RHODIUM & TOPAZ got a "themes, applications and software" SUBFORUM & we don't ???
Just noticed today:
Rhodium and Topaz phones HAVE A "THEMES, APPS AND SOFTWARE " SUBFORUM !!!
How is it that we don't have one ??
We have A LOT of content here, and these phones subforums have only a couple threads but they ALREADY HAVE IT !!
We NEED to sparate general questions and discussion from apps / skins / themes: this subforum has become cluttered, the Xperia is a big bang and the ammount of new threads/posts is drawning the real rich content

i have also asked for this on the about-XDA section to add a section for panels and nothing has happened. The community of users are here but if there is no support from the mods and admins then there will be other forums which will be more adaptable to change!
If I've got it right there isn't any mod that can add or remove a complete topic, this can only be done by an admin.
Anyhow, judging by the time it took to get a section for the Iolite asking for new topics can take a loooooooooooong time (admins are busy???)

We don't need a seperate section for panels. There has only been like 3 custom made (or adjusted) panels by users, why dedicate an entire section to it, while one thread wouldn't even get filled.
A seperate themes and modifications section would be awesome though!

I spent myself a lot of time searching the general Forums for some SPB Mobile Shell Panel Skins. An own "Panels, Themes, and Modifications" Subforum would be great.
A few sticky tutorials how to create Skins and co would give it the final touch .

well if you ask me its defo more dev related then anything else, cos only dev's would know how to do it, But yeah moving it can understand i guess, But closing it without any type of message is just plain ridiculous.

they moved a lot of stuff so i might have been an accident. try pm'ing a mod.
I'm not sure how long you've been on xda for, but in my experience it is common for requests (even development requests) to be moved to general. They usually want only actual development in the development subforum out of consideration for developers and users alike. it can be a bit trying to wade through all the ot discussion.

Asking a question about a feature for possible development is not development, its a general question and should go in the General/Q&A section. Pretty much everything should go under General, unless you have some source or compiled ROM or Kernel to contribute.

I'm not a Mod obviously but spending a lot of time in the N1 Dev section you get a sense of what is and is not acceptable and how well it is tolerated.

I think we all understand why it was moved but I don't see any reason as to why it was closed, there are a lot of locked or closed threads that don't seem like they should be, it could be that there is a thread closing happy Mod, or they are getting locked or closed by mistake.

And yes we seriously do, I would also LOVE it if anyone could do any of these following things to...
1) Camera stabilization that actually works
2) 2 stage camera button using the track pad (push/release)
3) App that allows 360 rotation on all apps that allow rotation.
4) Decent Panoramic camera app (like the Omnia on-screen Stitching)
5) Decent burst mode that works well and can choose how many shots it takes and time in between shots.
With those and with the rotation hack/app, i would be such a happy camper...
Come on dev's anyone know if if this is possible, if it is i'm willing to donate for sure

Is it me or is that just rude and a bad way to run a forums?
I really don't want to start any trouble, but I would love to know why my post was closed, So I don't make the same mistake in the future, plus its just common courtesy.

I thought I posted this before but I think the whole raid controller thing happened and it got erased so I'll ask again. I asked in the Q&A section and was told to ask here so here it is. I was wondering if there is any way possible to port the Droid X rom over to our HD2? I absolutely love a lot of features in that rom including the gallery and the scrollable widgets. I have the Droid X dump, just have no idea what to do with it. I figure the screen resolution should be just about perfect for our phones too as the screen size is almost the same. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Thanks for the help, I asked in the Q and A section they told me to ask here, I searched the android development forum before posting it again but didn't see the other one I did and thought it might have gotten deleted when the raid controller problem was going on and I never got to see if anyone replied before that. It's cool, people on XDA can get pretty snippy sometimes. If you notice, A LOT of people are posting non "development" type stuff in the "development" subforum, like random questions about screen freezes and stuff.
This subforum is for kernels, ROMs, builds, and stuff. Questions like this would be posted in the "Android on HD2 General" subforum.
I would also like to see a Droid X ROM, but don't know how to port a raw dump to a stable HD2 ROM, what I would do is upload the dump and link it in a thread, and then maybe some developer looking for a challenge will take on the task.

first Id like to say I really like how you handled this.
Secondly isnt the droid x software just motoblur? if so then there did motoblur roms a while back for the g1 which we called esspresso.
maybe one of those roms can be ported even though it isnt froyo.

Well you have a point, but I think they may have incorporated a "newer" version of motoblur that takes advantage of the more features of the phone, and maybe more widgets. I wouldn't know exactly though. And honestly at this point you gotta do Froyo if you're going to cook an HD2 rom.
I don't know a lot about the Droid X to be honest (although I use that NFL app that was ported on my MIUI rom on my HD2).

I just want to learn, I am pretty good with coding certain things like any web language and some linux/unix stuff but I don't know if I'm advanced enough to take on a task like this. I can however design anything anyone could need. If I can help in anyway with anything I would love to. Yeah no problem dude, you should edit your orginal post and put the download link in the main post just so any other developer could see it and possibly rename the post to "Droid X Dump" it could be helpful.

Ive tried porting it. I have compiled the ext2 file and booted it, but it is simply starting the white HTC screen then restarting.
If sombody could provide the orgional system.img file I will try from that instead!
Im not sure how to get the original system.img file. If you can instruct me how to get it I will and hopefully that will work. Thank you

Judging by the title, you're asking because it appears to be HTC Sense UI. It unfortunately is not. It's just a "theme". You can tell by the lockscreen and the system info screen he calls up. It's Froyo build DJ29 (which is one of the Froyo build leaks on this forum). You can however achieve this look even on a stock Epic. The weather clock and some of the toggle widgets (vibrate, wifi, etc) are Beautiful Widgets from the market. The dock and calendar widget are part of LauncherPro, also from the market. Both apps have themes you can download that emulate that HTC Sense UI look. The live wallpaper is Nexus Revamped (you guessed it, from the market). Have fun with your new Epic!

Isn't this the section General for his phone relating to the Samsung Epic 4g?

Yes. You can install the launcher pro app and the beautiful widgets app and theme them. They do not require root to install/customize.

Hey guys, I've been observing the X8 Dev section and what i've observed is that there are many "developers" releasing their "roms", faster than Kim Kardashian's divorce D trust me, THAT was really fast TBH)...and from what I see, things are getting very ugly between know-it-all senior members and wannabe developers...the former accusing the latter that he/she merely themed a MiniCM rom and the latter defending their work, based on the fact that soft-modding is not a crime on xda, so as long as they're free of warez and proper credits are given...
I want your opinions and thoughts on the subject; Should a Soft-Modding Section be opened for these junior/begginer/wannabe developers ?
I for one feel that it should. Soft-modding is the 1st step in learning how to develop. No one should be punushed or banned for doing so...however, I also agree that the DEV forums shouldn't be cluttered with these modded roms... Even I am sick and tired of opening a new thread and reading past the 1st paragraph, saying something like "Hi, this is my first rom on XDA ! I hope you guys like it ! My work is based on nAa's MiniCM 2.2.0, with a few "tweaks" to it"...and what makes me even more sick is the amount of negative responses from senior members whom I thought had more ethics and manners...and what DO i always see happening to these threads ? A lock icon on the top right corner (I use tapatalk app )...So I want to know, what do you think ?

Yes thats exactly what im proposing....soft modding is not considered DEVELOPING but neither is it as lowly as to be considered THEMING either...i have tried these modded roms...some are merely themed but some are actually better than the originals

we only have a few base roms and tons of soft modded roms
I agree with having a separate section.Soft modding is not against the forum rules, while endless flame wars and spamming is. If people want to have it clear on whether a rom is original or tweaked, the best solution is a separate section.

They edit framework-res and system UI
AND thats what themers do.
People should post in themes and apps section.
BUT members want to be "recognized developers" so they post in dev secion(i can understand you guyz)

I would like to say yes but I think its not necessary.I mean,me like what these guy doing & me appreciated Them but thats not the way should be.
1.If somebody can fix some bugs or can make a rom better performance why not just cooperate with DEV so their can solved in their next update.
However, there always a few exceptional like:
a)Dev had enough, others can continued exp-what B.Jay do for GDX
b)Make a rom for difference kernel exp-What Devstaf did for ICS stock
2.If somebody can make a rom more beautiful there are 2 options they can post in Theme sec.
a)make a flashable zip exp-what Bakabon19 do for Athojan SDE rom
b)make a CWM/Xrecovery backup-not yet in here but many Chinese forum already practicing it.
So if everybody play theirs role,the add sec need no more.

I get why some of you want soft modding is banned...but the fact remains that it isnt illegal to soft mod and share on xda...hope none of you hate me for my replies...im basically sitting on the fence with this...i'll debate with all of you...as for those who agree that soft modding is ok, im asking you, why do you want to see the same thing over & over & over with just a new face ???
