphone, anyone?

can it be extracted as a .apk?
can a cook or someone with the 2.2 rom find a way to extract the call recorder app so it can be installed on any Defy?
It seems to me that only works with blur:

so your saying the chinese 2.2 rom works with 2-way recording but only with blur apps and services installed?
thanks.
Yes, and blur sucks and its slow, thats why all rom moders release deblurred roms
This may not be possible with any rom any than the Chinese 2.2. I saw many Chinese users requesting call recording in other rom eventually went back to the Chinese 2.2 rom.
The best app for call recording is Ultimate Voice Recorder For Android and it's working on Defy.

The XT701 has/had call recording...I recorded my mum making a call to a fish and chip shop once. worked a treat...still have it actually.
Is it possible to record voice during calling. It seems that Atrix 4G does not support this function, when i use API to record from mic,and get nothing. but
when phone is end, there is sound appears. Could anyone explain the reasons?
Thanks
Plenty of threads about this. Not possible because of privacy issues/laws. If you want to record calls, you need to have your phone on speaker and record with another device.

Sgs2 does it out of the box
Edit: I forgot that I never ran stock on my phone, it was included in a ROM. Apparently call recorder works with stock. Should be a way for you Atrix folks.

From what I understand this is a hardware issue implemented by Motorola because of privacy issues/laws at state and federal levels. I don't believe it's as easy as installing any app to enable this feature.
Of course it may be/is possible on other phones, but different manufacturers have different policies regarding items like this, and Motorola takes a hard line on call recording.
Also, many phones don't route the actual call through the OS by design, so an application running in the OS has no access to the voice module.
You can record calls on Google voice, but when you enable this in call the other person is informed by an automated message that call recording has begun.
