I have now walked around freezing my ass of in 20 minutes. I'm using tom tom 7 and have also tried google maps. Before hard reset everything worked just fine, it had full reception after 20 sec.
What can have gone wrong?
Maby you forgot using quickGPS?
Nope, used it several times
You have to hard reset one more time. I had the same.

Already did it a second time. Don't know what more to do.
I've had this happen on my Touch Pro and my Kaiser. It takes an obscene amount of time after a hard reset to get a gps signal. Try just leaving it on for a couple of hrs. If it never comes up then u have something serious to worry about
Ok, but you can't catch signal of gps or software can't see any gps hardware?

Well, Tom tom tells me that it has found the hardware. Then it starts to search and I can see in the gps info that it hasn't even found one satellite.
I have contacted the support my mail. If they can't help me the phone goes back to the store.

Here's what I did when I had your problem, I went to the settings of TomTom and then GPS-status > Configuration > Another Bluetooth GPS (Instead of built in GPS) > COM 4. All of a sudden it started working again!

Yes this is what happened to me. It detects the hardware but doesn't find a satellite for a quite a while and then after that first run of the GPS software it works fine.
I did one more hard reset today. Ran quickGPS, walked up a hill and placed the phone on a table for 30 minutes today. I have also restarted the phone and tried wayfinder, google maps and tom tom. At best tom tom gave me 3 gray bars. Wayfinder tells me that the signal is 25% but doesn't gives me a position. Goggle maps gives me a position but not so exact. I give up. Will leave it for service tomorrow. ohh, by the way. The support couldn't help me with any extra information.
GPS dead after hard reset
Hello,
The GPS of my Xperia is also dead after a hard reset.
Before it worked for weeks without a problem. After a hard reset is totally dead.
You should both install Chartcross GPSTest and run it. Set it to Auto. If you have no luck, kill the QuickGPS program from task manager and try again.
NB: When I had this problem, changing the baud rate to 9600 solved it, until the next hard reset when I had to set it back to 4800.
Hi Guys,
I'm having a similar problem with my X1.. I turn TomTom on after a hard reset and after a minute I get a GPS signal which is fine but then within a minute of using the app it completely freezes the phone and then the only way to get the phone working again is to remove the battery and start the phone again.. it seems to only happen when trying to make use of the GPS all other functions of the phone are OK as long as I don’t use the GPS..
Any ideas..?
I had same problem with gps refusing to get a lock so I just returned it to shop as it doesnt work as its supposed to. I think these forums are brilliant with lots of helpful people but at the same time I think £500 is enough money to spend that I shouldnt still have to search for help to get the phone to work as it should.

same issue... return device is nonsense, should be a software problem
make sure you set the GPS port as COM4, rather than Intermediate Driver. The latter is supposed to act as a virtual driver above the physical com port (com4), and selecting this "virtual" port will hang (at least on my Garmin MXT). I don't have that in my Touch Pro so I really think this is a Xperia bug.
must I deactivate "manage gps automatically"? can you tell me exactly ALL gps parameters? tnx
so has anyone found a solution to this yet?
SE support say they haven't even heard of the issue despite the number of posts about it around the forums
solution for me was: hard reset -> gps test -> tomtom and all others apps work fine
Drove home tonight and had to avoid an accident, turned on Tom Tom 7 and the phone locked up after a few minutes requiring a reset. Tried again, same thing happened.
Tried google maps, again same thing happened after a few minutes. This happened to anyone else? I have TouchFlow 3d installed (but same happened without it loaded). I was able to use TomTom for half an hour a few weeks ago with no issues.
Anyone else having an issue or know of a problem?
No, I am driving with bluetooth on and connected to my Parrot CK 3100 and Navigation with Navigon MN7. I can make and receive phone calls without problems while navigating. After the phone call the navigation is shown after a few seconds again and at the right place (not where the call started!).
Just as it should be...
This happened to me on Sunday when I was using Copilot 7. I then tried Google maps and it froze again. To solve this I reinstalled Copilot and this seems to have solved the problem.
Only reason I could think of is that I had just transfered the files across to a bigger sd card and thats why it kept freezing. Not sure how it was related to google maps as it was only the copilot files I had on the memory card.
All this could have effected GPS in some way but I'm not sure.
Hope this helps...

I noticed that if you don't connect to GPS via com4, but rather GPS Intermediate driver, this will hang.
What's the GPS setting of your Tom Tom?
TomTom just shows it as "Built-in GPS receiver". I think the COM4 is only for external GPS?
COM4 can be used for apps which don't realise that there is a built-in GPS. If TomTom is playing up it's worth trying it.
Tried COM4 setting but TomTom still locked up the phone after a few minutes(I'm in the office with poor GPS visibiliy also). Soft rebooted and tried Google maps which wouldn't recognise COM4 so went back to normal setting. Google maps then continued to work with no issues this time. I hadn't yet loaded TouchFlo 3D panel. Could this be a resources issue, is just having Touchflo installed a likely culprit? I haven't made any "tweaks" to performance/memory, was also thinking of installing the custom rom (itje?) with TouchFlo included as I hear it runs better than installing the cab?
gps problems
I have had gps working perfectly with copilot 7 in fact been amazed how fast the lock is etc but now it has stopped worling altogether for no apparent reason. No hang ups or freezes just not getting a lock at all on either copilot or google maps. I have even tried a hard reset and reinstalled everything and despite wandering about outdoors for ages, still nothing. Anyone got any ideas before I have to send my phone back? Thanks.
same problem here, tomtom 7.4 and 7.9 hangs the phone. If i don't activate intermediate driver ("manage gps automatically", I suppose) tomtom can't find gps receiver
also, it isn't a tomtom problem because demo mode withot receiver goes very well (tested 1 night while sellping, no hangs)
Are you using XperiaTweak and changing the graphics and system cache values I had the same problem with tt7 after changing system cache too high, if you are try lowering system cache value.

also, no tweak, so it isn' graphic related. It's a gps driver issue. ****

although i don't use tomtom, this is consistent with my observation that using intermediate driver will hang the phone (I use Garmin MXT)
did you try using com4 instead? it should work.
hard reset seems to fix the issue... have to test more before declare it definely solved but now seems to work (30 min without freeze...) I pray

have you ever used Advance Config to enable Quick GPS? I noticed that might have created compatibility issue. Couldn't prove it though.
hell I don't think I've seen the GPS get a lock once... on google maps it always had "searching for satellites (0)" and it never increased. I usually found what I was looking for and closed the app by then. I installed Advanced Config 3.3 and saw that it said A-GPS was disabled, so I enabled it and made sure QuickGPS was updated with info and tried google maps again. Still... it can't find any satellites. My HTC touch diamond would get a lock in seconds on the stock ROM, even indoors. I think SE really dropped the ball with the X1 =\

as I mentioned earlier, I observed that my GPS reception/fix is more stable if I do not enable A-GPS via the Advanced Config method, but just download the data from the program.
now I can even get fix indoor or my underground carpark (not totally covered so signal reception is still possible)!
I had this problem for the first time today.
Both iGO and Tomtom would freeze after a few minutes requiring the battery to be removed to gain control of the device again. I did a hard reset only a couple of days ago so it should be relatively clean.
Eventually I found that downloading the latest QuickGPS file appears to have solved the problem (even though the previous one still had 5 days to run). I wonder if the QuickGPS file was corrupt?
Does the system use QuickGPS only once when starting up the GPS, or does it continue to consult with it during navigation? My experience suggests the latter, or it may just be coincidence...
First, make sure you test w/ nothing being install to make sure no other conflict.
I've been using Igudiance4(w/ GPS gate), Igo8, Garmin Mobile XT 5.020 (TomTom 7 not tested because it's suck compare to others) more than an hour (Los Angeles to San Diego) without issue (and I am using CorePlayer to play music in the background too).
I have nailed down the issue to the GPS setting applied by the Advanced Config Tool (ACT). Will probably have to go deeper to understand the registry value it sets so that I can simulate the same w/o the ACT to prove/conclude the point.
But before I undo the setting by ACT, I frequently have drop GPS signal (Garmin will always complain lost satellite, takes a few minute to acquire before losing the satellite signal again). If I switched to GPS Intermediate driver, instead of COM4, I would get the hung situation.
After I have undone the ACT's GPS setting, my Xperia now has NO drop signal, nor will it hang when I access the GPS through the GPS intermediate driver port, instead of physical com 4.
I am having the same problem again now after I updated the QuickGPS yesterday. And I can confirm this is not related to bluetooth or xperiatweak or TouchFlo 3D or intermediate driver or the navigation softwares.
This is the problem:
Start Igo8 -> GPS gets coordinates -> working fine for 2-3 minutes -> THE PHONE FREEZES
Start Tomtom 7 -> GPS gets coordinates -> working fine for 2-3 minutes -> THE PHONE FREEZES
Basically, after using the GPS for like 2 - 3 minutes, the phone crashed and needed to be soft-reset. I think running the QuickGPS caused the problem. I had the same problem last time I updated the quickGPS. But after like a week the freeze problem had gone. Since then I had not updated the QuickGPS for a long time until yesterday and my igo8 and tomtom had been working fine last week without any freezes.
I had GPS working well and could see the satellites on the concentric circles using both TomTom and HTC GPS Tool and then get a GPS fix. After a month all the satellites disappeared from the circles when using both pieces of software. I tried a soft reset which did nothing, then tried a hard reset and after reinstalling tomtom and htc gps tool I could see all the satellites on the circles and get a fix without a problem. It has now stopped working again.
I have ROM version 1.14.405.3. With both pieces of software I am using COM4 and baudrate 4800.
Anyone no how to fix this or has had the same problem?
Would really appreciate some help.
I have noticed that when its not working and I run HTC GPS tool and open the COM4 port the text displayed in the box is completely different to the text displayed when it is working.
I had also this problem one time. GPS came back the day after. I have no explication nor clue for the reasons why the GPS went off and came back.. I soft resetted a few time, but with no immediate results. No hard reset.
Fortunately, this does not happens too often (one time only for me), but I'm pretty sure this problem will come back when I'll badly need my GPS..
I have another problem which comes more frequently (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448148), but I have a workaround.
I hope HTC is aware of these problems ans will provide a fix very soon.
Unfortunately for me when this happens it is permanent and the only time it started to work again is after a hard reset. When it was working I could get a fix without a problem. I have also disabled A-GPS. It is very annoying.
What I see In TomTom with the GPS status is '' poor GPS reception" so the GPS is recognised. Please if anyone can help, its driving me mad.
I can only use programs allowing to set the gps manually to COM 4 and 57600 Baud. I cannot do this manually in the Windows settings, because they are not saved.
Right, I tried the program GPS test and I get the message ''starting GPS" with a yellow dot next to it. I think for some reason the GPS is not starting properly, maybe its because of a piece of software I installed although I tested the GPS after every installation I made and it worked and then suddenly it stopped.
I got fed up again and did another hard reset, installed only TomTom 7.910 and it is now working perfectly again.
I think I wont install anymore software for the time being and then see how long the GPS lasts for this time.

This will make your HD an expansive navigations system .
hehe, Indeed it will, don't know how long I will last before I get bored and start installing stuff again. Not sure what else to do.
I cant seem to get my GPS working all the time. I've got some Freecaddie software but the GPS seems to work when it wants. What do I need to do to get it to work everytime I use the software?????
It should work out of the box, and works very well.
For the first fix though, stand under open sky for a while.
Are you using the GPS indoor? Getting a fix indoor is quite difficult and not possible in most cases until you are not standing next to a window.
i have a similar problem, i´m using igo on my hd and it worked very good in the beginning, but since a while when i start it, it gets a normal gps fix but then the gps connection only lasts a few seconds (5-6) and then looses connection for about 30 secs and when it finally finds it again it lasts again only 5-6secs...
can anyone help me? it´s very annoiying when i´m in a foreign town where i don´t have a good orientation and my navi system won´t help me at all
Hmmmmm - this should work "out of the box" whenever you use a GPS application.
Try this free app: Chartcross GPS Test 1.04 http://www.chartcross.co.uk
It will scan for a GPS device if you have one (as HD does).
that´s not my problem, igo finds my gps receiver...
GPS signal dissapears for 30 seconds then re-appears.
This is resolved by a soft reset, although in one case (When I actually was lost) it took 6 consecutive soft resets to finally start working whereas normally it only takes one or two...
I would be very interested to hear if anyone has a resolution to this issue?? or any idea's what may cause it not to work properly before one or two soft resets??
mine kept stopping for 30 seconds while I was driving, soft reset is a bit of a pain.. does QuickGPS help ?

Definitely, having QuickGPS updated won't hurt. Some people says it doesn't help much, but it should. It downloads updated data from satellites so that the internal GPS does not need to wait for that info. Anyway, GPS worked for me out of the box, without QuickGPS; it does the work very well and is quick fixing the position. Try GPS Test, as said above.
I have Duffy's 1.7 ROM (and admittidly this issue has only started since I loaded this ROM, Quick GPS is on, but shouldn't affect anything ONCE the satalites are locked... what happens is the satalites pick up for 30 seconds then off for 30 seconds then on then off ad infinitum. I use Tom Tom 7 and CheckPOInt, other than that fairly standard apps... core player etc. At the mo I'm just in the habit of soft reseting before starting GPS, from a soft reset button in touchflo programs its not so bad. Anyone else experiencing this exact thing of 30 on and 30 off??
The problem of losing GPS regularly happens if you have assisted GPS active. Uncheck this and all will work fine.
Does it still lock on fairly quick without Agps? I must admit I have not tried yet.
I have a problem where I've tried TomTom7 and in the GPS status screen it shows up to 7 or 8 satellites really quickly (maybe 10 seconds) then they all disappear a few seconds later, and it says something like "Are you sure you aren't inside a building?" (yes, I just didn't notice obviously!), then a few seconds later they all appear again & then off & on etc.
It's annoying but when they are showing they give a relevant position and speed.
Is this the same problem? No-one knows what is causing it I assume?
Crett, ( and a bunch of you above) sounds like you have AGPS enabled. AGPS (assisted GPS) must be disabled or it will do exactly what you are describing.
Cheers, and yes, I have got Agps activated. But it doesn't explain why it happens though.
Does the gps still work well without the download assistance?
It works flawlessly without AGPS and from what I remember (not 100% on this) , the AGPS is a bug through all HDs (drivers prolly) might even be throughout other htc phones

as i understood it, if your cellphone provider does not submit a proper agps signal, the htc always resets the gps with the faulty data. so switch of agps.
how do I disable agps??
cheers
Start, Settings, System, AGPS Settings, Disable.
And yes, it's working fine with it disabled.
Thanks

hmm haven't heard that but good to know. Now is the problem that htc coded it wrong (waiting for a wrong signal that doesn't come?)? That would be my take on it, since i haven't heard of anyone having the agps working (otherwise I'd think it would be the cell companies fault).
not sure if this helps, but i was just pratting around with settings in tomtom as mine was loosing signal every 30secondstoo. changed to max baud rate on com 4 and its now working sweet as
I have a I5800L (from vivo brazil), and when im using the stock eclair rom (VIJG7) my GPS gets a lock in less than 20 seconds. But when i update to ANY froyo rom (Kyrillos, InDroid, XXJPM, XXJPN, XXJPQ ... ) my GPS takes more than 15 minutes to get a lock. I've tried every GPS fix i found here, but it still doesn't work. Do anyone have any ideas?
When I had purchased my phone, I never used to get a lock.
Try this...
1. Look through the forum and you will find ways to configure the ntp server.(gps.conf) file.
2. Get this app called "GPS Status" and "GPS Optimization by octy".
3. Start your GPS using the GPS Optimization and then open GPS Status.
4. Go to tools--> Manage GPS-->Reset
5. Download assistance data.
Initially it will take some time to lock, but as u do this more and more, you wouldn't ever require GPS Status.
Just turn on gps with octy and you will get a lock soon.
Have patience.
When i got my galaxy 3 in Pakistan but set was purchased in UK i got the same problem..sometimes i got fix in 5minutes and sometimes when i am in a car i literally try for hour but i cant get lock...
Then i got through one thread sorry i don't know the exact name having lot of coding to fix gps..in this thread i see simple thing..
simple use this code *#*#1472365#*#*
it will open the gps setup2 do nothing and come back to your app it will caught 9 10 satellites in few seconds..
hope this will fix your problem..i am using this trick perfectly on my stock rom use offline maps in maverick..
Same problem here froyo messed up GPS.
Phone finds satellites fairly quickly (GPS status) but to get a fix on them takes forever if a fix at all comes.
Did not have this problem before froyo.
Well I did have some GPS problems but now it has become impossible.
Tried all apps I think, GPS boost, GPS aids.
I think I have the weird of all. GPS doesn't work at all. Network does. When I open Maps aftera long gap with wireless network on, it finds my location within 5 seconds, but wait ................. it jumps into completely different location instantly. originally I am from kolkata, it shows the same at first second and just jumps into JAPAN :O:O .. yesterday got the same thing but in different location, but it was within India atleast .. .. it was @ Roorkee, india. Lost all hopes.......... :|
