Hi all, first of all i'd like to say you're all doing an amazing job!
Basically I have a HTC HD2 ROM with the T-Mobile UK stock ROM.
This ROM has been tweaked (made worse) by T-Mobile, for example removing YouTube and turning Opera into Web'n'Walk.
The issue is that T-Mobile disallows us to download the ROM's from the official HTC website because T-Mobile need to re-release this ROM with its restrictions. The problem is that 4 months after the first ROM release, and newer versions constantly appearing, T-Mobile has not even released one newer ROM version for us to download. I was wondering how/if I could download a ROM from here and if this would make the phone stop working? I am aware this will void my warranty but this isn't of a great concern to me.
I am mostly concerned that I will no longer be able to send messages and make phone calls with T-Mobile if I download a cooked ROM.
My ROM is version 1.43.110.2 (70315) WWE
Thanks, Cristian
hey...
I had the same rom as you (tmobile uk upgrade)
I have flashed about 8 roms so far so no worries there
HSPL
Hi mate I bought mu HD 2 from my friend T-MOBILE ugrade 350 £ btw and a just use HSPL after install official rom 1.66 radio too and now just testing cooked ROM and got no problemas at all ! And I am oringe customer fast internet perfect signal almost everywhere ...
Goodluck
Hi thanks for your responses that was really fast
I've seen that I can download HSPL from XDA so there's no problem there i'll follow the instructions posted.
So once I install the HSPL I can simply download the ROM from the HTC Website?
I was just worried that installing a new ROM would clear the settings set by T-Mobile such as text messaging and making calls? If this is the case then is there any way to restore them?
Thanks again
Your sim card contains all the data needed for the phone to set up data and sms and the like.
If it doesnt, there are hundreds of threads on how to manually enter data connections.(2 minute job)
Thanks for your reply, I have just installed the HSPL.
When I enter my serial number into the HTC website it says it is invalid (this is because of T-Mobile) Do you know how can I work around this?
I'm really sorry for all the questions I'm new at this
bump bump bump
Thats because your serial is still invalid, even though you installed HSPL.It always will be.
Go to the official roms thread in the rom development section,
first post, first link. Look through the folders for the rom you want. (I suspect you want the 1.66 folder, look for the wwe rom.)
I have just updated to official ROM 1.66 from this website
I am able to make and send both calls and texts but the Internet connection is no longer working. How do I attain these settings?
T-Mobile UK
Please help
Many thanks
fisrt - go to settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup.
Run that.
If that doesnt do it,
settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - and in the mobile web settings set up a new data connection, using the data you find HERE
Also worth looking in start menu, scroll to end, have a look for a branded 'sim card' style icon, probably called just 'T Mobile' that is put there by your sim card. Give that a try.
There is no sim card style icon or any t-mobile related in the start menu
I have typed those settings, twice, the phone connects successfully to the network, but only for a minute before disconnecting. It simply keeps disconnecting after a minute or so
t mo put a proxy in with their settings
settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - tap manage existing connection - jump to the proxy tab and untick 'this connection proxy blablah'
Give that a try.
that doesnt work either, any ideas?
Very odd that it should connet and then disconnect a minute or so later. It isn;t just closing because it's idle, is it? Can you surf while its active?
thanks for all your help by the way
i dont think so because its not idle, it stops midway while being used.
i had to recover my phone using microsoft my phone in chunks..
yeah i can surf but only for a little bit
very odd. Just so you can double check, here is the info as i would put it in. (Im sure you got it right, just being thorough)
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connections - add a new modem connection (in the mobile web section)
(If you want to delete your other one, choose manage existing and switch to the general tab and choose delete settings.)
enter any name you want.
line type - celular line (GPRS)
next
access point name is - general.t-mobile.uk
next
user name - user
password - wap
*** ive just read in another thread that the password is pass for contract so try that ***
domain - leave blank
lol, also just came across this
GPRS Internet service
Access point: general.t-mobile.uk
User name: user
Password: one2one
heh, sadly im not on t mo so i cant test them for you.
if you put general.t-mobile.uk into google, you will find lots of pages of info about setting up data.
im trying it with the password as 'pass'
looks promising, ill post back in a minute =]
you absolute legend it works
it didnt work at first after i changed the password
but i stumbled upon a menu in which 'automatically retrieve internet settings' was checked, so i looked back to where i typed in 'pass' and it looked like ***********.
so i unticked the box and changed the password back to pass, again
it works.
thanks so much
very very very impressed
heh winner, and no worries. On the plus side if you have to do it again it will be easy!

I am using spb backup. My recomendation- just pay for it- it's worth it. You dont want to lose all your info. And you may (probably will) have to do a hard reset one day anyway.
TIP: Save a couple of copies of your backups (non-synced folder)- two of my backup files were corrupted and didnt work when I restored the device. Had to go back a couple of days to an older file.
Good luck!
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and must say I never thought there was so much suport out there for these phones. So I would like to put my problem forward for you see if you can help me.
I have bought my GT-I5800 of a freind who has just come back from north africa, he needed the money. Anyway it was originally on T mobil but he had it unlocked over here. I am on o2 and so when I put my sim card in everything worked except for the access to the internet and the GPS.
I have a P.A.Y.G. account but do have access to the web on my old phone with a cretain amount free every month of topping up.
When I phoned o2 using my new (secondhand) phone to get the setting sent by text the chap said it was not an GT-I5800 but a maxtel. The thing is that when it starts up it shows the GT logo and the screen is the same as what i've seen on the photos, the three button style. I have found inside the phone these details:-
Model no. GT-I5800
firmware 2.2
Baseband I5800XXJH1
Kernelversion 2.3.32.9 [email protected]@#1
Build no. FROYO.XXJPB
I wanted to get the web side working and GPS although it does connect to my home router wirelessly ok and phone calls +text work ok. Any help would be most welcome.
Cheers everyone. raccoon
You need to manually set your APN (Access Point Name).
1. Google 'X APN Settings android' where X is the name of your mobile network provider (eg. t-mobile) and keep that page open.
2. Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile network -> Acces point names. Press the menu key and choose new APN
3. Add settings (name, APN,...) according to your provider
4. You should now have internet connection.
GPS is something beyond my knowledge
Cheers Thom I will try that and post back asap.

i am not being able to use the internet on my phone.when i activate the data network nothing happens.PACKET DATA (in settings>wireless>mobile network) always gets unclicked.when i click packet data to activate after sometime it gets unclicked automatically.i have tried 2 service provider connec same prob, installed stock rom, custom(indroid, lestatious, kyrillos) nothing happened.plz HELP.....
Did you use some of the APN on-off widget or apps (APNDroid or Elixir)?. I had the same problem, until I checked APNs in Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > "your default APN" (usually first one) > APN. Check if the APN name ends in either elixir or apndroid, and delete those.
no i havent used ny apn widget.i was surfing net,and suddenly this thing happened.
If your battery is miscalibrated, and phone thinks it's low, it will disable packet data. Charge your phone to 100% and use BatteryCalibration from market to calibrate it. Then see if you can enable packet data.
Or you can just get the worldwide apn list xml and throw it in your phone...and then restore defaults in the apn list. Worked for me when I flashed a new rom and lost my apn settings.
Here's how to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951214
This is netwrk provider problem..i think...coz same happens 2-3times with me too..but after some times means one or two hours its ok ...or I think you are using proxy in Apn that could be the problem too...
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
when i am trying to paste the file u provided in /etc,its showing that not enough free space.but i have lots of free space.
@devilgod
i have tried more than one service provider nd same problem persists.nd its happening frm da last 5-6days.

Hmmh... that is weird. You have rooted and made sure you have RW permissions?
i have my ph rooted..how to have r/w permission????when i open my root explorer on the top it shows "mount as r/w"
What's the name of your provider? Vodafone? Google "Vodafone apn settings india" and see if you get any results, then go to 'Access point names' (same place where everything else related to data networking is) and then press on your menu key (left of your home button) and add an APN. Now use the settings you found from google and type them into the correct fields.
i was using internet through vodafone nd suddenly this thing happened.i had created apn again nd again but nothing helped.
Odd. Go to dial pad and type *#06# to check your IMEI. Do you see zero's or actual numbers? (Whatever you see, don't post the number here)
Also, are you sure flight mode is not on? Can you use someone else's sim card to check if packet data works then?
yes my IMEI no is showing.i have tried another sim, same prob, tried stock rom same prob,,,,very unusual prob..
plz guys help me on this..i am in deep ****....
Odd.. try posting this topic to some general forum instead of our I5800 one. You'll get more publicity and answers hopefully

Yes, that is it. Click it to gain R/W permissions, then try to paste the file in the right place.
Sorry it took so long to answer. Was at a craaazy wedding.
i did the thing, paste the apn file to /etc
inside apn done reset to default.
BUT STILL THE PACKET DATA gets unclicked even after clicking.
this problem is very unusual,nd happened only to me i guess.....
Similar problem...cant get GPRS/3g to work in a custom rom... even tried copying the apn.conf file but got no positive results...
i guess it's because of the other region's firmware ...any help would b highly appreciated !!
i cannot access internet from custom rom as well as stock rom.i was surfing the net nd suddenly this thing went off,and that problem continued...
Good Evening All, (In the East Coast anyway)
I have done a lot of searching in XDA and Google and I can't seem to find too much detail aside from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935144
My question is specifically for the Verizon Retail Samsung Galaxy S5. Since we are rooted, is it possible to navigate to where the APN settings are stored so changes can be made to them despite the fact that the OS locks us out of it? I read that if you use a non Verizon SIM card, the APN settings can be altered as needed.
Does anybody know what in the OS prevents us from changing the APN settings or know if there is some kind of way to force the OS to allow us to change the APN settings? My main goal was to edit the "APN Protocol" settings to force it to use IPv4 instead of allowing the network to use either or. Applications such as Opera Max, due to the Kitkat VPN bug, won't work unless the mobile data connection is an IPv4 address.
Edit: May found found my answer / solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ates when the APN settings may be configured?
also need help with this issue i have tried everything
My fix for APN Settings SM-G900V [Verizon Galaxy S5]
Okay guys,
I figured I should post this since I can't find anything thing else online solving this issue.
It took me a couple hours of digging around and teaching myself some basic android stuff but I got APN edit access on my Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V APN settings. First, I wanted access because I switched to straight talk and found I wasn't receiving MMS's. But... Verizon locks access to APN's. I won't tell you the story of how I figured it out, I will just tell you what I did and let you make the decision to do it yourself or not AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1) Your phone must be rooted... look around online and choose your own method- it just needs to be rooted. (can't post a link, sorry)
2) install: Build Prop Editor and APN Settings apps from the App store
-----Build Prop Editor allows you to change system values
-----APN Settings is a menu shortcut that you'll need
3) From another forum, I got this information:
** This forum is written for a different phone (Note3) and so are the codes... but they should work long enough to create an APN...
a)Once [build prop editor] is installed find and open Build Prop Editor
b)Hit the menu button and select Edit
c)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
#Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
d)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen (looks like a floppy disk)
e)Once this is done saving restart the phone
----This part is where it gets weird. Adding the codes in build.prop creates menu issues so you can't navigate to the APN menu
4) open the app that you downloaded in step 2 (APN Settings), that will bypass the menu.
5) determine the APN you need to create and create it (depends on your provider, do some research) (again, can't post url links)
6) go back to build.prop.editor and delete the lines that you added in step 3 and reboot the phone
7) navigate to your APN settings via the menu, the APN you created will not be visible but it will still be there. Select the Verizon APN so you can connect your phone to 3G or 4G data.
8) Try MMS or group texts
That should be it... If you don't get MMS's go through the process again and try another APN (you may have the wrong one) or you can delete all but the factory APN's to return your phone to the way it used to be.
This worked for me and I hope it works for you too.
P.S. sorry this is a bit late in all the forums
Hello. I was able to make all the changes listed above. I am running into a problem when I change the mnc to my provider straight talk. Basically whatever apn I was attempting to modify is deleted, and I run I to the same problem when creating new apns. I can enter a name and change the apn but that's it. If I make any other changes the apn is no longer in my list.
Thanks,

Hey. So I am not too sure why you don't have permissions to edit apn settings. These are the apn settings Iaccessed and used to get it working on mine... then it is hidden when deleting the build prop codes.
Name
APN
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
APN Type
If you don't have access to create a new APN and change those settings following my method, I don't know what to say... Is your phone model a SM-G900V running android 4.4.4? - that's what mine is.
The only other thing I could think is maybe the kernel version when you rooted your phone. I have 3.4.0 and used towelroot and oden to flash it.
Also, I am using Textra as my messaging application and manually configure the APN in those settings to the same one I created.
Hate bumping old threads, but I feel it's relevant in this case. I used the above method to successfully edit the APN and regain internet access and get MMS. However, if I go to Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point names, there are none listed at all. I am not getting 4G signal on my SM-G900V running android 4.4.2.
Is there a way to get the actual vzwinternet apn to appear in that menu?

Any updated fixes for this that don't mess with the APN menu? Running Deodexed Optimal ROM and just got my S5 activated on ST. It appears that I can receive photos, but I can't use any apps without being told I have no data/network connection unless WiFi is enabled. Calls and texts appears to work fine. Can not add new APN or edit the verizon one that's in there.

I have the same problem as you with an LG G4 from Verizon on straighttalk. I had ST fix their end to get my data working. They have the Verizon APN settings saved on their server for your phone but their settings have to match your settings. Since you cannot add/edit your APN they have to delete their settings and let it pull from your phone. Verizon lets them use certain APNs for their side of the network, that is why their settings are different than your phone and why they will strongly ask you to update them (even though you cannot). I found this information out because their APN settings got updated when my service renewed. I'm not sure if this will be a problem on each renew or if Verizon/ST will work that out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 g900v. I am currently using Straight Talk BYOP program. I am having some issues with service and having 3g instead of 4g. It is a 4g capable phone. I am trying to get into the APN settings to change it up to Straight Talks Information, but it is Locked (greyed) out. Is their any way to access this? I am currently rooted and running a custom deodexed rom

I think if you search you can find info on XDA about enabling all radios for your phone. if its rooted you can try an apk like signal booster or one of those. They have advanced settings that let you select CDMA/GSM/LTE and prioritize your connection.
If you are rooted you can use coded in the dialer to access those same settings and change your connection prefs.
If I had a link I would share.

I used Ricks ROM for a base and got this working. I was able to add APNs but not take away the Verizon one. It works.

I ended up just having to call Straight Talk and they did something on their end that took effect at or around midnight that night. Problem is I had to call them again the following month because after refilling my airtime a day before cutoff I lost my data(which is weird because the new card went in to my reserve). They did something on their end that immediately took effect after a reboot of my device. I'm hoping I don't have to do this every time I refill.
Straight Talk only works for 1 month at time

I have the same problem. I have 2 Verizon Samsung S5 that I have transferred to Straight Talk. Every month for the past 4 months I lose my data signal (calls work fine) . I have to call ST tech support and spend between 15 - 45 minutes (depending on how knowledgeable the tech person is) to get it reset so it works. Each phone does this on a different day so I have to do this twice a month. :crying:
They reset the provisioning on their end. Then I power off and reboot and it works for another month. Does anyone know what I have to set the APN to to fix this problem?
When I used the method in this thread and take the lines out of the build.prop, Only Verizon Internet shows under the APN. Do I need to add a ST APN and not comment out the lines?
I know this is old, but I can't find any way to edit apn settings for my nougat phone on straight talk through verizon towers. Nothing works, even with root.

Thanks,
I know this is really old, but if someone is searching for the unable to edit APN for a Verzion phone, I have a fix.
Connect the phone for ADB debugging. Then open ADB shell and use the command:
am start -a android.intent.action.INSERT content://telephony/carriers --ei simId -1
It won't let you edit the current one or list, but you can add a new one now, and use it. Just reboot the phone after the new APN is in place.
