I'm willing to pay $25 to $30 for someone to port over the MIUI ROM over to the Droid X. I'd pay more if I could buy maybe others will chip in?
I can pay half up front but only if you're a well known developer with some reputation behind you. Let me know!

I would be interested in checking this out if it is ever done.

definitely would love some MIUI on the DX
I'll bite, what is MIUI, and if its a ROM then hell yes I would be happy to put cash down.
miui rom
unfortunately this rom requires a custom kernel to run meaning the droid x boot loader would need to be cracked

A unlocked bootloader allows a custom kernel, in which we can use to make and compile very custom roms. For example, true AOSP, MIUI, and Cyanogenmod need a custom kernel to run.

Do you know how many hours that would take? Would take a lot more to get a well know developer to do that for 25 or 30 bucks

There are many ways to get around that issue. I looked at it and I think it can be done but I would need about another 48 hours in a day to even think about doing it
I can't believe no developers have made one yet. Am i missing something?

Maybe you should see if people are willing to donate toward getting you a DX to develop it on. I've seen that work in the past. I was under the impression MIUI wouldn't really work with a locked bootloader, though.
well the milestone has a locked bootloader much like us and they have MIUI support
by the way here is the english forum site for MIUI www.miui-dev.com I think we need to be heard over there!!

If you ignore the horrible music, this rom looks pretty flippin sweet! I would definitely give it a try
Agreed. I know that at our current state(likely forever) we will not be able to truly mod the kernel as far as I know. I've spent the last 6 months in the DInc and fascinate forums(reason for not being sure) but currently the milestone does have MIUI support and I'm sure, that with the right developer we could to. There would be some things in the MIUI rom we would lose due to this, but would still be worth it as it is a truly great rom with a solid skin on top of it. Its lightweight, and it will fly. I would gladly pay for this as well. I can compile kernels and what not, and prolly throw a ROM together but porting the MIUI to a phone with a locked bootloader that does not, by design allow unsigned zips, I cannot do. I know we can flash zips in clockwork but the way I understand it, ALL of the ROMS available for the DX, are based off the stock kernel for sure, and likely the framework(this is where my knowledge or lack there of for the DX hurts) and are still somehow tied into blur. I could be wrong. Don't quote me on any specifics about the X, I just came back to it because it offers superior to the dinc by far, and still somewhat better than the fascinate. Again the difficult part of this would be thatbthe MIUI rom is a COMPLETE rebuild of android. I loved it on my dinc. I would pay $100 to have it ported SUCCESSFULLY. As I just got married and don't have time to learn a new phone.

Also, I saw the comment that the milestone has the locked BL, much like us. Your close. Its exactly like us. I don't know about encryption keys but wouldn't be surprised if it was the exact same key. Just saying. I don't know enough about this phone and the bootloader. But it sucks we got stuck with this. I would like to see the dx's full overclock potential. Not just the way we are doing it now. I think we are using modules. And that's not the same as compiling a built from source overclock compatible kernel .

If you run the ADW launcher over MIUI, it is pretty awesome... I don't like the IOS look either, but the ROM itself is VERY slick.

I was looking through the lists of roms for the droid 2 and I saw that all the roms are either stock or blur or half blur.... I was wondering if it would even be possible to port the MIUI rom over to the droid 2. It is made for the incredible, nexus 1, original droid, evo, and a few other big name phones and I was thinking we should port it over to the droid 2.
I know there are going to be a bunch of complications but I still don't really understand why a bunch of these roms don't work yet for the droid 2 and what is involved in porting them over...
thanks a lot,

I came from the Original Droid and the Dev community was HUGE! I would practially have a new ROM every week and I could switch so easily with Rom Manager. I loved it, the D2 just seems too hard to root, I've had to do so many sbf restores, I miss my old OG Droid.

Sorry I should have rephrased myself. Rooting is terribly easy compared to the old way on the OG droid. But I meant installing roms is such a pain on the D2
I am another former Eris user. There were a TON of really great ROMs on that phone. I said it before, I'll say it again: I knew eFuse would mean a diminished number of ROMs and a smaller dev community but I was honestly astonished at how small it is. I'm hoping the Matt churns out his Unleashed 3 here real soon as that would be the perfect basis for a kitchen. Having a good, solid kitchen would be all that we'd need to see some more good, non-Blur ROMs pop up.

You can thank Moto for locking the bootlader and making us jump through hoops and using work arounds to get what we want out of our devices. If we had an unlocked bootloader then we could just install a new kernel but I assume new devices will have similar securities on them so at least from moto get used to working around until someone on the inside slips the keys.
Just made the jump to the Droid X and wondering if custom Roms are available or if I chose a lemon that's been passed by. PPCG have about 1000 posts for the phone itself. Looks like Moto phones wont work on HTC roms and such. I'm pretty lost on the issue as I've spent years on winmo and never had to worry about custom roms. now I am. What's the status of the Droid X for development and life? Is it gone already and I should get a refund?
It's all here.

Rubix 1.9.5 is pretty good. GummyJar 2.5 is great. And Liberty 1.0 which is more of an extension of GummyJar is by far the best.
Hey armus, I'm new to the Droid X also but it looks like there is plenty of development going on. I'm using the liberty rom (you can find it in the development section) its only on version 1.0 but its running flawlessly on my phone. You will need to download the Droid x bootstrapped from the marketplace (I think it was 1.50) but its worth it. I was using gummyJAR until liberty came out just a few days ago.

There is usually a good amount of development done for this phone. When it came out the bootloader was looked at as a obstacle that couldn't be overcome....we now have root, themes, custom ROM's and overclocking... Pretty much everything people look for when they want to mod... only thing we are missing is custom kernels (CMod) which would be awesome... but not a deal breaker. Aliasxerog on twitter is working on developing a new init.. So hope for the bootloader hasn't been given up either.
The best ones in my opinion are fission and liberty. Hey both have an app that allows for many easy customization options

Not even that close. Yet.
I actually came over from the Samsung Captivate. I do miss the wonders of custom kernels, but frankly, Liberty gives me everything I want from my X, so I've come to realize the locked bootloader is not a big deal. If they crack it, great. If not, I'm sure the devs will keep cranking out amazing tweaks. You can also find some good info on X ROM's over at droidforums.net. Good community here. I don't regret my switch to the X one bit.
Why haven't you guys got a CM7 port yet? I don't own a DX, but I got a cousin and I put that new GB rom on his DX a couple days ago. Anyways...have none of you heard of 2nd init? The Defy and..a couple other phones..have this boot menu made for them. One of the features in it it 2nd init. It has enabled full Cyanogen 7 Android 2.3.4 on it, and MIUI.
Cyanogen mod on the Defy is here and the 2nd init bootmenu is here. Porting of this shouldn't be that hard. Little changes to the scripts I would guess. I would look into it if you are wanting Cyanogen, MIUI, or any other roms that you can't flash without having an unlocked bootloader, or 2nd init.
To learn more about 2nd init, go here
Hmmm if I knew how to go about this I would definitely try it out. @aliasxerog on twitter has tried something like this before. Could you get in contact with him and see what he could do with this? Thank you for posting this and I really hope something could be done with this
I wish there were a cyanogen mod for the X, my son's cyanogen modded Optimus runs a Linpack (MFLOPS) score twice mine and he's got an ARM11 processor! at 800 MHz.
I also like the menu/screen better.

I don't disagree that in general what Cyanogen does is bring only the Google part of Android over and it shouldn't be that hard...but it seems to be.
Most of the ROMs out here do work 85% or more, but they are all a little buggy, camera doesn't work right or WiFi doesn't work or no GPS or phone reboots or can't shut off or SOMETHING....I know it's just a patch, but often it's a patch that never gets addressed. Cyanogen seems to address all of the issues - no hate on those building ROM's, but Cyanogen finishes the job. It may not be the best build with the most bling, but it's mostly raw Google with no bloat.
After removing the bloatware and giving the user a generic Android experience, the processor has more juice for other applications. Example, my sons Optimus runs 8.5 MFLOPS stock @ 600 MHz, the processor is an ARM11 processor which is actually built to 800 MHz so he upped the clock to 800 MHz and loaded cyanogen and he now has >30 MFLOPS...on an older CPU than my Droid X that only gives me 13.5 MFLOPS.
So while I agree in theory that Cyanogen isn't magic, I agree with the original poster that Cyanogen does a complete job and is worth getting.

1st.) Koush didn't make cynogen. Cynogen did. Koush made clockworkmod recovery
2nd.) To my knowledge, you are a relatively new developer. Cynogen has written a large amount of code in every aosp rom. If his rom sucks, why don't you compare download amounts?
I think maybe the great developers already moved on to a new phone? :/ Who knows.

What was the last ROM you made that was community maintained and supported 20+ devices? It's pretty special in that regard!
Pain-in-the-ass bootloader. I'm not surprised in the least. He works on putting his ROM onto way too many different devices to spend an inordinate amount of time on one device, with how fast new phones come out nowadays. It makes sense that Cyanogen never came to the DX.
I honestly think a CM7 could be in the works - but they're waiting on a final GB release.

well your best bet to learn about them... is to read about them. every ROM has a huge list of features and screenshots. do the homework and make your choice that way.
This thread I believe has all but one of the ROMs available for the Atrix listed in it if you scroll down, it's near the bottom, then you can go through each thread, look at screen shots, requirements to flash, etc. When I was trying to decide which ROM to flash first I used this thread as a guide, kept it open in one tab and opened the threads for each individual ROM in another tab.

I agree that Alien is a great ROM (I'm using it), but it's not a Vanilla ROM as the OP has asked for, and it's not as de-blurred as, say, Ninja or something. I dunno how usable Ninja is now, as Sam had to temporarily leave it for CM work...
@OP, you could surely flash the CM7 pre-beta, as it's quite stable. The only major thing that doesn't work as of now is the Camera, I believe...
You have an HTC Evo Shift? You rooted it and put a custom OS on it?
Awesome.
First timer right her who wants to ask your preference, the only thing I have to have is the ability to tunnel my internet to project a free hotspot. That is available in CM7, so far I am leaning towards a nightly build... But essentially since I have not done this before, I don't know the best, I'm sure no one knows the "best"...BUT I would very much like to know your favorite considering that is my main concern

I really like Sense Roms, especially sense 3.0. I was rocking a stock, rooted rom, but got tired of HTC dragging their feet releasing the source code for the Shift. I flashed CM 7.1 stable, with Scary Ghoul 3 kernel, running at 1.5 gHz. But, if HTC already had source code for the gingerbread release, I'd still be on a sense rom.
Created a whole thread about this. Here you go.

If you like Sense then it's gotta be Supreme Sense. Real nice ROM with lots of bells and whistles and a very nice camera app.
Me personally, I prefer CM7. I want raw performance and the maximum amount of customizability and CM7 offers all that more than any other ROM.

Which is not what I'm looking for, I happened to say I was looking into CM7, but would be open to another OperatingSystem all together. CM7 does good work, but honestly they are the only ones I know about. So I would be narrowminded to assume the only one I know about would be the best choice. Since alot of people on this forum have done alot to their phones their input on a recommended OS will be followed.
Well I'm sure you know it depends on your usage, and preferences. I'm a Sense kind of guy. If your looking for a sort of stock Rom with a lot of extras that's quick, than MikShifted G v1.75 is a great choice. Stable, Reliable, and Fast. If your looking for something a little more over the top that's still stable, reliable, and fast. Than Supreme Sense is it, eye candy plus.
