i'm fairly new to internet plans because i'm simply too cheap to pay for them. i've been thinking about signing up for an internet plan for my 8125 for a while now. i know in the tmobile stores they say that tzones can't work on a mda/wizard but i know thats crap. i'm pretty sure i've read somewhere that you can use the mda with tzones. i absolutely will not pay $30 a month for real html. its just not worth it for me. just to be sure though, if i had tzones can i only browse wap sites? if only wap sites can i browse them with pocket internet explorer and not that cheesy tmobile tzones browser? will i be able to use tzones with other data applications on my phone? will i be able to send email and log on to icq from tzones? is tzones unlimited?
any information would be great
(sorry if this thread is in the wrong place)
Last one first....you'd do better checking tmo's site, I have no idea what levels they have. That being said, if you don't do a whole lot, you should be fine with tzones. Most stuff works through it via proxy settings you can find on the site. The included IM app uses sms messages so it doesn't matter. If you use another IM app, however, you'll only be able to use it if you can change the connection port from the app to use one of the few ports open for tzones use. Email should be fine.
All that having also been said...a lot of people have been reporting that tzones is wide open and everything works. I have a feeling that they're working on something and this won't be the case for long so don't get complacent to wake up one morning and find nothing works except email. You get what you pay for.
I see your in NYC I'm in Jersey and over here the tzones is working without any proxy settings, I had been using tzones with the proxy settings for about 1 year and another user mentioned on the forums that it was working without the proxy.
With the proxy settings I was always able to check my gmail, browse the web with pocket internet explorer, but as markgamber said IMs don't work with the proxy, at the moment since I'm using it without the proxy everything is working fine.
I'm thinking that they might be fiddling around with the UMTS network or something, since they are already deploying it in some areas, and if I remember correctly by the end of this year it should be pretty much deployed everywhere.... or maybe they realized that it's not cool to charge customers a difference of $25 a month for the same service just because they have different phones.
I was playing with my 8125 at church and figured out how to get tzones... I dont have an internet plan, but I was accessing the internet and my pop3 mail with tzones (gprs) ...
Is tzones free???
There's definitely something going on, hmmm, I'll have to get someone who doesn't have tzones to try it out.
It works without proxy in NYC.
And If you don't have a plan, you might get charged by the KILO.
looks like i'm gonna be trying out tzones for a while.
well i duno what's going on. But when i got this phone (3 weeks ago) my internet was working. I purchased the 5.99tmobileweb addon, and everything was fine and dandy. last friday it just stopped.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I live in orange county, California.
I called tmobile and they said i have to purchase the $29.99 total web and hotspot. but i dont want hotspot!
It's gone.
TMO put an end to the freebie. If you look at howard forums in the t-mobile forum, there are a bunch of threads explaining how to set up the proxy for the internet to work again. Hope this helps.

tell them you have the 5.99 web plan and your gprs isnt working... when they try to upsell you the internet plan tell them where they can go.

they can go to hell!
i cant even access wap sites. wtf is this 5.99 tmobileweb ****
Tmobile web was created for regular cell phones...$30.00 isn't that bad when you look at what you get. I will agree that not everyone needs the hotspot access and it would be nice if it was seperate but compare it to cingular's $50 unlim PDA Data plan...
wtf so i dont need to pay for my 5.99 service?
for full service you would need the 30 dollar plan. I remember back before the MDA when it was 15 dollars. then the MDA came with Wifi and tmob I guess thought that they were doing a service by uping the internet price to include Hotspot access for anyone with a smartphone.
Please go to this link to configure your phone.
http://tmobileus.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst
You need to add a proxy server.
Then it will work. I had the same issue as you.
Has anyone gotten this to work lately?
my MDA works fine with the $5.99 plan. I had to put the proxy info in after the May 9th t-mobile patch but it still works, although it's not full internet anymore as some ports are blocked.
Hi, I've just purchased a Tmobile Wing, and I've been browsing around on these forums, and I have a few questions I couldn't find the answers to. I'm pretty new so please be patient .
1. Wifi - Through free wifi spots, are there any charges through T-mobile for using internet, using IM through clients such as IM+ and palringo, etc. Basically, are there any fees or charges attached to through accessing the internet through free wifi. Does a data plan, or any other plan have to be purchased to do this? Also, what is GPRS in relation to wifi?
2. What is a Hard/Soft-SPL?
3. More to follow
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
anyone? ha ha

SORRY FOR THE CAPS IM AT WORK SO I NEED EM ON
Forsure. Thanks a lot ilikepu. I just wasn't sure, cause I read so many posts regarding proxy settings, GRPS, etc. I got so confused, and am now still even confused about internet on the Wing and it's price. Is it just me, or does no one have as much of an abundance of free wifi spots as where I am (Berkeley, CA). Yeah, so if anyone could help me out a bit and give me some info on proxy settings and shifting from GRPS.

Hi,
Link is in post #2.
Thank you, That answered my question I was wondering today about too. Lame they took it out when it was a main feature I bought the phone for. Thanks for posting it.
I did this install. I have the WiFi app installed, and running. Screen says WiFiSharing running, and ready to accecpt connections. But, when I go to my PC's, neither of them see this router. They see my home router, and several of the neighbors' routers, but not on my HD2. What could I be missing?
Try to stop the wifi router apllication and start again. It happens to my sometimes.
You can try also this, for me it worked:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5988689#post5988689
That link solved my problem. My default name for the router did not have a blank in it, but just changing the name of the router for some reason made it visible. Thanks for the help!
Using Wifi Router on O2 Unlimited web
Be very careful if you are gonna use the Wifi router and you're on O2 Unlimited web.
In December, when I ordered my HD2, I was told I would have the unlimited web & download and that O2 were the only UK provider to give a "Truly unlimited mobile web service."
I've have since had my Unlimited web bolt on revoked because they said I was using it too much. According to my bills, I had been using about 1GB per month. After numerous calls to O2 I found out that the service is not unlimited and a fair use policy applies (only 200MB per month allowed). Had I have know this back in December I might have chosen a different provider but now I'm stuck on the O2 contract until July 2011.

Thanks for the warning. However, I have the USA T-mobile unlimited data plan. I wonder if they have the same limitation. Anyone know?
Most carriers including TMO say 5GB a month. Which is quite alot if you just use the router as a backup for when your main internet goes down or your on the road, not a good idea for torrents tho.

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes I can see the network and connect to it, but I have no internet still. I installed the htc wifi app on a stock tmobile US rom, to no avail. Same thing happened with the wm wifi app that is available - so I'm wondering if TMobile is blocking this somehow?
I was counting on having working wifi tethering, as I have been doing very easily with my G1, but so far no luck. This is a bit of a deal breaker for me.

I think I saw a post somewhere saying to change your default wireless access point name on the phone, apparently it fixes it afterwards.

There is a wifi tether app in the omarket that works better.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/omarket/
Look for "Mobile Wi-Fi Router.
The app from omarket is just a beta (public) version of the HTC app, that's why it has "xda" in the name. They look the same, do the same thing - which, for me, is absolutely nothing, lol.
As for T-Mobile US, the limit is 10gb before they threaten to cap you. I've had them threaten me a few times, but so far, I can still download at 2MBit/second, lol. I have not heard of anyone actually getting capped yet, though, so I wouldn't worry. The way today's phones are headed, 10gb / month will be considered normal usage soon.
Back to the topic, I still ahve no luck with any of the wifi tether apps I have found - 3 that I know of, and i Have done hard resets, etc, changed names, etc. Still, my pc will see it but no internet. I can switch my SIM card to My Android G1, and tethering works right off the bat. I'm confounded.

hi.a friend of mine got a n1 just two days ago.after playing with it for some time(this is also my first time playing with android) i noticed that the data connection is always on and as he doesnt have a data plan he had been charged a lot.
we searched and found an app called APNdroid and now it seems that the phone doesnt connect automatically.but now he cant send mms o recieve. the mms button is ticked in apndroid and all the settings seem to be fine.can some one please help.
thanks
You need a separate APN for mms on most networks.
Question - what is the point of having an N1 without a data connection? Might as well have any old cheap crappy phone (which would probably actually be better for making calls than the N1 anyway!).

Hey you should try toggle data widget, it allows mms but blocks all other data connections. Its what I use when I'm not running the desire rom. I have to block data because it is so much more expensive here in New Zealand than most other places. 10mb a day for $1 and then $1 for every mb over that.. The nexus one would chew that up in seconds lol
