Long story short, i accidentally formatted my sd yesterday, which sucked, but i had an sd backup from when i had my cliq that still had the majority of my apps...so i performed my titanium restore but ONLY third party apps (cliq is 1.5, vibrant is 2.1...duh).
Ever since that, whenever i try to download from the market i get stuck at "starting download"....no one else i know who uses android is having this problem today.....so i went ahead and started new seperate google account just to test, and everything on that account downloads fine. WHATS UP WITH THAT?? on my regular i tried deleting cache and data but it didnt work (and yes, gmail and gtalk are open)
anyone have any ideas for me?

ACTUALLY if you read both posts, they are completely different. the Q&A post was to see if anyone else is having this issue....then once i determined that my issue is unique, i posted this seperate explanation and events leading up to my problem. each post had a different purpose and goal, but thanks for your wonderful and helpful input....oh, and of course, your investigative efforts, they should DEFINATELY make you a moderator!!!!!!
menu settings, show all, go to market and clear cache/data
go to titanium backup, menu, more, market doctor.
Reboot.
Should no longer have a problem. This is not UNIQUE

Wait, all the .apk files were on your EXTERNAL sd card? and not in data/apps?
Curious if running fix permissions would work... have you tried that via CWR?

Hey guys, ive done some searching but don't seem to be able to find anything that will fix this.
Whatever app I try to download from the market app I get the message that is in the title.
I have cleared the android market app cache and the download manager cache but still the same problem, im at a loss with this and the only thing I can see to do is wipe and start again, but I don't really want to do this so any ideas on how tho fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I know this happens with some, not all apps, regularly with HD2 Android builds. The trick in these scenarios is to unmount your SD card and then download these apps. If it's happening to all of your apps, I'm afraid I don't have the answer.
It seems that the Android Market is down. I have similar issues, tried all the known tricks and then saw Twitter...

This is really strange. I just managed to download/install Current Widget, but I cant even begin to download Angry Birds. It began downloading Retro Clock Widget, but stopped halfway through, and just says "Download Unsuccesfull"..

Download/install apps from Market
Settings -> SD Card -> Mount
It doesnt seem to help me right now, though..
I'm having some issues as well, it would seem. Some apps installed but some just hang there when they get to %100. Very glad i did a Titanium backup before I wiped my sd card.
Same problem here from yesterday. I think is not a "hd2" related issue, but is a market issue.. until yesterday all worked fine...

Android Market - unsuccessful downloads
Just had a quick question as to a possible solution to get market downloads to succeed. I have tried clearing data, rebooted MANY times, and even did a hard-reset on my WinMo ROM, but to no avail. Please help!! Also I apologize if this question was already asked or answered.. if so please provide a link to the thread. Thanks in advance
UPDATE: Yes the market is now working for me. Thank God!! Downloads happened instantaneously.
the market seems to be messed up
either that, or they started denying requests from 1234567890abcdef device id
After the market fix has been applied I see most apps (including some that I know are protected) but not all. From my experience on the DroidX, this is usually an issue with the build.prop not reporingt a valid ROM to google.
For example, I can search on my DX for "wii controller ime" and find the app. My Archos 101 does not. (I side loaded it.)
If someone has a build.prop for an Archos Gen 8, that will see that send it my way please.
Can you tell me what you've changed in the build.prop of your DX?
ok, done:
I just took the fingerprint from a galaxy tab:

This sounds cool! Is there a way a non rooted device can get this? Perhaps by some installation.apk
Thanks
Definitly not possible without root. I don't know if it's even possible with temproot
Sent from my A101IT using Tapatalk
Yeah, basically you need to fool the market into thinking you have a certified device. Not an easy task from what I understand. If you have a rooted Android phone you can download te app there, then use Titainium Backup to get the apk off the phone and side load it on you Archos. At least tha is what I do.

Hi chulri,
I follow your instruction above by modifying the fingerprint in /system/build.prop, then did the same market fix as instructed by the gappsinstall thread, reboot. I still can't find the gun bros app.
What else I have to do? (I had 2.1.4 rw root installed before doing this)
Now "My Apps" list is gone in the Google Market, can I get the list back?
Update: ok, it works now. I have to clear cache, clear data, force stop and then run the Market again. Now Gun Bros also shows up, and My Apps list also populate.
I still can't find Heywire app, anyone can see this app after this mod?
I have used archangel to root, then used marketenabler app from the market,
no other steps involved.
I seem to see all apps now (not 100% sure on that) but, definately see some protected apps that I couldnt see before and havent come across any on my HTC Desire that the Archos isnt seeing now.

[Solved]I think the Market Fix trick only work in old Market, it means you need to "Uninstall updates" after clean cache and force stop the Market.
Can someone please post up step by step how to edit the build.prop file ??
I've never done such a thing and I'm desperately trying to figure this out for a guide that I'm working on putting together..
I'm rooted (perma root) FWIW
Thanks a TON.
I use a file manager to copy the file to the sd and then connect to the computer via usb and edit with notepad++.. don't use windows notepad or wordpad as I've had problems with them. After the file is edited.. safely disconnect from the computer. Then I add .bak to the end of the original file and then copy the new edited file over to replace it.
I hope that helps. I believe there are also text editors in the market, but I like editing with a real keyboard.

Here: I"ve used the RootExplorer method detailed in this forum:
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/154976-2-2-market-issues-use-mod.html
Also to all: There are two states possible with the Market. Fixed if you the clear cache hack, unfixed if you do not do it or if you undo it...(to undo just do the clear Cache path but add clear data....no need to stop googleservicesframework and no need to reboot...just restart Market app and accept legal terms). The difference fixed state gives more apps but will hide some others from you: you get google maps, zeam, ADW, ...but you loose Google Earth, Flash Player 10, TVU, .... Jus to name a few. So the key thing is to know how to quicly switch from one state to the other. use the clear cache hack to get into fixed state and use my undo rootine (clear data) to revert the fix.
Once you add the fix to build prop you pretty much have now 4 possible states:
Please see my post below for my tests on the 4 different states and some conclusions
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=48312
Here's how to very easily undo the fix if you need to...
..Once you've done the Market fix you do not need to reinstall Market to go back to state before applying the fix. Once you do the Market fix you will gain access to few more apps but many apps requiring froyo will no longer show up anymore: that's the case of apps like TVU, Flash 10, .... (there must be many more). I suspect the market fix makes the device and generic device but not a froyo one.
To go back an forth between the fix and the original state all you need is to do this;
go to Settings --- Applications --Manage Applications ---Running -- Market ---Clear Cache ----Clear Data --Force Stop--Relaunch Market ---Accept Terms and Conditions ---
Voila. and you're back to the original State where you can find flash 10 & other froyo only apps.
If you do the the fix...you loose flash ..but gaine other apps...the fix skip the Clear Data steps ...and the Clear Data step will undo the fix. THe fix requires reboot..To undo it you do not need to reboot and do not need to stop googleframework.
I do this fix and after seach keyword "adnroid" i get about 143000 apps.
Is it ok?

Yes, that's fine...you good...fixed state, fixed buld.prop
but note you may still not see some apps with are available in unfixed state, fixed build.prop (like TVU, Google Earth, Adobe Connect, flash 10.01,..)
That's the con of fixed state...you gain some you loose some....

However...
Angry Birds won't open. I've installed from Market, from backup, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted...any other ideas?
Facebook app is glitchy.
My Nook app is force closing when I try to open a book...I'm thinking maybe I did something wrong...
Is there a way to remove the phone related apps and references?
I do miss the BN Library Shelves...I think I'll get over that though...or attempt a dual-boot.
Overall, it is so different than what I'm used to that it's a bit intimidating...but I'm sticking with it for a while due to all the over-the-top positive reviews here!

I know that Facebook version 1.5.3 had bugs that caused force closes on MANY devices. They released 1.5.4 last night to correct these issues, but I have not tested the new version myself. Others have said the app works great now. I downgraded to 1.5.2 which works fine, but I will try 1.5.4 later tonight.
Unfortunately I don't know about the other questions you had so hopefully someone else can help you there
Im no expert, but have you fixed permissions in rom manager? thats been known to stop force closes
I tried to fix permissions, but it says I don't have permission to do so...something's not quite right.
Yes, 1.5.3 caused problems for many. So far 1.5.4 works for me without any problems on my Droid X and Nook Color.

How are you showing phone references? You mean the apps?
If you're talking apps, get root explorer, nav. to system/app/
mount r/w, then add the suffix .bak too app phone related apps (doing phone.apk LAST). It doesn't do anything, but helps some people sleep at night.
mms.apk
telephoneprovider?.apk
phone.apk (will cause force closes...just hard shut down and reboot)
Haven't run into any apps that need these (dropbox used to), but good to keep around.
Try moving angry birds from sd card to "phone" if that is where it is located.

Just want to make sure-- you did format your data & cache partition as ext4 right?
I'm not sure about the ext4...is that something different than just formatting through CWM.
Angry Birds is installed on 'phone' and not the SD card.
I did figure out how to remove phone apps, thanks!
We have multiple nooks so I tried Phiremod's on a different one and really liked it. I ended up reflashing this nook to Phiremod and am so far, really pleased...angry birds still won't load, but I guess we can live without it!

Update: 11/20/11 Unofficial Market update which brings it to Version 3.3.12. Better integration with the Music market. You can now download free music and purchase music as well. Sorry U.S.A. only for free music (?)
How to install: download apk and install like any other apks.
http://db.tt/0j3ii5Oq
Here is the latest (leaked?) update of the Market which brings it to version 3.3.11.
And here's how I installed it: I am currently on CM7 nightlies
Download .apk (Market-3.3.11.apk)
Open Root explorer (or any file manager w/ root access)
Move New Market .apk (Market-3.3.11.apk) to system/apps (make sure to mount R/W first)
Move (or delete, but I suggest to move .apk just in case) older market .apk (Vending.apk) to your sdcard
Rename new market as Vending.apk
Fix Permissions (rw--r--r)
Exit Root Explorer (or any file manager)
Reboot
Done! Whew...
OR...
Download .apk
Rename New Market .apk to "Vending.apk" (w/o the quotes)
Install just like any other apllication
Reboot (if necessary)
*I didn't get the chance to try the second option so it may or may not work, but it kinda made sense...
**not sure if (Vending.apk) is the same name for SENSE ROMS (I don't remember) but just make sure to rename it the same way...

Hmm this actually is worth the trouble. LOL
you could do it the lazy way and hover over the link on this website and after about 3s a qr code will show up
DL'd and installed earlier. I had been having problems with the speed of other 3.x market apps, this fixes those all, even on 3g. However, some of my installed apps aren't showing up (like Google Maps, of all things). I'm sure there's a simple solution to that, though.

from the "CRACKED" speedy EVO engine... Via Tapatalk.
It won't install for me. It keeps saying application not installed. If I use root explorer to place the .apk in the /systems/app folder I just get force closes. Clearing data doesn't help either. I have downloaded it several times thinking it was a corrupted download. I'm at wits end here. I have done everything in this post even before I read it as I have updated to all the other previous market releases without issue.
But for some reason this one just doesn't work. I thought maybe it wasn't working on cm7.1 nightli or or the evo shift but some of you have it working so that isn't it. Let me redo this and maybe format cache and dalvik see if that helps.

I had zero issues with the new Market. I just installed it like any other .apk. The new Market is very nice. Many small noticable differences. I did try that, but no luck. I'll probably just ignore it until the next time I flash a ROM. Then it'll fix itself, so that's fine. I imagine it's only going to be a few days until I do that anyway.

Titanium Backup can restore all your Market links. I believe there's also other apps designed just to do that too. Use TB or search for an app that restores Market links.

I used your second instructions to install it but I didn't rename it and it installed fine. I didn't need to change permissions or reboot, just touched the Market-3.3.11.apk after I downloaded it and it installed. Thanks.

I just tried this and TB linked most apps (except Amazon apps of course) to the market. Thanks for the tip sparksco...

I did this the first time i downloaded the .apk and it didn't work for me. That's why I had to do it the long way...
Are you on a Sense ROM?
Good to know that it installed fine for you.
Hello
I have this problem. whenever I open play store and apply updates or install new apps, the play store crashes and the updates are interrupted until I re-open it and resume the update manually. This doesn't seem to happen when the updates are done in the background automatically without opening the store first. I have already tried uninstalling, deleting cache and data, reboot etc. but the problem persists.
I have the Samsung Galaxy note 3 SM-N9005 LTE version with rooted kitkat 4.4.2

Yes I did, both cache and dalvik
I see that very few people have this very annoying issue
I just don't want to resort to factory reset. I mean I know it will probably fix it but I just don't feel like setting my phone up again from the start which is time consuming, besides, what would be the purpose of this wonderful community if all problems were solved by wiping up one's phone.
I was wondering if the cause could be some poor memory management or bad cleaning/anti-virus apps interfering with the memory management I mean I am a complete noob in terms of android management but I assume when there are multiple apps being downloaded/updated at the same time it must consume a great deal of resources but for an app to crash without even the popup message that says "....has stopped" I have never seen before

Maybe you try to get a appstore.apk, delete your's wipe Cache and then install the apk.
I would also recommend data wipe though cause with backup (I use titanium) it'll be less time consuming than everything else. Just backup user data and you won't have to set it up again. The thing is it's not guaranteed that the problem lies within playstore and since we don't have your phone in our hands it is nearly impossible to point you to the exact fix.

well... speaking of backup I also use titanium and nandroid, thank god for that because earlier I tried something stupid (suggested here on XDA though) I cleared the app store cache and data which is fine because I did it before with no problem but then I cleared the google services framework data/cache, I wish I hadn't because it literally messed everything up. I was unable to connect at all to the store even though I had a good network connection. thank god it worked again after I restored the app/data
I can live with that issue. it's not such a hassle since I usually check the play store for updates every day at least. but I may try your first suggestion though. thanks 4aces

As you wish b careful though. I think (definitely not 100% sure) you have to put the apk file in device/system/apk with es file Explorer or root Explorer and than put the permission to rw rr.
That's why I recommend full wipe.

oops... no appstore.apk in /system/app folder. how could that be? On the other hand there is a com.android.vending-1.apk in /data/app so I'm puzzled

thanks for the link. maybe I could try to update it as my version is 4.6.17 which is older than 4.8.19 and see if there is a change. One thing I don't understand is that one can only disable it and not uninstall it so does that mean it's a system app even though it's not in the /system/app folder? should I convert it to user app with titanium prior to update?

From what I read so far it is implemented in system and not so easy to mess with. In the link above is a link back to xda. It'll be best if u read it.
PS. Hitting the thanks button is faster than typing
Ok I installed the new version but no improvement the app still crashes while downloading the second update. Grrrrr... insane!

One more suggestion. Try to open application manager in settings and select all. Look for download manager and clear the cache then reboot.
If it doesn't help wait for other replies or wipe data will have to do the work.

I tried that but didn't help. then I tried to update and move to system, made it even worse as play store crashed as soon as I hit the update button. Reinstalling the app wouldn't help so I had to restore a nandroid backup. I'm giving up now but won't waste time doing a wipe data because it's not a real issue since I'm able to update anyway by hitting the button and close play store right after. All my apps still update in the background anyway
