- do you use task manager? if not ... consider one ?
- also. did you try to restart the phone ? like.. something might be eating your ram ?
also. its well known fact that android after while gets slower for some reason. its software problem i think.
when you install fresh rom. its omg fast. when u start adding stuff to it. it starts to suck

Not if you keep clearing your cache.
This will probably fix your problem. Cache Cleaner is available free on the market.

The only issue with CacheCleaner is it requires Root.
If you have not rooted your phone then you can get hold of 'Quick App Clean Cache' but it's not free.
Works fine for me though.
True. You can acquire root temporarily (until the next boot) with Visionary available on the market
Any SGS owners here? How is this lag compared to the well known lag on the SGS?
For me, once it's up and running and I've killed what I want to kill, this is smooth as butter... 100+ apps installed too.
A simple reboot usually sorts it - i noticed a slow down but then its back like new after the reboot
one thing i have noticed is that the handset is slower when i use the switch off (which then when i switch back on boots really quick) ... ive ended up leaving mine on cos i dont think the switch off is quite the switch off it should be ,,,
iv just tried visionary and it says that usb debugging has to be enabled ... cant see this in the setup menu (was a tab on desire within computer setup(
can anyone help please ?
cancel above found it !!!
superb fast phone again
Only lag I got was when using task killer, phone is much better without one as far as I'm concerned, let Android do it's thing, it's Froyo baby!
Mine slowed down this morning so I uninstalled a couple of programs that I had installed this morning and all is fine again! I guess one of them was having issues.

Hi guys!
I'm experiencing a serious problem with my X10: Using the stock camera app causes (50% and more of times) a reboot of the device
I'm still stuck with the R1FA016 firmware (Spanish, Movistar) and i thougt this could be the problem since nobody seems to have a so bad experience
Today i tried the Vignette app on the market and the bug is still there... what could be the problem?
Thank you.

I know it is painful, but have you tried formatting the device (restore factory settings)?

If you're using a task killer, check out you are not killing any camera app.
No i'm not killing camera app... (anyway, atk is set to kill apps every half hour)
I just formatted the phone and the bug seems to be still here... rebooting occours even if, in Mediascape i try to view taked photos!!!

Then, try one more thing: uninstall ATK, reboot the phone and let it handle the RAM as it is supposed to.
Perhaps ATK is the culprit! I know it caused me a great deal of problems in the past, until I finally realised that task managers do more harm than good on android operating systems.
@sleepyManX1
the update is out already try OTA update......
I also tried to insert photo app and some services (such as facerecognition) in atk ingore list... the bug is still here
So i'm trying this way: disable atk from autostart...

I've tried a lot of task killers/managers and at the end something started not to work properly. Since i don't use them everything is always ok! I recommend not to use them!!
Hi guys!
Any suggestion about this issue?
(I restored factory settings again and did not install any task manager/killer... still the bug is here )
Try to re-install firmaware using SEUS Wish you all the best
Yes... seems to be the only way... and i think i will flash the phone with a generic italian firmware... maybe the problem is in the movistar brand...
I just need a windows pc... (i've a ppc ibook... so no virtualization possible!)

I also have this problem with my desire, apparently after a search in XDA, problem exists in Nexus one (which is like HTC desire anyway) and HTC G1, G2.
seems no solution yet, I flashed my phone and installed the latest radio and a custom rom, still no solution.
hope someone can fix it
sleepyman x1 i too am on the same firmware as u and get the exact same problem im on three network uk, iv tried everything and nothing seems to solve it,,,, the only thing iv found that helps the camera bot up next time is when finished using the camera is to press the back button to exit camera mode and not to use the home button,
hope this is some help to you,

I also have "reboot" problem, but my phone reboots random - sometimes when I use Google Maps, sometimes when finish phone call, even sometimes when the phone is idle. I tried factory reset several times, updated to latest firmware (currently R2BA026) but no luck.
These days I will go to my local SE support center, I have no choice ...

This would be nice in the thread I made! Some people, like myself might not be convinced that a reset can fix a lot of problems (besides the GPS related ones) and need a little extra convincing.

I've been contemplating on doing a full reset.
@kolyan, did you keep the stock GPS settings or did you change it out after the reset? I'm curious....
Can you list other improvements you've noticed?
All I can say about this is I wiped my phone to prep it for exchange tomorrow, since some were reporting success with different phones. I was having horrid gps issues. Navigate, pre-wipe was taking 5 minutes or more, before it locked and stopped searching for gps. When I tried it after the wipe, it took a few seconds. Not to be beaten so easily, I rebooted and tried again. It again worked quickly. I've been randomly checking all day and the longest it has taken is maybe 20 seconds. Pre-wipe, that never happened. There may be merit to this if it hasn't been tried. Don't know if it will work for everyone, but it certainly worked for me. At least for my gps issues (fingers crossed).
BTW, I had all my apps backed up (146, I just looked) and everything went back fine. Took a while for the restore, but it looks just as it did before the wipe. I never restore system settings, so I had to do it manually, but it was worth it.
Before anyone asks, my compass is still pooched...
Perhaps we should also realize that the bug with the compass might be caused by the app.

so far GPS is stock, but i dont use it much so i dont know the best settings here
GUI was a bit slow (loading here, loading there), had some minor FC (like when adding picture to contact, had to do it from desktop, in phone i got FC), Engadget widget didnt work 100% (back button had to be double clicked, single click didnt work), in launcher all widgets kept reloading (LauncherPro fixed this, but after reset it work like a charm in stock launcher as well), also had multi-tasking issue and now its gone....
Just wondering, What did you use for backup/restore?

i used to use Titanium backup, but i noticed that some (not all) apps didnt work correctly when restored, so I prefer to do everything manually to make sure everything works
Titanium Backup for me. It took a long time to go back, but it all seemed to work well. I haven't found anything broken because of it yet. Before this phone I would get broken market links and I'd have to restore app data twice sometimes, but it seems to be working well so far.
Also, as far as the rest goes. I am getting less stalling, but it's still there. It also fixed an issue I picked up with Quadrant somewhere along the line where it would hang during the i/o test. Another strange one was if I had gps in use, I could put my phone to sleep by turning it 180 degrees a couple times. That went away.
Just noticed facebook won't sync after the reset... Not sure what that's about.

YES!!! today I noticed when using a different micro usb cable the computer could not find the phone maybe just maybe the configurations are different for these samsung phones. Just because the third party apps don't show an accurate reading doesn't mean they don't find you. I have had NO gps problems in ANY application, I listed somewhere else 6 different applications all worked fine and found me and lead me in the right direction.

I agree with that, for sure. It seems after playing with Android for over a year, I think a lot has to do with data integrity. I've many times rebuilt by hand and installed all my bazillion apps by hand after a wipe and had it work fine. Backup, reset. It's worth a shot. Most of us are here to tinker and learn. Can't do that without some pain!

Oh, I thought you were talking about my crack about the compass. It needs a fix. The only issue I have with that train of thought, is when you use the dialer code to get into the gps settings and run the gps test in there, it doesn't care what the data stream looks like for the most part. It's looking directly at the gps/driver for it's info. It locks when it locks. I don't know, it's making my brain hurt.
When you say Reset are you talking a wipe from recovery or a Reset from inside the phone that basically sets the phone up for a new user?

I think it's the same? Not verified' but when I did it from the phone menu in settings, it rebooted into recovery and automatically deleted data, system and I think cache. Not sure exactly because I wasn't paying attention as I wasn't expecting it. It also flashed something. Maybe someone that's trying it could do both and see if there is a difference?

i believe some cables are charge only (like a lot of motorola cables) and others are charge/data cables - i went looking for a 180 degree adaptor (micro usb) and found them listed as 5 pin and 14 pin cables - suspect the other 9 pins are data transfer
very glad i did this reset...made a world of difference
People are mentioning back-up. All my contacts are obviously on my Google account, and I don't have any saved games or anything. Does Android let us re-download purchased apps after a phone reset? Would seem kind of dumb to not have that option.

Disabling sense doesn't make sense. Nothing runs in the background. Android is not emulated. Was it rebooting before rooting it?

Anything installed since then? Maybe something that relies on a schedule. How hot does the device run? It may be heating up and shutting down to cool off. Do any other Android builds replicate the same behaviour?
I have encountered the same problem. I just recently installed Android on my HD2 so I'm still new at this. When you say "rooted" what exactly do you mean? I'm running stock Rom v.3.14 with radio 2.15.50 and some mdj froyo build cannot remember which? It ran fine in the first week as far as I remember and then the rebooting started. My initial thought was that it was a program causing the rebooting or because I was running out of memory but a format of my SD card and then running android without installing anything didn't solve the issue. I'm perplexed and would really like to find a solution because I like android and would love to have it as my primary OS what Rom, radio etc are you using?

From what i am seeing it is not about how many apps you have eating up cpu triggering the reboot it is a or several rogue processes gumming up the works. check thes post for starters. let me know if this helps.

"apparently" nothing of the sort. Your HD2 reboots into android kernel, windows is NOT running in background.
Thanks Steve for recommending those apps. They are now installed but I'm not sure what exactly to look for but definitely good apps for troubleshooting. Although for some reason unknown my android has been running smoothly without any spontaneous reboot at all during the weekend!? I'm still experiencing heavy battery drain though but I'd prefer that over the spontaneous rebooting. I thought it had something to do with "angry birds" running in the background (paused and jumped to android main screen) that it somehow kept the phone from rebooting but the task has been killed/timed out and the android is still stable? The only thing different I have noticed in the OSmonitor log that there are no more "battery overpowered" (I think it was) warnings. I'm no tech/programmer so unfortunately I can't come up with a definitive answer. I'm just grateful that I can run android on my HD2 (bye Windows mobile) and I don't dare reboot my phone.
Kind regards Jimi

guys i have this issue, after flashing to darkly v9 some apps hang for one min or more. Example.
1- advance task killer will hang if I go see running services and back to task killer menu.
2- flickir wallpaper hd will hang if I preview any wallpaper and go back to the list of wallpapers.
At task manager, I can see these apps using 80% cpu for the hanged time.
I reinstalled apps, didnt help
i flashed the phone back to factory (using download), flashed to darkly v8, didn't help.
What to do
Edit- Ok, i found that it only happens when wifi is on.

Dont use those apps? (Ever occurred to you that it might be the apps and not the roms? or some other app that makes the other apps hang? Perhaps your very own task manager?)
umm, if everyone using those apps. and it runs fine. i think asking me to not to run the app is kinda not the right approach.
if things were working, then they are not working. then it means something wrong went. and i agree could be either. but before blaming the apps that are useful. lets try to fix it.
this issue, after flashing to darkly v9
Normally if you have a problem after doing X then its usually the fault of X
jje
agreed, but then after flashing back to v8. the issue was still there. hence the weird thing.
i asked around in another forum. and i think it fixed it. here was his solution

Yes but you may have needed a complete wipe of system and data to clear the problem .

I did wipe. Even did factory resest in recovry mode. Al yet didnt make it work. Now flickie wall paper stil hangs. Me out of ideas. Some suggested different rom!

oks. well give it a try later on. at least after two weeks. cant waste my time as i wasted my weekend!
Firstly congrats. If you're seeing this post, you might have already done so or are trying to flash some custom ROM, which is absolutely ok.
Rather its fun and satisfaction that you keep your device up to date if not possible through official means. Also for some good changes.
Unfortunately, its not completely flawless. There might be some issues which are covered in the further updates of the ROMs.
Among oother small problems, one major problem I faceed when I flashed a custom ROM (actually three) is that the Android Market failed miserably when I initiated it. There were horrible search results. Also the categories were not showing the apps which would otherwise be placed under them.
Fortunately, the Android Market site was open for me which was the last option for me to go on with.
The only solution I could find to this problem was a bit of patience and some really basic info about market.
I tried to re install all the applications that were previously being shown as installed already. Though they showwed "Installed" status but you can install them again.
After a lapse of almost three days, I tried to access the Market app and it was actually accessible with all the search functionalities and EVERYTHING running smooth.
A thing I would like to advise on is try not to wipe out all the data (the 4 wipe out options while flashing) from your device. It might, might help you not to lose data and possibly, the Android Market too.
Have fun.
I've been on a custom rom for greater than a month now and have not experienced any market issues. The only problem that I've ever had was wifi stopped connecting for me. But it was an easy fix. Sorry you've had problems... Perhaps something else is to blame?
