[Q] Can't download apps from Market - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello XDA,
This question has probably been asked millions of times but after looking for over half an hour and not finding a solution I have to open a new thread.
The problem is that I'm not able to download Android apps from the market all of the sudden. I was able to install apps yesterday but each time I click "Install" the progress bar pops up and I see a notification in the top right corner. The progress bar in the notifications area doesn't fill up and after a while it just dissapears. In the market the progress bar doesn't dissapear but stays empty aswell. From time to time I get the "download unsuccessful" message but most of the time my only option is to "Cancel download".
I am running: darkstone HD2Froyo V3 (26-October-2010)
I've had this problem with one previous build, but I don't remember which one.
Things I've tried:
-Deleting/Signing-out of Google Voice
-I've tried different APN's
-I've tried both with and without Wi-Fi
-I've tried rebooting my phone
-I've tried multiple apps
The weird thing is that everything worked fine yesterday.
I hope someone can help me and I hope I'm not the 134893489th person to open a thread regarding this.

It is the market, not the build. The market has been acting funny lately.
I suddenly have the same problems.

I had the same problems, but after upgrading kernel to hastarin's 7.7 market works again, both 3g/wi-fi.

try creating another google account i guess it helped for me (in the past i had the same problem and tried a lot of things and finally it worked... dont know what exactly was the reason).

Funny, I am having the same issue. Last two days, I have been doing alot of formatting and resintall of Android (froyostone build) and I never had problems downloading from Market.
But now, all of a sudden, I am having problems. I even tried reformatting my SD card and reinstalling froyotstone, but still no luck.

same. started 2 days ago. still going on today. every now and then an app will work but most wont do crap.

Thanks for the quick replies you guys! Guess we'll just have to wait this one out ;-)

unmount sd card and then download and install, it works for me...

any updates on this problem? ive been researching for the past 3 hrs to no avail. i might as well go back to wm without googles apps....
unlike matutemhn, nothing ever worked for me. its hard to believe that there hasnt been a solid answer to this problem given the amount of people here on the boards who use these 3rd party roms. im hoping its a google thing indeed. i dont wanna go back to wm.
i just unmounted my sd card and remounted it...totally froze my device.

In the past I've had this problem, I've solved it by:
-Settings > Applications > Running applications
Force Close market app
Clear cache and data
I can't remember if I rebooted, it's been a while but probably wouldn't hurt. I don't have my phone to hand right at the moment so the process might not be word-for-word perfect.
There doesn't seem to be a reason behind this but i certainly don't think it'll do any harm - at worse you've wasted 30 seconds

i just tried your way kinsago, doesnt work for me. yup i think in the boat of people who have "tried it all" to no avail. cant even sign into talk.

been days now and i still cant download. has this anything to do with having a ported OS on the phone? google detecting that? even that wouldnt make sense since people here are able to download on and off.

wow, i did axactly as you said and it worked!!
just clear the cache and the data and voila!!!!!
i can once more download apps from android market

Hello all,
Installed android for the first time last night and really like it, runs well, except for the inability to download anything from the market. My network connection is fine can browse the web, by wifi and mobile data connection, but every time i try to download anything i get the 'download unsucessful' message. I have tried every solution mentioned above and spent hours googling to no avail!
If anyone has any more suggestions or thoughts it would be appreciated, this thing will drive me crazy shortly!
Cheers
Stuart

grabbed my "old" android folder with mdj froyo sense clean on it and gues what: it works again....

Market Madness????

Hi guys,
Not too sure if this is the correct section to post this, but i'm not too sure what would be the best place..
For the last 3 nights my phone has been doing something very strange...
Without any confirmation from me ALL applications I have ever downloaded from the market are being redownloaded, all at once, and filling up my app memory, im talking like 80 apps..
Even if I delete the apps (one-by-one, anyone who has done it knows its sooo slow), sure enough I wake up the next morning and there are 70+ notifications of apps downloading and they are all there again..
I just don't get why its doing it, and its bl--dy annoying.
I have asked 2 of my friends if they are having this issue and they say they are not.
am I alone, anyone else's phone seem to be possessed by a night ghost?
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
Karl
No, you are not alone!
I, too, had this strange behaviour 3 days ago. My G1 was hibernating, I unlocked the screen and saw the notifications with all the applications I ever installed from the market beeing installed (and some still installing). I uninstalled all from "My Downloads" with the option "I need more space ...", did a hard reset, re-configured the G1, and installed all my "must have" APKs with a file manager (downloaded via market).
And luckily today I only see the file manager which I've installed via the market, and the rest of the "My Downloads" history is gone (what a pity ).
So, I can't tell you why the phone was installing all the software again without my permission, and I also can't tell you how or why the "My Downloads" history is clean now.
thats freaky man, ive only had items randomy start downloading if i went to update it, and it got stuck on downloading and i forgot about it, the next time i turn on my phone ill have 3 or 4 updates downloading at once lol

Can't download anything in market - everything stuck at "Starting Download..."

Can't download anything in market - everything stuck at "Starting Download..."
Okay so recently I have run into a problem where apps won't download from market -- they are just stuck at "Starting download...".
I searched to see if this is a common problem (seems to happen to a good number of people) and I tried the solutions posted. I did factory reset, deleted cached, tried to login via different account, etc. etc. -- none of the solutions work. At best, after a factory reset for cache clear, an app or two will download before this problem occurs again. I have even tried upgrading to 2.2 market but it doesn't help.
Anyone know of any good solutions for this?
Thanks!
Rebooting the phone has always worked for me. It's happened to nearly all Android devices to someone at one point.
How good is your signal? I can't download anything with 2 bars on edge. Which is what I get at home.

Rebooting doesnt help and it is not a signal issue. Altho i was having some connectivity issues last night but my net works just fine now.
you can try canceling, and restarting the download, always works for me
also, downgrade back to 2.1, i heard 2.2 had problems
Clear the download manager and market app cache in settings/application manually. Reboot.

Thanks for all the help guys but nothing is working. I even tried reflashing JFD and upgrading to JI6 but still it doesn't work. It seems the first time I launch Market everything downloads fine but after that nothing works.
Also, a weird thing happens: Market starts downloading all these apps automatically - apps I never told it to download - but all those apps come back as downloaded unsuccessfully.
Someone did this with success and it worked for me too
I have managed to sort this now - here's what I did:
Go into settings - applications - manage applications- scoll down to market & long touch to open. Clear cache AND Uninstall updated. It will ask for confirmation and then uninstall. I then went back to market and Bluetooth file transfer downloaded and installed with no probs. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem.
Have you tried going to Settings>Applications>Manage applications and locate Market then chose Clear Cache and Uninstall Updates.
There is a problem with doing that: I see no market under "Manage Applications"

Thanks but still no-go =(. I even tried clearing data of Market via Titanium Backup and still won't work. Oh well, my replacement phone is coming this week, so may as well wait it out.
Thanks for all the help, everyone.
That sucks man... i have had the same problem as you and got it working with those steps . Hope you have no problems with the replacement.

Select option to show all from manage applications, you can get this by selecting the menu button >> filter and show all while in manage applications screens.
I've run into this with my phone (rooted stock), it's beyond frustrating and I have no idea what I do or might be running that might cause the issue. I was going to do yet another wipe when I found the below info on a google support forum. Nothing I had tried besides the reset would fix my market until I did the following:
Under manage applications, filter show all, then:
Checkin Service- clear data
Download Manager- clear data
Google Apps- clear data
Google Talk Service- clear data
Market- clear cache
I have the same issue. I have tried almost everything. I found a work around. I turn off WiFi and 3g on and it will start on 3g. If that doesn't work I keep 3g on WiFi off and restart fhe downloads, and it allways starts, even group downloads in 2.2.
Not a solution but I can at least get the downloads started.
I might try the post above me and give that a go.

Menu Button > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Menu Button > Filter > (set this to All - it's more than likely set to Third Party right now). Then continue with the instructions given above.

What usually works is going to Menu>Applications>Running Services and then stopping the the Gtalk service. Then reopen the market
this also happens to me sometimes. sometimes it will download but sometimes it won't, it's only saying "starting download" but it it's taking a long time in that status.

[Q] Search not working after new market installation

I did a search through the forum, and looked at the original topic, but didn't seem to find anyone else experiencing this problem.
I am running DJ05, and I downloaded the file called "uber_market.zip" I found on XDA to allow me to upgrade to the new market. I then flashed it in clockwork. I also got rid of the bloatware on my phone by renaming (not deleting) certain applications through Root Explorer. I noticed that when I pressed the the search button in the market nothing happened (didn't pop up the keyboard), nor did it work by pressing the soft key from the home screen, or in the browser. I went back and restored everything I had done one at a time, eventually getting back to the base installation. I then added all the changes back one at a time. The search function worked with every mod until I came to flashing the new version of the market. Has anyone else experienced this, or know a fix? I really like the new market, but it's really hard living without being able to search on anything! lol
Thanks in advance...
Dan
On further review, I think I was mistaken. It looks like it's the new Google Maps update that's causing the problem. I had it set to update automatically and didn't notice the installation at first so it looked like it was the market doing it. Last night I tried re-installing search after the map update completed, but it still wouldn't work, so I started over after setting the map update to manual and the search function worked fine again in the market. If anyone else is experiencing this, let me know! I hope they get this fixed soon!

[Q] Market Installs Stopped Working

Hey guys, I have a NSTG (1.2.1) thats rooted with NookManager, setup Gapps, installed Search Market, etc. Everything was working great after initial setup. I didn't use the Nook for a couple months after that but picked it back up recently and had some problesm: Dropbox would give a fatal error when attempting to sync, apps would not install via Search Market or from a push from the Play store website even though the device did show up on the list.
I was able to resolve some of the issues (Dropbox) when I realized I was being stupid and just had no space on the SD card because it was still formatted for NookManager and repartitioned it but the Market installs still do not work at all. Search Market shows results and I get to the point where I accept permissions and then a notification bubble appears in the status bar of the Nook and immediately disappears. Push from Play store site does nothing. I'd really rather not have to restore from backup/reroot/etc. Anyone seen similar issues? Thanks!
Usually a logcat will tell you exactly what the problem is.
Thanks, I'll post one soon. I'm on vacation right now and only have my MacBook, not sure how to get a logcat at the moment....

I'm having exactly the same issue and it's really annoying. Went to download Opera Mobile and a File Manager today but nothing downloads. If you go to 'My Apps' in the market they show as 'downloading' but nothing is actually happening.
Wonder if our access has been blocked?
I solved this problem, delete market data with titanium.
Thanks will give that a go tonight!

I'm going to sideload Titanium tonight and give this a go. Going to feel really stupid if that's all it is! I'll report back...
EDIT: Okay, I installed Titanium last night and wiped the Market app data, but had no change in behavior. Finding an app through Search Market then attempting to install does the same thing: notification bubble appears in the Nook status bar but then immediately disappears...

S7 Edge Notification Delay and A Lot of Other Problems

Recently I am having notification delays with my S7 Edge G935F. I have read through some posts on this forum and other sources and can't figure it out.
Here are some of the problems:
1. notifications are often delayed for more than thirty minutes
2. if I want to manually check notification when it does not pop up, unlocking the screen does not make the notification show, I have to actually launch the specific app to see the notification
3. It is more than just not showing the notification, when I am using some instant messaging apps (like WeChat), I can't see new messages coming in while the app is running in the front. I have to press the home button and get back to home screen, then re-enter the app, then the messages show up. This happens to many other apps as well.
4. Other things go wrong as well. For example, my Android Auto was set to launch whenever I get into my car and car bluetooth is connected. It is also delayed, by more than hours. It often launches long after I finish my driving and get back home sitting on my couch.
5. Downloading new apps from Play Store has problems as well. It downloads to 100% and just stops there, it does not start installation. I have to use Settings->App to kill Play Store and re-open it to "refresh" it, then it starts to install.
6. After installation of new app, it does not show up on my screen or app draw inside my launcher. I can see the app installed in Play Store. I have to kill launcher and re-open the launcher to make it "refresh" the app list then I can see new app inside the app draw.
I have also tried a lot of ways to fix it:
1. change app to not battery optimized -> didn't fix it
2. update firmware -> didn't fix it
3. factory reset -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
4. flash to a different firmware (official ROM in different regions) -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
5. use third-party ROM (Lineage OS) -> completely fix the problem, but too buggy to use
I can see the general idea of what's going wrong, some events happened (connected to car Bluetooth, new messages coming, app finished downloading, new app installed, etc.) and the system is not responding correctly. I am not very familiar with Android development but I feel like something is wrong with the "event handling" or "event raising" inside Samsung's Android system.
Please post reply if you have any idea or are facing the similar problems.
EDIT:
The phone is on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQER
You've stated that flashing the custom ROM solved the problem, so maybe you should try flashing a different rom that's a bit more stable.
From personal experience i can recommend the SuperStock rom. It's stock (obviously) and it's debloated and very stable with pretty good battery life as far as i remember.
there is some info about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/want-to-root-custom-one-stay-stock-t3631098?styleid=18 (ignore the root part).
Hi,
did you find any solution to this problem ? cause i got the same problem, and i'm going crazy... few months already and can't figure out what is the problem...
the temporary fix i've found is disabling the "google app" in application manager... it fix the problem but i can't use any Google app features (and i like using them...).
I've found few ppl experiencing the same problem searching on internet but no one with a real fix...
if someone more experienced can help debut this it would really mean a lot...
I think it is the battery optimization setting. You may check the settings>battery>advanced settings>optimize apps. You need to keep the apps un-optimized if you want the notifications and sync.
Also, you may check if Sync is on or off.
If these two does not solve, factory reset if you are on stock ROM. If on a custom ROM, you may check a different ROM
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually none of this works... The only thing that "fixes" the issue is disabling the Google app in the application manager... That's why its so weird...
The problem started around July/August 2017 for me...
As i discovered that disabling Google was fixing the problem, i assumed that they'll correct it by updating the app... But only one update of the app was ok, all others would make the problems reappear...
Messing with battery optimization settings doesn't change anything for me... Factory reset as well... The problem comes back as soon as the google app gets updated...
Try clearing cache and deleting data from the Google app the time the problem occurs
already tried... doesn't help at all...
