I've been trying to get Barnicle on my G2 and it doesn't seem to be working. I've run though all the diagnostics and troubleshooting and nothing seems to work.
I was wondering if anyone has found a good way to tether the G2? Please and thank you.

Run a google search for "wireless tether android", click the first link, then click "downloads". I use the pre11 apk with no problem. Assuming your temp rooted. Install with android installer or perfered installer.

Yeah its nice to be able to stream npr and post this at the same time. I'm on edge btw.
I just perm rooted. And I heard about t mobile charging for tethering. Will I still be able to use the 2.0.5 wifi tethering app for root users without getting charged?

Well I use the stock app and T-Mobile says is free (for now). You could use other apps like Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether. You could also use the andorid-wifi-teather app http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/. I like the latter of the two the best.
If you don't use the stock tmo app, you should be fine... we won't know till Nov 14th tho...

ive seen a couple people saying they gotten wifi tether 2.0.5 to work fine (before permroot) but it doesnt seem to work for me (kernel does not support tethering)
How did you guys get it to work? correct me if im wrong but temproot/permroot shouldnt have anything to do with it cus its saying its the kernel... (unless this is the generic error message)
perm rooted, with s off, I just dl 2.0.5 pre13
Works fine...

Has anyone heard/figured out how TMo will be "stopping" tethering (update, account sync file, etc.)?
I will not accept an OTA (won't get one while rooted anyway) and have account sync turned off.

this ones a mystery so far... I just dont think tmo would announce the charge then make the change.... I would guess its already done (key word guess but who knows this change could of been made months ago... before the g2's release)
Anyone see a change yet or figure out how they are going to charge for tethering?

Hey guys,
I previously owned an htc hero and had a fantastic wireless tether app on the phone. I can't seem to find the app in the market and am wondering if i can find it somewhere on xda. I've tried everything i can find on the market but nothing seems to help. Barnacle Legacy tether works but then gives me a NAT error.
Thanks for your help.
You need to be rooted.

Has anyone tried this on froyo? I was hoping we'd finally get infrastructure mode but I still show up as ad hoc to my laptop.

It won't be infrastructure...for it to be infrastructure it has to be configured for it by the author specifically for each device. There are plenty asking for it from Droid X to etc so we are in a long line...just wait for Official Froyo so we can get MobileAP..
So I can't go on websites other than google or tmobile website why is this? Anyone please help me on this
The G2 was working fine yesterday this happened after I woke up idk why I haven't touch the settings on browser and interesting enough it is the same with both dolphin hd and the native browser. Not even the xda website shows

This phone is usless to me if i cannot wifi teather with it. Does ananyone know a way around this?

I'm having the same issue. I've read where Scott's CleanROM has working wifi tether, but I haven't tried it yet. If you give it a go, let me know if it works for you.

Can confirm. Running CleanROM on ATT and it wifi/bluetooth tethering works great.
Can any post a link to this rom?

I used ADB to push the hotspot provision and it worked on my VZW G2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338&page=3 - about half way down he lists all the lines to enter.
(on vzw) I wifi tethered 24/7 with CleanRom until I switched to CM and continue to wifi tether 24/7. No issues whatsoever.

It is awesome, I have not had any problems. It retains all the stock features like knock on without much bloat, which is the only reason I don't switch to CM or AOKP. A++++ Would recommend.

I use TWRP, but you could also install it using Clockwork. You will need to get the carrier-specific ROM for your version of the G2.
