I have a Telus Hero unlocked, and there was a link a while back on here to update it to 2.1 which I did. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714855
I did not root it.
However, I'd like to update my phone to the latest market because Angry Birds isn't coming up in my market.

But.... Android Market is having issues at the moment, downloads aren't working. Get AngryBirds from getjar.com

According to the guys at TMoNews the official 1.6 donut rollout started about 1hr 20mins ago. Or 12am EST. For the G1's. Not surprising since they updated the MyAccount app early today.

BE WARNED, if you flash this you will not have root access anymore!!!
But rest assured, someone will fix it up soon.

I also go to: Menu\setting\about phone\system updates. Nothing is update!
So how can I update?!
Thanks
you either wait for the OTA update to come on its own, or wait for someone to post an official 1.6 download link and then flash it through recovery mode.
OTA stands for Over The Air update, supposedly TMobile is the one that sends the updates over,so maybe you will see a pop up windows asking/telling you to update.
I think with cupcake it took them a few weeks to roll it out to everyone, could be a while for the ordinary user.
but there were also official download links up within a few days. this made it easy for people who actually knew how to operate their phones to get the update.
Settings/About Phone/System Update only works once the ota has been stored in /cache. It should ask first if you want to donwload it and apply it
anyone know if 1.6 will be more stable or better than CM?

no there are not threads for people using more recent 1.6 roms than 4.1.11.1 in this forum. so no, no one knows.
4.1.11.1 was experimental for testing and feed back so no it was not as stable as more recent ones since adp1 1.6 rom was released u can't fault it though it was experimental
I must be one of the lucky ones. I got it about 11:25 central time. I have not had time to abuse it yet but some of the interfaces look better. Market and camera look good. I did not even have a sim card in the damn G1 and it pushed through on wifi. go figure. so far so good though.

tmobile is not the ones sending the update OTA. its google.
I have a G1 that has been rooted and is running xROM.
I assume that I will not get the update to 1.6 OTA is that right?
I would like to install it and check it out how would I go about that?
I found this on HTC's Web Site
HTC Developer
About halfway down the screen they have the images for 1.6, 1.5, ect.
I just don't know if I can use one of those images and load it like I did when I loaded xROM.
Thanks.

I am running CM experimental (4.1.11.1) and my phone is rooted, if i install the official 1.6 from Tmo, will it "unroot" my phone?
Hey guys,
If you guys have a HTC HERO that didn't come with android market then you have to Flash your phone and get a Custom ROM. The custom rom will give you your android market. I'm not sure but don't update your HTC Hero to the 2.1 because you need Root access and 2.1 doesn't give you root access thats what i heard. Well you can Update your phone to 2.1 and hope that the 2.1 will give you android market but i wouldn't take that risk.
Well i hope this help's
Thank You and have a Great Day

Do some carriers actually disable Market access?
Yes, well for my htc hero it did.
Heroes manufactured for East Asia (I think) do not have the market. I had the same problem and for a while I solved it by installing Slide me & SAM, but there were far too few applications available and that's the main reason I decided to root and instal a custom rom.
Anyone happy about the OTA for today lol thats going to fix netflix? supprised there isnt a thread already somewhere I cant wait hate not being able to use it on my phone.
Netflix has been working for the past few days, just update the app. You can't download from the market yet but you can download off the internet and install manuelly, then update.... Yeah I've been waiting a long time too

I'm not too sure about the supposed netflix fix with the htc update. As far as I can tell the netflix app is gone from the market. Suppose I take the update and decide I want to reset my phone to factory. I obviously can't install netflix again because its not even available to be download from the market anymore.

if by factory you mean unroot dont do it just wait the update will be here and netflix should show up again
No I mean to do a factory reset. Lets say I have unrooted gingerbread update from before and I update to this upcoming one. I decide to do a factory reset to go back to OEM state. I will obviously have to reinstall my apps again from the market. But the netflix app is no longer available to be download from the market. Which leaves me to believe that there is a problem on Netflix's end.
Another thing is that I am on Froyo now and I am still having problems with Netflix. It doesn't seem like Netflix's problem is limited to gingerbread.

Here you go http://www.mediafire.com/?48bncrfrvxmgrtc
once it installs there is an update, then it will work. Confirmed to work on the Evo and 3vo
Had the NetFlix app already installed from prior use, and it actually never stopped working for me. Went to open this morning got prompted for the "New Version of application is found" Clicked ok and get "Not found" The requested item could not be found. Confirmed not working.
NetFlix must be playing with the update. If I hit "Cancel" it will sit at a White screen and Netflix will load.
Currently running Version 1.2.1 build 843839-1.0.0-30 that I downloaded from a share somewhere.
Running Sprint Stock OTA 2.3.3 never rooted.
Did not work

Will the OTA provide the key to decrypting the new bootloader? Just wondering.
Downloaded the latest version and still can't get it to work on MikG 1.04.
Sucks that netflix doesn't work on GB yet

Once downloaded on PC, whats the procedure for getting it installed on phone?
I just got the new market update OTA.
Stock T-Mobile G2, still waiting on the Ginger OTA update.
How did you get it, did it show a notification or did it just show up by itself?
im on the unity rom and not stock so im not sure if im able to get it. if not ill just install the apk
It just showed up. I was on the original market downloading something, then my download stopped. So I loaded the market back up to restart my download and BAM, the new market.
Phoenix, Arizona
Yea, I unrooted because I'm going to send my phone in soon for warranty reasons. I figured the stock folks would like to know about the update.

I'm on Unity also, and I got the Market update about a week ago. Unlocked Canada Bell Desire Z being used on the AT&T network in the US. No notification, the new Market just popped up when I opened it one day. I'm pretty sure I had even used the old Market earlier that day.
If you don't want to wait download it and install it manually:

This. Otherwise its just rolling out randomly over the next several days. There's no sure-fire way to get the update right away unless you just install the .apk.
As a warning, rooted devices CANNOT play movies rented from the market at the moment. It lets you pay then doesn't allow playback.
does anyone knows how to add the pay by bill option on the new market?
Im LOVING the new look to the Market!! Its GANGSTA!!
I'm a new user to Android and with the help of some threads on here I was able to root and then unroot my phone to get the 2.3.5 OTA. My problem is now I can't redownload some apps since the OTA, MLB at bat for example. When my phone was stock, and when it was rooted the app downloaded with no issues. Now since the 2.3.5 update it says the app is not compatible with my phone when I try to send the download from the My Market page. Any ideas on how I can get this and a couple other apps to download or do I have to wait for them to be compatible with 2.3.5? I'd rather not re-root the phone right now cause I'm still having signal issues and my need to take it into Sprint for replacement.

Wait for the market to update for the new 2.3.5 build fingerprint. Once that is done you will again have access to protected apps.
