Alot of problems recently - Streak 5 General

So, I have a Dell Streak on 2.1 O2 and for about a week now my Watchdog started reporting the following over the 30% threshold: Package Checker (this is always the first one to show up), Bluetooth Share (always pops out at startup), Settings. This usually happens only after 2-3 days of uptime. Also this is not the biggest problem. When this all starts happening I am unable to download/upgrade apps in the market. Also I have noticed that when I try to use the market the HSDPA icon pops up even thought I only connect using Wi-Fi. I have tried all the fixes suggested on another topics. Nothing works. My market also did not upgrade (as in I still have to download each upgrade manually.
I desperately need help.
Thanks in advance.

I would do a factory reset if no good bell the dell

One thing I know is that the WI-FI icon takes over 3G or HSDPA or Edge icons. when you are on Wifi the ONLY connection ICON you should have is Wifi, if you have both it's gonna show errors. make sure you are connecting to the right access point and password is correct, usually my streak when I had 2.1 it took some time to pop up the Wifi icon on the top bar, sometimes I even had to go to settings pull the wifi settings wait 1 or 2 seconds or wait untill you see that wifi connection has been established.

My phone is connected to the right AP and with the right password. Also I think I will factory reset but I'd like some other advice before that.

Wi-Fi Won't Turn On most of the time

My HTC HD has WIFI Problem: WiFi will not turn on most of the time.
After tapping the Wi-Fi Switch (in Communications Tab) it hangs for about 7 seconds then stops.
Sometimes after 6 seconds the wifi Icon will appear for 1/2 a second but then disappears.
The only way I can get it to connect at all is if the device is cool and I remove the battery for a while....
...Then restart it and Wi-Fi will switch on sometimes (but fail most of the time).
I have flashed the ROM (by different Cookers) many times, Hard Reset the device many times, and used all different power settings: Still no good.
If error reporting is ON I get error message "device.exe' problem.
As I live in Australia I would have to pay heaps for freight if I send it back to UK so I'm loath to do so.
Anybody know what should I do to fix it?
(PS. My old Diamond connects every time)
I have a similar WiFi connectivity problem, but after reading of the poor service provided by most vendors and HTC itself, I will try to gather some more experience with the problem before I contact HTC or my vendor, and hopefully find a solution. Bellow is my experience so far:
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
What I found out is that If you are using CommManager in TF3D together with other wifi mgr it screws up the wifi. Either you use CommManager or you use 3rd party one but not both at the same time.
Agreed!
Yes I agree completely; something on the permanent storage area got corrupted last week after I installed WiFi Monster (which I like, and recommend, only not at the same time as the standard connection manager).
I managed to get the WiFi conection working again (if only for a couple of days...) by doing the Start>Settings>Clear Storage thing and following the re-install.
Ok, so at least now I know of one more thing that can screw up th HD's WiFi besides itself!
i cant connect to my wifi in my same bedroom !!!
Enhancing WiFi performance
If you get very low range, or frequent connection interruptions, it might help to go to: Settings>Connections>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Power Mode and set it to "Best Performance"
PS. I wonder if anybody gets intermittent WiFi problems like myself. One day it works perfectly, the next it will not connect showing a dialog box: "Warning Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again"

Frequent Disconnecting from WiFi?

Is anyone else having trouble with their WiFi dropping out all the time? My phone keeps dropping WiFi, dropping back to 3G. I have to keep going to settings and telling it to reconnect.
I have a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato firmware. Most things can connect to it just fine, but my Dell Laptop from work gives me a BSOD when I try to connect it wirelessly.
Thoughts?
I think I figured it out. I upgraded my Tomato firmware on the router, and WiFi seems to be working much better.

Please post back if it acts up again. My wifi has stopped working a few times and I had to manually reset it. My problem was compounded because 3g seemed to be active but webpages would timeout and sync would fail. Really annoying.
no problems with my wifi but I turn off network data. Maybe that helps?

I have the same issue. My wi-fi goes down and keeps looping through "obtaining an IP address". Killed my battery last night trying to connect to wi-fi. I can't get it coinnected again until I reset my router. weird?
I don't know if I would classify it as constant, but the University wireless network disconnects after some period of inactivity. I'm not certain if it is due to the phone or the network.

It seems like it is still doing it, but I'm wondering if what it is actually doing now is disconnecting after a period of disuse, then reconnecting.
It seems like if I don't see the WiFi symbol, and I select Mail or the Browser, it will re-appear.
I have similar issues with WIFI. It seems having a hard time connecting or even seeing the signal at times, but other times it's fine. I have WIFI at home and at work, and many places I am so I use it all the time, and all of them I have set up (I'm a sys admin).
I have WiFi analizer loaded and at times it won't even see my netowrks when my laptop is already connected. If I reboot the phone it seems to fix it after a min or so. Sometimes turning WiFi off and on helps but not always.
It's really inconsistant... I'll go a few days with no problems, then it will have problems for a day or so. Open or encrypted don't seem to make a differance.

Tomato firmware, that sounds cute.

Issue 1040: wifi does not timeout on idle
Issue that was in an earlier version of Android, and is back in 2.1.
When the phone sleeps, it turns off WiFi. Then, it won't turn it back on properly until you go to settings or sometimes WiFi settings. Then it just pops on automatically.
Yup, I got this problem too and its very annoying.
It usually happens when the phone has been sleeping for an extended period of time. Sometimes wifi disconnects and will not reconnect even when I'm in the middle of browsing the web.
i had this issue as well.... i went to settings/wireless and networks/wifi settings....then hit menu/advanced/wifi sleep policy.... i selected nver and haven't had a problem since
Problem is, "never" is already selected and issue still persists.
I had set it to 15 minutes to see if it fixed the problem, because I was having it when it was set to never. I'm setting it to never now to see if
the GUI just wasn't displaying the value that was set.

Atrix Google Market Activates HSPA+ Data While on Wifi, Causes Wifi to Stop Working

UPDATE: When comparing to my coworker's phone (who doesn't have this problem), we went through all settings/etc and matched them up exactly. The only major difference between our two phones was that I was running Launcher Pro. When I uninstalled it, this problem went away completely. HSPA+ did get activated in the Google Market, but it didn't hinder my browsing experience. Anyone else having this issue, are you running Launcher Pro? And if so, if you uninstall it, does it fix the problem?
I know that there is an ongoing issue that Motorola is looking into concerning HSPA+ data connectivity dropping out. This is not that issue.
Here's the scenario:
- Atrix 4G purchased on release date
- Using 4G SIM card
- No SIM unlocks
- Have 4Gig Tethering plan
- Set to AT&T US HSDPA APN (have tried AT&T US Tether and AT&T US wap.cingular)
- Connected to Wifi
- Issue occurred prior to rooting and after rooting.
- Issue has occurred since day 1 of using device.
Issue: Launching Google Market and browsing around will eventually start showing connection timeouts, typically after looking in a few app descriptions.
What I notice:
- When connected to wifi, the cell data connection gets turned off (i.e. the grey up/down arrows are no longer showing). I assume this is how it is supposed to work (since if on wifi, no need for cell data connection).
- When launching the Google Market application, and after browsing for a few seconds, I notice the cell data connection doing something (grey arrows come back, and then will briefly show black arrows, then back to grey).
- Once the issue occurs, I attempt to browse in Dolphin or even the XDA application, and it doesn't connect.
- Turning wifi off then back on fixes wifi until I try Google Market again.
- Turning cell data off allows Google Market to work fine with no issue.
Thoughts:
- It seems that when connected to wifi, the cell data connection should be getting overridden regardless.
- Somehow Google Market is causing the cell data connection to activate and messing up wifi
- This happened on a 3G SIM and a 4G SIM (so it doesn't seem like a connection problem, simply a software issue)
- I have a coworker who has an Atrix as well and does not have this problem when connected to wifi
- I have other devices connected to the same wifi without issue (thus not a wifi router issue)
Any and all help is truly appreciated and thank you in advance!
Nice first post and seems pretty accurate. I switched on airplane mode and then just enabled wifi to test this out and had a zen-like market experience. Not a single hang up. Hopefully this will help lead to a fix. Thanks.
Have you tried switching off your data connection before connecting to wifi?
I had a similar issue where my wifi would be on simultaneously with my data connection so I just hit airplane mode whil wifi was on that turned off both wifi and data then I re-enabled wifi (airplane mode still on) waited for it to connect then I turned airplane mode off. Never had the issue again

Hopefully motorola looks into this as this is my only true gripe at the moment. I go to dl an app and it stops at a random percentage, I go back into market and see the app is paused. I cancel and Redownload and usually works. I also get a timeout error almost every time I go into market and have to choose retry or close.

Turning off data connection does solve the problem, however that is only a stop-gap and I have to leave the data connection off (then remember to turn it back on when I leave my wifi area). No other application I use has this issue, so I would expect it's a software problem, but it doesn't seem to affect every Atrix owner.

Exactly, those are my experiences as well when on wifi with cell data not explicitly turned off.
UPDATE: Turns out that when factory resetting, the market app when first run works perfectly (doesn't try to activate cell data when on wifi). The problem is that the market app auto-updates to a version that has this problem.
Here's hoping for a fix soon. Thankfully Juice Defender gives me an automatic way to handle the cell data issue since when it detects it's on wifi, it turns off cell data so I don't have to.
Update
I posted an update in the original post. It seems Launcher Pro was the culprit.

Semi-protected Wi-Fi - Android 4.3

Hi!
I've update my I9505 to Stock 4.3, with root. I've a problem. I use semi-protected WiFI (like at University) that works as follows : the network is technically open to everyone, free, but for navigate\download\anything, you need to open your browser and enter your credentials.
Android 4.2.2 on my I9505 connected automatically to this network, so I opened a browser and put my credentials.
Since I upgraded to 4.3, my phone connects to the network, then disconnects after a few seconds saying that you must authenticate yourself, then I have to enter settings (making it pointless to activate the wifi with the toggle in the notification bar), i've to reconnect to the network manually, wait about 10 \ 15 seconds, then I can open the stock browser and connect from there (I have to connect when it says so). This even though I do not use the toggle, when I activate the wifi in the settings, it connects, disconnects, and I have to reconnect again.
Now, every time I connect I lose a minute when in fact it took a few seconds before, there is no way to return to the previous behavior? Even with root solution. To read an e-mail I have to wait a minute for the connection...
thanks
Edit: sorry, maybe I had to put this thread on Q&A section, but now I can't move...

Yeah I hate it, the same thing happens on the London Underground wifi. It used to just connect then have the notification telling you you had to log in, which you could then click on. What makes it extra doubly annoying, is that the Underground wifi actually does work for everything apart from HTTP traffic before signing in, so you could just not sign in the whole journey and still get email/whatsapp, but not webpages or facebook etc. Now that it disconnects you I don't get anything till I manually connect it.

To get back to the old behaviour go into Settings->Connections->Wifi - > MENU button ->Advanced and disable "auto network switch"
I found I had to do this to get such networks to work ok, otherwise the wifi network was deactivated

WiFi exclamation mark please help.

Ever since I connected my galaxy s8 to the router my WiFi is having problems. First every time I try to download something from the play store it takes ages ( not to talk about the system update I downloaded) it gets stuck at 128 kbs then up to 5mbs then stuck again while it works everywhere else in the house. Second, I've been getting an exclamation mark next to the WiFi sign on my galaxy s8,every time that happens I don't have WiFi on my phone AND everywhere else for like 5 minutes or more it's usually happening when I try to download something. I don't know why it's happening but it's really frustrating honestly. I once came back home and decided to leave WiFi off on the phone and everything worked just fine untill I turned it on again in the evening... It's really weird. I thought its because of my router so I decided to switch to another router which is coming tomorrow. I hope it won't happen on the new router but could you guys help me to figure why this happening to me and maybe fix it? Thank you.

That is really weird. I only get the exclamation when I am connected to wifi but need to supply a login for it like a public wifi that makes you go to a webpage and sign in. I have a G6, but figured I'd chime with my experience in the hope it helps you out.

Yeah I know what you mean xD I'd have that too in public WiFi but in home when I have that exclamation mark it says " Internet connection may not be accessible" or something like that under my WiFi name in Internet settings.

That is strange. Honestly, it sounds like an issue with your ISP or modem/router.
I would get the exclamation when the signal got too weak, especially on 5ghz wifi which my unit had terrible reception for. Also I noticed that holding the phone by the top (my left hand in landscape orientation) would really kill the 5ghz reception and cause the exclamation to pop up and wifi lost.
I would start with login into router and make sure it's updated to latest FW and is set to auto update. Then I would check other settings, for example you may be over the limit for maximum connected devices.
Just to chime in, I have the same problem on my S8. I'll be connected to wifi and after 10-15 minutes I'll notice I'm getting no notifications and will see that the wifi icon has the "!" next to it. The wifi also disconnects when the screen is off, which appears to be a very common bug. I'll notice about 15 seconds after I turn the screen on that I get the message "Your phone is connected to xxxx wifi" or whatever it says. I use a sonos speaker as my alarm clock in the morning, so I have to sit there and wait to connect to wifi before I can turn off the music. It is terribly annoying.
I was having this same issue. I have the VZW S8+. After upgrading to new system update AQDF, I have not had the wifi "!" issue anymore. I cleaned system cache after the upgrade.
S8+ here. I get the exclamation point and disconnectivity randomly at home. Disabling and reenabling wifi works, but it's really annoying...
I was experiencing this maybe 3-4 weeks ago but my wifi has never been the best so I assumed that was the issue. I cleared the cache, reset router, forgot & reconnected to wifi, none of which helped but in time it's disappeared. Wish I could be of more help.

On the s8, this is what the ! Is intended for. When your signal is too low, it will stop it until it is good enough quality. Deemed by whatever dbm Samsung has set. It only disconnects when smart network switch is turned on. When it is turned off, you will still get the ! Which is just saying that the connection is not favorable and will be slow, so you should move closer to the router

Only time I get the ! is when my home broadband drops out which thanks to Virgin is quiet often lately. Sometimes however, it still works even with the ! showing.
Unlocked S8 owner and i have the exact same problem. Getting the exclamation mark next to wifi symbol and internet connection get lost or brcome extreme slow. It is not the issue of the distance from the router...
Where can I clean the system cache ? without loose my settings or program?

I have the same problem with my office router. The signal quality is excellent but the exclamation mark ( ! ) does appear sometimes. It does not happen daily as some days the luck appears to be good but sometimes its really frustating as the mark keeps showing on Wifi and it does not work. As stated by other member above all other devices works perfectly fine. I am using TP Link 54M Wireless Router, Model No.: TL-WR340G/TL-WR340GD. Please advise.

I have the same issue from time to time. in my home I have a mesh wifi system and I notice that in 1 room in particular where the signal drops from 702 mgps to 234 mgps I get the exclamation point and can't use wifi at all. have to turn it off and use lte instead. this also happens from time to time on the strong signal. At work the wifi is at 52 mgps and I never have issues with the exclamation point and wifi not available message. the other people in my home do not have the same issue with their phones so this is definitely a Samsung issue. I have a feeling will either need to get a different phone or return it for a different manufacturer. Any ideas on a fix for this without either of those solutions?
For my s8+ Solved
I was having wifi exclamation mark on my s8+
I solved this issue with changing the wireless security settings on my router
Change :
Version : WPA2-PSK
Encryption : AES
#And also wipe cache partition of your phone#
It's working on my s8+ and now internet work perfectly without exclamation mark or disconnecting
Go to your settings, connections, mobile networks, access point names. Click the three dots upper right and select reset to default. Restart your phone. The exclamation will not return when on wifi.
