How's the camera of dopod838/HTC TyTN

I am currently an owner of o2 atom , those who've used it will know whY i am so skeptic , the camera of o2 atom is the WORST i've seen in my entire life , hell my o2 IIs was million times better with it's 1.3 mega pixel camera
Users of dopod838/HTC TyTN can you pls temll me , how's the picture quality , and how's the VIDEO quality , can we take a normal video with normal frame rate ? or will it lag like I am using a pathetic webcam

For a phone/pda/taoster device it has a decent camera. Here are a few pics I took in chicago while moving...in a truck, and I think they came out pretty good.

thanx nick , very decent picture, could you also tell me how's the video quality , is the video good , or does it skips ?

photo and video quality are good in outdoor / good lighting conditions (photos are not as good as but close to k750 quality, video is better) but at night and in dark places they are terrible.

Because the TyTN has onboard MPEG-4 hardware compression, the video comes out very smooth without any skipped frames. However, the compresion makes the video look kind of weird sometimes. Basically it looks as if you are looking up at the video from the bottom of a pool or something, with the image swimming around and looking very liquid. It's worse if you rotate the camera a bit while panning left-right.

@darky , at night I ain't expecting anything both in the photo mode and the video mode .
@rassah , will it be asking you too much to upload a small video if feasible , cause I cannot visualize the 'liquid' effect of yours ,though I am happy of to know atleast i doesn't skip

set contrast and sharpness to 1
as for video the coolcamera software ver 1.15b (third party) can record in avi which greatly improves the quality.

using my camera tweaks u can achive this sort of work with the hd2

hi all been away for awhile and id like to post some pictures from my hd2 these pics are unedited and are purely hd2 camera setting only with of coarse my superfine quality tweaks and stuff i posted few months back

From the very beginning I've always diseregarded pictures taken by the HD2 as they always looked with "washed away" colours. And I am not necessarily comparing them to my eos 400d, they do not keep the pace even by far with my very first coolpix 3200, let alone the coolpix s2 I have now.
They may have nice detail sprint, but the way the colour is so undetailed putted me off big time.
Not to say that this effect is absent in your pictures, but they are the very first I see made by the hd2 that have that effect the least visible.
EDIT: since I'm at it, why not asking if you can provide the registry keys that can be imported after every flash in order to update the camera settings to 5M/widescreen off/grid on/sharpness and contrast+4 and so on? You know I'm dead lazy when it comes to search the registry

is really pink-ish and it's not the horrible pink stain in action?
EDIT3: for the comparison sake, this is a picture I shot this morning to take a memento of one of my blossoming plants (it was not a test by any means), and all the quality enhancements have been set:
and I still see the horrible washed out effect...

Some of mine taken yesterday, without any fixes, just stock 1.66 ROM...

Photo quality is really bad

Hy 4 all!
I have CM6.1 with Froyo on my Legend and I use the built-in camera app. My photos are always blurry and like so they were taken in a foggy, cloudy place. I have tried to increase the ISO, Deblur, decrease the lightness, increase the sharpness and etc... but nothing has helped. I think the LED flash is too strong. I dont know what more can I do. Has somebody else this problem? Is there a solution?

Unfortunately, the camera sensor on Legend has it's limitation, if you do care the quality of photo you shot, you better carry a DC or a DSLR to solve this problem.

Yes, the flash is way to strong and built too close to the lens I think. The only thing this cam is good for is well lit day time shots. The flash will destroy any picture if used.

The flash is good as a flashliht though...I couldn't live without that...
I'm using Stock-like ROM with the original app and the quality is just bad too...

I don't find the Legend too bad, though I've never owned a really good camera so that might be why. I'm happy with the quality tbh, I used the app Vignette with the quality set to 'superfine'.

Well, yes, it can do a good picture while taking shot on a sunny day, although the shot is too light and unbalanced...Also the quality is good because of the resize - look at it in original an you will be surprised

Oh, come on, boys and girls.
What do you expect from a lens as big as a pinhead, a focal distance of maybe 4 mm and 5 mm sensor behind it?
It's good for a snapshot but you woulnd't want your wedding picture being taken with that.

Yeah, I use both Legend and Samsung Fascinate, the Fascinate's camera is much much much better, and flashlight mode is really good. I believe I can take wedding photos with my Fascinate. HTC's camera is never close to "good", always causes pink area on the photo.

Actually none of HTC's phone produce good quality pictures. NONE. I find the quality is acceptable for a phone. If you want the picture perfect quality then I don't think phones will cut it. It is good enough for my use though.

Simple CameraFix for better pictures.

First, there will be no disassembly pictures, because i did not have a camera, just look at the youtube disassemblyvids.
You basically open the batterydoor, unscrew the screws for the back, pop it of, pop out the cameraglas, and polish away the faded AntiReflective coating with a rag and toothpaste.
Clean the Camerasensor and glas with windowcleaner afterwards. Put it back togheter.
Profit.

I did this to mine the other day, although I didn't disassemble it, I just cleaned the lens while it was on the phone. It really made a huge difference to my photo's, before they were all bloomy and blurry, now they are nice and sharp! :laugh:

Reminds me of the 'fix' back when I had a MyTouch 3G Limited Edition Fender (i.e.: HTC Magic/Sapphire). Except the glass filter was much much easier to remove.
But yea for me, since I'm already walking around with an expensive Olympus Pen E-P3 I have a number of Lens pens in my bag, one of which being a micro that just enough to cover the G2's glass cover and take any film right off.

Wouldn't that have a negative impact on shots outdoors in sunlight?

Indeed it would, harsh glare/flare, the alternative would be to simply kick up the contrast a little on the image. Which is what I suspect the software did on gb, when full camera driver/control was available.

One thing I read about. CM7 and such ROMs compress pics, causing picture quality to be subpar. Believe someone posted a fix on another phone thread, I could never figure out how to implement that for the G2. It explains why Sense ROMs and stock have better picture quality.

Depends on the camera drivers used in the kernel and how the provided software works with it. For example If the Desire HD had gotten ICS, or when the Virtuous team manages to rewrite the drivers, direct control over camera's hardware will allow some camera apps (third party or otherwise) to make the most use of the camera's raw data, which can then be tweaked prior to compression.
I'm not very familiar with how it even works now, just that the drivers some of the ICS roms use currently is kind of a work around, i.e.: no real control over the camera but 'functional' for the most part. It's like getting your 3D accelerated graphics card working with at least some 2D functionality.

I also used tootpaste today for cleaning glass and result is very big! :good:

did you removed the film of camera?

Sur I did, and the camera is clean and with no scratchs, can you post some pics taken with yours.

I find that your picture is by far better than mines, I don't know what is the problem, this phone wasn't new (refurbished), maybe they have put a non original camera ? what to do now ?

Try downloading a different camera app and see if it is any better.

My camera has inconsistencies (blur in areas), camera is always going out of focus and in frequently, the image is quite often warping (noticeable when recording).
I use Mi2raw now.

They seem fine to me. You could download and install CamSpeed. It's a Camera Peformance benchmarking application. Yes usually benchmarking applications are laughed at but if you're having doubts, why not try it and compare with other G2's?
If you're still not satisfied, download and install XCam and use that instead of the LG Cam.

with camspeed, I get a rank of 411 and score of 412, it seem poor compared to other devices with 2000+ rank.
I already use xcam, it give better performances but still not good enought.

Can someones please run this test and tell us there score ?

your first picture appears to have been taken through the windshield of a car. Anti-reflective/glare coatings on the windshield as well as road grime will cause your pictures to look bad. Also looks like there is some reflection from the dashboard as well.
The second picture looks ok. I see a blurry spot in the lower left that may be due to motion.
Is your phone in a case with a plastic cover in front of the lens?
I have been using x-cam on my VS980 and get very good results.
