I just noticed there is a Kies update available, and when I pluged in my SGS, it said it had an update available, and if I wanted to backup my Phone contacts. So, I was all exited and unrooted my device, uninstalled lagfix, busybox, changed minfree back to default, ... (just to be sure). When I tried to update I got a warning: "Latest version already installed" --'
So, FALSE ALARM(again), don't make my mistake

You can check for new firmware without revering lagfix etc etc. Just uncheck the box to process your phonebook when doing firmware update.
Furthermore, it's not because there is a Kies update (which is global not for Belgium or Netherlands only) there is a new firmware available. I suggest to check XDA or Kies itself before reverting all your modifications for an upgrade...

Hey guys, i recently bought my GS2 from 02. I am on the original firmware and have not updated to KE1 or KE2. I recently downloaded the latest version of Kies and plugged in my device. All the drivers were successfully installed and i could sync all my music fine.
I plugged the device in yesterday and it said latest firmware (KE2) was available. i said yes, backed up my device, and said started downloading. Once the firmware was downloaded it said preparing device for download.
Now is when the error message - 'FirmWare update stopped working' (on vista 32bit)
so anyone had this problem or know how to fix this?
i am not rooted or anything just stock
Its nothing with being rooted or anything else wrong with your device.. The problem is with Kies, it hangs sometimes.. Trying again, might help you..

I've tried about 10 times and i just tried it. Still the same error... Also i can't uninstall applications anymore! Once i click uninstall it says comandroid.vending stopped working and the market crashes. then as as soon as i hit OK TW launcher also force stops so basically my phone is crippled and i have to reboot it... i really dont know whats going on!! it was fine for the past week
Just flash it using odin 2 mins your done read how to in devolpment section of forum

I found Kies works much better on my netbook running windows XP 32bit than on my desktop running windows 7 64bit. If you have a windows xp PC you can use, I would suggest you give that a try.

You need to turn of your anti virus when updating with kies . the anti virus will delete a file half way.though update. so turn it off
AV and Firewall OFF .
Factory reset phone if you can
Kies no update try emergency firmware recovery if problems .
I will contact them, also because im using o2 firmware i dont think i can flash using odin or can i?
Flash with Odin if its a stock Samsung rom then O2 can refuse warranty Samsung will hour the warranty ..

So what are the major differences? I heard that the Auto-Brightness issue had been fixed (although my brightness is always set manually).
OH DAMN IT! The uninstalling problem still remains. whenever i go into manage applications and try and uninstall something it says 'The application market (processcom.android.vending.) has stopped unexpectadly. Please try again'
and it says uninstall finished but once i reboot its still there. I also cant install stuff from the market anymore after that message appears! I also cant get on the internet it makes me force close.
I have to reboot to get the internet working again... this really sucks anyone know why?
The final step would be to try a full hard reset of the phone but that would wipe everything on it so worth saving as a last resort.
As a first step have you tried going into
Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All tab, selecting Market and press ing the Clear data and Clear cache buttons, just in case there's something in there that's causing a problem ?

I just tried that, and then this time when i tried uninstalling the TW launcher force closed! now i have to reboot or i cant even use the phone. I would probably do a full hard reset of the phone... How can i do that? using kies?

About the root im gonna wait until the guy has the kernel for KE2 which he said would be around the 23rd. And about the first link... why all the codes? i cant find a code with a full reset :?
You can use the current insecure kernel with KE2.
You install KE2 (of course), install the insecure KDD kernel via ODIN, root and install superuser via SuperOneClick then finally flash back the stock KE2 kernel.
The rooting works fine even after flashing back the stock KE2 kernel.

so i just follow chainfires guide as it is and basically once ive finished everything just flash back the KE2 he supplied? that sounds great i will do that.
one quick question though my phone is O2 branded.. does that affect rooting in anyway?
Hi Guys, I had a hell of a time updating my phone to 2.3.3 after previously having updated my phone to 2.2 Froyo using the Reg Hack method to fool kies in to thinking I had a XEU phone
my phone was originally a ORA (Orange UK) phone and locked to their network
After the Reg hack update, kies saw that I had JPO, but also could still see it was an ORA phone and kept telling me I couldn't update, here's what I had to do to get Kies to offer me the JVO update
1. BACKUP YOUR CONTACTS / DATA ETC.
2. Use the *#272*imei#* code to set my phone's product code to XEU
This then no longer displayed the "cannot update this version" message but still wouldn't offer me the update
3. SuperOneClick root (which also installs busybox I think - i just did the oneclick root anyway) (set USB debug on before this and turn it off again after)
reboot phone after one click root
4. Download and install Galaxy_S Unlock from the market (free) and go through it's 3 steps, reboot phone again
close and/or open Kies, connect phone, get offered update, get update, re-setup your phone all over again
sounds simple but this whole process took me about 3 hours of working out what the next step was (or what else I needed to do to get to the next step), figured posting this here might help other people cut this down to less than 1 hour
I haven't updated my phone for quite a while, the last update I did was a camera update ages ago.
A few weeks ago I tried to do a firmware update and it failed, so I let it be, but now I really want to update it because it's bugging me.
I just updated Kies.
The current firmware version is: PDA:KE7 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
It wants to update me to: :KF3 / :KE7 / KD1 (XEU)
I have no idea what that means, by the way.
I hit next, and yes, and choose not to backup, and tick that box, and then it loses the connection and tells me again 'OH HAI! You can update your phone!' and I'm stuck in a loop.
I'm on Windows 7 on a laptop, I'm in Australia, I bought my phone pretty early on, from the UK. Have not done (and see no reason to do) any rooting or other stuff like that.
Please help?
Make sure the Drivers are correctly installed and you don't have a MTP Error when you connect.

How do know if I have an MTP error? Nothing has come to me saying 'I'm an MTP error!' do I have to go looking for it?
Just Uninstall them from CP and Reinstall them. MTP device error pops up when you connect your device, if you don't have one I guess you are OK with that part.

Make sure your phone is fully charged - I mean 100%.
I've had Kies flake out on me like that (with no error message or anything) because the phone's battery was only at like 97%.

I entered today Kies to check for updates (like I do every few days) and I got a message my device got a newer firmware.
OK so I clicked on update and accepted the terms and started the update.
At first it wrote "Downloading firmware upgrade components" and right after it showed the error "Failed to run firmware upgrade.Unknown error occurred."
I googled the problem and I tried already resetting the computer and the device, re-installing Kies3 and re-installing the USB drivers. Nothing helped.
Moreover, when I check for updates through the device settings it says I have the latest firmware.
My Knox flag is 0x0 and the device status is written as official.
I don't have any other computer to check.
So what is the problem and how to solve it?
Is my computer at fault? Or the device? Or Samsung's servers?
And why when I check through device settings it says I have already the latest firmware?

OK I solved the issue by disabling the Avast antivirus.
My only question now is why the OTA service said I have the latest firmware at the same time that Kies offered me an update?

Rule #1 Never update via KIES unless you don't know what are you doing...
KIES is for backup (what I never use) but all you need from them is samsung drivers... that's it

I replied and said that I succeeded in updating via Kies. The antivirus blocked the update.
My question is why this update didn't show up in device's settings via OTA?

tried via OTA but says number of roll-out updates exceeded try later or update thru kies...
then via KIES everything went fine but after downloading and before installing ....

After searching the internet with the same problem I got so many responses some saying don't use kies, while others say kies is the way to go I decided to visit the Samsung website to see what they say about this particular error.
I had put in the link that will take you directly but am not yet allowed to do that as a new user.
anyway on the Samsung website I selected my mobile model etc till I got to a page where I got 2 options one to upgrade through kies or upgrade through fota. I chose kies. you will then see where it tells you to download the kies software. I had kies but I still took the choice to download.
during the download and installation process it will notice that u already have kies on your pc so it will ask you to remove these, you must agree to remove. from there just follow all the instructions, it worked my gt-s5830 has been updated from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3

if anyone has any issues with updating your mobile on kies, ensure your anti virus is off and you run the program as an administrator...it gave me hell on earth for hours.

- Flashed stock ROM from Frija (wasn't able to backup data and settings when I first rooted my phone) (the stock firmware is the May 2021 security firmware update, it's the only one available from both SamFirm and Frija based on the region and carrier where my phone came from) using the HOME CSC file instead of the CSC (not sure if it's important to point that out but i'm just gonna bring it up just in case)
- Re-locked bootloader using download mode. Verified by searching for Netflix on the Play Store and thankfully, it showed up.
However, I tried making the phone search for an OTA update by going to Settings > Software updates > Download and install, but after checking for updates, it says my software is "up to date". I'm not entirely what the latest software version in my region is but I really want to get OTA updates back. I don't care about tripping Knox or what not, I just need the OTA updates.

As for my experience, if you are unable to get updates because of rooting, you will get: "Unable to connect to the server" or something like that. If neither Frija nor SamFirm were able to find newer software that you have, it's more like region-specific, not a rooting problem
