[Q] So why did you buy a htc wildfire? - Wildfire General

Why did you choose a wildfire?

To make developing for it easier

Because its so sexy + I was cheap and wanted to test out android without buying an expensive phone and killing it, only to realise that using and modding android is easy and fun.
And the battery life is awesome

Because I couldn't afford a desire!

Because I've always loved the look of android and htc phones in particular but could never afford one, or, it was the tattoo with a resistive(ew) screen, until the wildfire.

i want a cheap nice looking android which i can root and do near the same things i can do with my G1

It is good looking, have a good battery life and HTC

THIS. I was short on cast and I wanted a smartphone.

First Android phone, read alot about the O/S beforehand.
Had a Nokia E51 before this. (brilliant phone, probably one of the top 5 EVER!)
Cheap phone. Except for the display and processor, no differences from the Desire, which, compared hand-in-hand, seemed too big.

Because I wanted to have a small Androidphone. Desire was way to big for me and I always liked small phones. And yes money. I wanted a small cheap and still good working phone and the best is the wildfire

I had a Nokia E52 before WF, hehe. HTC Wildfire is aleso my first HTC and android phone and i'm loving it, with all the rooting and flashing and messing around. I love this phone!

I bought a HTC Wildfire 2weeks ago for my wife for 190 pounds onebay. Reason : she wanted a phone with gps capabilities. What i have noticed so far is the battery that resist wirhout charging more then 2days. Thats the only plus i must say. Minus : rezolution of display, prety bugy ( i was expected for more, since it runs on 2.1). Without wanted to upset anybody i think that i did bad deal, considering that i paid 210 pounds for my x10(witch is stil on1.6 but feels mutch more smoothly...probebly due to more powerfull hardweare ). In conclusion i think it offers to litle to justify the price (there are on the market more capables devices for the low entry segment). Anyway once you boughtit you tend to forghet the shortcomings and will end up loving it for what it has.
Cheers

My reason - a year before I had the wildfire I thought it would be a good idea to get a lg cookie which I then hated. The reason I got the wildfire is because I wanted an android phone, but nothing too expensive since I take my wildfire to school.

Try downloading a task manager and going to apps then press kill all.
-disable wireless
-turn off bluetooth
-turn off auto sync
-turn off gps satellites
-turn off 'use my location'
Also do as kevin said.

why is everyone experiencing so much different battery life lol, i don't even need a task manager xD.

Why do you love your Hero?

Let's list reasons.
1) I can hold it in my left hand and not drop a call.
2) its virtually unbrickable .....
3. Overall Bad-Ass-Ness
it was a badass phone 8 months ago...its a badass phone now... its a badass phone a year from now
It's the phone that got me into Android and rooting. It will always have a special place in my heart.
4. It's small to carry around and still does everything the other bigger bricks do.
my first android phone..and love it....way easier to customize than windows mobile..and everything just works.. To me its a spiritual successor to the vogue.. my last fav.. outside of the dust problem..its been a perfect phone.. and with my seidio 3500 extended battery.. and leather htc case.. its even better..
The evo is nice...but too big..would rather have something around the 3.7 inch screen size.. I always get a extended battery.. and putting a 3500 on the evo would just be too much to carry..u know!!
Would be like when i had the the ppc-6700 and siedio 3200 mah batt. and snap on case and holster.. man that was like a beast.. people always asked wth is that on your belt.lol
I can customize the bajebuse out of it

Wow not the way I expected this thread to go, but that's cool. My first post was a jab at Apple
I caught it. Well played.
It is hard to stay on task and bang Apple when we get to talk about how GREAT our Heroes are

Agreed but it's still disappointing that most of them left. I was hoping there would be some big flaw with the evo so they would crawl back to the hero.
The hero is a nice phone but lately ive been getting a bit bored with it.
It surprises me every week with new things it can do. It runs SlingPlayer, It is my internet at my vacation home, it currently has Froyo on it. She's just a pretty girl that never says no to anything, don't we all want that??
How many other phones can you customize to be the baddest phone around and carry your wishlist with you?
"Oh, man. My Hero can't do that...oh wait...let me check my SD card....*flash*.....Now it can.
I actually own it (to keep with the theme of the first post)
*it's brought so many together
*it still has things to teach me about Android and Linux in general even after months of owning it

Is it worth getting this phone?

Atm i got nokia n97 white and i am about to change phone, is it good trade to give my nokia n97 for wildfire?
I want from wildfire users to tell me more about phone pls, i know resi is issue
Now with CynaogenMod 6, H*LL YEAH!
I had the N97 before as well. Disadvanages of Wildfire are imho the screen resolution, battery and camera quality. Advantages of Wildfire are: dimensions (of the phone), display (excluding resolution), customizability, and apps.
In my opinion the Wildfire pros outweigh the cons. Go in a shop and try it for some minutes. And then don't forget that you can improve your experience with apps and custom roms!

thx for info guys but i think i am about to get legend not too much higher price but res is imo better .)
dont buy this phone. low screen resolution= many good apps not available on market. gaming suck. not able to play 3d games. the updates also suck like Nokia. I have been waiting for froyo update for month but nothing until today. somebody say it will release this month every month but until now I still have 2.1 not 2.2. I m soon gonna dump this phone. I suggest u get mid-end android phone. not low-end phone like wildfire. I regret that I bought this phone

I'd rather get the desire over legend, better value for money. As for wildfire, few 2.2 custom runs available already. Makes the phone awesome.

You wanna dump it? I`ll buy it for 50$.
It`s a good phone if you know what you are getting yourself into. If you drool all over the HTC Desire reviews and head to the store and buy a Wildfire, of course you`ll be disappointed. But if you want a low, medium- class smartphone that`s easy on the pocket then go for the Wildfire.
Oh, and how much time do you spend playing on the phone, really now? do you really need the 3d games? I have only 2d games on my wildfire and I`m having a bloody good time for the 10 minutes a week I`m playing on it.
If you want 3d games and play a whole lot of them, then go buy a PSP, this way you`ll have battery left in your phone to make a god-damn call.

i probly sell it to get mid end phone. not only 3d games, some good apps also not availabe on market like, camera 360, mixzing. i had spend a lot of time to "enhance" my wildfire, but still not satisfied (im greedy man). i had a psp but it not all the time with me. so i play games on my wildfire when i left my psp. i m not saying this phone suck. it just dont suit me. i bought this phone bcoz it cheap n my first android phone. i m not expecting low screen resolution had many disadvantages. good for u it suit u.
you can use the patched market to get those apps, and no the roms aren't really that buggy at all, well for me, i've tried them all, and so far, the only problem with CM6 is the default android phone dialer layout, but i use dialer one instead, so it's all fine.
@kevin thanks. i will search for the patched market...nway, i believe those apps are not shown on the non-patched market because the hardware limitation. is it save to install it? about the custom rom, i never tried them..i thought it was buggy from the post on the thread

Thoughts on the Aria

I'm switching back to AT&T and selling the HD2, and it turns out they are having a promo right now to where the Aria is free. What are your thoughts on it? How is the modding community? Will I feel like I'm downgrading from the HD2?
I appreciate any thoughts on the phone.

You'll definitely be downgrading on screen size. But thats really about it. This little phone definitely holds its own in every other department. As far as modding goes, the ROM selection is limited but what few ROMs we have are very well developed. We've got some very experienced developers here that are always working on ways to improve the Aria experience so I dont think you'll be dissapointed at all as long as you can get over the screen size issue.
It is definitely a strong phone, but I wish I'd gotten the captivate simply for the size of the screen. If screen size is not an issue I would definitely recommend it. It's a scrappy little phone that's definitely worth the money.

I was using my V3xx (last of the good RAZR phones, IMO - before they started screwing up the design), up until I got my Aria a few days ago
I was using HD2 too, and upgraded to Aria and I am happy with it.
It's nice and little, no pocket hassel. It's screen res is 320x480, same as iPhone 3GS
Honesty its a great lil phone as far as developmemt on its kind of limited compared to ur hd2 dev.. otuer than that it does the job...

The screen is literally the only good thing about the captivate. My wife got hers a couple weeks ago and she hates it more and more every day and shes finally just gonna upgrade to an aria after comparing my aria to her captivate. The display is amazing but the phone was very glitchy and laggy out of the box. We've tried a couple different roms and they just can't compare in quality and reliability to what we have with the aria. attn1 has made this phone the best choice from att at the moment. Samsung makes a great display, but they do not make a good phone. Htc makes solid reliable phones and they def did it right when they made this lil monster. Get an ipad for christmas and be glad you chose the aria as a phone over the captivate lol .

Glad I saw this, I just got an Aria and was about to get the HD2 but thought the screen size might be too big for carrying it in my pocket, this makes me think I made the right decision. Thanks!
I love this phone. I haves friend with the 1ghz processer and belive it or not it isn't any faster. It may be due to the Res and screen size but the aria is pretty damn fast with the 600mhz in it. Battery life isn't to bad either. Its small but not to small

On battery life, I dont know about everyone else, but I use my phone everyday I would say a decent amount. I charge at night and never get below 50 percent

[Q] DesireHD vs HD2? worth the upgrade?

I currently have HD2, but could upgrade to DesireHD, but I'm unsure what will that get me.
They're pretty similar all in all.
DesireHD has pretty abysmal audio quality over the headphones, but I could not find much about HD2 headphones performance.
Other than that, I DesireHD should get me a bit more battery, cpu, ram and 3 extra mp for the cam (I find all HTC cams meh, so not much of a feature for me).
Of those things I'm most interested in the battery life
I found no use for more ram with android, as the OS keeps closing apps (browsers) no matter what (I miss the real multitasking of winMo).
If you have any comments/suggestions, fire away.
Don't go for such a miniscule trade up. Stick with the HD2 which, as you said, is pretty much the same as the DHD and wait until you get an opportunity to trade in for something like a SGS2 or Sensation. That's just my personal opinion, though.
I already have bouth....battery off desire hd really sucks

Though you might want to check your apps/background ****, half a day is too low.
Check your standby power draw.
To others, yeah, seems to be too small a difference between them.
Mostly sound/battery would entice me.
But I'll wait for the Sensation/Evo 3D prices to come down.
The reason I asked is I got a pretty good offer for my HD2, but don't wanna splurge for a phone that'll soon go down in price.
BTW any other HTC phone I should take a look at?
Aside from the CPU being a gen 2 snapdragon, there is little else of note better inside the desire hd. Ideally you should be looking at an HTC Sensation.

Wouldn't recommend HTC Legend

This is a really bad phone for anyone looking for an Android/HTC phone.
It's slow, imposs to root and has such a small screen.
AVOID.
PS, get yourself a HTC Desire S, beast of a phone.

Both legend's cpu, gpu are too slow for me even cpu is overclocked
And not enough ram is also a big problem
Launcher is killed after web browsing or playing games
Waiting for the Nexus Prime, and dont want to get a slow phone again.....
I find the legend to be a great phone. Not the fastest phone but it gets the job done in a small metallic package. I'm afraid we will not see to many 3.2 inch phones in the future...the trend is really big displays now. I guess i'll just have to settle with 3.7 inch.

Guys, this Phone is 1,5 years old. It´s just outdated.
Although, Htc built it for Design Users, not for Power Users. Legend has one of the best looking case of all phones.
Just changed to HTC sensation, which also has a unibody frame, last week.

I love my Legend, It's better than my wifes Wildfire and more stylish than the other phones. Best of all, it's mine and I can do what I want too it and it does what I require just as well as my friends Desire HD or sensation, the difference is theirs is a bit quicker
HTC need to come out with the Legend S in a few months, I think it should have these specs: 4.3"/4.5" screen, 2Ghz quad core, 1Gb Ram, 32Gb on board with SD slot for more, along with the usual wifi/BT/Radio etc
That'll make it a Legendary phone

Darn you all
Problem with being in Canada is that it's one of the most expensive countries for a cell phone plan in the world. We don't have 2-year contracts, our max is 3. And if you try to land on a 1- or 2-year committment, it wouldn't be as economically wise as to buy it outright, which I did, but regret.
Wildfire S here is $250, Galaxy Gio is $70, Legend was bought for $400. Oh noes. So that means I'll be lugging this device here for another year after you all move on (it's no-contract, but it's the prime time where I actually earn enough cash to actually spend it on another mobile device).
Unless, you know, I win the lottery.
I disagree. Legend is a great phone.
Do not think rooting a Legend is hard challenge. The custom ROMs are also very good.
Not to mention the design - the aluminium block is one of the best smartphone exterior I have ever seen!
And the display size - it's not the biggest in the smartphone portfolio, but it's still pocket size, which I think is great. After all, I want phone, not tablet for my jeans..
I've had my Legend for 10 months now, Best ruddy phone I've ever owned, I've owned about 12-13 phones over the past 10 years, this one is the best, "for me". It may not be the fastest phone, it may not have the most memory, it may not have the biggest screen, it doesn't have a dual core, but thats fine by me.
When I got my phone, I really loved HTC sense, Eclair and Froyo, which I loved even more, how ever, now that I have rooted my phone and seen what's out there in the way of alternative roms, I must now admit, the stock HTC with sense rom really lets this phone down, hell, Blay0's rooted version of Froyo is awesome.
My opinion is at the end of the day, the hardware is great and it really all comes down to the ROM, and the stock HTC is a bit of a fail....
Oh BTW, the physical size of the Legend is also a winner for me, my wife has a desire HD, ruddy thing doesn't even fit in my hand comfortabily!
I have my Legend over a year and its (except a small screen) the realy legend! its survived a lot of thig, with a two scratches only on the body.
now i have HD2, and now take care to not fall even with two feet :S
Legend isn't bad, it's just an old mid-range phone ...
it has everything I need for my daily activities in addition to handy size.
I don't need anything better for now.
