There are 3 gold colored connectors on the left side edge of the MT4G. I am wondering if these are for a car dock or something similar. Anyone have any ideas?? See picture below.

It's for a table dock that will be released later. The phone automatically go into the desktop clock mode when put on the dock.

Probably a car dock to since the phone includes Car Home App.
DNA scanner for unlocking the phones. Those three gold circles are needles called "microperforators" the same kind used in hospitals for "ouchless" glucose levels.
They are for yet-to-be released docks that should work well with the "Desk Clock" and "Car Home" apps.

I talked to some t-mobile employees yesterday and I was playing with the live demo when I saw the prong sorta things, they are really small and when I asked about it the lady told me that, in the future, there are going to be docks for this device. Now, my speculation is that these prongs will activate a an app... For instance, a dock for a desk clock wil open up the desk clock application. Maybe this might be the same for a gps dock mount? Maybe
Yeah, it's for docks. I've read elsewhere and people mentioned that, although I'm not sure what other phones there are that also have those dots.
They are contacts for a desk/car dock. It allows easy placement and removal without the need for anything inserting into the micro USB. It will also charge the battery and access media leaving the USB free. Pretty smart.
Oh thats awesome. Thx! =)

I don't think those pins do data transfer, at least the ones on the N1 don't.

Anyone tried putting a magnet next to the back of their Defy?
I have this leather case for an old XDA I used to have, which has a magnet built in to clasp the strap closed.
When I put the defy in, it came up with a multimedia dock interface!
Also, putting the magnet at another point puts it into the car windscreen dock interface.
I looked on the Motorola website for the accessories, but they list the milestone multimedia/windscreen docks under the Defy accessories.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Milestone's usb port is in the wrong place to fit?
Yes, the milestone won't fit. I'm waiting for a desk-stand, too

Problem is, it'll switch into car mode every time you use that...
magnet polarity
Turn the polarity of magnet!
If you put the magnet same place like in the car mount (behind of the menu button), but with reversed polarity. The phone runs the media home instead of car home.
I understand that's how it works.
Thing is, how easy is to to get to the magnet?
Are you likely to end up ruining or breaking the dock whilst trying to remove and reinsert it?
If you don't want the magnet to work, can't you put the phone in upside down? Most of my apps work fine inverted. I realize that puts the usb on top...
I just bought a cheap mount from China on eBay now. No magnet

Just a shame it's not in stock really - I'll keep an eye on it and if I see it's arrived, I might just go for it.

So i bought me a Galaxy Note 10.1 to go into my car and it works out nice.. This is my main headunit/Radio and wanted to let everyone see it..
Sorry it was dark when i finshed so i might upload a daytime video soon..

What'd you do to mount it?
You've got that big of a flat area that you can velcro in your car? Never seen that before. Here's my two car dashboards... I could never do this. I've been thinking about it though and I'd love to be able to mount my Note 10.1, but I'd have to get one of those arm things. Here's the dash of my daily driver, an 09 GTI.

I used velcro to let in lay more flat against the dash.. i have a 7'' double-din but i put a piece of wood in the 7'' opening and cover it in velcro.. so now i can remove it out the car and still use it as a tablet..

Slick stuff guys!Fyi, I had a similar set up, cop got me for it. Apparently, if its above dashboard level or they think it blocks your veiw or distracts you, its a moving violation. So I set it up like a cop car. I happend to talk to a cop later on, he wished HIS was more like mine hehe. Will post a pic in the a.m. when wifey comes home....

Yep, I'm pretty certain that this setup would be illegal in the UK for the same reasons. If you couldn't dismantle it there and then when you got stopped, they might impound the vehicle.
See Section 109 of the Road Traffic Construction and Use Regulations
It can be removed and i also don't ride with the display on and if i do its only to change a song or to use navigation. At night i reduce the brightness so it wont be so noticeable since the screen is so bright..

its tint but you cant tell in the video.. I have a alarm too but i dont leave it in the car unless im going into the store really quick or getting some gas..
Also i added a few new pictures in the OP title.. It doesn't look so big from out side the car..
So it fell out of the car right on the corner and put a nice big shatter/crack across the screen. I would keep using it, but the touch input goes crazy and starts making the tablet go nuts. What are my options at this point?

Yea I've looked at replacement screens, but they are only a little bit cheaper than buying a new N7. So just gonna wait for the note 8 to cone out and get one of those. I was just wondering if there was something I could do with this now worthless tablet that I hadn't thought of. Thanks for the replies guys. Oh and I did have a case, but it wasn't in the case at the time. I had it in a suction cup mount on the rear passenger door so my son could watch a movie and when i went back there it brushed my shoulder and fell out onto the ground.

More and more places are repairing cracked screens. I saw today that radio shack is offering screen repair starting at $69. Someone I know got a screen repaired for $49 at a computer store (I don't know what device). Shop around before writing your N7 off.

Open the back and pull out the digitizer connection as its separate from the LCD connection then u can use a mouse and keyboard.
I want to open my N10 up, but I really don't know how much force to be using to separate the back from the screen (seems like it would require an extreme amount of force).
I have a suction cup attached to the screen, and I have the screw off the back. From there, I assume I would start at a corner and just press it downward to try to get the back off? Should it require a lot of force? Does the back bend, or should it?

Only thing I can find is the PowerMedic teardown, which doesn't explain how much force should be needed still...
I'd rather hear from someone personally how hard it was to open their N10.

Hmm, I'll have to see if I have a separating tool, but that doesn't look like too much force was used at all.
Finally got it open. Was a huge pain to do with a credit card (basically destroyed it mostly), but I started with the top-middle edge, and worked my way around from there. Biggest pain was to get the bottom edge off, but I managed to get that off after a while.
So, I just noticed that my Pogo connection area, there's a pin broken. From left-to-right, it's the 5th pin. Why is this?

Do you mean on the inside of the N10 there is a pin broken? I looked at those powerbook medic photos which its hard to get an angle on that area, but it didnt look like any of the inside pin connections were missing, so are you saying it looks intentionally not connected/separated?

It's like a 3-piece system in the Pogo cable area. The N10 shell has the 5 pin area and has metal contact sheets on the inside for those pins. The N10 itself then has strips of metal I think above metal contact points. The strip of metal that should come in-contact on the N10 itself is cut-short on the 5th pin.
Probably not the best explanation though. I think I saw a post on the Pogo cable thread of someone mentioning this.

I know there was a post about the pogo charger that included pictures, and in the picture one of the pins was either missing or shaded. the discussion assumed it was missing and gave theorys on why. (all perfectly reasonable as I remember.) BUT I just got a pogo in the mail a couple days ago and, at least this vesion, has all its pins. im guessing there is a couple ways the pogo "port" could be utilized, so a variety of combinations would certainly make sense.
but as for that cut short you're talking about, does it look machine done? like if its a ribbon-like material does the notch made in it look perfectly made such that it was done by machine? or does it look jagged or snagged? if it looks machine made Im sure its intentional. if it looked jagged or snagged Id be concerned that is on accident.
EDIT: i ask/say "ribbon like material" but same basic thought process for me re: metal extensoin posts - does the "cut" look like it was done with some sort of grinding device that would leave the pins as "not sharp" or does it look cut like when you flex metal a bunch and it snaps or if you use wire cutters how it leaves a jagged edge.

The cover is really, really annoying. Especially for me, who uses bluetooth through my car speakers for my main music stuff. So each time I get in the car I plug the phone into the 12 volt. And each time, I have to pry open that cover. The worst part is, it doesn't even stay open! I also just got my Incipio dual layer protection case in the mail and now its even harder to get the charging cover off. It's really aggravating. I don't even think it closes correctly either. It always looks like its not snapped down all the way. Just, bleh. Most annoying quirk on the 4 Samsung phones I've owned.
just get the spare battery charge kit so you never have to mess with it. Its also a better means of going from zero to 100 than wireless charger

Yeah I'm not really sure what to do here. I have a bunch of 3D models for phone docks / car docks / etc for the gs3 and gs4, the battery cover is a total nuisance on the gs5, especially because it doesn't really stay open after you open it (I'm trying to imagine how to go about designing a dock for this thing).
I do 3D modeling and have a 3D printer, if anyone has an idea for an improvement... holler. I doubt we'll see any kind of other 3rd party replacement otherwise as it's attached to the phone and clearly involved with waterproofing. not sure if it's worth the trade-off!
anywho guess I'll be giving wireless charging a try again...

Yeah definitely good that it's easy to do that - personally I'm not really upset or frustrated; it's awesome to add waterproofing - I'm just trying to puzzle out the best way to keep the feature while also making the phone easy to slide into a dock (preferably with one hand), you know?
