First i would like to thank you all for some interesting reading
i have just recieved my DHD and love it, my problem is that my sd card shows up just fine on the phone telling me i can unmount it and available space blah, blah, on the same screen when i connect it to the pc running windows 7 as soon as i select disk drive the sd card is un-mounted and then it is not visible in windows explorer also i have removed the sd card and placed it in my pc manualy and sits there looking for drivers
thanks in advance Mick
I assume you have selected "DISK DRIVE" from the drop down list that appears when you connect a USB cable? If so, this is most likely a Windows driver problem. So you might need the HTC drivers.
If you install HTC Sync (found on the card supplied with the phone) that should install the appropriate drivers. If it's not there, go to the HTC website and download latest HTC Sync version.
Can you try a USB stick or a standard card in the card reader of you PC and see if they work?
It could be a faulty SD card, I had problems with the one sent with my phone and had to replace it. All working ok now.
hi thanks for your reply i have done all of the above but still no joy, if the sd card was faulty i would assume it wouldnt work with the phone at all, the only thing i havnt tried is install the htc syn on my laptop to see if its a windows 7 issue or issue with my setup
otherwise i will have to wait and see what htc say about my issue
Cheers
Mick
Wait so let me get this right...
SD card in phone - Works
SD card in phone, hooked to computer using USB and selecting Disk Drive - Does not work (cannot see in Windows)
SD card directly in computer - Does not work...
Sounds like your issue is with Windows, not with HTC or your SD card...
Are you on a work computer by any chance? Can you plug normal USB flash drives in OK?
Either you're missing the Mass Storage driver or it's been disabled on your computer.

Hello
My Touch HD can't read microSD cards anymore. One day I noticed that Storage card is missing from File Explorer. I put that card (an 8 Gb SanDisk SDHC) into my laptop's card reader and all I found out is that the card has bad sectors that cannot be recovered. So I bought another 8 Gb microSD which works OK with my card reader and my Polaris but the HD doesn't read it. When I connect the HD to my laptop I get the USB2PC popup where I have de Disk Drive option and if I select it nothing happends. What could be wrong?
ROM: 1.56.479.0
Radio: 1.13.25.24
SPL: 1.54 SSPL
I got mine to work by using
http://www.cnetx.com/format/download.asp
No problems since.

@Andrew
Nope... still nothing...
Ok check the pc to usb.
Check on the HD Start/Settings/Connections/USB to PC
UNCHECK Enable faster data sync
Boot your pc and HD then try the USB connection again.

Andrew
I already did that and nothing happened...
Ok can you connect with Activesync to the Hd storage ?
@bigdish
I can connect ActiveSync to the internal storage only. The computer cannot read the microSD card unless i plug it in the card reader via an adapter. Nor the disk utility tools can't read the card through the usb cable connection, no mather which type of connection I choose in the USB2PC popup.
Mmm
My problem was different to yours - I cound see the card in the HD but the file info was garbage - my pc cardreader could not read it so thats why I suggested flash format which cured my problem.
Have you tried soft reset on the HD without the card then insert it again ?
@bigdish
Even hard-reset it with the card taken out. I cannot understand what the problem might me and I am thinking about sending it to service. I am starting to think that this ain't a software problem
Hi, I having a problem where it either takes ages (more than 3 mins) for windows to recognise the SD cards when I connect via USB, or else doesn't recognise there is any external storage connected to the PC..seems to happen on different PC's so it seems to be an issue with the SGS (my old G1 always works fine).
When I connect to the PC, It asks which type of connection i want, I select Mass Storage and then mount the SD card.
Edit: and when it DOES recognise the card, There are no files listed in it....
Edit: THis also happens when connected to Kies...both cards appear empty
Have you tried to use "Mass storage" option instead of "Ask on connection"?
Yeah, tried both. Now no XP machine will recognise phone...
Tried it on Ubuntu and works straigth away
Running on WP7
now trying to activate Windows Live ID
But when i plug Usb to my phone it doesnt work .
is it my sd card doesnt compatible ?
San disk 8GB class 2
When U flash WP7 with SDcard ,WP7 will RE-format the SDcard to an unknow partition(be part of the wp7),so when you connect it to your PC ,it can not be recognize. but if you use a cardreader ,you'll find a 200MB-size partition , and it can be used。
the only way to back your normal card you need to formar you SD with some software, like “Panasonic SDFormatter”(free)
do you launch zune on your computer or not?
usb in WP7 is very freaky it only works when zune is launched
even then you can only sync through zune that is a bit of pain
hope they fix this in next builds
yeah i did launch zune already , probably i need to format my sd card first and try again.
Thanks
Still Fail
format my Sdcard already
but the problem still there #%@$
when i open windows mobile device centre.. my phone doesnt connect to my pc..
OK, something weird just started happening. For some reason, my Win 7 PC will not display the contents of my micro sd card when I connect my A500 to my pc. My pc recognizes the connection as soon as I plug it in, the dialog box asking if you want to open the folder comes up, all of the files on the internal sd partition are viewable, but when I click on the ext sd card it opens and nothing is displayed. I took the micro sd card out of the a500 and put it in a usb reader and everything was fine. All files were there and accessible. I even ran checkdisk on it and defragged it. I stuck it back in the a500, rebooted, and connected it to the pc and still nothing is displayed when I click on the sd card. This wouldn't be a big deal but now it makes it real difficult to move any files to my a500 from my pc. I have to copy it to internal memory and then move it to the ext sd using a file manager on the a500. If anyone knows of a solution please chime in.
My a500 is currently running a stock rooted 3.2.1 with all the latest updates installed.

I had similar problem to u except I only had internal storage showing on PC. You can try this - Remove micro sd put it in a usb reader and transfer any file to it, I just used an apk, put it back in tab, connect USB to PC, uncheck USB debugging and you should have access to both internal and external sd.
The weird thing is i'm sure i never had to disable USB debug before I could see external contents. In Device Manager under Portable Devices if USB debug is checked my tab shows up as "MTP" and will not show in win exp. If I uncheck it then it shows as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and I can access . Can anyone tell me if this is normal behaviour??? I'm running rooted stock 3.2.1/Win 7. thanks
I had similar problem with no external SD card display when I connected my tablet. Recently, I updated the Android SDK and all of a sudden, my PC displays the external SD card. I am currently using rooted Honeylicious 3.2.1 with the latest recovery RA 3.14

I'll try that, I am running the exact same thing. I have run several roms before going back to stock rooted and I believe the stock rooted was displaying it properly. I can't think of what might have changed on my computer but I will hunt down the android sdk and download it and see if that changes. I have tried several different drivers for the acer with no improvement.
Similar Issue
I have a similar issue. The Music folder doesn't show up, but all the other folders and files are available.
I noticed when I select properties of the sd card in windows explorer it says under file system: Generic Hierarchical. What the hell is that?? Shouldn't it say FAT32?? Also, up on the top or the windows explorer windows when you have details selected under view it has Name, type, size, track number, and artist as the headers. Luckily, I backed up the sd card the other day to my computer so I'm going to take the sd card out and format it and copy everything back and see if that fixes it.
Anybod work out how to fix it I am using stock 3.2.1 and contents of external sd not visable from pc. Internal sd shows contents no problem.
I Think this is a issue due to the original format of the sd card. I to had a similar issue.. I copied everything off the sd card into my pc to back it up.. then put the card into my android phone and formatted it.. Put card back in win7 pc copied files back to card then put it back in the tablet.. CONNECTED usb cable and all is well.. this was months ago. The issue started all at once for me as well. And i do know the card was originally formatted in my pc... This was talked about alot with flashing rom issues as well as not seeing card thru adb..
This is worth a try .. LET me know if it work or not..
Erica Renee.. the BLONDE ANDROID CHIC WATCHING OVER YOU..
no, didn't work for me erica - the weirdest thing is I can see everything fine from my win7 laptop but not on my win7 desktop - until I disable USB Debug then everything is fine??? I think my issue is drivers - i'm loathe to change them tho as it took forever to get ADB working successfully and not too much of a prob to disable USB debug - it would be nice if someone was able to come up with a definitive solution tho
acer uses mtd in order to sync your data. It also allows you the tablet to continue using the internal memory while allowing access to it at the same time. If you are to change it from mtd to a regular drive then the Acer sync will not work and you will lose access to the memory from the tablet while connected to PC.
I believe I read the sdcard slot was only there to allow you to copy items to the tablet. Maybe they changed it with a early update.
When it is in mtd mode the system does not see the memory directly. That is why you do not see fat32. Just Google mtd storage and you will understand.
My Trophy 7 stopped working in Zune a little while back - it just won't install as a recognised device on the computer.
So I decided to get a new phone but I want to keep my files from the Trophy, so I bought an SDHC card reader and took the card out of the phone only to find when I plug it in the SDHC card reader it won't appear on my computer.
The card reader lights up to say there's a card there - just my computer doesn't like it.
The card reader picks up a standard 2GB SD card and it's definitely an SDHC card reader as I checked the packing (providing the packaging isn't lying).
I'd really like to get my files off the card. As far as I'm aware you can't access the files directly when the SDHC card is in the phone, but seeing as it's now in an adapter I don't see why it won't appear on my computer.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can access these files?
P.S. I've tried EaseUS to see if that picks it up too.. It doesn't

You cannot pull files off of the card in this manner. Windows Phone uses a proprietary file system that Windows cannot access. I suggest replacing the card into your Trophy for now, and we can try troubleshooting the Zune connection. I'm assuming the Trophy was otherwise working correctly.
It is most likely your computer that is at fault for it not being recognized in Zune. After reinstalling the card into the Trophy, make sure the phone boots properly. Connect it to your PC and open device manager, and see if the phone is appearing at all, and whether or not it is installing a driver for it. Also, was your Trophy running a custom rom, or was it stock?
If all else fails and we can't get Zune running, you can put the phone on wifi and upload pictures and some files to SkyDrive.
