Heya, I'm going to visit the gamescom 2010 in Cologne in a few weeks. And right now, my Dream is draining his battery faster than you could say uhhm... a really short word. And Cologne is not really close, that means atleast 8 hours of listening to music etc.
So I'm searching for a Eclair ROM with a nice, long battery life. I already looked into the ROM bible, but without real user experiences it don't really persuades me. Or does someone have some advices how to save as much battery life as possible?

Hey Alex, I got usually around 10 hours of battery life using SpeedTeam Eclair, now that wasnt playing music for 8 hours straight. All newer Roms on the G1, Eclair (2.1) and Froyo (2.2) drain battery life and will never last as long as a Donut (1.6) Rom did. I am current using SuperFast which is a Donut Rom and yesterday I got 17 hours before I plugged it in to fully charge and I still had 40% of battery life to go. So I would say if your looking for great battery life go back to a Donut rom.
If you want a rom to show off then an eclair or froyo rom is where its at but dont expect the battery to last over 10 hours of moderate use. Now you could try Speedteam and while traveling there Turn on Airplane mode (which of course shuts all cell/data Off) and you should get a better battery life. But then again you wont beable to talk to anybody or receive txt messages. Hope this helps.
Sorry about the Rom Bible the user experiences part has been lacking but I just dont have the time lately to flash all the roms and test them out, I have requested other users to give me there experiences and I would place it in the post. But yet again hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, I'm gonna give SuperFast a try and with airplane mode and lowest screen brightness during the train ride, it could work.

Use an app called "setcpu" ($2 on market, free from the G1 apps section). Use it and set the max to 128 or 245. Under 128, you might get music to skip. On eclair I seem to be stable at the lower frequencies so I use 128 to listen to music. If 128 isn't good for you, try 245. This will make your battery last aproximately 50% or more longer.
Also, try amazon.com. I'd be surprised if you have to spend more the $6 shipped to your house for an OEM battery.
$10 for an extended battery.
Adds about 1/4" to your device, but its well worth it.

I finally stopped trying to get Eclair and Froyo to have a decent battery life and went back to SuperD just before I went on vacation a while back. I couldn't be happier - you forget how fast a G1 can be after you get used to Eclair.

Turn off profile's on set cpu and underclock it while the screen is off. You're going for maximum battery life, not performance.
Hey guys! I'm a new user on this forum and I also a completely new android user, I have just gotten the HTC Desire HD. And I'm really really enjoying the OS. The way you can customize the OS is amazing! And Therefore I feel like I have been missing out for a while.
However there is one single problem about the HTC Desire HD and sadly it's a pretty big problem. (You guessed it,) the battery life. I'm not gonna lie, if i cut some features i can easily get through a whole day. But whats the point of buying a phone with lot's of features if you can't use them, and whats the point of having a 4.3" screen if you can't have the brightness level at 50+.
To the point!
HTC have already made updated batteries that have a much higher capacity than the original batteries, these are for some of their other products.
(just look at the higher capacity HD2 batteries by HTC, they have a higher capacity than the original HD2 batteries.)
That's why i suggest that we all contact HTC and let them know that we are both aware and annoyed by the horrible battery. And then request a better and improved battery for the Desire HD.
If you look at their updates, they have a pretty good history of listening to their customers.
And if their customer service department get about 300 requests in one single day I am absolutely sure that we will see a result in a month or maybe even faster.
I live in Denmark myself and I've seen a similar thread in
a Danish forum and in two days time we have had 183 people send mails to the Scandinavian HTC customer service.
Now there is only about 2000 active users on that forum so that's pretty good for two days. And with such a huge success in a Danish forum, I'm sure a big forum like this would do even better!
So if you have the time to write a little email to the HTC customer service telling them about the poor battery life and then make a request for a better battery, I (and probably every DHD user) would appreciate it.
And even if you are one of those lucky users that can go for days without charging while having standard settings,helping us wouldn't hurt.

Well....although I do get your point, I am not sure that I, and probably other people as well, agree entirely on the 'horrible' battery life.
Yes, at first, it does look to have poor capacity when you get your DHD out of the box.
But remember, a lot of people, if not allm are using their new toy a lot the first couple of days.
If you browse this forum and the DHD topics you'll see that people report a lot better battery life after a couple of charges.
In addition to this, when you get into rooting and flashing, you'll see that users with custom roms, custom kernels and special profiles setup in Setcpu (like less Mhz usage when the screen is off) actually even get better battery life out if their DHD....
In essence, from what I have read, most people are able to use their DHD for one day without charging, which in my opinion, is quite acceptable, considering the size of the screen, the speed of the device and the possibilities and syncing going on....
If I sometimes read other cells'threads, it appears to me that the battery life on the DHD is not that far off, or even is better, than other top devices....
Having said that.....the effort you take I understand for sure, I just am not sure that HTC will do anything about it (as I think what we get is what we should expect)...

DHD battery life sucks.
There is no point defending it. Its a bloody mobile phone, it supposed to be able to work out of box, not a science project that u have to spend days tweaking it in order to last a day without the bloody adapter!

If you mean 'it's supposed to have the best possible life the first time I fully charge it on day one' then, no it's not. You are wrong.
I just don't get it this was my first proper Android phone after coming from a HD2 and an iPhone 4 and the battery life is on par with both out of the box however simply reducing the time some apps sync I mean can you really not wait the 2 sec ish Twitter etc take to update? Really does improve battery life I have my screen set to 30% brightness which is more than enough if not you need specsavers not a new battery.
At a push I can get 2 days out of my DHD and I would say I'm a average to heavy user about 30 min calls 50 odd text and a couple of hours playing games surfing the net
Gadget show last night drained an iPhone 4 from full charge to flat in 2 hours using the layer app
I don't use setcpu etc I've just used some common sense.

well, i charged mine overnight, leave home at 7, phone dead most days by 5pm. u can defend the battery life as much as you want, and i m glad u like yours. less than 12hr of standard use makes any smartphone useless in my view.

I use iphone4 along side my DHD, almost identical setup in terms of sync and updates. when my DHD battery flat out in the afternoon, iphone4 has typically over 80% left.
I dont think it takes a rocket scientist to see DHD's battery is an issue.

Unplug mine from charging about midnight, get home from work between 18.30 and 20.30 and most nights I have approx 30-40% battery left, LiOn batteries need multiple charge / discharge cycles to get the best out of them so no phone is gonna be at it's best outta the box.
There seems to be massive difference in peoples experience with there DHD mine defo lasts as long as the iPhone 4 I had how yours can last less than 20% there must be something wrong

mine actually died last night (the first night i had it) i was a little surprised but i checked the battery usage and com.zxing..... used like 70%
lol it seems the barcode scanner didn't close and kept the camera on all night
I am a heavy user Facebook sync every hour a hundred odd texts a day few hours of internet browsing and I can get more than 12 hours mainly like 15 hours unplug at 7.30am and charge it 12.30am

it seems that some people have a very good battery life even with heavy use,and some don't. I am new to android having come from windows mobile. In winmo devices,the radio version on the device can make a difference to the battery life on similiar devices.maybe this is the same case on DHD because I noticed there are several version of stock roms with different built of radio image.

There isn't really a benchmark for "heavy user". I reckon its largely due to different interpretations. Throw the difference in batteries that are likely to exist due to the manufacturing process, and you'd get varying reported results.

why do people complaint so much about battery life of DHD and other smartphone. when you look at their capabilities, you wouldn't switch your laptop on an expect it to last all day. cause its a smartphone doesn't mean it can do everything for you!
if the battery really bad, then the is a fault i.e faulty battery,app which is eating up resources, radio constantly changing from 2g to 3g which i think one of the biggest drain on battery or a set up which just going to drain battery faster etc etc. These phone when "out of the box" are set up to show the phone off, so yes its going to have it all sing and dancing at you! with everything switched on why you taylor the setting to meet your needs. please don't come back and say "but yes why have i got a smartphone and then i have to switch off all these features" you don't but don't expect it to last all day.

True, but i honestly cant see why it would hurt to encourage HTC to make a new battery with higher capacity as a part of their accessory lineup for the Desire HD.
sorry yeah i do agree with you, that HTC sould bring out a higher capactiy battery and don't understand why HTC have not used a higher capactiy battery in first place. ive also have a X10(1500mAh) and BB storm2(1400mAh) both have higher capactiy, and X10 is the worst for battery life out of the 3 phones and DHD beats both these phone on battery life.
HTC have the reasons why they used that size battery for the DHD and if they do bring out a higher capactiy at least you can believe the claims of it being a 1800mAh, were these 3rd party batteries claim 1800mAh but really you only getting 1400mAh.
i was not aiming this rant at you, an im sorry, its to people that complain about battery life of todays smartphone and there expections of them.

Mine is using about 4 an hour. But I figure that's cos I rarely properly exit apps.

Use : no really ( check my mails every 3 hours , 20 sms per day , little internet with 3g.
Désactivated : my 3g, wifi, localisation for a better battery level. My emails are checking just every hour by option.
Results : 100% at 8 A.m , 20% at 7 P.m ...
The battery are very drain...
with rom 2.15.50 it is the same
rom i have use : xmob 1.3 / 1.4 , moonlight ... and.. it is the same problem.

Same issue here. It's about 60mA battery drain, guess something wrong in power management.
You've most likely forgot to disable bluetooth completley. There is a 60mA BT bug in some roms.
bluetooth is off, but the battery running time is still bad. What Radio Rom is definitely the best ?

2.12.50 with the battery tweak found in the development subforum gives me over a day with moderate to heavy usage (games, 3G internet, 3 e-mail [email protected] min, 30 min. voice calls). In standby (only mail sync on) I get 10-12% battery drop over the night.
Wait for a few recharge cycles and it will settle. At first I got 12-15 hrs. After 2 weeks it got MUCH better.
is your batter being charged propperly?
The battery tweak sets the full level for the battery.
you must first charge the battery to its maximum level then run the reg tweak
Now here is the problem, WP7 on our HD2 will not charge the full batter all of the time. Quite often you must charge until it goes green, then reboot and charge so more, keep repeating until the HTC battery tool reports the ACR level roughly the same as the FULL level.
to give you an idea
Ive just charged my phone over night, it says its full, it wont charge any more but the tool reports it only half full, even though the indicator shows full. But my battery life will drop like a rock and may report being empty when its not.
If i restart my phone just now the tool shows a jump in ACR value to about 800mAh it then allows me to charge the remaining 400mAh.
or you might find that restarting it shows the battery is full in both indicator and ACR value
The point is, after a full charge, restart the phone because until you do the phone doesnt appear to know whats goig on wth the battery, im guessing this is something to do with the fact that the HD7 and HD2 DO have some small differences inside.
I think what frustrates me more than anything else is the sheer unpredictability of my battery performance. I have done all the tweaks and installed the battery tool but overnight in the past week I have seen the battery go down as low as about 15-20% and remain as high as 80% with a range in between (estimated values, of course).
I'm now going to try to look at my data usage to see if anything is causing the radio to work extra hard some nights and not on others.
If it was at least consistent I could then start thinking about Radio versions, management strategies and the like but while it's so variable it a bit hard to get scientific with it...!
indeed it is a bit of a pain but remember we were never ment to have this ROM.
remember though it might be unpredictable because its not full, its not as easy as it sems to get a full charge, even when htc battery tool and MS tells us its full it might not be, persistant restart and charge usually gets it done
It is definitely battery problem exists! Don't try to hide it because all that stuff you are talking here to solve that is not working! Test in 2G network without any BT and WiFi during 24h failed, battery completely drained without reason.

The big one is you shouldnt have WP7 on your HD2, our device was not supported, you cant say the HTC HD7 is the same because it is not, largely it is yes, but internally it has differences, one of these differences seem to be the controler for the battery
To be clear, WP7 cant report the correct battery level without tweaking it, and in some instances WP7 will not completely charge your phone but it may appear full there by leading to quick battery drainage
I second that. I think it's the matter of hit and miss. I have two hd2s, and one of them has ****e battery life. Both are using the same rom, same radio, same battery optimisation technique btw.
I bought an HD7 cause of the battery drainage of WP7 HD2, multi touching, downloading from market e.t.c!
I know HD2 is better than HD7 because you can have everything but... WP7 is my thing ya know??? So if you guys liked WP7 just go out there and buy your selves an official WP7 device! Believe me i l.o.v.e it and i will stick with it!

Worse recommendation I ever saw. When first android port was released, there was huge battery drainage too but now I'm using android on my HD2 with 3 days batt life and I didn't buy new android device. So it can be fixed without wasting money.
In my opinion..Android is boring.. I know that battery life on Android HD2 is awesome but the OS is very Boring... When i flashed WP7 i said "this will be my daily OS" (i love simplicity..)... At that time i needed to charge my battery daily and i was a little bored of the hard keys and battery and stuff like that! (also i had some lost pixels on the screen) Didn't wanted to go back to Android though! So why do i have to keep my boring HD2??? Since i wanted to run WP7 as a daily OS i got my new HD7 (for 150Euro)

for me wp7 is boring until now. almost no customization.. when you want to turn off data or wifi or bt you have to navigate through 2 or 3 menus.
and it is slow even though there are beautiful animations. (contacts open in about 2 seconds and in android it is about 0,5 seconds)
i am all for simplicity as long as you have all functions and speed.
btw battery is enough for 1 day with moderate use but forget using it from early morning and a long partynight
(camera issue still a bummer)

Im sorry but i have not seen a more fluid and resposive device then the HD2 with WP7, iphone, android on various models even WP7 on other devices dont appear as quick as mine but thats the luck of the draw with using our HD2 some folk have had issues others think its amazing. contacts for me, around 200ish load instantly

I'm not agree. You didn't notice that "super simple" WM7 consuming more energy than "boring" android? And what a point of this?
You know what, rich people always bored. I got my first iphone (3gs) just 3 month ago, and HD2 was like a gift from my friends in America.
Some hints:
1) Flash Bi-Winning V2. Not V3 as I found the V2 has better battery, and V3 doesn't have too many advantages.
2) Keep brightness at low or medium-low. I doubt you need to ever put it on high. If you really want to be smart, use a brightness widget. (the one from curvefish works well
3) Try to have little to no widgets on homescreen. If you must have widgets, use trusted/well-reviewed ones. I installed a clock widget and it drained my battery in 9 hours.
If the above still does not work, then continue. If you are feeling you are getting great battery life, then continue. NOTICE: One major reason why people are getting poor battery life is too much tinkering. After seeing other people are getting better battery life, they try to flash new kernels/modems/roms/etc... and it turns out the new is worse than the old. Then they go and complain. SUMMARY: If you are feeling you have good battery life, then leave it. You should only worry if you do not get at least 12 hours on VERY LIGHT usage. (5 phone calls lasting 10 minutes, Checking emain every 30 minutes. Having fetch for 10 minutes, not push. No widgets, no music, no games etc...
4) If you still do not have good battery with biwinning v2 flash the BALI UV kernel.
5) If you still do not have good battery, try other kernels. Kernel is the one that mainly controls battery.
6) Do you live in an area with poor reception? Try a modem that has good signal-getting abilities. Searching/switching drains battery.
7) If you still do not have good battery, try other roms.
8) If you still do not have good battery, then there is something seriously wrong. Either you are using the phone too heavily (gps etc...) or your battery is worn down. Get a stock replacement.
9) If you are here then just get a extended battery. There must be something wrong with your phone, so either exchange phone or get extended battery. If you do not want buldge get a 1600 or 1650 mah battery.
10) If you are here then throw your phone of a cliff and get this:

NOTE: EVERYONE'S battery life will vary based on usage and other factors.
That said, I am getting 30 hours usage with 50% left. 20 minutes of gaming, 8 phone calls, checking email.
YOUR tips aren't going to work for EVERYONE else.
Everyone's phone is unique, they use it differently, at different times, it depends on what YOU do.
If your gonna use your phone for HD Graphic games 24/7 its not gonna last 10 hours its common sense.
If your so worried about your battery then you know you should turn off GPS/Blue Tooth/ Turn down Brightness.
It's all common sense.
What i don't like you did was firstly, single out ONE ROM for having the best battery, depending on your usage.
Truthfully, i get 2 days of battery on CM7. I don't use my phone to play games and **** not all the time at least, text, phone, music, news , and browsing is what i use it for.

If your gonna use your phone for HD Graphic games 24/7 its not gonna last 10 hours its common sense.
If your so worried about your battery then you know you should turn off GPS/Blue Tooth/ Turn down Brightness.
It's all common sense.
What i don't like you did was firstly, single out ONE ROM for having the best battery, depending on your usage.
Truthfully, i get 2 days of battery on CM7. I don't use my phone to play games and **** not all the time at least, text, phone, music, news , and browsing is what i use it for.

Seriously, battery life has to be the #1 topic or complaint on every Android forum about every ROM, Kernel,or Modem. Thx for the tips krackers and everyone else who tried to find a way to conserve battery on these life sucking smartphones we have now days. Also, you're right xriderx66 "EVERY VIBRANT IS DIFFERENT" no matter how you look at it. What works for one person won't work for the other. By now we all should know the basics of batt. conservation, like what to turn off / remove and to o/c or not to o/c and of course the biggest battery drainer which is how long the screen is on or how bright u have it.
My point that I'm trying to make and that I had made on other forums (which alot of people didn't care about) its that we have these phones that could do so much but we constantly trying to conserve battery so we take the goodness out of the damm phones. I wanna have all the widgets I want running, I wanna have my brightness to 100% so I could see it well in the sun, I wanna have my bluetooth on all the time so I dont need to pull my phone out and dirty it at work. I wanna have either my wifi or data on all day cuz ant any given moment I wanna listen to Pandora, go on you-tube, or browse the web without having to switch this **** on or off, I wanna have my phone running like 95% of other Android user who don't even know what the hell a ROM or Kernel is but don't worry about tweaking this or that like we do so they enjoy their phones even though it kills their batteries.
So how do I do it??? Simple.... I went on eBay. I got three t959 batteries for $12 total (with s&h).I got a t959 battery charger for $3.50 total. I got a wall and car charger set for my phone for $5 total. Now I got a phone charger at home,work, and car. I got a battery charger for all my batteries. I got three fully charged x-tra batteries ready to swap whenever I need to (and not the 3500mah cuz I dont like my phone fat). All that for $20.50. That is how much it cost me to stop being obsessed with my battery life and to fully enjoy my phone. I think alot of you out there should think about doing the same so you're not obsessed with battery life. ENJOY YOUR PHONE PEOPLE
I bought my HD2 used and the battery doesn't really get me through the whole school day, (8-4:30ish) even if I don't really do anything on it, it drains pretty quickly. I've conditioned it and everything, but I think the best things to do would be to buy a new battery.
I'd like to buy from eBay or a reputable online retailer.
Does anyone have any great stories with any batteries?
Make sure out have the apps Juice Defender Pro, Screebl, and SetCpu (with a profile to run the processor at the minimum when screen is off). With these, plus official extended battery, I get between 24 and 36 hours on my HD2.

go on ebay and there's a seller called c_cell he's got (737177) feedback,he has a 2430mah battery,NOT the extended 1 lol,same size as the origional(1300mah),i bought 1 off him a month ago,WELL IMPRESSED...................let me know how u get on
is that e_cell? for the battery not c_cell?

yeh sorry,its e_cell lol,battery is around 50% better i'd say,just my opinion,it will vary cos different ppl use different roms & sd cards
There is a lot of complain on Gold battery from e_cell on xda. Anyone else get good result from this product?

I use Typhoon CM7 NAND Android on my HD2 and I get easily through 2.5-3 days with moderate use (WiFi included) - my avg stand by is 2-3mA but sometimes it even goes to 1mA (rarely but it does).
You shld get rid of wm if you have it and make your HD2 worth it!!!!
I bought a battery which shoul have 1600 mAh but so big like the normal HTC battery with 1230 mAh.
I didn't feel that I had more capacity, it didin't hold longer than with the normal one.
So i bought the original HTC HD2 Power Battery with 2400mAh and it was awesome. I could easy work with the phone for 2 days without loading and i make a lot with it.
The disadvantage of the Power Battery is that its nearly twice as big as with the normal, but i love it to work with the phone without looking on the battery percentage
If want long work time and size does not matter - original with 2400mAh. And no "chinese" batteries with increased capacity.

I'm not doubting that that's an excellent battery, but when you got the 0mA reading you appeared to be charging the phone and 2 days isn't really that hard to manage if you only use the phone moderately. Also don't forget that the ROM itself will have some effect on the results.
