OK... being used to Nokia I just want to double check something before I do it... This is how I would upgrade a memory card on the Nokia.
If I load my SD card into a reader or mount it on my Mac desktop via the USB cable, then copy its contents to a folder... will I be able to just copy the contents back (keeping the directory structure in place) to a new card and everything will work as normal but I get more free space on the new larger capacity card.
I will of course format the new card in the Hero before copying back.
Also, is it OK to rename the card currently in the Hero ?
Its called NO NAME and so is my Windows partition... I get confused Will it confuse the Hero to rename the card ?
cheers
The OS your working on deals with putting the files correctly into the file system of the card so don't worry.
And I wouldn't think the hero should rename the card.
Thx.
And I mean not the Hero renaming the card, me renaming it... will the Hero balk at the name change ?
My HD2 came with a 2GB SD card with various stuff pre-installed particularly Co-Pilot which I haven't tried yet but intend to. I'm planning on purchasing a larger SD card at some point.
My question: What would be the best way to transfer what's already on the 2GB card to a new card?
Thanks for any/all suggestions.
ensure you are showing all system and hidden files, then drag everything off your old card, drag everything to your new card, job done.

Thx for the reply.
When you say - drag everything off your old card, drag everything to your new card. - I would have to copy everything off the old card and store it on the phone somewhere until I insert the new card, then paste over to the new card? Is that what you mean?

no, do it from the pc. Either use a card reader if you have one, or connect the phone to usb in hard disk mode, browse to it, select everything, drag (cut, paste, copy, however you preffer) into a folder on your desktop.
Swap the cards over, reconnect the phone with new card in, and reverse the process.

Thank you much appreciated. I now see what you mean.
no worries. Dont forget to show hidden and system files.
When you insert the new card into the HD2 and switch it on again - will it be automatically formatted? If not, or if you do it using the PC's card reader - what format is expected? FAT32? Thanks!
it will probably be formatted already, but i always format them myself, FAT32, just to be sure. If you are planning on playing with android on nand, you probably want to set up an EXT partition now, before you copy anything onto the card.
Up 2 now, I even have no idea what this nand thing is and how i recognize it if it stands beside me at a traffic light... Nope, I'll just use the FAT32 option, although I'd never do that on a windows system. But NTFS seems to not be an option for android, right?
i purchaced a bigger sd card 2 replace my old 1. so to swap it over do i just copy everything from the old sd card n transfer it to the new one, to get it working properly?
Yes that would be enough i guess. And dont forget to copy the hidden files also which include the CDAInfo.txt .
Sorry, but another basic question which I've searched for the answer but can't find an answer that makes sense to me.
I have an x8 running on Gingerdx v010. Runs great.
I have just been given a 8gb Micro SD Card, Class 10.
What's the best way to go about swapping the stock sd card with this new one - do i just copy and paste all off the old sd card onto my desktop, and then copy all that back to the new sd card?
Or do I need to partition the card in any special way?
I'm a beginner at this, so please don't get too technical!
I'd like to put some music on the new card, and I reckon i've got a few GB of albums etc to put on it. also, will probably try to put as much as possible on it to make sure there's plenty of available RAM in the internal memory.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
This is a really useful site - glad I found it.

bump... anyone?
Backup copy/move all the files in old sdcard to PC. Insert your new sdcard and boot, enter CWM>advanced option>partition sdcard>select 512mb>then zero swap. reboot. Then copy/move ur files to new sdcard You can also partition using windows You just need partition if you are installing many apps like me
Partitioning is not required, just copy data over from old card to new card.
i just bought a 16GB card, i moved every thing from the old 1 to this new 1 but not every files were moved and it seems to me that im not doing it right.
can some 1 please tell me what to do to be able to move everything on my old SD card to my new 1
thank you very much

IF you have partitioned your SDcard you will either need a special program or need to use a Mac or Linux computer to copy the second partitioned section.
If you are using one partition just copy everything from the SD card to your Computer, then from the computer to the new SD card.
Remember to make hidden files and folders visible in Windows before you attempt copying, and move all the apps that reside on SD back to the phone's internal memory (if left on SD, their encrypted files might not work after copying).
sorry, im not really good with this stuff
if you dont mind, could you give me more detail instruction,
thank you

He is saying
1.Make sure that Hidden Files & Folders are show on your PC.If not, appy it under My Computer>Tools>Folder Option
2.Connect your old sd card to your pc via a memory card reader or you can do it via Data Storagr mode on your phone using data cable.
3.Open old sd card(show as a drive on your pc) & select all the files on the sd card including hidden files too.
4.Copy selected files(whole files on the old sd card,ok) & paste it on somewhere pc your pc.
5.Now remove old sd card & insert new sd card to the card reader. Then open it.
6.Now move that old sd files to the new sd card.
That's all!
