Has anyone here been able to get the DNLA function in their Desire HD to actually work?
I have tried sharing photos, videos, and music via the "Connected Media" app that comes preinstalled on the device, but its not working. I have my DHD and a PS3 connected to my wifi router, and I can stream from my laptop to my PS3 no problem. I had hoped I would be able to look at my photos and videos on my TV via the PS3's DNLA capabilities.
Connected Media was not working, so I then tried installing and running an alternative media sharing app, TwonkyServer Mobile - but again, no joy.
I can see the DNLA Android service running when I go into Settings->Applications->Running Services, so now I am wondering, is there something wrong with that service?
HTC's own website advertising the Desire HD states :
"Some moments you never want to forget. So capture them with HTC Desire HD’s high definition video camera. Then relive and share every detail in HD on your TV, long after the memories have faded."
So far, I have not been able to do anything of the sort
From what I can tell, in terms of recieving streams from other devices, it *does* work, but is VERY limited in terms of what content it can play back.
However, in terms of playing back content from the phone - it requires a very specific device (i.e. HTC's Hub) in order to be able to play back content. Poor move by HTC.
I thought the HTC Hub was for TV's that don't support DLNA?
i can get mine working with xbmc in linux, some pictures seemed to crash it though.
Mine works very well.
It streams from connected media to my DLNA enabled Samsung TV or DLNA enabled Sony Blu Ray. It has also worked well streaming to Windows 7 pcs. Very quick and very clear.
I've not had much luck playing divX files from my DLNA nas on my phone though, music plays fine.

I thought the whole idea was that it meant videos/photos taken using the Desire HD could then be displayed on TVs via DNLA. PS3s are DNLA compliant which meant a lot of people out there should already be able to use that as their DNLA client. I was looking forward to seeing my new 720p videos on my TV via the PS3.
NB Streaming from other devices to the Desire HD I am not that concerned with.
If anyone has been able to successfully stream from their Desire HD to their TV via a PS3, please let it be known

How do you setup the phone and win7 pc to stream music/fotos/videos from the pfone to the pc?
I want this because I have a mediacenter HTPC connected to my tv in the livingroom

It should work, because DLNA is a standard protocol. It would be stupid of HTC to come up with a proprietary protocol and label it as "DLNA".
To the OP: are you sure you are connected to your internal network? If you install ES File Explorer, or Android SFTP, can you connect to a PC from your DHD?
edit: both HTC Desire Z & HD are DLNA Certified Products, so they should work with any other DLNA device => http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG46355642.pdf
In this certification document, apparently only IMAGES are certified as media that can be streamed, so only pictures, no music or movies.

I definitely have the DHD connected to the internal network (by which I assume you mean my wifi router?). I checked on my router's admin webpages and the phone is being allocated an IP address etc ok so I dont think there is anything wrong on a TCP/IP level.
I will install Android SFTP later and try connecting to my laptop, but I'd still love to hear if anyone has had any DHD->PS3 success.
Yeah if anyone can get it to work with the PS3 that would be great.
Also you could try install Twonky Mobile and see if that works.
Ok, I tried using Connected Media on my DHD in conjunction with Windows Media Player on Windows 7...and it worked perfectly!
Perhaps PS3's are not actually fully DNLA compliant, or there is some obscure setting hidden somewhere in the PS3 that I havent switched on (I doubt the latter however) ?
In any case, I think this proves that Connected Media does in fact work. Thanks to whoever suggested trying it against something other than a PS3.
As always, if anyone actually does get it to work with a PS3 - please shout!

It all runs through Windows Media Player.
Open it up, choose 'stream' from the menu and choose 'allow remote control of my player' and then it should work.
If it doesn't then you have to fiddle with the streaming settings in 'more streaming options'
is it possible to access shares in the network and make a share so other pc's can access this on the DHD?
I'm able to stream content to my ps3 over dlna. Not through the default application but twonky mobile. It works perfectly watching a 720p movie without any stutters.

i tried both but somehow the windows media player of win7 doesn't appear to be in my desire hd.
btw, i could see the video files of win7 but when i clicked any, i could only hear the sound but not the video screen. any idea?

Check the file you are trying to stream. It has to be .mp4 with h264/aac encoding of the video/audio streams. The bitrate should also be reasonable (2000k works for sure)
You actually have different types of dlna devices : It depends of the capabilities of the sending device and the receiving device...

As most of us dont have a Tv-out plug on our phones, Would it be possible to have the android phone to transmit video/audio over wifi to a wifi video receiver box connected to your Tv?
Ive allways wanted to be able to hook up my HTC Desire to the Tv and play some Snes emulators on it, And unfortunatley it doesent have Tv-out like the Incredible or Evo.
This idea cant be to crazy right? Wifi is capable to send video/audio and there are loads of wifi video/audio receiver on the market.
Noone thinks this can be done?

Yeah exactly, If you search for "TV Output on DROID Incredible by HTC" on Youtube you will see what I wanna achieve, But I want to do it through Wifi instead since most phones dont have a Tv-Out plug.
Apparently I missed the part of the question that says that you want to play some Snes emulators, sorry. As I already typed the following before I re-read your question, I'll post it nevertheless. UPnP media servers are only for media files, not for showing the screen of your phone.
TwonkyServer Mobile is a UPnP media server. It reads the media files on your phone and delivers it to UPnP media renderers, i.e. a box that you can connect to your TV and receive UPnP media streams. Some TVs already have a UPnP media renderer built-in. There's also software that acts as a UPnP media renderer, so you could connect a HTPC to your TV.
AndroMote is a UPnP control point, i.e. a remote control that tells your UPnP media renderer what it should play. The files are served by your UPnP media server (e.g. Twonky Server Mobile). AndroMote is also a media renderer (to play videos on the phone screen), but you don't have to use that.
You could also ignore AndroMote altogether and use the UPnP control point (remote control) that probably comes with your UPnP media renderer.

These seem quite cool, Tobad that they dont support playing back programs/emulators running on the phone or they would be perfect.
HTC itselft promotes this little box ist called "HTC Link"

Is there anyway to stream local media (video/music/images) from your home pc to the HD2 when both of them are connected on the same network?
My N82 and N97 did that flawlessly, (by media server), was wondering if I can do something similar via Tversity installed on my pc.

I'm not aware of a DLNA client for windows mobile, but TVersity comes with a web interface. Why not just use that?
Or, you can use pocket player with the uPNP plugin to stream audio, I am not sure how well video streaming works though as I never could get it to work satisfactoryly.
download tversity for your pc and get tcpmp player for your phone. I have to look into starting a post about this if there isn't one
I am also interested in this feature. I don't understand why Windows mobile doesn't have some sort of media sharing or media extender feature natively. I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network, turn on file sharing, and play a media file on my TV via my Xbox. I know that the HD2 does not have a video output method (such as the Nokia's, Incredible, Evo, etc), so I would hope to at least be able to make up for it wirelessly.
I was doing this exactly last year with my HD1, using the Network Plugin + CorePlayer/TCMCP so it is possible.
Just browse your network on your HD, find the file, and click Play.
For people who also have a Home Theartre set-up powered by a PC, check out GRemote as a great program to browse files on your HD2 and then launch them/control playback on your TV.
Hey everybody. I just got my Galaxy two days back. It's amazingly fast
However, I've been having problems with the DLNA software. I cannot get a single file to play either on the galaxy or on a pc.
I've tried three different software solutions on my server (PS3 Media Server, Tversity and FUPPES) and non of them worked and neither does streaming from the galaxy to WMP. It just says "Unable to play"
Any ideas?
Darkstriker, you are not alone, as a number of people have been having problems with DLNA. I have streaming working from one machine and not the other and yet they appear to be pretty much identitcal on the same network.
The second machine had been working, but then stopped. The only difference was an Office installation, and I cant see why that has any bearing on it.
Use the Samsung PC Share Manager.

This is not really a workable answer.... especially when you are trying to use DLNA with a TV.
I have had and continue to have problems connecting to any DLNA devices.
Basically the Galaxy S doesn't show any Media Devices in the list to choose from.
TravUK above has tried many times to help me sort this out but despite checking this, that and the other the GS just does not want to show any devices.
I managed to view video's and photo's from my iMac through DLNA, using MediaLink (PS3 UPnP server)
It didn't work with all video's, but the Samsung Galaxy S sample video's linked in another thread streamed fine.

I've managed to get wmv's and divx avi's to play on the PS3 through allshare but can't get it to connect to the xbox 360 whatsoever. It won't play the vids captured with the phones camera and also it seems picky about exactly which version of wmv the clip has been encoded with.

Do you mean that you can't stream to x360 at all? or you mean the file formats, codecs?
Streaming to the x360 requires running it on extender mode.. you need to have Windows Media Center on your pc and use the code the x360 gives you to complete the set up with it.
X360 has an optional media update that will allow it to run more formats. you can find it under the videogames marketplace>Game addons.

Can't see the phone at all on the xbox360 and couldn't see any way of locating the phone from the xbox interface although the phone can see the xbox when you try to share a clip. I was surprised that the xbox was supposed to support the phone sharing but it's been mentioned in several reviews of the galaxy s so thought I must be doing something wrong.

I don't know if you can push media from the x360 to SGS. The problem however doesn't seem from the SGS.. its probably the X360.
Agreed, although i'm trying to stream from the SGS to the xbox I think it's still most likely the 360 having the issues..
I'm having a similar problem. My Galaxy can see the xbox 360 but the 360 can't see it. Plsk1n, could you give a bit more detail on the steps you used to get it working?
Failing that, I may just buy the TV out cable for the phone

The Xbox doesn't come as DLNA ready device out of the box. You need to setup a Windows Media Center Environment on it and on your PC and then use the xbox360 as an extender device to the PC environment.
Note: you don't need to keep windows media center running if you want to push media to your xbox360.
Here are the steps
1- Install Windows Media Center on your PC.
2- Run the Media Center setup on your xbox 360, when you start it it will tell you to write down a code for installation with your PC... write the code down.
3- Run your Windows Media Center on your PC and go down to tasks>add extender... you will use the code you wrote from the xbox in the process.
4- Complete setting up the xbox360 as the extender then check the options/preferences to allow the x360 to accept pushed media from other devices.
On my side, the PS3 ca see my phone but I didn't manage to play anything on teh PS
I tried divx, mp3, jpeg photo and it can't play them
I can stream from my QNAP nas to the GS almost everything, except 720p HD videos (tv shows). Sometimes however the GS simply can't see the nas, even with a strong wifi signal.
I can see my MacBook Pro and my DirecTV DVR through All Share but haven't been able to get antying to download, play or stream. I'd really like to be able to download media from the DirecTV DVR and take it on the road to go.
I can see my laptop, but can't actually see any files. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? It's annoying, as I know it's probably something stupid that I am doing (like not setting up sharing properly on my lappy). I haven't even tried it the other way around (laptop streaming from phone).

Whats not being made clear is the fact that you have to BE in windows media center mode on the XBOX360 when you use allshare. What will happen is that "xbox360 media center" will show up as a device in allshare AND THEN you can push media FROM your phone TO your xbox360.

It's not working that way for me. The Xbox360 option disappears from AllShare when I'm in Media Center Extender mode on the Xbox (connected to the Media Center PC). Where are the options he's talking about? On the Xbox, or on the PC?
DNLA works fine here! not with PS3 media server but with the stock "streaming" option in windows media player! i can even control the player from my phone!
And i can see the DLNA server from my laptop!
How do I use this thing? I Googled it but couldn't find much info. How do I add a server? Is it all done over WiFi?
How to use All Share
All Share allows you to stream pictures, video and music to and from your device over your local wifi network. It should work with DLNA certified devices. It works using uPnP. Basically, you can use it some TVs, home media servers and gaming consoles such as PS3. That said, I don't own anything like that. There is free software the will allow you to access and play files to and from your computer with ease.
I suggest XBMC.
Once XBMC is installed go to:
Configure Sysytem -> Settings -> Network
Check the following boxes:
1) Share video and music libraries through UPnP
2) Allow control of XBMC via UPnP
Now fire up All Share on your device select play file from your phone to device. In addition to your local computer you should see XBMC, select it and enjoy the stream. I've been very impressed with the video quality. I'm sure there are other application that will allow you to stream to your PC but so far this was the simplest solution I've found.
Oh and prepare to be disappointed, Avatar was not an option, aside from the trailer. If your looking to convert your own movies for mobile use I'd suggest you start with Handbrake. It's very easy to use.

It's intended to work over wifi only, however, this might be possible through ORB. It does recognize the device in All Share but frankly haven't tooled around with it much. I'll let you know what I find out.

I have been able to stream to my wdtv live with no issues. I don't have custom firmware, just the latest stock firmware.
However, my phone will not see wdtv as a server or nas? Which sucks cause that's where all the media is.
Playon, tversity, ps3media server and Xbmc all streamed media from a hard drive or my pc perfectly.
Playon was not able to stream, online media I.e. Hulu, adult swim.
I've been able to stream videos to my phone using AllShare from two of my Windows 7 machines, no additional software needed. I have a Homegroup setup and just have the the folders containing the videos shared with the Homegroup.

Windows 7 supports DLNA, which is what AllShare uses for media streaming. I'm able to share videos, music, and pictures over Wifi on my home network. I like to stream videos from my PCs to my phone for viewing either on my phone, or on my TV through the video out capability of the Vibrant's 3.5mm headphone jack.
Take a look at this link to enable your media sharing on Windows 7:

I have windows 7, I created a homegroup and shared my libraries ...I cannot see the files or folders with allshare. It tell me no media. I restarted my computer and phone. I don't know what the problem is but I've been messing with it for a while now and thought I'd try and get some help

If you remember, what file format were you able to steam through playon to your phone? I couldn't get any files or online streams to work. Also did you use the "My Media" or the "Local Files" plug-in?

how to use allshare between vibrant and ps3?
hi guys... i've been reading all the threads on allshare but could not find an answer for the ps3 sharing. my ps3 recognized the vibrant right away but there was no content in video,audio or pictures. (yes i did choose files on the phone and added to playlist)..

Holy shiznit....This is bad ass...I can now stream all of my TV shows from my PC to my phone while I am laying in bed. Now I can watch episodes of Burn Notice while my wife hogs up the TV.
I just tried it and it works like a charm.
Those of you who aren't sure how to do it I will explain:
-Using Windows 7, download the latest Windows Media Player
-Add your videos to a playlist
-Open up Allshare and select the second option
-Find your playlist and start watching

So i can use XBMC and be able to control video on my PC from my phone, but when i try to play media on my PC to my phone the video and music library says no content. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...maybe I need my media in a specific folder? I tried my shared libraries in Win7, but nothing in those folders show up.

I had the same issue with Win7. Do you have the latest version of windows media player? If not upgrade, then make certain to select "allow remote control of my player" and "Automatically allow devices to play media" from the Stream tab in windows media player. This should to access the files instead of just seeing empty folders.
It works with an Xbox 360 using media center too.
Pretty useful for showing video clips on my phone via a bigger screen.

Still not working...I have the latest and enabled the two options listed, but when I select from my phone "play file from server on my phone" now my PC doesn't show up as an option.
The only time I see my PC as an option on my phone is if i'm running XBMC, but even then I don't see any videos to select.
Found this video that helped explain how to setup the video library in XBMC which was easy to do, but now when add any of my movies to the playlist it says it cannot play the video even though most of them are AVI...unless it can't play AVI on the phone player...if that's the case, that good sir is LAME.

edit: Found a WMV file on my PC...put that file in the library and added it to the playlist...it keeps looking like it's loading or something, but nevers ends up playing it was never meant to be I guess

Connected yes, actually play anything with any watchable quality no.
I used Media Player 12 in window 7, but it doesn't work.
I've also used it on my PS3 but it tends to have some issues from time to time.
Working great through wifi using iMediashare tool on my Desire and LG BD390 bluray player. No special options though.

Using nothing more then the media sharing capabilities built into win7 + divx. Using twonky I am able to play anything shared on my main library to any device running win7 and the built in windows media player with the appropriate setting.
in win7, just make sure you have your libraries shared. With that, your phone, using twonky, should see the upnp/dlna server and be able to play music. I have a collection of mostly divx video, this u cannot play on the phone. I am still hoping for a divx/xvid codec..
If you have a mediacenter/server setup. Ensure your win7 libraries are shared on the library and you can see these shared libraries on your win7 mediacenter. If you can, run windows media player on the mediacenter. Under the Stream menu button check the option to "Allow Remote Control of My Player". Confirm this option and you will now see it on your phone using twonky. You will be able to play music/movies to your mediacenter because it should have the capabilities of decoding the video.
Going further, I have internet access enabled on my media. I can access everything I have from anywhere I have. Haven't tried to do this on my phone yet.. But I prob will sometime. I think the solution may be as simple as a vpn connection to my home network.

Works perfectly with my WDTV Live player...
But I'm certainly interested in what nicholasb has to say about the streaming home content via VPN.... if I'm not mistaken.
