Why do you want to remove updater?

probably because he doesn't use it our feel a need to have it?

Just use Root Explorer and delete it. Or, if you are familiar with adb you can remove it that way. Very simple.

This is not an update.zip you must manually unzip, copy and properly set permissions...
Someone could make an update.zip though... unfortunatelly I lack the skills...
Cheers

What do you mean by properly setting permissions?

Using something like Root Explorer you need to change the permissions.

Permissions for all the audio files need to be set at RW/R/R
Using Root Explorer you can change system to R/W, long press on each file, then select change permissions from the menu, then set them per what I said.

Using Root Explorer, go to /system/media/audio/ui, long press any file and select "permissions", a window will show up with a configuration of checkboxes. The permissions of any new file you copy there must be set to the same configuration.
Bump for anyone else who needs these too. The alarm bug sucked! lol

How do I edit my egl.cfg file?

Ok so Ive searched around to try and find a solution to my battery issues and it seems that if I edit my egl.cfg file to take out the android line it may get some better life so I wanted to try it.
Well I figured you couldn't change a system file while it was in use, but I cant seem to find anything that say how to change it. Everything I see says just go in there and modify it. Well again the OS will not allow that. I change it and it doesn't save, it just goes right back to having the android in it. Like I said I figured you couldn't do this, but then again I cant find proper instructions on how to actually do it.
Use root explorer and mount system as r/w. Then edit the file.

How would the app work without root? It has to have permission.

No. No software is able to access that partition without rooting. It will not have the proper permissions.

There's always adb!
Its what developers use to test apps.
You can access system partition(can only copy files from phone not push), and data partition. android commander is something you would like to use as a ADB file manager. There's many guides online to get adb working. But this is all done on a PC.
Also you can access data partition with a non-rooted phone, and I'm sure you can copy stuff from it with root explorer for example. I'm not sure about putting files in that partition and editing .xml and .txt with root explorer though.

Accidently uninstalled stock messaging - impossible to get system/app to r/w?

Is there no way to get system/app to r/w? Been trying every app and terminal command to let me remount so I can reinstall my backup of the messaging apk and it just doesn't work.
I use Root Explorer and have had no problem using"Mount R/W" in system/app.

Bleh. Copied to system/app, still get application not installed. Reboot with it in there and it doesn't show up either. At a loss here.

Here you go. You'll need to rename the file to delete the .zip extension.

Yep, they're set correctly
Now it's giving me the option to update or new install this system app. Problem is I don't see an already installed version obviously.
try downloading a custom rom for your cellphone, just for extracting the messaging app

have you tried to use adb to install it?
