What can I do now - Epic 4G General

I have noobnl_Andromeda_Galaxy_ROM_V1.1.1a and noobnl Andromeda Galaxy Kernel version 1.4.0.
I have gotten the wi fi tether to work already. Also any themes or any productivity apps I may want to install. I like this rom as I did not have to wipe any data or anything. Very easy to do.
What can I do now?
Thanks.

What do you mean? You can do whatever you want. Check out the themes/apps section of the forum. You start tethering if you want, you can use setCPU depending on which kernel you want to use.

Get launcher pro and beautiful widgets and start customizing! Flash some themes if u like and get appbrain if u want app reccomendations or see what apps are hot.

I see the themes. I dont really get how to install themes. Do you put them on the SD card in zip format and install from zip? What do you mean depending on what kernal I want to use. With the stuff I put in my first post is there a specific kernel I should use? Also how would I install a kernel without messing anything up? Will I have to wipe data?

Well when you flash themes do you have to wipe data or anything like that?

Why don't you read some similar posts to yours? Theres dozens of them.

When I do a backup this is the message I get
no /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.

Backup Complete
When I try to do a restore this is what I get
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
.android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
Restoring cache...
sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext/.

Are those errors I should worry about or is just not able to restore to my sd card so it restores it to the phone memory?
Thanks.

[ROM][Updated 04/08/11]De-sensed DAS_BAMF 1.4 Non-Themed[ROM]

This is DAS_BAMF 1.4 non-themed as much as I could get it. I did this for myself but a couple people were interested so with Adrynalyne's blessing I decided to post it up for those that do not like sense. I used Go Launcher EX to replace Rosie(sense launcher) and also included the free Go SMS Pro, and Go Missed Notifications (if you want to use a different launcher you can adb push to /system/app/ or just open the ROM zip with 7zip and remove GO Launcher and replace with Launcher Pro, or ADW, etc)
IF YOU BORK YOUR PHONE, THAT'S ON YOU
Instructions
1. MAKE A BACKUP
2. Wipe data/cache/system/dalvik
2. Download ROM
3. Flash ROM via CWR
4. Download one of Adryn's kernels from ROM Manager (under MrBobrowitz's section) or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014239
5. Flash kernel
6. Be happy
Note: there seems to be a little bug with all 3rd party launchers where if you you hit the phone button and the dialer pops up, the contact list is blank and the smart dial does not work. To remedy this long press phone, select a new application and restart Launcher Pro then add the phone back, you may also have to open up the dialer and try to dial a few numbers and delete them and the contacts should appear. Not really sure why this happens.
Again, I did this for me, so I won't be offering any real support for it, and I seriously doubt Adrynalyne will either so flash at your own risk. I have been running this for a couple days and it has been working very well for me, and I will probably keep running it until something compelling is released, with that said, have fun and flash away.
All credit goes to Adrynalyne and ThatDudeButch and anyone else that had anything to do with Das_BAMF
Download ROM:

I forgot to add the GO Launcher Notifications, you can find them on the Android Market or here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6012821/com.gau.golauncherex.notification-1.apk
Additional Kernels:
You know where to find them, there's a lot floating around right now...
Thanks! I'll give this a shot!

CM7 GPS

I can't get it to work, no matter what. I've tried the MSL fix, etc etc. The closes fix I get is about 7~10 blocks away.
Why is it that it won't work in CM7, but works PERFECTLY out of the box in Salvage-Mod?
Try the app "GPS Status and Toolbox" from the market. That got GPS working for me.

Have you tried the nightly that came out after cm7 final? Downloading gps status and clearing gps data might help.

The open source drivers provided by Qualcomm don't work.
The proprietary drivers were used in CM6, too.
I did the MSL fix to get my GPS working, but ever since then the "active" icon shows in the status bar even when I stop using navigation or maps. I actually think the gps stays active because I experience severe battery drain. Even when I disable the gps the icon stays active. I have to manually reboot for it to finally go away. Grr.
enter the ##gpsclrx# your phone reboots, while still in sense lock your GPS using navigation once it locks on reboot recovery and flash cm7. That's what I was told and it works 100% of the time for me.

Make a Nandroid of your current CM7 setup.
Boot into recovery and perform a full wipe (or use Calkulin Format ALL zip)
Flash any Sense ROM
Open the Market and download MSL Reader, write down MSL.
Open Dialer/Phone and type ##4118513# (##GPSCLRX#)
When it asks you for a password type in your MSL
Reboot phone
BE OUTSIDE
Turn on GPS and open Maps, allow it to fully lock your location (may take a few minutes, do not just wait for initial lock).
Leave GPS on
Turn off phone, reboot into recovery.
Nandroid restore your CM7 backup

just curious, what do you mean by a complete lock (more notably it taking a few minutes)? i've never had a gps lock take longer than a few seconds while i'm outside. it might be off by a few blocks, but it always locks really quickly (it was really bad while i was in LA last week).
it should also be noted that i have an incredible, not an evo...but after my gps issues last week while on vacation in california (and using my phone a lot for navigation) i've begun the search for a solution, because i really love CM7 otherwise. while in downtown LA i was consistently getting a "lock" that was a few blocks away from where i was, making navigation useless. it also happened a few times on the 60 freeway on the way into the city, where the phone thought i had gotten off the freeway and would start telling me to turn all over the place even though i was still driving along at 70mph on the freeway...
I saw a few people posting this in the cm7 thread. Looks like it's working great for them on the EVO too.

Syndicate Frozen lags, what could it be?

Ok I posted a few weeks back about my phone being a little laggy when I first started it up but it started becoming progressively worse even with closing all running apps in the settings>applications>running services thing cause I thought there might be a lot running but that didn't help.
So last night thinking a fresh start would help I reflashed the newest syndicate frozen rom and my phone is still being a little slower than I would want not to mention slower than everyone elses reviews. And on top of that my battery drain iis pretty bad (dropped like 20% in the last hour with moderate use).
So I was just wondering if there's any way to pinpoint what might be causing this (like certain apps running) or a way to try and correct it? Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure what it is but ill give my experience. A while ago I had the same issue. Turn out there was something wrong with the stock ec05 tar. I had a modified version and didn't know it. No matter what rom I flashed it didn't perform well. Also, I use my epic is my main form of internet use. Most roms and mods I dl str8 to my phone. Well, it also turns out that downloading roms str8 onto the sd card game me some errors. Probably because of some fault in the data. Redownload everything you need. When you odin back to ec05 format your sd card also. Should do the trick unless there's something wrong with your phone.

One thing that might help is if you have Titanium backup or Mybackup Root freeze DRM content and SNS services. Also are you running setcpu? If so try removing it to see if that helps. If it does then your setting are off and you need to tweak your settings. Do you have journaling enabled? Another thing what kernel are you using? I liked Vision kernel over Twilight some have also mentioned Genocide being good also. I am NOT saying Twilight is a bad kernel just it does give some people issues with certain setups.

Thanks for the response. I already had drm frozen, just froze sns (what does that do?), so we'll see how that helps. I also uninstalled setcpu to see if theres any improvement there.

Also, don't use twilight 1.1 that came with srf. I've tested it and it has several issue's. Use genocide. (Genocide 1.1 was posted on pages 195-199 I believe)

Just flash the kernel no need for wipe. Just make sure you nan first.
Thanks everyone! I just rewiped and reflashed the SFR 1.1.1 again and it seems to be working fine so far.
I haven't installed all the apps I had before and don't plan on it because I have all I need on it now and it could have been an unnecessary app causing problems or just a bad wipe but either way so far so good.
Ill post back if theres any issues in the next few days. Thanks again.

Ok so I reflashed and it was working perfectly, buttery smooth no lag nothing. I was completely happy. I charged my phone and used it until about 10% turned it off and replaced the battery with a 100% charged one I have as a backup.
Once I turned it on it began lagging again, as well as draining the battery quicker than before and on top of that it did an old problem I had that I didn't mention before which when you turn off the screen it turns back on showing the lock screen then goes off after about 5 seconds.
I have no idea what it could be and why it magically came bac after a shut down/reboot :/
Also if I switch to the genocide kernel do I have t reinstall all my apps again or does it just flash and keep all info? Do I have to wipe data/cache?
Thanks again

You have to wipe cache and dalvik, then flash Genocide. It will retain all data.
Have a nice day.

Hate to tell you but that is one of the drawbacks of GINGERBREAD. All I can say is just keep clearing cache, history, etc. Grab a cache cleaner in the Market. No root required. My favorite is "QUICK APP MANAGER" it's not free but it's worth the donation.
I don't know for sure, but I've read that turning off fastboot then rebooting the phone helps...
That's one reason why I got rid of sense. Sense looks nice. But its bloated, slow, and does weird things like that. Not saying AOSP is perfect but performance wise... its so much better. At least for me it was

In your post you say "I got my EVO 2 months ago" . Hopefully you mean EVO Shift. If you do than the answer you need is in the links below. Before you do anything, remember DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST. The first link is to a BUILD PROP EDIT . It will give Sense more room to breath. The Second link is to a flashable zip. for boot.img . The zip is in the 8th post on the thread. It should give you a smoother/faster Sense experience, and possibly faster data. Hope these help . Don't forget to thank the people the threads for there work.

Yes, your phone has to be rooted.
I had the same issue, and I stopped using sense, and am using LauncherPro. I purchased it back when I had my hero, so I figured I'd dust off the app, and put it to good use. I don't get a launcher reload every few minutes, and if it does reload, it's very quick (less than 10 seconds).

The last line in my build.prop says:
dalvik.vm.stack-trace-file=/data/anr/traces.txt
I'm using the stock-rooted rom, from x99percent.
It is a problem with the latest update having more aggressive memory settings than before. I am not sure why it was set that way... but if you are rooted you can fix it.
HOME MEM set to 4096 and upped the vm heapsize to 64m = no Sense reloads and this thing flies so fast, you'd think the kernel was OC'd.

Has anyone complained to Sprint about this? Is there any fix for us nonrooted users in the works?

Make a WiFi only Rom

Hi the title tells it all I got a g2 but want to be WiFi only like without airplane mode on

Why not just turn on airplane mode then turn on WiFi?

It's a legitimate request I've seen before. I mean, why let your old devices just waste away when your children or family members could totally use them as dirt cheap replacements for iPods and such. You don't want them making accidental emergency calls or circumventing the settings you put in place.
Should be able to completely remove the radio somehow so that the cellular stuff just won't work.

That's what I need my friend broke his iPod and I told I got this old phone laying around but the u gotta put it into aplane mode each reboot and he ain't tech savvy

Maybe this is a project for some of the budding devs on xda. In theory, it sounds like a simple change. Simply remove the phone aspects of a rom and repackage. I'm sure it's harder than it sounds in terms of stability and usability though (I'm not a dev) =/

Eh, some apps certainly wouldn't work, anything that needs to communicate through telephony and such. But really shouldn't be that difficult.
I'll come back when I'm not too terribly busy with some links about breaking down and customizing ROMs and such. I know that I've found a thread specifically for this kind of thing for another device, but there are a few of them I read up on so it may take a while to locate. Hell, you could just about remove the phone and contacts apps and edit your build.prop and leave an existing ROM intact. I'm no dev or anything though lol so I'll look around.

TeamDRH over in the gTablet forums have added something similar to this into their ICS ROM for gTablet. Might be a useful place to look.
Ok well.I went and remove like all telephony apk in my Rom and some app don't work like he said

Not the OG article I had read, but after a bit of Googling I came up with a script that you should be able to set to run at boot which will disable your radio.
You may also be able to dial *#*#INFO#*#* and choose turn off radio, but that will not be persistent across reboots. I would use the script and a third-party launcher that can hide apps so that you'll keep the phone and contacts apps and such for stability, but not have them readily available.
*EDIT:
And a flashable zip! Thank you jellybellys!
**EDIT:
Just to elaborate about that flashable zip, it will actually "permanently" (until you wipe and install another ROM) disable the radio and clean out the apps that you don't want. Also installs some kind of binaries if they're currently absent from the ROM. Great find, I'm glad you asked about this!
exactly, my first thought would be just to use titanium backup and disable/freeze but not remove apps such as dialer or what you dont want/need. not sure if this will work but its worth a try. probably a few treads across xda on this (especially on older model phones) id search in those and see if there is a quick answer short of developing a whole new rom
Yeah I use that zip from jellybean but like android.process forced close alone with like sms app this is all on miui

So you used the zip, and once booted those processes were force closing?
I'll try it out on my phone, see if I can't replicate the issue and speak with the dev. Exactly what MIUI build are you on?
*EDIT:
Installed on EliteMod 120316 and upon first boot did get something about the mms process FC'ing. Upon subsequent reboots no more message though, have you tried another reboot? You had two processes FC?

This is a swing in the dark...
Try remove htcril.so or libhtcril.so from system/lib.... That should disable the radio and keep Wi-Fi

So that's the MIUI.us "Pure English?" I've just downloaded the last available build and will soon flash and then install jellybellys's zip. I'm hoping that will get me the same FC's as you are.
Once you've gotten home after the weekend, try rebooting it a time or two and see if it consistently gives you the FC's.
Also, just curious, but are you using MIUI just because it's the most similar Android overlay to iOS? To make it a bit easier for your friend? Because you could hook him up with some ICS goodness otherwise
*EDIT:
Ok, looking through his updater-script vs. my /system/app/ directory, it looks like MIUI names a couple of apk's differently. I'm currently installing a fresh MIUI so that I can see the directory before moddified by the OG jellybellys zip, then I'll update his zip to reflect those different names and try to run it again. If successful, I'll post the modified file and hopefully we can get your friend a fun little multi-tasking media player
Ok sweet umm can u send me the edit zip

Had a good look at the flashable zip, very simple. I need to learn to code, I guess this is a good small place to start lol
All I did was unzip his file, change a few things and added a couple extra lines to remove one more app he hadn't worried with. As said above this will disable your radio, install the radiooptions binary if absent, and remove a number of apk's from the /system/app/ directory.
Removed apps:
TelephonyProvider.apk - cellular service
TelocationProvider.apk - emergency location service (I just don't see the need if you're not connecting to cellular networks)
Phone.apk - your phone app - should also get rid of dialer, I'm trying to find out why it doesn't.
Mms.apk - messaging app
All credit to jellybellys @ rootzwiki.com of course, I couldn't have written this myself or anything.
jellybellys-mod-wifionly-MIUI
Again, the phone app will still be on the homescreen and you actually can't remove it. It won't dial anything, and will just cause the acore process to FC if you try. It's looking like the only way to get it really removed is to modify the ROM's zip so that it never installs the app to begin with.
I'm going to restore the apps again, see if Titanium Backup can't do a better job than outright removing the app does.
