I can confirm that if you allow Kies to auto update the official Froyo release is not available to you if you have upgraded to the Nortic JP6 via the registry hack.
This is a holding thread to allow users with this issue to upgrade when a workaround is found or to notify when Samsung enables JP6 -> JP0.
i used reg hack on my DBT sgs , now i m waiting on official update .. i changed my product from xee to dbt (default). would i have to downgrade ?? to get official froyo ?
Best to revert to older version of Kies and use these registry settings
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\4]
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"

"HIDSWVER"=""

Where can we get the older version ?
EDIT: Found it but can't post (new user)
Thanks Frostfree that worked
Possible reghack workaround....
I've been trying a reghack workaround for the newer Kies but it's not quite there.
What I'm doing is making sure Kies runs without any request for admin rights (Vista/Win7) then make the same changes needed for the older version, but just before hitting the firmware check again I modify the permissions to the key holding the values i.e. Right-click 1 or 4 or whatever yours is. Choose Permissions, Advanced, edit the one for your logged in account and tick Set Value on the Deny side. Press OK to save the change ignoring the warning but don't close Regedit so you can easily set this back.
This seems to fool Kies enough that it can't re-change the values back without the application crashing (tried the same at a higher level in the registry and it did), but I keep getting an error about the unable to connect to device server problem when it tries to check. I tried the DEVCONINFO value change as well - no better.
Fortunately I have another machine at home with the older Kies, so I'm going to try that tonight, but I thought I should throw this out there in case anyone else has better luck.
I am offered the upgrade but get not sufficient battery warning then it closes when I click update.
Just as a quick heads up for those manually editing the registry the ("") marks in frostfree's info are to be left blank

I had same problem. You have to add "HIDSWVER" same as software revision. After that my problem about unable to connect with server gone.

There is what I perform:
1) Open update dialog
2) See info about no update version available
3) Close dialog
4) Edit: ProductCode, SoftwareRevision, HIDSWVER
5) Open update again
6) Kies overwrites my register changes and displays info about no update available again
Isn't this the case for you? Did you do something differently?

Several of us have the same problem and that is with full batteries so do not put your hopes in that with a full one it will work. It probably will not.

OK, so with newest Kies reg hack does not work anymore. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...ies#Installing_firmware_for_different_country for howto.
Does not work
followed to the letter. but kies says version cannot be upgraded.
....so that's it. few hours late again. reg hack hacked again.

For those who upgraded to the Nordic firmware when it was available via the reg hack and had their product code changed to XEE instead of the original one (XEU in my case) this does not work
The latest Kies only offers the Nordic version which is not fully functional for those in other countries as it is customised to the XEE region.
Using an earlier Kies with the newest reg hacks using the original product code does make Kies offer the correct firmware BUT it stop and says the battery is to low even though it is full. So there is no way to upgrade via Kies for us.

Did you try with ProductCode ending with "XEU" and HDISWVER older than the newest (Android 2.2) one?
Like:
GT-I9000HKDXEU
I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3
?
Note: do *not* use "I9000XXJPO/I9000OXAJPO/I9000XXJPP/I9000XXJPO" as it's already the newest and Kies surely won't offer upgrade.
I am in france and did JPM xee update a few weeks ago

Been trying to access some info from the "My Account" app and says my phone model is not supported. I think its due to the change in model number in the about phone section. Anyway to change it back to what it was before?
Btw im running CM 5.0.8
Edit: Reason for editing: On the "Model Number" part, its says HTC Dream, I wanted to change the text string back to what it use to be so I fully use the my account app.
old post, but I would like to know where/what I need to do to change the model also. I can't update via my sammy i9000 via Kies, because it's reading as a GT-I9000 after installing a Euro 2.2 ROM, when it's infact a GT-I9000T.. which Kies now has a New Zealand 2.2 update for. The issue is the 3G support of the Euro ROM and the fact it makes my screen on first power up do the rainbow snow deal. I'm hoping the NZ ROM for the actual 9000T will fix this... but I need to change the device model # to test.
The Kies registry patch trick didn't work for me at all. I would run the app, it would appear to change the registry keys, but Kies would either add another set of 3 keys (4, 5, 6) or just change the 1, 2, 3 modified reg keys to what the phone is reporting instead of keeping the modified info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You could rename it to .txt, edit, change to .prop.
Or you could adb pull, edit, push ect.
never mind. I have SGS Tools app that lets me edit /system/build.prop without renaming it. SGS Tools is available on the Market for free.

I have a few questions regarding Kies, Contacts, and USB mode to all the pro's out there -
I only get the following option when I connect the phone to the PC Settings --> USB Mode--> USB Mass Storage. Is this normal or should there be more options offered such as - Kies, PC Studio, Mass Storage? The Galaxy S (Captivate) offered a prompt as to which mode you wanted to connect the phone in whenever it was plugged in. I don't get any option like that. As soon as the device is plugged in (in idle mode) a window pops- up --> MTP Application - Connected (Press the home key to quit Samsung Kies)
Is there a specific way I need to connect the phone in to Kies? Kies displays only 2 options to me -
Add file to GT-I9100
Add folder to GT-I9100
I have tried 2 different computers, but its the same on both of them. I am using Kies version 2.0.1.11053_99 (which according to Kies is the latest version)
Display Options under Contacts shows only Phone and Google. it does not display SIM. I have already reset the phone once. Do I need to do something else? Since I am new to the forum, I am unable to add any screenshot links. But if someone can help me, I would gladly PM them the screenshots. Or you could look at photobucket for my album under nit407.

Ok OP, in order for Kies to see the GSII you need to be on kies mode.
Make sure first this box is unchecked, go to: Settings=>Applications=>Development=>USB Debugging make sure this box is unchecked and then re connect your GSII into your USB cable and open Samsung Kies, it will recognize it immediately.
Good luck.
And make sure you're using the TWLauncher, not a 3rd party launcher.

You can not add contacts directly to the SIM card, neither can see them unless you have copied them to Phone memory/Google. But I have heard that the SIM option is now included in latest 2.3.4 firmware, but as I am yet to test it can't confirm.

My KIES doesn't work anymore ive asked the question a few times but no one seems to know why, ive done what you've said (Settings=>Applications=>Development=>USB Debugging), ive tried on 3 different browsers, a couple of different internet connections, turned off firewall,etc,etc but every time it just times out when i try and connect on my laptop, it has only ever worked once for me, im running cognition 1.15.
I don't find KIES a necessity but it would be nice if it worked (and to find out how to get it working!!)

I dont know if it is the rom problem or what,,,but many users with stock rom also had this problem,,,,just uninstall kies,,,then delete the remaining kies files(there are files left even after uninstallation in the kies folder),,then reinstall the latest kies,,,conecct ur phone to ur pc(usb debugging unchecked)it ll reinstall ur phone's drivers,,and all should be fine then.
there are many complaints of kies not working fine on laptops,,,but if u use a desktop it ll definitely work...
Hope that helps.

Thanks guitarmafia. I am trying this on my desktop now. Regarding firmware upgrade, when I click on "Check for Updates", I get a message "Connection to Server Failed". Lucky I am on SaskTel, running Telstra firmware, cannot get an update through Zune yet. Tried de-branding my phone, restored to factory, branded to SaskTel, spent hours trying to get the cable-pull trick to fool Zune... absolutely nothing!!! A little disappointed, and hoping I won't have to wait too long for the notification to show up on my phone. Probably would have been best if I hadn't checked Google and found out that the update was rolling today - then I wouldn't have wasted so much time, and I wouldn't be so disappointed now!! Haha Anyway, have fun with it, hope to be enjoying mine soon, too.

Can you post the links to the CAB files?
Can anyone do that? because nothing is working on my side to get the update.
Guys. I tried the debranding... but nothing (LG Quantum AT&T, but I live in Romania).
So, I've used the SevenEighter app and that worked superb. The app will crash after each successive update, and you have to reselect the languages (6 for me) existing on the phone before each install. But other than that, works just fine Got like 4-5 updates (I think from 7720) till 7.8.

What is your OS version #?
update:
ok, the 7.8 OS version # is 7.10.8858.136
I finally got my ATT LG C900 updated to 7.8, here's what I did:
1. De-brand the phone: this got the phone updated up to 7.10.8107.79
2. Do the "Disconnect" method: by placing the phone into airplane mode and then timing to see how many seconds it took from clicking the Update until it give you the message that the your phone is up to date. Now do it again, but this time disconnect your computer's internet 1 second before the time that you just measured. This is just trial and error. You have to do this many time until you get the message that you have an update. Now, when you get the message that you have an update, turn on your computer's internet and then click on the Update button to update your phone. You have to repeat step 2 for every update until you get to OS version #7.10.8858.136 (it took me about 4 or 5 updates before reaching 7.10.8858.136).
Disconnect Method
How many updtes are there between 7883 and 8858?
Its taking awefully long...
Has anyone tried the Bluetooth yet?

I don't remember exactly, but I think it's just 1 or 2 updates. You have to do the timing exactly (one second before whatever your measure time is) to trigger the update.

Or if you don't feel like deleting all your data, you could just change this registry entry:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo]
"PhoneMobileOperatorName"="000-AT"
Restart and check for updates. GDR3 will start downloading.
NOTE: You do not need to change back this entry, as this is always the first to receive updates (was first to receive Portico, GDR2 and now GDR3)

Aside from "fixing" the registry writing component of RPCComponent (and hence breaking the interop-unlock hack and various apps which rely on that component, such as SamWP Tools), what does this update provide? My ATIV S is not literally bug-free, but it's close enough at this point that I would need a pretty major step forward to make up for the regression that losing registry write access would be...

GDR3 fixed all the problems with the bluetooth sound system of my car... And that was enough for me.

Thanks, but I *suspect* that's just GDR3 (the pure MS code), not the Samsung update. I know that improved BT compatibility and functionality was a major item for GDR3.

BTW I tried to read the registry value "MaxUnsignedApp" and it's set to 0, and I can't edit it.
It probably isn't actually set to 0 (try the webserver app to see for real). The problem is that the Samsung RPC component that made the registry editor work has been restricted to only supporting specific registry keys. DeviceReg\Install is not among those, as there was no "legit" reason to need it.

Yes, it seems there is the instructions for keeping the unlock whole updating to the official gdr3.
Looks like it is putting 3 xml's is to specific folder of your unlocked device. When you update after that, these block the installation of the part that locks the device.

The Interop-unlock remains in effect after the Samsung Firmware update if you have performed the registry changes before this update, the update doesn't set this back to the original value and thus relock it. The only thing that you can't do after this update is changing registry values after this update (because the FCRouter has been locked by Samsung so you can't open/enable the Diagnostic app anymore). That is if you haven't performed the hack under Remove the Samsung Package ofcourse, if you have you can still modify the registry and install/enable the Diagnostics app.
To OP : you have forgotten the step where you switch off the Dev Updates switch/checkbox in SamWP8 Tools, if you don't do this you'll only receive the Samsung Firmware update and not the official GDR3 (8.0.10517.150) itself.
hi, I need to know if it is possible to perform the unlock after upgrading to GDR3. Unfortunately I upgraded without ever having unlocked the phone.

IF YOU USED THIS METHOD BEFORE AND WANT THE NEW ROGERS/FIDO UPDATE THEN LOOK AT POST
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68314268&postcount=72
This guide is for Canadian S6 edge owners who are with Rogers or Fido since the been waiting for Marshmallow update forever. However, This should work for for others as long as the TWO CARRIERS share the exact phone model, which is the case for all s6 in canadian market.
DO it on your own responsibility
Doing this will not delete your data or trigger knox ... However, its wise to backup with SmartSwitch before attempting so.
1- I assume that you running windows and have latest version of samsung smart switch installed (I tried it on Windows 10)
2- install Fiddler (Its used to capture HTTP traffic and we will use it to be man-in-the-middle between Smartswitch and Samsung servers)
https://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler
3- Install FiddlerScript Editor (we will use to write and edit script rules)
http://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler/fiddlerscript-editor
4- Open Fiddler go to Rules --> customize rules
delete everything and past whats in the txt file in the attachment
5 - In this we are interested in only two functionsin that script
the contact from SMARTSwitch to the Sever: Here instead my phone identify itself as Fido phone "FMC" to the server it pretend its Kodoo phone "KDO"
Code:
static function OnBeforeRequest(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_DownloadBinaryInform")){
oSession.utilReplaceInRequest("FMC", "KDO");
}
}
the contact from the server to SMARTSwitch: Here i get replay from the server for Kodoo phone "KDO" but i pass it to SmartSwitch as Fido phone "FMC"
Code:
static function OnBeforeResponse(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_Download")){
oSession.utilReplaceInResponse("KDO","FMC");
}
}
6- Now safe and restart Fiddler
- Also when you open Fiddler go to File -> Capture traffic
make sure its checked
- Also make sure that fiddler can access HTTPS traffic by going to Tools--> Fiddler options --> HTTPS tab
make sure that 'capture HTTPS connect" and "decrypt https traffic" are both checked
7- Another thing worth mentioning, in Smart Switch > More > Preferences > Software update you have to deactivate Latest software Pre-Download
if you keep that option checked, the download will start in background before you click the update button, and procedure will end in error too;
8- Start SmartSwitch and plug your phone.
9- Click on the Update button
10- after Smart switch is offering the update download, accept the terms of update, then immediately when download start preperation, fidller must be closed. it is very crucial that Fiddler be turned off at just the right time otherwise you will get an error ;
Note: those are the codes for Canadian Carriers:
- Fido: FMC
- Koodo : KDO
-Rogers: RWC
-Bell: BMC
- Wind: GLW
-Telus: TLS
- Virgin: VMC
-Sasktel: BWA
-EastLink: ESK
- Vidéotron: VTR
This page will show you which carrier has the latest update
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925W8/
For now Kodoo has the latest update which support wifi calling
thank you; greatly appreciated;
just installed the Telus version of 6.0.1, July 1 security patch; it worked very fine.
only one mention you may add maybe:
after Smart switch is offering the update download, accept the terms of update, then immediately after the download start, fidller must be closed;
else the download will end with error at about 70%
the rest is flawless, absolutely no problem with the update, first boot will take little more time, even more if lot of apps are installed, because all apps are optimized at first boot.

Happy it helped, just updated the post.
Heads up Kodoo has the latest update which support wifi calling and for some reason I see big improvement on my battery especially is wifi calling enabled and you you are in wifi coverage
Do I just copy/paste that code as is if I'm with Rogers or do I need to change it to RWC?
Yes after u copy and past whats in the attachment, you need to change both FMC to RWC since you are with rogers

It's not working for me, gives me the button to update it but when I do it it says preparing the software update components but then I get a pop-up that says "ErrorCode=5,ErrorMessage=The operation completed successfully." and that's it
Hello,
Will this work for someone who bought a locked Rogers Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and is using it unlocked now on Bell network? What would I change the scripts to? It's not showing any update in Smartswitch for me, currently on 5.1.1.

I have everything set up correctly and I can see the Update button, I hit it, goes to preparing and I close Fiddler it then says The most current update is already installed on connected device. I'm on SM-G925W8, Android 5.1.1.
Should I try changing the RWC to BMC as Im currently on Bell network even though it was a locked Rogers phone?
EDIT: Nevermind sorry, it looks like I didn't wait long enough before closing Fiddler, downloading now.

I didn't try it on normal S6, but I don't see any reason why it won't work since the only thing we change is the carrier code and nothing else. So it should work

Okay that worked, just needed to wait for the windows installation prompt then close Fiddler right away before the download starts. Thanks!
Finally got it to work on the Galaxy S6 (not Edge) Rogers

Ok, I think I got it to work finally. I tried KDO, but ended up using TLS in the end. I tried several times and got the previously mentioned errors. I also kept getting "this device is up to date" but I kept trying and it seems that it is very crucial that Fiddler be turned off at just the right time. I finally got it to work by turning off Fiddler right after the two notices from Smart Switch and immediately following that, the update download started.
It is downloading now and I will update this post when the upgrade is successful.
Thanks for the tip!

Looking forward to hear your feedback, so maybe I can post the thread in S6 Forum because I know everyone sick waiting for rogers and fido to release the update. I have been using this method since last year to get update as soon as any carrier push it. In theory it should work for all Samsung phones as long as the phone model is the same between the two carrier.

It is working just fine. The upgrade was successful and everything works as far as I can tell so far.
Confirmed this worked great on my Rogers phone unlocked to Bell network. Thank you very much!
Guys another thing worth mentioning, in Smart Switch > More > Preferences > Software update you have to deactivate Latest software Pre-Download

the download has to start at your click on update button, to be able to close Fiddler at that point

Thanks for this, thats true. if you don't mind I'll add your post to the thread
So I am trying this out on my s6 tethered to fido
I can't get past the copy and pasting the code part in fiddler. I deleted everything and then copied and pasted as instructed but Fiddler is giving me an error once I try to save it. I can't copy and paste it but Ill type it out here for you....
Fiddler Script error
------------------------------Source---------------------------
{start-of-file}
Error LINE --> static function onbeforerequest(o Session:Session) {
if
(oSession.uricontains("NF_DownloadBinaryInform")){
--------------------------------------------------------------
Only Valid inside a class definition"
Here is the what the text looks like once I paste it in....
static function OnBeforeRequest(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_DownloadBinaryInform")){
oSession.utilReplaceInRequest("FMC", "KDO");
}
}
static function OnBeforeResponse(oSession: Session) {
if (oSession.uriContains("NF_Download")){
oSession.utilReplaceInResponse("KDO","FMC");
}
}
am I doing something wrong?
