Sync with Google and Facebook Slow and Buggy - Desire HD General

After two days of use I must say that the Sync/update feature is very bad and I think it is one of the main reason for the battery to die quickly.
My phone is always try to sync something, and it is very laggy when in this state. The worst is facebook for HTC that takes 30 min every time to sync only the contacts. And this happen everytime.
Then even gmail sync is painful with my calendar always getting stuck. On my Nexus one those thing were ultra fast, I could not remeber seeing the update circle in the notification area for more than 3 second. Now my phone is constantly in this mode and uses a lot of resources for doing so.
And Yes, I turned all the update time to the maxium possible, like once per day, but it still doing its fu****ng things.
I HATE IT. I disable Facebook sync for contacts, any back fire for doing so?
Anyway I REALLY WANT TO USE THE STOCK ANDROID OVER NASTY SENSE... Is it possible, can I have vannilla back?

Clock slow sometimes

Has anyone had problems with the clock, it sometimes seems to be lagging behind. Any solutions?
Regards
- SKBG
I have... and no solutions as yet except for soft reset.
The lag ranges between 20-30mins...
However, I've noted that the "problem" sometimes happens after I sync with my Mac. But since it happens only "sometimes", its a real pain to troubleshoot.
Yes, I have the problem too. But after a while, the time will automatically sync-up again. It is just pretty annoying.. Some times I got shocked when I look at the time.. haha..
Yep 20-30 min.
There's couple of noted reasons in other posts
- one, could be the ActiveSync
- again this could be due to system clock sync or outlook-exchange sync
- two, could be the Quick-GPS download, not sure of this though
So far only one solution seems to fix it to some extent, i.e. checking the automatically sync time with network in the Phone-settings, have to wait and see. Anyway, it atleast confirms the problem is with the s/w not the h/w
Thanks for the responses
Hi
Started noticing the same problem, sometimes it can be upto 30 minutes behind. Is this a TouchFlo bug displaying the time?
I do have the setting to sync with the phone network set and still doing it.
HTC need to get this fixed
Regards
Phil
I get this myself too, i think its something to do with outlook, becuase usually when i recieve new mail the clock is corrected
are there any apps for WM6.1 that sync your time to the atomic clock servers?
actually dont worry about it, i was reading some other threads on the clock problem and have downloaded gTimeSync, i'll see how it works out
I got that the other day. My watch said 6:01am, my Topaz said 5:45am....But when I looked at 7:30am, they were both the same. In that time, I had not connected it to anything, but I had turned the phone function on at 7am.

Native Email Program Issue

Hi All,
I have been experiencing poor battery life with my N1 - until I stumbled across the issue.
Now I am trying to figure out how to fix the issue.
Basically; I have 3 email accounts setup (1 push to corporate exchange and 2 pop3 accounts).
What I have noticed is that randomly the email accounts will fail to receive emails and when going into the email app the loading circle (or whatever it is called) just spins and spins indefintely. This obviously results in usage of the phone (i.e. not sleeping) and the phone heats up and battery goes down v.quickly.
Now, I know I have sufficient network coverage as I am able to surf and use other network required programs - so it does not appear to be due to not being able to get a data connection.
Has anyone come across this issue before?
yeah I have this issue too... its pretty annoying.
Ok thats comforting...sort of. Atleast it is not specific to me then. Sounds like a bug?
What do you do about it?
i have a similar issue...my pop mail...just wont receive email...it looks, and stops...but no email...its not draining my batt btw
Slightly different in that mine looks and looks and looks and just keeps doing so - until it has drained by battery as best it can. Most of the time I have realised as the phone gets hot due to not sleeping. So I can kill it off.
Quite annoying however. As email is fundamental program with these types of phones.
Is there somewhere on Googles site where we I can inform them of this issue?

EVO 4G continously downloading Facebook photos - possibly from Friendstream

So my wife and I both have Sprint's latest EVO 4G, and like many other people, we are experiencing battery issues.
I set my phone to use my WiFi network at home, and on my router administration, I can see every HTTP request that is made. What I am seeing is that there are continuous requests for Facebook profile photos, and it requests the same file repeatedly anywhere between 10 to 60 times in a row.
I'm sure this is what's draining the battery very quickly. I even have our phones to sync anywhere between every 2 hours to every 8 hours, but it's still doing it.
I read around and saw that some people are removing the Friendstream widget, so I gave that a try, but that didn't seem to help.
Next step, I turned off Sync Contacts for Facebook for HTC Sense, and sure enough, the requests have stopped.
I will have to test this out a little bit longer to confirm that this is indeed the cause, but so far, I think that's a big culprit to our short battery lives.
Can anyone confirm that they have experienced the same?
I've put up a screen-shot as well:
http://www.makotosan.com/files/Facebook-HTTP-requests.png
I noticed that my EVO was doing something similar when logcatting (and I don't use the Sense Launcher or widgets). Will definitely do a battery test w/ contact sync on/off to see how it effects things when I get a chance. I average about 6%/hr battery drain currently...
Just realized that I forgot to update the subject line. I originally thought it was Friendstream while writing this post, but have determined that it's not.
I started a seperate thread about how the 'People" widget was really causing battery drains on my Evo. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6898378 ) I used it for my quick contacts, but I always noticed that it would update the pictures from facebook/have status messages updated..
So I betcha it's the people widget..

I read your post on this and decided to give it a try and remove the people widget, but that didn't stop the continuous HTTP connection that the phone had open.
I was able to finally narrow it down to the Facebook contacts sync.
My wife was driving around town for just a couple of hours the other day and her phone had died after a fresh charge within that time.
The other day, she went to the doctor's and was playing on the phone for about an hour to pass the time. Along with her normal use of the phone, it made it to 38% by the end of the day. This is after I had turned of the Facebook contacts sync.
I think the developers of the Facebook book need to investigate this issue.
I set facebook to only update once a day, and disabled the live feed sync. I like the contact sync; it's useful for new numbers, birthdays and caller id pictures.
yes, i have the same problem too, had to disable it kuz i would have to kill the "people" process too
I have over 300 of my phone's contacts synced to facebook.. and my battery would drop half way in a matter of an hour..
ive posted about this numerous times in the data usage thread, being that this had costed me about 13 gigs (being all the links to facebook)
It happened to me too. It was causing reboots and killed my battery from a full charge to 10% in less than 4 hours while just sitting there. It also made my awake time and up time exactly the same. I identified this problem by looking at my processes in os monitor. The people process was at 30% cpu constantly. It was actually making my device hot to the touch.
You don't need to remove the people widget, just turn off auto facebook contacts syncing like the op said. Now I just manually update my contacts every once in a while.
I tried this and have definately noticed an increase in battery life. To me the contact syncing is pretty much useless except for the the contact pictures so this isn't much of a trade off. Would definately rather have the extra battery life. I don't have 300+ contacts syncing with facebook so it's not as huge as some, but it *is* a noticeable difference.
Yes! This is all but confirmed in a few threads on androidforums and now here. It seems to be some kind of glitch in the contact syncing. Basically turn off the automatic syncing and maybe do a manual sync once in a while to pull new contact photos, etc.

Is this a possible sync solution??

Hey guys,
Let me preface this by saying that I can't DEFINITIVELY confirm this as a fix but it seems to have worked for me and my wife. There could be other factors that I'm not thinking of though. But essentially, the idea is that you turn off T-Mo syncing when both background data AND auto-sync are on. I think this causes the phone to actually "register" the T-Mo getting turned off, rather than still operating underneath your OFF controls. Then you turn back off the sync settings.
- In Accounts and Sync, check ON Background data and Auto-sync, if they're not on.
- Go into T-Mobile and UNCHECK Sync Contacts
- Go back to and UNCHECK Auto-sync.
If you now look at the T-Mo settings, there will no longer be a check box OR a sync icon and while the icons themselves probably have nothing to do with it, it would appear that the phone is no longer even offering the OPTION to sync T-Mobile. Again, I can't say this is a definitive fix for the problem, but since doing this, I haven't seen the syncing icon. And since doing this to my wife's phone, hers has gone from syncing all the time to not at all. And needless to say, battery life has improved.
I'd love to see if it DOESN'T work for someone. Just so that we can rule this out if it's not really a solution.
Thanks guys.
I say this works has worked for me and greatly improved my battery.

T-Mo just needs to get rid of this software when 2.2 is ready. There is absolutely zero reason for it to be there when google does this much better and it's built into the OS. They are killing their customers. My wife is furious about her contact issues.
This is actually the first time I've read about the syncing issue, though I have noticed it. Out of curiosity though, I'm assuming that by disabling the general Auto-Sync setting that things like Facebook, Twitter and Pure Messenger aren't going to update unless I do so manually, right?

If you turn off auto sync, everything needs to be manually updated. I noticed a HUGE jump in battery life from disabling auto-sync. I just turned it back on, but turned off auto-sync for everything except gmail and weather. I'll see where this leaves me.
I just got my new slide and I like it execpt the keyboard it weird compared to my old g1 & sense kinda bugs me. I had trouble w/ all the syncing killing my battery but after this I see a great increase in battery life.

I have Background data still checked and Auto sync. But i disabled News Stock and Tmobile. And left Facebook Gmail and Weather. Well see where that leaves me with battery

EMail app at 100% CPU load

I had a problem with the stock EMail app.
It stuck at 100% CPU load, the phones back was hot and the battery lost ~70% in half an hour.
I can't understand how this could happen, the app is set to check both my EMail accounts every hour and there has been nothing out of the ordinary (no big attachements or so on).
Anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Should I use a 3rd party app for EMails?
the same problem

It happened to me three days ago Using OS Monitor, I only showed 34% usage, but this time, Android System Monitor acknowledged 100% usage, but was unable to account for where it was being used. where did you see it stucks at 100 % , it sometimes shows wrong , ;
you can also check ur email mobile or 3rd party app or reboot ur device you can also fallow these steps , maybe it helps you.
go into "Settings...Voice input and output", and, if the Eyes Free TTS engine available, the default TTS is not set and check the box to have the native TTS as the default, and checked the box for "Always use my settings".
I saw it in the Samsung Task Manager. I think it showed correct because also the phone's back became very hot.
But, fortunately, this never happened again until now. The battery life is terrible after all, but the EMail app seems to be fine
I have a similar problem if I'm not using the standard Samsung keyboard.
It's a bit of a pain in the arse as I have to remember to swap keyboards if I decide I need to reply to something. If I forget the phone locks up and the battery drains very quickly.
I've seen other posts with same problem. Wouldn't be so awkward if the standard keyboard wasn't so useless.
I binned the stock samsung email app, and use the 2.3.4 vanilla email app
I'm having major problems with the Mail app too - consistently high CPU usage, short battery life, back of phone warm to touch and Mail showing as the top battery hog (& CPU hog in Watchdog). Not impressed!
High CPU usage and email app gets stuck
I have the same issue. When I am in the email app it just gets stuck. This is crazy. I switched out from a HTC EVO 4g to Samsung Galaxy so I could have more ROM. I hope I don't regret it. Tell me if you find a solution.
I had the same issue on my SGS II and now my Note. I finally figured out it started after I installed Viber. I uninstalled Viber and the issue went away.
Does anyone else with this issue have Viber installed?
I had this problem only once yesterday - picked up my phone to answer a call and it was very hot. I can't think it was a co-incidence that earlier that day I had enabled Contacts sync with Exchange. Whatever the issue was it has gone away by itself. The only other factor worth mentioning is I was in a supermarket with Free WiFi - but it only works after you click through their homepage. Previously I seen this cause background apps using data to constantly stall due to the HTTP redirect they encounter.
