So I decided to delete my g-mail acct. I never ever use it... I have another email acct that is my primary...
anywho, so I tried to go onto the Market & it says my password is invalid for the gmail acct that I signed up with. It doesnt exist any longer & theres no way to change it that i've found on the Market to another email or something.
what to do?? I've searched and i havent found a solution.
BASICALLY- what i need to know is how do i get back onto Market?
I guess the easiest way would be to set up your phone with a different gmail account. But you will still lose the apps you paid for.
You could try emailing android market support or Google checkout support. They can transfer your purchases to a different account. Not sure if they would be willing to though.
Yeah, when I switched to CM6, the email I thought I used previously wouldn't work so I created another. Turns out that I misspelled the first email I created, which is why I kept getting it wrong. When I installed CM6, I ended up just creating another account for the market. Now I have two gmail accounts on my phone and neither are my usual usernames. When I go to settings > accounts & sync it won't let me delete them. I pretty much have to have both emails on my phone so I can keep my apps anyway. It just sucks that both emails' login info is something that I will never remember off the top of my head.
I got my first Android phone last year, and I've loved it. Obviously, hanging out in here, I'm looking at getting the Atrix. OK, I'm committed to it, damnit.
Anyway, question is this: When I pick up the Atrix...how do I get all my crap from my N1 to it? Apps, texts that I want to keep, game data, etc. Is this where we just run something like Titanium (which I *think* requires root) and just restore from that? I'm sure this is really simple and basic...but I've never had to change Android phones before.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
ETA: Are there options that don't require root? Assuming it could take a week or so for the Atrix to be rooted.
Requiring root. You can titanium backup your messages and game data to your sd card. When you get the atrix, put your sd card in it and restore the data using titanium.
Your apps/contacts/games will download automatically as soon as you log into the phone, assuming you have a google account and have everything set to sync automatically on your current phone.
As for a non-root method, I haven't looked into it.

You sure the apps and everything will download? The GF lost her Captivate, so I got her a new one, logged in, contacts downloaded...and that was it. Maybe I just haven't checked the setting to back up the apps as well? If not, I probably need to do that on my N1, though I've got that thing backed up ten ways from Sunday lol.
ETA: Appreciate the help, Mike.
App backup, if I recall correctly is enabled by default, but only available on 2.2+ builds. So that would be why the Captivate didn't come back. As for texts, SMS Backup & Restore works perfectly for me, and it doesn't require root.

If you use a messaging program like handcent, you can back up your SMS and MMS to be reloaded onto your new phone too. Save all your numbers to your google account too, and also consider moving all your apps and files to your external sd card.

Contacts and SMS aren't too big of a deal. I've got those covered a few different ways. I'm worried more about apps, app data, and various settings. If an app doesn't natively support being on the SD card, then one must run Apps2SD, which is cool. Except it's not, since we have no idea when the Atrix will be rooted. And then there's the issue of apps that AT&T *may* not allow. I'm not sure how those would be installed from the SD card, as per your recommendation, if AT&T elects to block non-market APK installs.
In short, I appreciate the reply and discussion. I could have thought through my initial question much better, as your reply has cause me to rethink a bit. Thanks mate.
Funny, I'm gonna go from an N1 to an Atrix as well. I know as far as contacts go, el goog will have them for me already. But I was wondering if using a csv(?) contact backup would be better? My google contacts aren't all right, my online gmail is missing some contacts that are on my phone. My main concern is getting all the extra stuff in contacts; email address, street address, birthdays, etc... Just wondering which would be better at transferring all that?

Are you using an Exchange account with Outlook? Android will sync mail, calendar, and contacts with Exchange much more easily that trying to sync directly with Outlook.

I am using Outlook without Exchange on my home PC. Still checking different ways to sync phone and android. I have >5000 contacts from several associations I am in, and I am not sure if Gmail can handle those plus the supplemental info (spouses, birthdates, etc.).
I'm so sick of the problems with these custom roms, I'm going back to stock.
LOL cute. Did you make a nandroid backup? If so you can restore from that, if not go to HTC's site and get whatever "stock" ROM you'd like.
Also, have you tried troubleshooting your ROM woes? It could be some ID-10 T error which a wipe typically clears. I've made this error a great many times.
P. S. I'm running CM nightly, and it's been relatively stable. So I'm sure the final release will be far more stable.

I ran every rom, every kernal, every version, wiped, backed, burped and farted.
It's all over not being able to delete a Google account. God damn Google and their infinite wisdom.
not sure what you mean by delete a Google account
Two gmail accounts on one phone. The default needs to go. Google won't let me delete it without a wipe.
So, I wiped all day and flash new roms, nothing works. Restored a nandroid and the phone works for the first time today but same old two account business.
We used to be able to delete the google account, (clear user data I think) but I guess not anymore. If I have to wipe to fix this I want a phone that works and right now stock is looking peachy.

do you have the accounts linked through gmail settings (on computer not phone) That's the only reason I can think of and could be really off..
if you do a full wipe, set up one of the accounts(the one you want) and if they both appear after that maybe they are linked in some way through email. I know you can link accounts but never used it and dont know how it works.. but I do remember seeing a setting when I was poking around gmail

If I wipe login one account it only shows one and that's fine but I have my phone the way I want it and took days to get it this way. CM7 RC1/ mixer and it's been running fine. I tried to wipe, install RC1/Mixer again, and it didn't work for me. I've been at this all day and not happy.
Here's the issue: The default account has no contacts, the other accounts has all my contacts. If I try to use better cut or any cut I can't see the contacts because both those programs look at the default contact list. Better cut sees nothing.
It's a stupid problem that should be an easy fix, delete one account and the other becomes the default. How I achieve this magical feat eludes me.
orrrrr you can import contacts to that default account and ur problem is solved? which can all be done from your computer in under 10 minutes.
Export from second account all contacts into a folder, then import into the first.
I use 2 gmails. I don't have any problems.

I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. I will warn you tho, I did have the stuck sending issue yesterday, but I think that was the first time.

Oh sorry, if it is a /system app in the ROM, then you'll need to use Titanium Backup or a file explorer app. The free version of Titanium will do the job.

Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
I managed to get two s5's rooted and annoyingly enough, unless I put my sims card in them, neither gmail or the playstore will connect or login via wifi. I only have one sims activated and that is my internet connection which I tether via wifi to my other devices.
Is there a way to work around this? If this is too remedial a question or unwelcome in this thread, I apologize.
I'd like to be able to set up a freshly flashed and rooted phone to accept my gmail account and work with playstore on wifi, sans a sims installed. Do I need to create a gmail account for each and every phone I wish to set up? Will this fix the problem of doing a phone not having a active verizon sims installed? For whatever reason, my playstore access and gmail push are wonky and dubious at best when having the same account being "registered" on multiple devices and I'm not sure if it started recently when gmail for some reason started sending notices to said email account of when another device logged in.

That's perversely encouraging and assures me I haven't lost my mind expecting something impossible that I thought I knew to be true. Neither of my S5's, my N4 or Z2 will reliably hook up with gmail and the play store both. This one S5 will not allow me set up a new gmail account on the device and gmail has stopped pushing to my DD S4. Remove account, clear cache, date force stop all google processes, reboot and same. Lots posted about it and I know google hasn't banned me as it is working on some devices. Besides, I behave.
Now if I can get supersu to install from an APK with a wifi connection, I can at least proceed.
Congrats on yours and thanks for confirming it should work.
Well I popped the sims card in the one, which had been flashed back to ngc from oa8 (my other one hadn't ever tried to OTA update from nk2) and playstore and gmail cooperated fine. However, SDM started downloading an update, which I'll assume is OTA to OA8 or OC4. The first time before I pulled the battery I got playstore hooked up and forced SDM to stop. Pulled the battery and SDM continued where it left off and I managed supersu and busybox. Deferred the install of the update and wonder how critical it is that the downloaded file be removed prior to safestrapping it and then OC4 rooting it with the tether addon.
The other S5 on nk2 hasn't tried to OTA update so it must be down on the list despite being readily activate-able with clean IMEI and no issues.
I wish I could figure out why google services such as gmail and playstore are being contumacious on my devices.
I had that same problem of an update trying to get on my phone before I could get it rooted ( an s4) and it messed my phone up bad. I had to finally take the update to get it working again
I would put all the files, towelroot, busybox, SuperSU, safestrap, and titanium backup on my ext SD card. Flash back to stock NGC. Don't use your Sim or log onto WiFi. Root your phone and freeze SDM.

It never attempted the OTA until the active sim card was in place. I used it on wifi many times including several times today and had even worked fine with the playstore/gmail on wifi up until recently when gmail stopped pushing to my dd period, and every other device in which my DD's sims card wasn't inserted.
The OTA update file has been downloaded, but not installed. I deferred it to 5 am and didn't check automatic. I am assuming I can defer it again although I'd somehow feel better removing it and freezing SDM until I decide if I am going to OC4 it or do a custom rom. Nice would be native call recording, native tethering and being able to overclock it a bit. A lightweight lollipop and xposed would probably do the trick other than maybe overclocking. Too much reading for one day.
It is currently on NCG, rooted, supersu, busy box, and safestrap all installed. I think I'll install a root file explorer try to find it and also do Titanium Backup while I'm at it. I wish I knew where it was and if removing it was as simple as just deleting a file.
Any ideas? I have two in the same state and think I'm going to make one of them my DD since getting root on a verizon N4 doesn't look likely anytime soon. The N4 is kinda big anyhow. I have to have tethering and would like it easier than foxfi since I feel obligated to use as much of my unlimited data as possible. I think I read the native call recording can be enable from the dialer at the cost of the "add call" which I don't use or even know what it is.

Getting on that this morning. I wish I could figure out why it keeps downloading and installing playstore on wifi and still won't work until I put my sims in it. I've gone through everything short of uninstalling all of google services and reinstalling them on several devices. My wifi only z2 tab acting stupid with google would be a vexation if I let things like that bother me.
Thanks and I'm popping the sims in it and going to try cleaning it up and locking down SDM.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Installed the root browser and the update zip was in cache.
Deleted.
Went to system with the display icon.
App then deleted the SDM apk and the SDM odex file.
Hopefully that will keep it from pulling that stunt again until I decide what to do with it.
Guess I should do it with the other one and figure out why that same sims won't make gmail push to my DD or the play station work in it or why my non-pc wifi only devices won't work except through their browsers. I think there must be some conflict with which devices the playstore is recognizing as being associated with my accounts.
Must be something in my google settings and what a conglomerated octopus google services has turned into.
Thanks again. Feel free to tell me if my down and dirty bandaid overlooked anything!
Good luck to you!
The only thing weird about my google account and gmail is that the email address I login with is not the one that shows up under "accounts" and the login email address is not a gmail address. Somehow the two different email accounts are linked together.

Yeah, I wish I know what Google was up to exactly. Acknowledging the 'this device logged into your account' and verifying that it's me, seems like should seamlessly eliminate issues. That doesn't appear to be the case and I think my problems started when I somehow agreed for them to send me such notices relative to the gmail account I use on my other devices, not both gmail accounts associated with my DD.
On my DD, I have two gmail accounts that I've had for ages. They have always worked fine on my android devices. Recently that changed and I'm not sure why but I know when. On my other many devices, I've just registered one of my gmail accounts to them, the same one each time, and they too all seemed to quit working at the same time, initially offering no problems to working on wifi.
However, I am curious as to your thoughts on Ricks Rom as I looked over the specs and it seems to be about what I'm looking for although for some unqualified reason, my mind has been thinking I wanted a rom based on lollipop. It says it has native or hacked hotspot and native call recording. Can it be overclocked? I don't use Facebook, Twitter or any of the gimmicky apps that come preinstalled on the phones and find most all of them, especially the Samsung redundant ones, to be annoying and intrusive.
Do you know for sure if Xposed will or will not work with it?
How many security certificates come system installed on Ricks Rom? My guess is that something like 200 come stock and I don't like the looks of many of them and wish I knew how come and why.
Thank you, I appreciate your sharing information. It is nice to gather up pieces to puzzles and hopefully being able to solve them. I'll get this gmail playstore thing fixed if it means I have to go fishing long enough to forget about it! Maybe somebody else finding themselves in a similar situation may find some of our particular details useful to fixing these oddities.
I'm running RicksRom (v19 right now) on my DD and have been using it since I first got my phone a year and a half ago. I don't have Xposed but don't know why it wouldn't work. This is a pretty lean ROM but it does have quite a few security certificates. I'm running MOAR on my spare phone that is currently on lollipop. I have this phone as a spare to play with but wouldn't run lollipop. Too quirky and I like the theming capabilities of KitKat better.

Thanks, lean sounds fine and overclocking a bit would be even nicer! I'll dig through that thread a bit more and see if anyone has verified Xposed to work with it conflict free and if it can be clocked.
I went through my gmail account settings on my PC and under Recent Activity/Notifications and Alerts... there is no way to uncheck any alerts that have been checked. I am pretty sure my issues started when I recently checked "Email" for Suspicious Attempt to Access Account. The password change email notice has been checked since forever.
Going to the Playstore on my PC, it lists all of my devices, past and present although it has dropped some that haven't accessed for a while, and now makes me think I need to give them all nicknames since I have multiples of the same Model Number devices. However, it lists all current and recent as well reconciles. What it won't do from my PC browser, is anything but sit there doing nothing when I hit install for a selected app. It will not give a pop down menu to select which device and the playstore account settings are very minimal. I will see if nicknaming them helps since there are multiple devices with the same model number. This type of online PC install used to work fine and would prompt with a pop down menu to select which device, regardless if they were online via the sims or wifi, and then download and install if the selected device was online. I don't recall ever doing that when I had multiple devices having access with the same model number.
Another interesting thing is that Verizon must have access to the playstore and/or gmail device list. I know this from speaking with a very helpful tech rep this week about my data connection speed on my DD. She verified seeing devices on this account even if they hadn't ever had my sims card installed. Merely been online with my one email account registered and playstore accessed from it. That kinda surprised me. I wonder if there is some Google Services/Verizon conflict that may be causing this.
