Hello everyone,
my Name is Fabi and I'm fairly new to Android. My previous Phone had Symbian...
My current phone is of course the HTC Legend...
... it has 2.1 stock on it
... Baseband Version 47.26.35.04U_7.05.35.26L
... Kernel Version 2.6.29-e3993620 [\n] [email protected] #1
... Build Number 1.31.405.5 CL154058 release-keys
... Software Number 1.31.405.5
... Browser Version WebKit 3.1
... it is NOT rooted.
I read a lot in the last few weeks here and know a lot more about Android "Development".
But there are still a few open Questions
If i root a device, it's loosing its warranty. But if i unroot it (like in the new available Guide) again, can they still notice that it has been rooted before?
Do i have to reset/wipe all my Phones data if i unroot my device?
Is there something like BarryAllen so I can switch between roms (I think there is something like that called Rom Manager - but i'm not sure)
Can i receive FOTA's again after i went to the stock Image again (to use the stock FroYo as soon as it is out)
Does the FM Radio work again after i went back to the stock Image again?
Can i create a RomDump of my phone, so i can flash it back whenever i want?
Where can I find a description of Clockwork Mod (what does it do, and how and how to use it,...)
Thank you for reading (and answering) those stupid n00b questions.
I hope you understood my English
Fabi
Edit: I figured out that RUU means Rom Upgrade Utility, but what does WWE mean?

Be sure, you'll be right more often than you think. ROM Manager is indeed the app for managing ROMs.

Yes, it's called a nandroid backup. You need to be rooted to make and restore from them

Right here:
It's an alternative recovery image, and gives you lots of options: creating/restoring backups, flashing new ROMs (it works with ROM manager to make this easy), wiping anything you like and, of course, flashing all the other MODs you're gonna want to mess around with.
How to use it:
Well, if your phone boots properly you can just tap "Reboot into recovery" from ROM manager (also use ROM manager to install clockworkMOD). If your phone doesn't start properly (boot loop) you can still get to it. To quote myself:
Press and hold the volume down button while you press the power button. You'll get to a white screen with little Android dudes at the bottom. Ain't they sweet, riding their little skateboards. Anyhoo, what you see now is the bootloader, the pesky little thing that made rooting so hard. Within this area of your phone you need to use the volume buttons to move up and down in the menu, and the power button to select. So, wait for the list of files to appear and disappear again, click on the "RECOVERY" menu, and wait until you get to the infamous "red-exclamation-mark-in-a-red-warning-triangle-on-top-of-a-picture-of-a-phone-that-looks-nothing-like-the-one-you're-holding-and-just-screams-danger-at-you" screen. When you see this, ignore your instict and don't run for the hills. Just press and hold the volume up key while you press the power button. Ignore the error, and wait until you see a blue menu. Using the volume and power buttons navigate to, and click, "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
BOOM! ClockworkMOD recovery. We're back in business! In these menus you need to use the optical trackball that HTC so kindly provided us, and click on "nandroid".
What's that? Your screen went black? Didn't I just tell you to use the optical trackpad? Use that for clicking too. Kicking youself now, aren't you?

I think that covers it. Have fun!
Thank You very much.

World War Three (replace the E with an 3)...joking. World Wide English is the meaning and it's just saying that the ROM in question is "universal" having English as default language (I hope I've explained correct). You should always want to use a WWE ROM, if you don't want to end up having a localized ROM installed on your phone (Chinese sounds good? )
[joke]
You just said World War 3 because I'm a German - thats unfair... It was the fault of Austrians, in both cases.
[/joke]
Okay, thank you for all your answers.

Hi I bought T-Mobile myTouch 3G. It is a rooted phone already with custom ROM:
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.29.6-SuperS
Mod version: Nexus Super В-blk 1.10.2
Build number: Super В beta
The microphone is very quiet. So the person on the other side of the line can hardly hear me.
Do you think that is a hardware problem or it is probably a software issue and could be fixed if other ROM is installed?
Thank you for your answer. I really need your advice!
Elena
yes this is problem with the rom. You can flash a few audio files on your phone and this can solve ur problem. Do you know how to do that?
Not, really! I will be very thankful to you if you could explain.
I have made some research and made the following instruction for myself. It works well, but it is just the same ROM that I have.
I might need to save other files on my SD card and try them. However I am a little bit scared to download and choose wrong files and brick the phone.
One guy recommended me to try this ROM
( HTC Dream: G1 > G1 Android Development
[ROM] [No-Wipe] HTCClay's FastTest 3.1 RHack Released!)
but he laughed at me and said that I would not manage to do it and I would only brick the phone....
That's why I am scared to try anything else...
go to wipe
wife data - first line
press home to confirm
now wipe davlik
press home to confirm
now wipe ext partition
press home to confirm
press back
go to flash zip from sdcard
DRC83_base_defanged
press home to confirm
flash signed-NexusSuperD-blk11
press home to confirm
when it's done just click on reboot

Do you know how to enter recovery mode?
Yes I know!
power off phone, hold down power and home keys to access recovery mode

I actually reflashed the phone with the same ROM following the instruction. It was successful, but I ended up with the same ROM.
Those files were on the SD card with the phone when I bought it and I figured out that they would work. However this ROM seems to be defective and my microphone is very very quiet. That's why I thought that I might just need to understand how to flash other ROM.
Elena
Ok the issue here is that most roms for the 32B board (mt3g) are those made for g1, so they have g1 audio drivers. And therefore the bad mic volume. You need to install mt3g drivers. So since u seem technically sound to me, can you follow this guide and install adb on your pc?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
Once this is done, you need just 3 commands to get the mic to work.
ayush20m, thank you!

Connect your phone to your computer and see the command list from the link i gave you to see if you have your phone connected properly.
You need this to put the correct audio drivers in your phone.
If you have gtalk can you pm your gmail id, it'll be faster that way
I have just sent you a pm
I am connected using CMD. I know how to use a command line..
Please add me in your user list. Waiting!!
Ant THANKS! I feel more confident with your help.
Just incase it helps..
About the guy "laughing" at you, he's an idiot. You're not gonna brick your phone flashing a rom. Just don't touch your radio and SPL/hboot since you're new to this. Although I would suggest flashing an ENG SPL if the previous owner hasn't already. I don't know what you have since you didn't post fastboot info. I suggest this because you could possibly get into a soft brick if you screw up something bad. Next time, post info this way. Turn off phone, boot up holding back+power. The other info you provided is nice but sometimes we'll need more! =)

Will this work with any custom rom or just super d?
Now due to gingerbread bootloaders, the best way to fix this 3 button problem and not brick your phone, while getting your device gingerbread ready, it to go to this thread.[MOD][BOOTLOADERS] i897 AT&T Gingerbread bootloaders.
So.. How do we know whether we have or not the "3-Button combo" right now?
Would be useful a guide to dump our "Sbl.bin" file to compare the hashes..

Turn off your phone and use the 3 button combos to try to boot into recovery or download mode.
If you cant, then you probably want this fix, otherwise this is of no use
If you can get into recovery using the three button method then you have it. If you can't, you don't.
So one file fixes this issue? But has to be flashes over and over??. This is a strange issue indeed! But glad they have a fix now lol
only time I've had the problem is flashing some of the i9000 roms without a reorient kernel

Did you read the OP?
"You can't lose if you have it and if you enable it with a fix you will have to do so every time you flash back to stock."
I currently have cog 2.1.4 can I just flash this over the top? Or do i need to go back to stock?
IT WORKED!!!! (I'm jsg from IRC)
THANKS desingears!
I've got 2 button + usb working now.
3 button recovery also works now.
Both did NOT work before.
I flashed using stock recovery (not clockwork), because untermensch commented on his thread that clockwork would not work. So I renamed to update.zip and used standard recovery.
Confirmation number: 16T5616861584823S
One question, how common is that roms overwrite the sbl?

Mine works in clockwork
Not common at all, but it will now be a part of all my roms from now on.
Maybe this is a dumb question but does this work with 2.1 and 2.2 roms?
Yes

@DG: Thank you -- It totally works! My phone didn't 3 finger salute before and it does now.
Info about my phone in this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8693181&postcount=129
Now for my newb question: should I do whatever to "brick" my phone, so long as I have a update.zip in /sdcard, the 3 button combo will boot it, yes? Basically, my goal is that if I don't have to worry about this, I won't take my phone back and whine to get another one that does 3 finger. If I'm OK without that, then that's cool. So an answer like "you're fine stfu and enjoy your captivate" or "mmm, man, I can't sleep at night if I had gotten your phone..."
Thanks!
Chris
PS - I made 2 very simple windows batch files for updating via adb and the command line. There's also one which copies everything from /sdcard onto your computer. I also zipped up the 3 files you need to issue adb commands. I tried getting the whole android dev but it doesn't include them.
This is awesome thank you designgears but one quick question. Why do people that don't have the 3bc lose it if they flash back? From the other thread in the vibrant forum it said it flashes to a part of the bootloader which is never touched by flashes or the manufacturer.

All of the one-click odin's have the older sbl tht doesnt play nice with your phone for some reason... if you flash any other rom you are fine.

I ran it through Rom Manager, worked perfect.
EDIT: you mentioned that you will be adding this to the future of all your cognition roms. So I'm assuming I won't need to flash this 3buttoncombozip when Cog2.2beta8 comes out right?

You have to have fastboot unselected before it will work. I'm looking into rooting my wife's mt4g, and that took me forever to figure out.
I have a vibrant, so I'm new around these parts. Still doing my research before taking the plunge.

Please use the term quick boot when referring to the reboot option that does not fully restart the phone.
Use 'fastboot' to refer to the low level utility / protocol that allows image (ROM,etc) flashing via USB

No problem (clicky the thanks button ). I was actually leaning toward this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225. I'm still trying to determine the difference between it and the one you linked. The main purpose will not be really to flash any roms (she likes the stock), but to resolve some minor issues she has w/ her device. For example, her market fc's every time it updates - it's getting old to have to uninstall updates before she can even access the market. So I'm wanting to root so I can use TB to freeze the market updater.

Aha...see this is the stuff I need to learn - I simply used that term b/c it's what was in the reboot option. So it sounds like "fastboot" is the same as Downloading mode on my vibrant, correct? In other words, roms can be flashed via either clockwork or a usb connection to a computer while the device is in fastboot...?
I need to find a tutorial that explains the basics for the mt4g. It's a pretty different animal than my vibrant. I'm creating my own flashable mods for my vibrant, yet I pick up my wife's mt4g and I'm back to square one. Fruustratting!
If you already flashed it, Power Off > Hold Vol Down + Power until booted > Vol Down to recovery and select

I posted this elsewhere but I would like a answer faster.
I like to think I am rather educated in regards to how to root and all that. I just got my replacement Evo today and of course it is updated to 2.3.3. So I can't use unrevoked, but I was hoping to flash over to a older backup I made on 2.2 on my old phone.
Except, when I do the whole hold the volume down + power button and eventually choose recover, all that happens is a image of a phone and a exclamation point appears and it never leaves here.
I know in order for me to be able to use ClockwordMod I need to root the phone, which can't happen on 2.3
So what are my options? How do I flash over my old rom???? Even if it doesnt let me get back to 2.2 its still better than redownloading all my apps.

Well, you have a couple problems here.....if I am not mistaken, your first problem seems to be that your recovery may either be corrupt or not installed. I saw this issue back in my TP2 days. Not with the evo though. If this is a replacement EVO and you cannot properly get to your recovery, then I would suggest contacting sprint on this issue. It should at least go into the stock recovery. As for your rooting issue...you can't do anything untill root is provided for the update.....best of luck to you!

Recently, more people with our cousin Willy the Wilderbee have been roaming about in our forums and I said I would like to investigate further.
So, to be true to my word, I got a second hand one posted over to me and I can now test. First thing's first, though, I fully updated the device before I rooted it with z4root and there was no Gingerbread update. With that being said, I am going to do my best to provide a stable custom Sense ROM for this device so that no one is left behind.
So then, to the first order of business.
How to unlock the bootloader of the HTC Bee and flash Clockworkmod recovery!
1. Proceed to htcdev.
2. Create a login username and password.
3. Go back to the bootloader unlock page and select Wildfire*
4. Now it will tell you to select a RUU. Select the one for your carrier. Make sure it says PD06 beside it, as that is the HTC Bee's bootloader code number.
5. Run the RUU on the device. If it fails or says that you need to update your software first then follow 5a.
5a. With the RUU still running go to: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp (Windows 7) and use the search tab in the top right corner. Search for rom.zip. Copy this to your desktop and close the RUU and the Windows Explorer window. Rename it PD06IMG.zip and copy it to the root of your SD card. Power off the phone fully and then hold down volume down + power until the device boots into the bootloader (white screen). The device will scan the SD card and ask you if you want to perform the update. Use volume up to select yes. Once done, the device will reboot. When it has rebooted, go back to your bootloader and check your hboot version.
6. Check your bootloader version (power off, then volume down + power). If it says "locked" at the top, we are good to go (if your device already said "locked" then you are also good to go).
7. Extract the zip file from here to c:\adb\ (create the folder first).
7a. Delete the PD06IMG.zip from your sdcard if you used it.
8. Go back to htcdev and click continue.
9. Follow htcdev instructions to get unlocked bootloader. Afterwards, leave the fastboot command terminal open.
10. Once unlocked, return to the bootloader. Enter this command into your terminal window: fastboot flash recovery bcwm5.img
This will flash the version 5.0.2.8 of Clockworkmod that I have ported to the device. This is not an official version and has only been tested by me. Do not use the report function!
10a. Push power to go back to bootloader (from fastboot) then wait for the SD card scan to finish. Then scroll down to recovery (volume down) and select it (power button).
11. MAKE A BACKUP! Due to the severe lack of HTC Bee RUUs it is Imperative that you make a full backup of your stock ROM in case things go bad. This is your only way back to stock!
11a. Use the trackball to scroll down (or volume rocker) to backup and click in the trackball (this is select).
11b. Click in the trackball on Backup.
12. Congratulations! You have successfully unlocked your HTC Bee and put Clockworkmod recovery onto it!:good::good::good:
To flash Superuser and root your phone after you have made a backup download this
To do that:
1. Place .zip file onto your SD card.
2. Reboot into recovery.
3. Scroll down to install zip from SD card.
4. Select "choose install zip from SD card".
5. Scroll down to the superuser zip file and select.
6. Confirm installation.
7. Go back to the main menu and select "reboot system now".
Congratulations! You are now rooted.
Recovery controls
Trackball/volume button to move up and down.
Power button to go back/up a menu.
Trackball to select.
Alternative (sometimes the recovery will say back enabled and switch the controls around).
Back is a selectable option.
Power/trackball-in is select.
I have tested all settings for recovery and they all work for me.
Important things to note
This recovery is still considered beta . Any ROMs I release are as well, unless stated otherwise. Use at your own risk.
DO NOT FLASH ANY RADIO FILES WITH THIS RECOVERY! It will BRICK Your phone.
As of 27/10/12 this device has no custom ROMs or flashable mods. DO NOT FLASH BUZZ ITEMS. If you do, it's on your own head!
Ported recoveries are: Clockworkmod version 2.5.0.7 from the htcbuzz (update)
: Clockworkmod version 5.2.0.8 from the htcbuzz (edify)
Updates are coming soon (hopefully! )

Aww thank you No thanks will be releasing a froyo rom tomorrow all going well do you own this device?
yes, I am the owner of HTC Bee and I have six months seeking recovery
Well I shall have a custom cooked froyo rom out for you to try hopefully tomorrow if you like seems like you are the only other person in the world
With the Bee files, u can port every rom here in the dev section. So multiple roms if u know the files to change

Well I tried a "quick port" of cm7 just yo see how it went and the device locked up on the buzz kernel, and had no touch drivers in the bee kernel, but I imagine sense would go fine
Sense can be ported without major problems like u said. For CM we use a different boot.img than the stock one. Unless u know how to edit the boot.img and edit the right files (kernel). It will be al lot easier if u can find the source for the kernel for the Bee. But CM team dont have it. I think it will be very difficult to get CM working on it.
But maybe, maybe the boot.img works. u do have replaced the boot.img from CM for the one from Stock rom?

nah man, as i said i only did aa "quick job" with a kernel paste and libs for the networking. i dont know how to dissassamble a kernel :/ or compile it for that matter
Maybe i can help with the kernel stuff. Dont know everything, but i can build one from source and change the input, so the output.

Please post rom related items in the rom thread and to be honest I can look at it but I don't think there will be anything useful for us. Pm me a download link please.
