Samsung Firmwares - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hallo all,
i recently bought a Samsung I9000.
Now i want to flash 'Froyo' on it.
When i go to a specific site, i see a lot of versions.
Does any one knows the pro's and con's or what they mean?
These are the firmware names:
I9000XWJP6
I9000XXJPM
I9000XXJPO
I9000XWJPA
I couldn't find it in the stickies.
Every help is appreciated.

The JP6/JPM were released at the same time. So they are very similar. While there is nothing wrong with these, I would adivse to go with the newer firmware.
JPO/JPA are both newer and also released at the same time. People are commenting that JPO is slightly better, but you will be happy with either one of these two.

So you would recommend the JPO?
Did you find a page anywere on the web where this info is stated?
Thanks for your reply.

If you want to find this information yourself, you will need to go to the SGS i9000 Android Development forum and look at the JPA thread and JPO thread.
I would recommend JPO, but only because of what others have said. I'm on JP6 and plan on updating to JPO eventually.

Ok, thank you.
I'm also planning to update it to JPO than.

@ Mods.
Maybe an idea to make a thread for al the firmwares? And with the explaination of the firmwares? Because this is hard to find on the internet!
Ps. You can close my thread now. Otherwise it will end up in a discussion about which rom is better.

From Google Translate:
New Android 2.2 Firmware I9000XXJP2 (27-Jul-2010)
The I9000XXJP2 is still being tested by our Russian friends, and should soon (possibly today) on http://samsung-firmware.webs.com be published.
The description of the firmware is already confusing, because "P" means the 16th Months of the year .... July is really "G".
If someone faster than I should be: please post here the download link! Thank you.

UPDATE: it is about samsung-firmware.webs.com tomorrow (July 28th) around noon (13 hours to go ").

It will be on Keis for anyone set to the XX region. Samsung-firmwares does not have the firmware yet, that is bs. Samsung leaked the news of release today. He will download it to his phone, back it up, then reupload it to his site.
Excited to see those numbers. But wouldn't get the hope up too high. Wth all the 3rd party fixes pushing the limit, I wonder how froyo will compare.

This will be on KIES in September. He's already flashed it and posted screenshots so your talking a load of crap.
I am not trying to get any one upset, But look again mate, those pics are from Samsung he even said so. Why do you think he will not upload now if he had it. You do not know the guy do you... He is one of the reasons, Samsung blocked the server so no one can get the firmwares before they release them. He does not "release firmware" he copies them and re posts them.
I found this also, looks like a go!

I looked at the link, I don't think I saw him saying the screenshots were from Samsung. He did claim downloading the official firmware from Samsung, and is still a test firmware though.

Look at the time and date this screenshot was taken: http://samsung-firmware.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/screenshot_19.png
That is after the announcement.

It seems that we get a TWLauncher shell wrapped around Froyo. Does this mean that we don't get the nice desktop I see on pictures of, for example, the Nexus One?
I'm confident we'll see a Froyo release as stated.
As to the origins of the firmware - who cares! It's a working Froyo build that can be pulled apart by the chefs, it may even be able to form the basis of a AOSP build.
Thanks for the news.

How about a little more info? No Captivate kernel is mentioned. Is this supposed to be an i9000 ROM or Captivate then?
Sounds interesting but can you at least post a link with more information or post more information ins his post please
Will it work? Yes it will. Will there be issues. Yes there will, look through the froyo threads in this forum for more info.

I see this on Samsung Firmwares now - it is an Africa/Arabic build.
Damn noobies and their quick posts. Should have known.
Probably no newer then the EU build - it is only the second 2.2 while EU is on its 3rd.
Cool, I am going to download it before samsung-firmwares gets shut down. I bet Zilch is at church...
EDIT- I think that has been there for a while. And I think I recall zilch saying it wasnt that great.

...Don't bother me with details...just tell me when they're done!
Your going to have the same issues as always, reversed orientation sensor, reversed soft keys, buttons in recovery mode do nothing, reversed speaker route etc etc.
Unless this is a new JP4, as in, newer than the one released this past week this is old news. JPK is the new darling of the I9000 forums- and a newer build.
And yes, both builds still have the issues of orientation, menu/back being the same, reversed headphone logic, etc etc.

Rom Kitchin would be my recommend

NOT unless you save your original rom .
However you can get back to Stock Samsung rom that's the firmware before its been customized by the phone network .

Seriously dude, if you can’t give an answer, you are allowed to not post anything and waist more space. If you really feel you need to say something, direct the user, or do something useful.
Darkys rom is probably the best - at least the one I enjoy most.
Ps. Even though your question borders on being General, if you want to ask ROM related question please do so in the "Galaxy S I9000 Q&A", before someone die.
thanks JJEgan and everyone for support, i'll try some roms!

Cincinnati Bell Froyo update for Milestone XT720!!!

Has anyone tried the official Cincinnati Bell Froyo update for their Milestone XT720?
Finally, there's an official release for this. Check it out here!
No way!?
An official release from CIncinnati Bell!?
How come nobody has said anything about this yet!?
It's an article, any download links?? Rev?
**Edit**
325MB is quite large, (downloading anyway) Rev or any of the guys, can you break down the contents and see what's up please? Much appreciated!
**Edit**
I just browsed through the PDF instructions and it seems that you may opt to have an unrooted 2.2.. Nice!! Although we still don't know how this ROM performs, i'll flash the nandroid once i get the download to finish and post how it goes, although i'm not quite sure if i'm gonna use titanium backup.. I'm used to being on the user's end not the tester's.. LOL..!
There are links in the general forum in this thread
I guess he isn't allowed to post it in the proper forum without being treated like a jackass??? We know you beat everybody to it.

Have you tried playing HD video yet?
i read thru the CB update.. seems like its dex ROM with modifications? so i presume theres no benefits to changing to that over Khal's?
It's unrooted Dexter's Froyo
It's unrooted Dexter's Froyo....
I cannot root my device after upgrading to this ROM.
I stucked at Reading OS Version Properties.
I just click OK when it asked if my ROM is 2 or newer, and nothing happen. My device still unroot.
Should be backing up SD card and flashing the rom with a spanking clean one and shouldn't have any issues. The data and apps will cause conflicts if you dont

There is a thread with all the links and tools needed to deodex any official rom of your choosing so why pay when there is everything available right here?
I am sure if you ask nicely one of the dev's will be able to give you a hand.

Yeah I saw that thread. It looks crazy long and need to install alot of tools. Also I noticed in the replies in thread that its not that easy and will come across problems. Im new to the whole thing and was worried I might break something.
But Ill give it a go I guess.
Thanks
The only way to get it right is practice. Just follow the guide to the letter and you should be fine.
