Has anyone tried SGS roms ? Or Voodoo lagfix ? - Galaxy Tab General

The question is in the title really
It'd be interesting to see if SGS roms can run on the Tab, since they are so similar, but I doubt I'm gunna be the first to try. If anyone has done this, let us know if it has been successful (at all) or if its a total no-go.
Secondly, I'd like to see if anyone has tried the voodoo fix for the Tab. This I will give a go once I have got mine, but it'd be nice to know if it fails or not.
Cheers guys!

I can tell you off the bat that an SGS ROM will not work on the Tab simply due to the resolution differences. SGS ROMs have a framework that is set for the WVGA resolution 800x480 - The tab as I am sure you know runs at 1024x600... None of the images within the SGS framework will work.
That said there may be some form of success (after much tinerking) if you tried to using a tab's framework with an SGS ROM.

[Q] Overclocking?

setcpu has been updated to support tegra 2. also the xoom has been overclocked to 1.5ghz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972414). any ideas on how we can get some of this goodness?
I was looking into the system files when I heard this looks like it wont be as simple as just changing a text file which has max/supported cpu rates.
I spent a while on this and documented a bunch of folders and value, if someone wants me to post just say so, just dont think it's worth it.
I bet itll be better just to copy over the work done on the xoom, add drivers and get the pixel qi function working properly.
please do post your work. I myself probably wont be able to do anything with it but maybe someone else will.
Yes please post.. anything helps...

How does the rom portable tablet?

Maybe this is what he meant;
How would one port a rom from one brand of tablet to another?
I would like to transplant the Samsung(presumably HC from the g-tab) Rom to the Xoom.
What needs to be modified to get this to work?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
That's the closest I can come to making sense of it.

I think you're close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
I think what he meant was:
“Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?”

To which the only logical response is:
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.”

What I mean is that: A500 portable Samsung ROM (Virtuous_Galaxy_For_A500_V1.0.zip) do not know if you heard is not, who can be transplanted to XOOM Samsung on the ROM?

Samsung ROM advantages:
1, the video is hard to make me the most satisfactory solution
2, select the wallpaper is the most humane
3, the notification bar with brightness adjustment, and WIFI, notice, GPS, voice, auto rotation, bluetooth, Flight Mode switch
4, UI looks better
Sorry my English is limited! !

Yes it can be done but no one here will do it. You understand me?
Xoom is Android 3.2. Samsung is 3.1. People here do not want to walk backwards.
When Samsung changes to 3.2 then yes it can be transplanted.
What language you speak? Maybe Asian? Me Asian too.
Pity. Motorola can not make such a nice UI user
Sincerely hope that Motorola can produce the perfect andriod 3.x ROM

I am glad to see a “Touchwiz UX for XOOM - Alpha Stage”
As follows:
Hi for all.
Its my port of Touchwiz UX for XOOM in early alpha stage.
Pay attention!
This is not final version, errors and bugs may occurs.
In this first step i make a package of launcher only, apparently fully functional. To test this, u need root and push twlauncher.apk to /SYSTEM/APP. If u dnt like and like to revert, simply remove then and older launcher will be reverted back.
Like my work? Pay me a beer.
new alpha or beta releases will be posted in this thread...
bug reports are welcome..
requests are welcome too...

Our device is a Google device you can add all that garbage if you want then what weeks or months for updates from Motorola. We get our updates pretty much directly from Google, they stop be Verizon first. You will notice the Google logo on the back. I'm pretty sure this is not the case with the device you guys are talking about. So your saying you don't like Google Android... (honeycomb) interface? Hopefully it will be improved when we get ICS.

[ROM]UPDATE[HC 3.2.1][A501] Moscow's Alexandra III Rev 1.1 [27-01-12]

Moscow Desire's Android 3.2.1 Alexandra III Ver 1.1 ROM OC/UV Kernel
A501_4.483.01_EMEA_TMPL
Note: This is for the Acer A501, and not the A500. 500 users can run this, but you will need to modify the build.prop file to reflect Wifi-only. (ro.carrier=wifi-only). You can add this line near the end of build.prop. Folder System/ You can do this on your pc, before you install.
I won't fill this page with all types of fancy colors on every line, or huge pictures, or "ultra" huge fonts. You people are not little kids. So no need to use 50 different colors. I'll just tell you like it is (and I'll do it in 3 colors or less)
Added Installation Changes Update
Pure HC 3.2.1
I'll tell what I noticed, and between 3.2 and 3.2.1, it's this.....
Improved Performance in the Apps Drawer. Almost "0" lag time. Increased screen sensitivity. (compared to stock 3.2)
This has been tested on my Tablet with no problems so far, as with other testers. All stock apps, and games, work as advertised.
Why do you want to use this Rom? Well, not a lot out there for the 501, and seems nobody wants to do anything about it. Too focused on the a500 or ICS.
Not to mention it's 3.2.1, And it's a "factory released a501 rom", and I have stripped most of the memory and battery eating pigs out of it.
The only thing left running in Processes after install, is;
Google Services
Digital Clock (people want their alarm clock)
Android Keyboard
This is not a "system dump". 100% pure Acer Release.
Yes, there are a couple of 501 roms. But other than 1 or 2 that I know is pure 501 HC 3.2, I ask, do you want to use a 500 rom that was modified to be a 501? Do you wish your display to freeze when you're on 3g because of a mismatched kernel? Do you want a system dumped rom?
Or would you rather have a factory delivered Rom?
We have tested this Rom, and it holds true to as much stock as possible. Addition of a custom kernel, which has been tested, allows a ratio of clock speed vs battery life. Yes, there is 1 other kernel to use, but unfortunately, I cannot post this rom using it.
For NTFS External drive support, download Drive Mount from the market (tested and works) Fat32 support is normal without Drive Mount.
For Ad-hoc support, I think by now, anybody who needs it, knows where to get it.
If you cannot get GPS for some reason, you can try the 1st link in the forum. Lately, seems nobody needs this anymore since 3.2 release.
This release based on Acer_A501_4.483.01_EMEA_TMPL. RichardTrip kernel based on longer battery life with OC speed with undervoltage. Min, 216, Max 1646.
For Credits, I would like to thank:
KJY2010- As usual for his helpful advice and great insight, and for being my friend.
RichardTrip - Kernel (src lnk on his page)
JaeKar99- Boot animation. (and NO, I will not change it) you can though.
Special thanks to these people for testing, to make sure I didn't mess things up, and this is in NO order;

What's removed:
Just about everything Acer. And I mean it.
All Acer games.
All the useless Acer things that may be a process.
Apps Installed:
Other than the usual SU and Busybox...
Asus Weather
AdFree (update your host files)
Bluetooth File Transfer
CPU Master Free
Root Explorer (free)
Hackers Keyboard
MX Video Player w/codecs
Terminal
SDrescan
Card games (I love these things when I'm bored)
Acer apps moved to Data for easy removal
Acer Media
Acer Aupeo
File Manager HD
Kobo
LumiRead
Google Voice
TegraZone Games
Zinio Reader
Game Loft store
3D Photo Browser
(note that 3D Photo Browser is a useless app, but I left it in Data in case somebody thinks it's cool. Note that after you run it, it resides in system memory until you remove the app or kill the process.)
Note: I removed the Acer Media Player(s) as they stayed in memory as a process after you ended the program, and are memory pigs. I would advise to use WinAmp from the Android Market to play audio files, or whatever audio player you wish.
All Photos were taken after initial install.
GPS taken next to window (not open).
AnTuTu Benchmark was taken after initial Install while on Internal 3g.
Installation:
For Thor's CWM
1. Wipe User Data
2. Wipe Cache
3. Wipe DalviK
4. Wipe Battery Stats
Select Go Back, Goto Mounts and Storage
1. Format System
2. Format Cache
3. Format Dalvik
4. Format Flexrom (optional, depending on version, you may not need to do this)
Select Go Back and select Install from Zip File
Select Alexandra III Rev 1.1.zip
For RA Recovery
UPDATE NOTE: Version 3.14 does not have the option to Format Flexrom. This is what caused the animation loop on first flashing. I advise to update to version 3.15
(3.14)
Wipe;
Data/Factory Reset
Data

Android.secure
Dalvik
(3.15) This should take care of animation loop
Wipe;
Data/Factory Reset
Dalvik
System
Select Go Back and select Install from Zip File
Select Alexandra III Rev 1.1.zip
NOTE: you may get an Offset error xxxx. Ignore it. Seems common these days. After installation is complete, Go Back, and Reboot system.
If you get stuck at the Boot-Animation, just reboot to recovery, wipe "data, dalvik, system and cache" then Install again. It seems Acer, changed some things for the 3.2.1 501 install. You do not need to format anything.
You'll see a small "flash" during the Acer Logo. This is normal, as it is the custom kernel loading. Also, when running for the first time, you will get an "OK" prompt as the "Acer" (cough cough) APKinstaller finishes.
The Default Language is Poliski (Polish) so you can change it in the beginning. No, I am not going to change it, as it's a TMPL, and I have no idea which country you are from.
For Overclocking, use CpuMaster and set your CPU speed. 1504 is what I run the most. Set your governor to "on demand" or "Interactive" for longer battery life. Set to "Apply at Boot". If you don't like CPUMaster, then you are free to uninstall it, and Use SetCpu or PimpMyCpu.
Disclaimer:
You flash this Rom at your own risk. If you follow the instructions exactly, there is no reason why you should have issues installing the Rom. If you feel you are smarter than the instructions, and can save a little time by bypassing some steps, don't come crying. Figure it out.
Titanium Backup users, I don't want to hear it. And this goes for anybody else running 2.3 Gingerbread apps on Honeycomb. It is much better, to download an app fresh. Google loves you.
Tasker users, don't even bother. Learn the system.
Of course, all comments are welcome, good or bad.
Still giving Life, to the 501!
Download Link
Now. for removed game apps.
Note, you will have to unzip the file to your PC. Copy The game.apk to your Data/app folder, check permissions (should be the same as all other apps), and install. I do not know which ones you want, so I offer them in a zip file.
DOWNLOAD ACER GAMES
For Acer System Apps I removed. Unzip to your PC. Copy the apk (and associated Odex file if there) to your System/App folder. Check permissions (same as the other apps), then reboot tablet.
I do not offer 100% promise these will run correctly. They should. But if you have issues, let me know. Some system apps, depend on others to run.
Also note, that some of these system apps, will continue to run in memory as a process after using. That's why I removed them.
DOWNLOAD ACER SYSTEM APPS SERVER 1
This is the last ROM I will work on for HC 3.2.x. However, if you have a link to a different COM_GEN a501 rom, that nobody has worked on, and you need it, I will be happy to strip it down. Just send me the link.
ICS will be coming in a couple of months, and I doubt Acer will do anymore updates to HC. I have enjoyed playing with these Roms, and I have enjoyed communicating with everybody. But it's time to move to better things. So I hope this rom, gives you much pleasure.
May it run stable and trouble free.
Moscow Desire.
BATTERY MODS
Note: these are ONLY for Alexandra III, or a rom using the same TMPL build. Any use of these mods on another rom, will produce some very strange results.
Special Thanks - Ordio We finally got them de- and re-compiled!
Ok,these are the same as in Alexandra II. Nice and clean.

Thanks i'm downloading
Good job on the running apps.
Looks like your GPS is working even better than "the other Guy's".
Thanks for letting me help test it out for you...
Very stable and i'm quite happy with the results that i've gotten so far.
Everyone's 3g/4g speeds will vary, and i'm happy to report good 4g speeds for those that have the Roger's 4G model... i'm not sure on the AT&T model though.
Once i tested GPS, it locked on VERY quickly (however i was on wifi so it may have been just that quick)
No issues at all with titanium backup and restoring old programs. Heck, i was able to restore my settings for HC with Titanium backup ...
Of course, this is YMMV
I'll have to grab the addons for this as well .. Glad gaming works great!
Ahh, Android/data folder.. i see where those are.. that will help. thank you.
I miss the circle battery.. i was wondering if there was anything i can do to try and help port them over?
Also i just tested my usb thumbdrive (verbatim 32gb), and it works fine.. was able to copy a movie that i ripped over
Again, thank you!

Moscow
@Moscow - I'm a 500 owner not 501 but I thank you for all the work you've done on your 2 Alexandra roms. As evinced by posters on your threads it has improved the lot of 501 owners who previously appeared to be the poor waifs standing out in the cold.
Personally I am using Icy Faux at the moment however when I get round to downloading Alexandra 3 I will mod the build.prop and have fun with it on my 500 ......... and NO I will not be whining if I cause problems (that's what recovery programs are for!).
Although you profess this may be your last Rom, I hope we will still be able to enjoy your honest and acerbic remarks on the threads.

Thanks Metpolds. I, along with the other "modders". appreciate people like you.
And I speak for some of them, maybe not all.
Hope it works well for you. Read my notes, as this "official" rom, is a bit odd. I remind you, as far as I know, it's the only official 3.2.1 rom for the 501. And yes, in true Acer fashion, they changed a couple of things with the install. But no problem, just read the notes I put.
No, I am not going to quit giving love to the 501.
When ICS hits (officially), I will be there to "rip and strip". It;s just that there won't be anymore updates to 3.2. Unless somebody finds some other COM GEN's they need stripped. And yes, if you find one, let me know.
Yes, Alex II will always be my baby.

And you're still under contract to check things out.
Meant to ask, how goes it for the a510 rom you were trying out, get it to work or did you kill the wife's tab....
Don't believe you killed the wife's A501 or you'd be out with the dog right now and no pc....
And have you looked at the A200 rom, the ring looks awesome, pity it can't use back camera, 3g or gps on our tabs....
Well, for me, 3g has to be there, Also a forward facing camera for Skype.
Otherwise, I should just go get an a200
For starters, it's for quad core it seems. I suppose I could try using "somebody's" ICS kernel to jump start it. But really, until Acer releases some drivers for camera, and internal 3g, It would be a waste of time for anybody with a 501.
What it might benefit, is some folks who are working on ICS builds, to get the bugs out of their hardware accel. Or point them in the right direction to some other problem areas. Mostly it would be for 500 users though.
Of course if the kernel source isn't released, it's 50% useless. In my opinion anyhow.
When I get some time, I'll familiarize myself with some things. Right now, I've got some battery mods, and Wifi and 3g mods to take care of.
I need a full functioning tab by early Monday morn
Blazingwolf has ported the a200 rom for the a500/501 here - http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/iconia-a500-rom-development/2943-back-2-basic-a200.html
As I said, works fine on our tabs but for 3g, GPS and back camera no good...
Thought you might be able to rip the ring out and incorporate it into a rom, if you were up for the challenge....
I would, but I have NO idea where to start....
Not a dev, no time to learn...

SWEET! Will happy to try out your stuff. Love getting the inside loop... lol. And that K is just the Scandanavian coming out in me.

ICS....not yet worth using :(

Hi all,
I know everyone is working really hard on the ICS source for the S2 but from what I've experienced so far its not worth moving on from 2.3.6. I know this is all testing/dev work and things aren't going to run to smoothly but I dont seem to be able to get a stable ROM that works for all the below, at least one of them doesnt work or crashes all the time (I seem to find I'm CWM backup'ing/restoring and titanium apps all the time and restoring ROMS instead of using the phone lol):
- USB utilities - crashes when trying to use it
- GPS doesnt work to well - even with the agps patch applied
- MMS/3G signal doesnt work
- Nova launcher on most crash
- Messaging stops working from the dock - so you have to clear the data to re apply launcher settings
- some other stuff I cant think of right now
If I can put a tick in the box for all of the above I would be a happy man til then I'm sticking to 2.3.6 ROM's (Not moaning, just thought I would put it out there and see what everyone elses thoughts are) :-D

Just realized what i said...Anyway so many threads out there already regarding ICS just post in there regarding making a new thread. You only get people coming down your thread just cause you opened a new thread on a topic that is already kinda getting boring with all the crap everyday you read on here and people opening so many threads when you could just post in the ones that are already created..
thats what you get when you use a beta version. post the same in existing threads, and do read before posting another thread.
I was actually not going for.ics myself due to what I was reading... but couldn't resist anymore and have been on Darkys (Ficeto) LPB for 2 days now... I'm actually quite happy and surprised by the performance and ESP battery life... probably not.going to switch back to the bread...!
Sent from my Galaxy ICSII
I agree. I have been trying about 5 versions of custom roms with ICS which all users would say are very good but I was very disappointed in performance, and sometimes it would freeze.
ICS.....not yet released!
Be patient now.
U guys need to do a full wipe even if the ROM says no wipe. Otherwise you will definitely get issues. I was having some before I did a full wipe. After the Wipe did a fresh install of a Custom ROM and now its awesome. Definitely can't go back to GB now

No offense.
But it's still in development. "not done"
In due time it will be sorted.
But threads like these will not speed up development.
So please have some respect for those who put in effort.

I'm using latest ICS leak and everything works and hasn't crashed/FC. Nova launcher works perfect too.

Hi all,
I know everyone is working really hard on the ICS source for the S2 but from what I've experienced so far its not worth moving on from 2.3.6.

A huge squadron of super-developers are rushing your way, sir. Their mission is to make ICS work for you... TODAY. Your words are praised, and wishes are their commands, to fulfill your every need. Please, stay put, and wait for them with cookies and milk.
I agree, don't think I will use it till either samsung release it, or sammobile release a proper rom leak that samsung will later release.
Just beta versions at the moment, rather disappointing.
CM9 is supposed to be nice, but I hear too many things not working, & will they never add fm radio support?
So... For now, I'm holding out on 2.3.4

LPB (Stock rooted) has behaved extremely stable so far, in fact the modem seems to more stable in comparison to GB.
Which rom you tried and did you wipe before flashing? LPB is not perfect (after all it´s a leaked beta) but it is more than usable as daily driver

I shouldnt do this cause my mates friends uncle will kill me but.
Ive got hold of a fully working release of ics that samsung will roll out the only reason they arnt is cause they are waiting to time it for the sgs 3 release, they want to encourage people to upgrade to that and then once thats sold well will offer this upgrade for the sgs2.
There have however been reports of phones being bricked due to a time stamp in the kernel stopping the kernel from running before a given date.
So I repeat this ROM will brick your phone
flash in odin as normal

ROM development, based on Eclair/Froyo anyone?

Hey
I've recently got my NST and, after TouchNootering it, I reverted it back to stock and manually rooted & installed stuff on it. I managed to install latest busybox too (1.19.1), even better than what TouchNooter installs.
Anyways, I've been wondering if anybody here is up to the challenge of making a ROM for this device. Modifying the actual ROM is nice... but it's buggy and it feels sloppy at times, not to mention it semi-works. Some features do, some don't.
I think, that if we make it possible to run a basic Eclair ROM, we can move to Froyo and maybe then, with enough experience and all, get GB or ICS installed on it. I think it's -very- possible... it just needs to be put some work on
Anyone?
Two issues: Drivers and memory. Unless drivers are available for the version of Android you want to build, you're going to have a tough time. Unless B&N releases a newer version of Android for the NST, this is probably unlikely. I suspect we're stuck on 2.1 eclair.
The NST only has 256M of memory, so a lot of what works on other devices is going to have to trimmed down.
This isn't to say that it can't be done, but by the time you're done, it may not be so much better than what we've got. Anything is possible, of course, but I'm not aware of anything along the lines of CyanogenMod in the works for the NST. I'd be happy to be wrong.
In the meantime, there's no reason improved software can't be written to run on what we've got. At least rooting makes that possible.

Hey
Well, yes, there's the issue with drivers. Thing is, and I might be wrong at this, that a driver can be kept in newer versions and still be used. For example, in HTC Magic, the video driver hasn't been updated in *ages*, and the little device can even run ICS now. Froyo, Donut & Gingerbread both use almost the same driver versions and it hasn't had any issues so far. I'm using my own experience as base on this though.
About the memory, again experience, HTC Magic has like 512 Mb ROM and 256 Mb RAM. The NST has 256 MB RAM and 2GB ROM. I find it very possible.
Thing is, I'm not very satisfied with "what we've got". See, I bought it planning to use it as a tablet instead, since... I rarely read, lol. So far so good, I can VNC/TeamView to computers at work and my computer at home, take notes and even browse the web (well, kiiiinda...), but it's buggy as hell. I mean, the rooters we have are pretty good at what they do, but the OS itself, the way B&N built it, it's broken.
See, LatinIME doesn't work correctly or is almost impossible to use with Dolphin (or any other browser) because they also broke WebCore =/. Not to mention the colors are a bit off since it's all B&W and some texts are in the same color as the background (thanks to their Framework.res theme) so...
Taking that into account, I wanted to give a go at a ROM instead, since there isn't any ROM for this device yet, and considering we have CWM working, I find it very possible to compile a ROM and use it, or hell, at least have a pure Android OS booting.
I've made some research here:
http://elinux.org/Android_on_OMAP
http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/Android_Getting_Started#Video_Tutorials
https://docs.google.com/document/d/19f7Z1rxJHa5grNlNFSkh7hQ0LmDOuPdKMQUg8HFiyzs/edit?hl=en_US
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Compile_CyanogenMod_(Linux)
And I think it's very possible to build a ROM, using the first two links + the tutorial at google docs. Also, it seems that some procedures, tools or code made for the Nook Color are also able to be used for the NST, since they share almost the same exact hardware.
However, I'm confused on how to start. This is my first time building an Android ROM after some few failed attempts at an HTC Magic ROM, though the instructions seem to be waaaay easier than HTC's. Right now I'm downloading Ubuntu Server 11.10 x64 so I can set up a simple OpenBox environment and start pulling code... but it's confusing
I'm up for the challenge, and I'm trying to work on it, but I'm no genius and I feel that if there's more than one person working on this, we can take a ROM out which would be better than the stock ROM and would have better and cooler stuff, like USB Host Mode already included or the refresh rate fixed/faster. Hell, I even restored it to factory defaults and then rooted it manually and installed BusyBox 1.19.1 in it, something which isn't mentioned in any tutorial that I've found yet.

The issue with drivers isn't so much it being old, it's getting a driver for the E-Ink screen. It's like video cards; you can put any driver you want on any computer, but unless it's the right one, you'll be stuck at 640x480 (or in the case of Android, no display).

It's not ROM, it's flash storage or whatever the correct term. ROM (read-only-memory) cannot be written to, and the flash storage is just storage space.

WebKit could probably be fixed eventually, and fixing the framework-res.apk shouldn't be too difficult, just unpack the thing with apktool and grab notepad++ or something.

If we had CWM working, would this thread exist? Yes, it's working on the Nook Color, but getting it to work on the NST would require removing so many things and so much more, and even when it does happen it'd probably be a hollow shell of what it normally is.

Hmm, you're right. I have the idea of using Eclair's drivers included in the B&N update files (1.1.2), I dunno how to use them but if the .so file exists, there must be a way to invoke their methods, no? It's just a theory, I kinda suck at this thing of kernel drivers 'n stuff.

On another news, I followed this tutorial: http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/Android_Getting_Started up to the "repo sync" stage. It says it should take an hour and all, but it doesn't. It takes like 5 seconds, no output, nada. I don't know what could be wrong
Any help?

Hey, I love the command line I -have- to ... Anyways, didn't thought of that first, so thanks
According to this:
Code:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: 227 212 14 0 8
-/+ buffers: 204 23
Swap: 0 0 0
The device only has 256 Mb RAM? I find it enough up to ICS. My previous HTC Magic could run ICS quite happily even without hardware acceleration, Froyo ran as fast as the stock 1.5 ROM and Gingerbread ran pretty okay. I didn't have the chance to work on optimizing it because my Magic got stolen, but I bet it could've been made to work as fast as the stock ROM if correctly optimized. Taking that into account, I'm sure this device can withstand a greater android version .

Okay, according to this wiki: http://wiki.samat.org/Nook ... NST's source code is here (for 1.1):

Anybody have an idea on how to compile it though? it doesn't seem complete to me.

That doesn't make any sense, that's for compiling a Kernel... this source code is for a whole ROM (it seems)... it has the kernel, u-boot, x-loader and some android source.

EDIT:
Actually... it makes sense now (after reading the whole thread, of course)... I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the link
I think radical changes of the Android version is too much to expect.
There's not a lot of ram on the Nook.
However, I just read that one of the big differences between 2.1 and 2.2
is that big changes were made to the Dalvik VM which sped it up 2X to 5X.
I think that that would be a worthy goal.

We won't know if nobody tries. Besides, GB has been ported to phones with less. (HTC Magic, as he already mentioned)

That would be awesome for stock users, but what about those apps that break under the hackish stock ROM? (ColorNote Sync, for example) Or things like NoRefresh that could take advantage of the underlying system's knowledge.
I think working around CM sources, like someone already has posted about trying, is a good idea.
CM9 might be a bit much, but CM7 is well in the device's range.
After all, it runs a CPU like my Motorola Defy, which runs CM9 without hassle (now with HWUI). It has 512MB ram though.

This thread is over a month old, and the thread specifically about CM7 is about 3 days old. But either way, I think that the NST can handle CM. The screen refresh may make it seem slow, but it actually is a little powerful (but seeing as it was my first Android device, and my only other one is a Nook Color, it might actually be as terrible as others say).
