Here are a few options if you need to change your Mms UserAgent.
* cyanogenmms.zip - AOSP Mms apk complied from CyanogenFroyostable. Includes UserAgent change and other tweaks.
* jpo-iphoneUA-mms.zip - Samsung's Mms.apk - hex edited UserAgent to iPhone. Works with Jigsaw unlock.
* captivate-nokiaUA-mms.zip - hex edited Captivate Mms.apk, by request. Nokia n80 UserAgent.
* stock-jpy-mms.zip - Samsung Stock Mms.apk. From JPY.
Installation:
Flash appropriate zip with CWM.

Softbank Japan limits outgoing MMSes based on UserAgent.
You can grab patched Android Stock MMS apks (which will add an option to change the UserAgent), but I haven't been able to track down a Samsung Mms.apk with the same thing.
This is a simple hex edit of the Mms UserAgent and UAProfUrl in mms_config.xml. (Changes them to iPhone values)
Should work for any other carrier that happens to do the same thing, let allows iPhones.
Why:
* You like the Samsung Messenger.
* You like the Samsung lock screen. (Android stock mms.apk breaks the message 'jigsaw' unlock).
This is also the Froyo Mms.apk from JPO.
I realise this is very specific (I'm probably the only one on softbank japan with galaxy s ) - if anyone wants a howto for any other carriers that UserAgent lock, let me know!
I love the zigsaw unlock. +1 for this.
MMS Outgoing limited a 3Kb pictures
Hi!
Sorry for my bad bad english. I'm from Brazil, have a galaxy S and use DocRom V7.5 JPO.
This is for people who want to send MMS, but the message outgoing limited to 3kb? That's it?
I already have a nexus one too, and i never send a MMS over 3Kb with my carrier (TIM), the same problem with my galaxy s.
Can you help me?
Thanks!

If you mean you're limited to 300kb by the carrier and android/samsung Mms.apk is making them too big, then it would seem that you can fix it the same way.
Check; http://www.connect-utb.com/index.ph...g-size-for-mms-in-android&catid=36:technology
for more details. It's basically exactly what's there.
(pity I didn't find that url earlier, would've saved a little time figuring out how to change the UserAgent).
I did not refer to a maximum of 300kb limited by the carrier.
When someone tries to send me a MMS, every time I get pictures with only 3kb. The reverse also happens: when I send MMS to anyone he gets the picture with a few kb...
I have cell phone with android more than one year (first nexus, now galaxy s), and could not send or receive mms properly...
I'm going crazy over it!
Will this work with the samsung captivate using on Tobile US?
I can send and receive MMS, jsut the incoming MMS get resized to rediculous small
like 4 to 7 kb size
Is there anyway you can take this mms.apk from my samsung captivate and
change the user agent to that of a nokia n95 for me?
If yo ucan do this it's much appreciated
thank you.

I'm not sure that there is enough space to fit that whole string in. If you check out that link up a few posts there is a good guide which is basically what you need to do. Instead of changing maxMessage, change the mmsUserAgent setting.
Basically,
* open the file with winRAR.
* Go to; res/xml
* extract mms_config.xml
* edit mms_config.xml with a hex editor.
* put mms_config.xml back into res/xml
* push back to your phone.
Thank you, I'll give it another shot. If it don't work I'll live with it.
Can you tell me from the picture which parts need to be changed?
Thank you

I found this posted in another thread here as the N95 user agent
NokiaN95/11.0.026; Series60/3.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
It's much shorter, do you think you can help me modified my mms.apk?
any help is appreciated.
Thanks for this, although my mms worked well, i have been wondering how i could increase the maximum photo size for sending from 640x480 to 800x600, seeing this thread has shown me the way and now i can send pictures in the larger format. Many thanks!!
I am using galaxy s on softbank but have no issue with mms yet, any other tips for galaxy s users on softbank?

Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000, flashed with JPM, CF-Root, OCLF and AOSP Lockscreen. Working well, except for MMS. So I have searched the net, found your post, tried...and guess what...works!
I have been really annoyed for last week, because I have tried almost everything to make MMS work...so only problem is, that MMS was sending pictures too big, and with User-Agent, which is unknown to our vendors?
Sad...anyway, I want to thank you for your tip.
sargon, do you have to sign the apk after the edit for it to work?
Sorry if this sounds dumb, But have you given Handcent a try? theres a setting in it to change agents. I always wondered why you needed it but now I know. Besides, Handcent craps all over built in sms/mms app any day.

Where is the settings to change user agent in Handcent? I've gone through all the setting tabs and no where can i change the UA

I was wondering if there were any other mms hacks that work on the mogul other than the widely known one at ppcgeeks, cause it only works when it wants to and I would like to try a different one.
Lately there have been server issues where it just doesn't want to send any picturemails... heh, seems like Sprint is try to crack down on it
yea, and that sucks cause I tend to send alot of pics to other peoples cell phones that dont have email on their phones, or dont know how to use it.
well I figured something out!, I turned off my data conection and turned on my wifi(thanks to my wireless antenna) and triend sending again and it went off without a hitch! Damn Sprint!
Hmm, I don't even have MMS in my Mogul Inbox apps, only Text Message, Outlook, and my email account. How do you guys send MMS then?
IN my Cingular 8525, I have MMS in the Inbox apps.

I found a workaround/fix that has it working.
Change you DNS from Sprint's to Open DNS.
see : http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...et-access.html
Then it should work every time.
here use this thread, it works.

mms works fine for me, had to softboot twice but always had to softboot twice with wisebar on my 6700, out of curiosity why would sprint want to prevent you from sending picmail when you are paying for power vision? "seems like Sprint is try to crack down on it"

Wow...can't believe that I missed that!!! Thanks a bunch!
What about Alltel's ROM... they offer picture/video mail on their 6800s... can anyone extract the cabs out of it??
I don't know about anyone else, but the MMS app seemed to really slow down my phone... sometimes the messaging application would freeze up entirely when it was installed!
So, I found that at least for Sprint users, you can send an email to <phone number>@pm.sprint.com, and it will show up as an MMS message on that user's phone!
This is a much more robust way to send pic mms, and my phone is much happier now without the MMS app.

they are not cabs to extract, it is not installed from the extended_rom but instead part of the ROM.
if someone else knows what files and regs are needed i could extract them and build a cab. i had considered trying to track them down and/or pulling out files/regs used in the mms cab from ppcgeeks. i could try this but i have a feeling the mms builtin to alltels has stuff all over that would be hard to track down.
it is arcsoft mms though just looks like a diff version. installing the ppcgeeks arcsoft mms cab on alltel does not produce working mms and this is part of my feeling that this version is layed out quite differently.

This is the exact same thing I experienced with the mms cab from arcsoft. My phone was sluggish and whenever I tried to go into my text message shortcut it would take up to a minute to load up.
I'll go without for now too, until we can find a way around this.
This is the OLD WAY
I use the old MMS Cab file from Verizon 6700. It's very simple to make it work. First install the Cab , then the cab text menu. after the soft reset, just go into the Arcsoft files registry and change the Enableserveredit ot 1 , default is 0. Once that is done, go to the MMS config and change to sprintpcs and the address also to sprintpcs. then thats it. This is just a brieft description if anyone wants to try it.
If anyone want me to attached the file and go step by step, just post the reply here and i'll get to it. Reason is because i don't know if everyone knows about it or not, so i won't waste time posting the files.
You will have an MMS in Messaging, YOU can send it from there, but when you received MMS pix/video it is received in the Text Message account. Basically this MMS account enable you to send MMS pix/video and receiveds then in your Text Messaging account. When receiving MMS, it will send you a link to the pix/video directly. I know on the Alltel, it takes you to the sprint messaging website and you have to log in to see pix/video. The setup above as i described, takes you directly to the pix/video and do not need to log in.
FYI:....send MMS using phone numbers not e-mail addy
Right now after doing the resolution hack, my MMS won't send out, giving me an error that says my image size of 16k or whatever is over the 0k limit? I can change my resolution to the lowest setting and it's still giving me the same error.
I downloaded the mms cab for the mogul thru PPCGEEKS. I sent one large 2 mp picture and it went thru to another mogul just fine. Then I tried to send another picture and got a error messsage of "Your message of 21k exceeds the limit of 0k.Please remove some content and try again." Does anyone else get this?
hack your registry and you can change the size limit.
1. hlm
2. software
3. arcsoft
4. arcsoft mms ua
5. config
7. ui
8. sizelimit
9. sendlimit (change this one)
AND...
with reg edit go:
1. hlm
2. software
3. arcsoft
4. arcsoft mms ua
5. config
7. mm1
8. 6654
9. send default (change this one)
I changed both of mine to 958400. the default to receive is 99999999. I suppose you could set that as the send default as well.
I did your instructions of hack the reg and went to number 8 which you put "size limit1". Whant then?
Then I did the reg edit in your second intructions and went to mm1 but when i highlight that i dont see "send default". Im sorry.. im ususally good but i think theres some steps missing here..

hello
the redid the mms and now u can send biger pix heres the new zip
do you know the limit for the new download?
this stopped working for me. anyone else?
Sprint shut down the MMS on the Mogul... As of right now, the only way you can send a picture is thru e-mail attachments. Yes I know... VERY STUPID!
i wonder why they would do that. why is it against humanity to allow picture mail that we pay for to work with our moguls?
Has there been any update about the MMS working again?
im curious as well..??
From what I've heard they're going to couple with the other big companies and start charging for MMS...which, I thought we were already paying for.
But, again, I stress it's what I've heard (ppcgeeks) so take it for what it's worth.
Hey guys and girls,
Ive got a Samsung Omnia (please no booing ) and I need an application to hide text and or mms messages. I work overseas from time to time with my business and my wife and I swap MMS and text messages to each other while I am away. Having a new phone means everyone wants to check it out and i certainly do not want anyone stumbling across any MMS or text messages my wife has sent me ;-)
I have already well and truly searched this forum and the only software I can find is by evolvens and it doesn work.
Im sure it couldnt be to hard for someone to code a little piece of software to hide sms or mms depending on who sent it?
Sorry if ive posted in the wrong section, id be willing to pay for the right app and im sure many others would as well.
Cheers
Dave
hey, i ran into a problem in my last relationship where i ended up dating 2 chicks... so i had their sms' saved using ez secret sms 2.0. basically, you can set it up to run in the background, and you set certain contacts to be received in this program instead of outlook. the program can be named anything you want. so i named it something boring like system priority. you click it, and it brings up a calculator. you put in the code you specified, and hit ok... and it opens your "secret inbox." you can also set it to notify you in some way that you received a text from whoever. i set it as "islanders won!" for one chick, and "rangers lost!" for the other... pretty simple program to use, and it works fairly well.
if you want to hide just the pics, you could always just save the pics and encrypt the folder using resco explorer with a password or something. but if you really want to save the actual sms, this program worked fairly well for me.
I agree - SMS Security is great - I use it on my Diamond with no problems
I don't think it willl work with MMS though. As the post above - save the image from your MMS into your main files in a private folder. Call that folder something odd and I'm sure you friends won't open it. If you really want to protect the images, you can lock just that file with Resco or I use VisCrypt
Thanks hays and ou2mame for your input, I will try ez secret sms,
hays is this the same program you use on your diamond?
Thanks again guys

Hi!
When someone is sending Me a MMS with a picture it's scaled down, but when i send someone a picture it's in 800x480. How come? Is it a setting? I have set my to original size in settings.
And what about when you have a longer text diskussion the keyboard sort of goes over to number mode and you have to change keyboard to be able to type letters...
Is the question just to stupid to answer or what?
Please someone, this drives me crazy, and i have asked my friends to send mail for now when sending pictures.

The "original size" setting has nothing to do with incoming stuff. That's resized on the sender's phone. A lot of my previous phones (mainly Nokia phones) insisted on shrinking images before sending them via MMS, so I'd imagine that's why you get small images - because they're sent small.
As for the keyboard problem, I use a qwerty keyboard, so I can't help as I've never seen the problem you're having. I have seen other people on here discussing it though, so a search may help.
On O2 the pictures gets resized when the operator (o2) doesnt recongise the phone model and therefore it makes it smaller, I used to have this problem when I flashed different roms on my polaris as the o2 verion of the phone differed in name.
Theres a cab somewhere that sets your mms useragent to a nokia n95 or something, that does the trick if the HD2 is not supported by your opperator.

NP. Are you using HTC messaging? If so there is no sent message notifiactin and it cannot be added. Only ROMs that use PocketOutlook can have the sent notification.
could anyone tell me what are the changes that this makes? from what to what? Many thanks...
what changes? the zip file contains a registry change that is needed for mms pictures to show fullsize rather than as thumbnail size due to o2 not recognising the phone type properly

Here, this is what is in that settings file. Basically when you do stuff on the phone/network, the network looks up a profile for your phone, , what it can do, etc. When the hd2 shipped, it seems there wasnt a profile available, so it used the touch profile (or something like that, i forget what the default was in my registry)) which didnt work corectly.
Personally i've been using a combi profile for a different phone i found from elsewhere, which worked, but It seems there is now a profile available for the hd2.
You can see the hd2 profile if you like,
