Autofocus seems to be great to record videos in HD. I made some quick tests and the results were very nice.

I don't understand how this is difficult... The Youtube button is available on many editors, not just XDA.
Youtube tag = the video ID.
e.g. for yours: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM4_mbud0Cg
So click on the Youtube button and put in TM4_mbud0Cg.
It's not rocket surgery and it saves people from having to browse away from XDA.

Gonna go get the fancy car out & take a vid to test it.
Someone know something simple to edit the mp4 and crop it before I post it?
This is weird, I was thinking video autofocus worked like in the N900, but in the x10 is full automatic or am I wrong?
In the Nokia N900 you can press the camera button to focus while recording the video...

Thanks, and it was a good night too. Seemed a bit expensive for £100 but as everyone loved it it was well worth the money.
Here are some of mine, 2 are night videos, one on top is With Night Mode and bottom is without Night Mode
IMO i think without Night Mode seems to be a lot smoother but with Night Mode you see more but you can see noise as well

Hi Guys,
I am guessing the HD2 doesn't come with video recording (strange for a top smartphone as this) but is there any chance of a software solution coming in the future that might support this feature?

Why do you guess this....Are you talking about 3g video calls, then no..
I`m sure you`ll be able to take videos though...
aren't there videos taken with HD2 floating around in youtube?
Yes there are. And yes, HD2 has video recording. The "guesses" come from the official spec sheet where video recording isn't mentioned I think.

I think you're confused by the Iphone - until recently it didn't support video recording - as far as I know, winmo has always had that when a camera is installed?
but just to set this straight, what do you mean with video recording?
start the camera and record a video and save to memory card or something else?

Because almost every phones (except apple) imaginable in the last 5 years have had video recording? A cheap $25 samsung slider has video recording, so what makes you think a high-end $800-900 phone doesnt come with one? That's like asking if a new Ferrari 458 will be expensive...

Not to sound like a troll, but as a genuine comment knowing people who had the iPhone as their first "proper" smartphone, they've been genuinely surprised that pretty much every other camera-containing smartphone ever made has video recording and mms (copy and paste/multitasking/etc less so).
Just wanted to say that some people have to cut the attitude, I was only asking a question! and the reason I thought it didn't come with video recording is because a preview said as much and I thought it was strange. This will be my first smartphone so give me a break!

There is one video sample here. It's not as bad as some, but it's no dedicated video camera.

shaky as always
So here are 2 videos, The top one is from recording with my EVO and the bottom is from my last Palm Pre. I guess I just want an understanding, what is the cause of this and is it because its at 24fps , is the Evo not fast enough recording this fast motion? Can this be fixed with software? Thanks an Enjoy
EVO

Pre

Looks the same to me.
Seriously, I hope they fix that video.
Here is one of my dog that doesn't look anywhere near as bad as yours. This was from my evo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZFE8AmVbGs
Ah, embarrassing that the Pre-Video is so much better. Maybe the Cyanogenmod has some solutions for this garbage. Yeah video isn't that bad in daylight etc...but wow in lower light settings...nothing drastic, it still is pretty sub-par.

Your video was set to Private and really, dont see a difference? Look at the Shadowing , you dont see that or trailing on the Pre vid
Hopeful for a fix tho, I even tried lowering the settings and same issue, weird though , If I use Qik to record however, I dont get the trailing or shadowing, but very compressed. I guess like everyone says, it has to do with teh 3GP compression etc.
should be able to see my vid now, sorry about that.
I used qik to make my video.

Nice vid of dogs, It makes me miss my pits
dang I want 60 FPS lol hopefully soon
wow, the EVO's video is just plain embarrassing.
Well theres one thing you have to remember..
The pre video is being recorded at a higher framerate and lower resolution.
The 24 FPS does seem to make a difference but it could also be the way youtube handles video..
Bah, i don't know the evo one looks like crap
The pre video looks much smoother. I hope they fix this ****!!
Try both outside in daylight.
They should perform similarly or the evo will pwn.
Wow. I tested my video mode of my Evo a few weeks ago down on the coast of washington and posted the videos on my youtube. They came out just fine on a major overcast / cloudy day.

Can someone do a video comparrison on the vibrant, between HD video capture to the 16gb built-in ram and HD video capture to, say, a Class 4 Micro SDHC card?
I just want to see if it is consistent, or if the video quality will degrade\appear less with the use of the slower media?
I would greatly appreciate it, if video could be posted to youtube or someone could attach the actual raw footage to a reply on this thread... but if not, at least a comparrison...
I have asked this question, 2 days ago, on another forum, and as of yet, have not received an answer...
One more bump to the top.
I'm uploading two short videos now. Both are shot at 1280x720 resolution. Both links are HD so I would be on a desktop (and I would also pause it at the start to let it fully download before playing). I have to say neither look very impressive. I'm sure others who know more could do better. Also, I saw you posted this thread TWICE, AFTER I decided to help (and in the Development section).
Next time if you do that, don't expect any help.... please do not be that guy.... if you are, just go to another forum.

What exactly is unimpressive about it? What were you expecting? I couldn't see a difference between either; and I thought both were excellent - for a phone! I haven't seen dedicated HD camcorders, but given that they are typically $500+ with hardware dedicated for video shooting, I'd say that this is extremely impressive. But even just as videos I think they are very very good.
Can you provide a link to something that you do find impressive? I'm not being dismissive or facetious, just wanted to know what the standard is. Thanks.
is it jst me or does the inernal memory video look a little brighter then the sd one...sd one looks a little bluer...both look great tho..jst commenting on any differences
^ I've watched both side by side and it could be my monitor not being great, but it was hard to tell much of a difference. I wish I spent a little more effort on those videos, but they work okay i suppose. Perhaps someone else will do more of a color test of sorts....
wow, those look incredible for a cell phone. Keep in mind that 720 is just a resolution, there is much more goes into video than just the resolution. For instance bit rate, and the sensors used to capture the video.

I really love the phone and especially its photo capabilities.
Yet the video lags while recording are really bad.
Here a random unedited testvideo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbXSOsVaE0
At the end theres no sound which probably results from the freezing where no sound is recorded.
Therefore the video is longer than the recorded sound.
I just checked and firmware is up to date, battery was full & taskkiller emptied RAM before recording.
Hope there is a fix incoming

Well, with stabilization on you get distortion as the frame moves, but it's hardly noticeable. Beats a jerky video.

It destroys the image with to much compression. Usually ends up with a more blurry pic.
But im speaking from the Xperia X10, not the Arc. But I could only assume its the same as of now.
ive just replaced the memory card on my arc to a 16gb kingston class 4.....seems marginally better with regards to video stutter...need to run a few more tests first though.

Yeah that a **** video dude..I ve got the same problem..The video lags a lot..I dont know whether there is a solution..hopefully a 3rd party app??
My mum told me to record my little brother's rehearsal for the regional artistic cycling tournament (he got silver btw ) cuz she was at work .The vid lagged so badly, also with the 5 sec freezing and some random 1 sec freezing. The whole performance is only about 10 min. I tried with and without image stabilization and some other settings as I was desperate to get it recording. In the end I asked my brother to do it again and used the milestone(Droid) from the coach to record it.
I have the fragments of the recording on my arc if anyones interested
Not that I care much of the performance as its his first year, but my mum was angry and laughing at my phone.
Bottom line: Awesome cam but useless videorecording.
Sony should come up with something..Video recording is ****.. :S

That's why you have tap to focus so you can tell the thing what you want it to focus on. It's really simple, you want it to focus on something in the video just tap on it on the screen and woah! It will remain focused on it.

Resolution 1920x1080, anti-shake on, video quality superfine, the rest were set to default.
I can record and play back in 1080 on the phone, but I cant seem to play back the files on the computer without the image breaking up into a blocky mess. I'm using VLC to play them. Has anybody else come across this issue? 720 is fine. I thought it was the sd card, but even recording to the phone gets the same issue. Weird.
Well,
I see most annoying problem from SGS2 known as Video Stutter or frame drop issue has migrated to SGS3: http://mobile-review.com/review/imag...hoto/video.mp4
"Frame drop issue" printscreen from mediafire (min:13, max:39), but should be within range of 26-35.
PS: Exchanged mine SGS2 6 times, until got proper one camera module.
Galaxy Nexus records way better 1080p.
