Hi guys
How to make permanent file association on Xperia X2?
I used Total commander where I had associate files with different programs ( for example mp3 with WinPaq, avi with Core player). But after every restart of my phone all these files return default association with slide view.
Is there someone who know how to change it?
Turn off "XKeyHandler" service and delete SlideView, PanelManager, XKeyHandler autroun keys from HKLM/init

Hi, all!
I got this problem: my MDA compact does not play neither mp3 no wma as a ringtone.
I changed a ROM to last i-Mate ROM, but problem persists.
Anyone got an idea?
ehmmm do it manually
what u have to do is, transfer the mp3 file from your computer to you MDA storage card. Then copy the file by tap and holding the file then click on copy... Then you go to Program -> File explorer -> windows -> ringtone and then paste it there...Now you have it ready for your ringtone file... Tell me if it works
Nothing works
Well, I put an mp3 file into \windows\rings\ and I can see it in Settings - Sounds and notifications and I can select it as a ringtone but when I press OK selected mp3 resets to windows default ringtone. The same situation with wma even with preinstalled wma such as Roaring guitar.
i get the same problem
seems like I catch a tail of the problem
On a clear device after hard reset everything is OK, ergo, the problem is in an installed software.
only software installed is SPB POcket Plus, GPRS Monitor, handyswitcher. resco explorer
Find it!

Have you iMusic (aka withMP3) player installed? In my case this software prevents MDA from playing mp3 as a ring
nope not installed
I have the same problem, with me it occured after changing the ringtone dir to the SD card, as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15902. After that, my ringtone keeps getting reset in the tools/options menu of the phone app, although I changed the registry key back to Windows/Rings. And that is strange, since the WIndows Default tone is not even in that folder, but in the WIndows dir! soft reset did also not work, and even altering the registry to make the default ringtone another one just resulted in no ringtone at all when a call is incoming! Any suggestions anyone?
OK, I may have a solution to your problem. After I f**ked up my register ( see my post above), I had the same problem. I fixed my register first, and then did the following:
-go to the ringtone you want ( in any location, be it your storage card, Windows folder or anywhere else) with File Explorer,
-just tap and hold the ringtone and from the pop-up menu select: "set as ringtone".
The file is then copied to the Windows/Rings folder, becomes visible in the list of ringtones you can choose and is automatically installed as your default ringtone. With me it worked, hope it does the same for you. Good luck!
I have been experimenting one this and basically from what I understand, you have to do the following:
If you want the thing to work as a default ring tone, I mean for any calls:
1) Copy the MP3 to Windows\Ring
2) Make sure the default application playing MP3 is working. Thus, if yo are using PocketMusic, make sure that when you click an MP3 file, PocketMusic will launch automatically. Otherwise, select Windows Media Player.
If you want ring tones for your homies:
1) Go to Photo Contacts.
2) Tap and Hold for your buddy and assign an MP3 ringtone.
I've encountered the same problem as antifa. When I try to choose an MP3 (saved in the Windows/Rings folder), it defaults back to Windows Default when I press the OK button to confirm the new ringtone selection.
It looks like the problem is related to file associations. After un-installing a particular software I lost the MP3 file association in such a way that tapping on an MP3 file from file explorer does not load media player.
I have now fixed the file association problem (using a 3rd party app) but the ringotone problem is still there!!
Any ideas please?
PLease help !
My music files were being set as ringtone with no problems before. However. I did some ext ROM cooking according to the good folks here this morning, and everything seems fine. I love it ! But I forgot to check the ringtone thing.
I have done some messing about with music player programs. ( I installed and uninstalled Pocket PLayer and WinampAQ.) Now i am using Pocket Music 4.02. But now I can't set any music file to be my ringtone. It copies itself to the windows\Rings folder, but it can't play the file. I tried to test it in the Setting\Personal\Phone but to no avail as well, always return to the Windows Default ringtone
Could you please tell me what might cause the problem. This is my first experience with a PDA, I got it 2 days ago . I got my original ExtRom backed up incase I might need some cab from that.
And could you tell me if there's away to associate the music file with WMP10 for PPC, because I can't find that function in WMP10 options. and if I don't have a 3rd party software, when I double clicked a Mp3 file, it says basically "files needed are missing"
My specs :
XDA Exec
ROM : 1.13.82 WWE
Programs intalled :
PocketMind Pocket Music
ValksoftSpace Reclaimer
Dinarsoft Memmaid
SOTI Pocket Controller
Total Commander
Thanks very much.
have a look in the registry under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3
should have a key called
Default
what does it say after that?
if I remember correctly, that is where the file associations are.
to open with WM by default, change the default (whatever) key to
default (MP3File)
and then reset
on mine, default is the only key there.
hopefully that will solve it.
After making core player my default player, I can longer use mp3s as ringtones. Problem is I cant seem to make the windows media player the default again.
This link http://www.futurehardware.in/568121.htm discusses the same issue and suggests that only a hard restore will fix it.
Surely I can make windows media the default player again without resorting to a hard reset.
Can anyone help with this please?
Cheers, Dean
Anyone out there that can help??
You need to try opening a fully functioned File Explorer (Resco File Explorer or Total Commander), seeking an mp3 file, then Tap/Holding its entry. This should bring up a context menu, which includes Open With..; If you select 'Open With..' you should get a list of applications, which should include WMP, and there is a checkbox at the bottom of the screen to 'Always use this program'
Resco is available as a trial, and Total Commander is free.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried this with total commander but only get "open" instead of "open with". When I then select open, I recieve the following message:
"There is no application associated with filename. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application"
So I do that but still have the problem - its like wmp wont associate with any files.
Any suggestions on this? Would resco explorer be any different?
Thanks, Dean
It is worth downloading Resco and trying it- the trial is free so nothing to lose.
It could be that Core Player has corrupted the whole file association system, in which case a hard reset may be needed, but I've not come across that before.
Have you tied reinstalling Core Player and starting again, then uninstalling again?
i installed the attached soft but it turned out to be crap
the .mp3 files cannot be executed with tap(the error tht comes is-it is not signed by trusted network or one or more components are missing) and ringtone cant be set
it cudnt be installed by remove programs
i had to delete its folder
and even now problems persists
plzzzz helpppp
is there any soft which associates file type with our desired software?
moreover this is not the actual Pocket DivX Player
http://labs.divx.com/node/235
You need to reassociate all music files to Media Player if you want your ringtones back . Once screwed up my Vox with GS Player
Hey!
Is it possible to define a folder where the music library should get all the music? I have files from G-Alarm and so on in it but can´t find a solution how to delete them outta the library..
Same problem here, every sound file type is shown there...
anyone an idea??
Annoying as hell... HTC needs to update this to allow us to point to a specific folder! I tried googling the issue but didnt come up with a solution...
Have you tried HIDDING the specific folder using an alternative explorer (like Resco explorer or Total Commander) ? In Total Commander, long press on the specific folder, choose "properties". There you can choose the attribute "system" and click on "recurse subdirs" so it applies to all files under that folder. This works to hide image files from the ALBUM, so there's a good change you'll fix this using the same method.
By the way, talking about Music library, do you experience some crashes of the music player after adding new files using mp3 cable? If so, this thread might interest you. I think there are problems with the way the player handles the ID3 tag of mp3.
Read this and relay the info, please.
I tried hiding some folders but then they get shown no where! For example: tried to hide g-alarm folder and the alarm tone also disappeared in the G-Alarm app... never expected crashes!
but the volume up & down buttons dont really work while i´m in the music app! when im on the home screen and mp3s are playing in the background, volume keys work perfectly no idea
I even went into the registry to HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config and changed the device scan path and fooled around with other stuff... nada... everytime after a soft reset, it still had ALL the system sounds and stuff in there.
Also, in that same registry folder, there is a ring_tone_path entry which probably explains why some of the ring tones don't show up....??
Can someone who knows a little more about this stuff enlighten us?
hello,
a workaround:
create playlist with one ore two files (songs).
after than close today-htc-sense.
open \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists\name-of-your-playlist
and put all your wanted songs in it (i mean, you have to write/edit the file)
tip: use cmd (dos) for trickies like "dir c:\folder\with\my\songs\ > c:\playlist"
you will get on c:\ a file with name "playlist". this could be use for editing "manila-playlist". put this file after finished back to \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists\ and starts your today-htc-sence.
i know, its a little bit grrrr and looks like work for end-of-life, but i say its a workaround and after three or four playlists you will be a profi.
Found a solution.
This will only work if you have your music on SD card. I also have tomtom maps there but no actual tomtom so for me it is only music on sd card.
1. Start from removing your card and then going to music tab so it rescans and states no music found. (Skip to step 3 if you are starting from clean rom)
2. Go to registry editor of your choice and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng (for german it will be AudioManager_Ger)\Information
Delete all items in that folder. You will not be able to delete Information it self.
If you are on clean rom you will not even have that folder it is created 1st time when music tab finds music.
3. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config
In there change:
"device_scan_path_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
"device_scan_path_path_0" from what ever there is to \Windows
"ring_tone_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
What this will do is exclude all files in windows folder. If you have any files in my documents they will show up. I assume if you just put "\" instead of "\Windows" it will exclude entire my device but did not test it.
4. Soft reset, insert your SD card and enjoy.
