Hi guys,
I've been having problems with DroidWall, it's basically a firewall for Android.
For most this it's working great, prevents updates from the market auto updating etc.
The problem I face is I want to allow gtalk through Droidwall, however even once I have allowed Gtalk through, it still can't connect to the servers to log in.
As soon as i disable DroidWall it works straight away.
Are there dependencies that need to have access as well or something?
Has anyone else has this problem?
Thanks in advance
I have this issue with Check-In Droid as well. Complains that api.foursquare.com is unavailable with FW on, fine with it off. I have added the exception for it in DroidWall as well. Anyone got any ideas?

firewall thing? bug thing? any solution or fix?
Don't worry... its just the market having troubles. This happens quite often, especially on the eve of an update to android.
Just keep cancelling and installing or wait for it to settle down. Welcome to android!
Don't worry. My office WiFi also doesn't work for Android Marketplace. My home WiFi works though. Probably the corporate firewall blocks the access to some custom port required for Marketplace to work. On googling, I got a tip that; if your google talk app works, then probably you marketplace should also work.
Just try it on a WiFi with no restrictions and it should work fine. 3G should also work.
right, after the admin gave me full access, it worked
thanks to ftgg99 too for helping me finally choose this tab
What I noticed when that happens, if I tap the home key then open Google Talk and signout then sign back in... It starts downloading over wifi.
Just my observation.
I can confirm, it's the firewall. I was about 5 seconds away from a factory reset (that is all I had left to try), but then I found this thread.
I have a "failsafe" rule setup that allows all outbound traffic to go out regardless of port, on my wired and wireless subnets. Once I enabled it, all my downloads came down.
I always figured with my G1 that you had to be connected to Google Talk to download, but I also thought you needed to be over 3g. I now know wifi works, just open up the firewall some.
Hey guys, I am facing a weird problem after updating an OTA released yesterday by HTC (2.2.1). My gmail app and market app is not working when on wifi. It works perfectly on Mobile data connection though (EDGE). I get a no connection error in gmail and network error in market app.
I have done the following but to no avail.
1. Soft reset and boot into safe mode.
2. Uninstalled task killer app.
3. Deleted all data for these apps and updated the gmail app and setup the account again.
I have not tried the hard reset as yet. Can anyone help me out please? TIA
Thats not good at all. Is your handset branded?
Hey Andy,
Thanks for replying although your reply does make me nervous :s. I am from India and we only get unbranded sets here. So to answer your question it is a unlocked unbranded phone running stock firmware.
By the way after I posted the question I did get these two apps working once for sometime but since then it's the same problem. I am starting to wonder whether it has to do something with the wifi although all the remaining apps are working fine and dandy.
Is the wifi access point owned by you? You could try turning it off and on again, that may help.
Have tried that. It is my home network that I am connecting to using a linksys wireless router.
UPDATE - I connected my phone using internet pass through i.e. sharing the internet through PC via the data cable and I still get the same error which leads me to believe some setting on the router provided by my ISP is causing this. Although what I fail to understand is that it was working fine till yesterday and nothing have been changed in the router setup recently.
Hmm... that's odd. Did your ISP supply your router? My ISP pushed a firmware update to my router about 8 months ago that broke pretty much everything wireless.
Is it just Gmail & Market that don't work over wifi? Does your browser and other apps work?
Yes indeed, my ISP provides a router which is then connected to my wireless router. The strange thing is everything else is pretty much working including gtalk.
If your router supports DMZ and you know how to set it up, you could try putting your DHD's IP into the DMZ to eliminate the possibility of your routers inbuilt firewall blocking Market & GMail.
Maybe a DNS problem? Ensure you have good ones... You can always test Google ones 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4
Thanks for showing interest guys. I for some strange reason cannot access my router settings page. I will figure that out but the stranger things are happening with my apps. After a bit of tinkering I have found a behavior which stumps me.
These are the steps I follow:
1. Sign out from gtalk.
2. Go to manage applications and clear cache and data for gmail, market, download manager, Google backup transport, google partner setup and google services framework.
3. Restart phone.
After this my gmail app starts working on wifi but talk does not start anymore and market also throws an error before even accepting the terms. I uncheck and check the background data services and I am back to square one i.e. gmail stops syncing saying no connection, gtalk works as usual and market starts giving connection error (after accepting terms).
I seriously think now there's a serious flaw in the software and not something to do with my router settings.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.
Simillar problem appeared for me in Locations. I couldn't list country maps for preload on wifi without 3G. After turned on 3G, it listed the maps - turn off - and i could download with wifi.
SKype sometimes works. At other times, it reboots the tablet and shuts of the wi-fi.
If you are are having problems with Skype, such as the tablet rebooting after touching the call button, you are not alone.
Below are some of the messages from the forum at skype.com

No problems of any type with Gtalk. If the folks at Skype can tear themselves from counting the money that Microsoft will pay them, they might start to fix this problem and also add VIDEO.
The Microsoft team might be interested to know that there are no problems with Google's Gtalk. If Skype does not fix this, we should all move to Gtalk, which already has video today.
Same here rebooted almost everytime I tried to use it.
I thought it was just me maybe bcz we deleted the fone apps

Go into settings, head to Applications and then go into Manage Applications. Scroll to Skype and then hit "Clear Data".
Restart your tablet.
Go back to Skype and set it up again. Don't allow it to merge or see contact data on the tablet (the 3rd option).
Now try a test call. If that doesn't work I'm not sure what the problem could be for you.
I'm on a stock (never been rooted) device and I don't have any issues with Skype.
I discovered this bug also. If you disable mobile surround it works. But my last update fixed this problem.
My tablet is unrooted, and still has all the original factory apps.

Thanks. Someone else mentioned about turning off Dolby surround, and I tried it.
Worked for a while, and then started crashing again.

Thanks for this suggestion, also. I have tried this as well (procedure similar to what happens when you reinstall Skype). Worked for a while, and then started crashing again.
3) A third suggestion from another poster was to change the WiFi disconnect policy to 'never when plugged in.
Again, this worked for a while.
A Youtube video that shows what the problem is.

Not confined to the A500, as Xoom users are also complaining about the same problem.

I think the problem lies with the Skype port to Android and not with the A500, or Xoom. When skype crashes on the A500, it shuts off the Wi-Fi connection.
Verizon's Skype client shuts down Wi-Fi on Android phones?
According to Skype Journal, Verizon customers using an Android model cannot use the Skype client and Wi-Fi together at the same time. Something in the software disables theWi-Fi radio and the user gets a message that reads, "Skype mobile does not currently work on WiFi and requires switching to a Verizon Wireless data network connection. This may affect other apps using a WiFi connection."

"September 2, 2010. Wednesday night Skype updated its Android-based client to include support for Wi-Fi connections. Previously the service was available only for Verizon's 3G network, and would not load until the user shut off their Wi-Fi connection."

Skype crashing
Skype to Skype calls work fine on my A500. What causes the tablet to crash is when you attempt to make a Skype Out call (i.e. Skype to landline/mobile).

Crashes in all these scenarios: skype-skype, skype-landline and skype-mobile, and disconnects from Wi-Fi (Netgear router).
I have tried another Wi-Fi router (different brand, SMC) to see if the problem still happens. Sadly, yes.
I restored the phone.apk app and it is working fine now. If you have phone.apk removed, try to restore it and see if it works. Or maybe it is just random.
I'm completely lost as to what is wrong with Android, I can turn on WiFii and sometimes it works great, other times I get nothing other than an IP, so what does that mean. It means the initial handshake to the DHCP server is succeeding, but once I have a connection, I can not do anything at all. I've downloaded "Overlook Fing" and when this happens basically I can not do anything pings, traceroute ... all fail with 100% packet loss. If I go back to a cellular connection then I get data again, but sometime if I keep turning WiFii off and on repeatedly it will work eventually, also sometime rebooting the phone helps, but none of these are sure fire solutions, and often only work about 20% of the time. When at home or at work, I'd really like to to waste my data plan as I have WiFii, but since it fails so often and when it fails I get no email and see no messages as to what has failed I'm stuck not trusting WiFii ever.
So far the only solution or recommendation I've gotten is reinstall, which helped but it started up again later. Now between the time when it worked and when it did not work, I did not install any new software or change any data settings on the phone. Also as I said I know the WiFii can get an IP so the radio works, its just it will not send any packets. I even tried disabling Droidwall, but that made no difference either.
Recommendations?

1.Wrong Section (not trying to be rude).
2. I had a similar problem but the simple fix was to reset the router(silly me), which i doubt is the cause for your problem. Sounds more like a hardware problem.
3. If it's a software problem, flashing the specific wifi module on your phone should help....otherwise flashing a new ROM should help. If it's a hardware problem indeed.....no fix.
Felt this was the right place as it is an Atrix that is causing the problem. Also I've try both stock and Alien ROMs same issues with both. I'm hoping there are some logs on the Atrix at the OS level with information to review to find out whats wrong.
Eric
have you tried connecting to other wifi networks?
Exactly what are all of the wifi related apps you have installed? Any wifi profile apps like Zakus Wifi Profiles?
You listed Droidwall, which looks like it could cause your issues. What do you mean by disable? Just kill the task or freeze it using TiBU? The Droidwall app might respawn soon after you kill it as a task. Try uninstalling or freezing Droidwall to make sure it's not running.
First off, I believe what he meant by wrong section is it should be in Q&A. Second, what kernel / radio are you using? That is kinda important. Stock? 1.77 radio? 1.97? I had a lot of problems with 1.97 radio, but 1.77 works perfect for me. Where as others say 1.77 is terrible for them and 1.97 works perfect for THEM, so...
Teamviewer was working well on WiFi when I was on Stock Rom. Since I have switched to different Custom Roms, it has not worked on any of them. If I am on Data, I am able to use Teamviewer, but not on WiFi. Error message says "Signed in failed. Please check your internet connection and try again." Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution? Thank for the help in advance.
Fixed:
I finally figured it out after months with this issue. I thought it was the ROM, because it would work sometimes and then it would stop working. Today I found someone who had this same issue and it turned out to be the AT&T Modem. For some reason if IPv6 is Enabled it causes some android apps not to responds or get stuck loading. Why would it affect android apps I don't know, but it does. Maybe someone here can explain why. But if anyone is having this same issue and your modem/router has IPv6 enabled, just disable it.
I tried on a different wifi and it connects. It must some settings on the router.
If you are on Talk talk, they blocked it network-wide the other day
TeamViewer fixed after LineageOS OMS 7.1.1 update. I guess it was a ROM issue. Same update fixed Firefox dark screen.

"Hi, I've had this exact problem for months and I just now discovered out how to fix it. Open your router page in a browser (ex: my AT&T router page is http://192.168.1.254) and in the settings select LAN --> IPv6. Disable IPv6, then save/apply. Turn off wifi on the android, wait a few seconds, turn wifi back on, and voila. "
