What settings is everyone using to get the most outta there desires hd battery!?
I know it will take at least 4 cycles to get the best outta the battery, but at the moment I can literally see the battery draining, its not good! I lost 30% within an hour and half! :0(
I'm using advanced task manager, and it never seems to kill all running apps straight away when I hit end all!

1. Dont use task killers...it doesnt work with Froyo and it doesnt help...uninstall it.
2. Empty the battery to the 0% and leave it on charge when phone is off all night.
3. Turn it ON and use it untill it die again...then again turn it off and charge it for 3 hourse. Turn it on...its calibrated
4. Use 2G if you dont need 3G
5. Use max 70% of display light
6. Use only must have online update programs
Thats all...I did that on HD2 and I didnt have any problems for all day...and I used it normaly. In stand by it was 1,5% per hour... with mp3 was 10% in 1hour...etc...
Have fun!
How come task killers don't work? How do I stop apps from running in the background now then without a task killer? Won't this kill the battery more??

No it wont...its like using a notebook... if you have notepad, browser, and solitair opened...but not working with them...they will not use your processor and energy...it will only use your RAM memory... And thats the same with android..BUT after some tome (for example 6hours) if you dont use some app...the phone will automaticlly turn the app off. And in any posiblle way you would never use more than 400MB of 765MB RAM ...so memory is not a problem

My first post here on XDA so hi
Now, I'll just correct you a little. Your example was pretty much correct and a nice one, but Android OS doesn't kill tasks when amount X of time has passed. Android kills tasks when it needs more RAM (=when there are too many processes running), it kills the least used process. Android OS usually runs loads of different processes, the cool thing is that they don't consume any battery because they are not actually used. These processes are stored in the phone's RAM memory, whether there is something stored in the RAM or not, the RAM chip uses the same amount of electricty. Thus processes that exist but are not in any applications' use, don't consume battery. Therefore you don't need a task killer, in fact a task killer reduces your battery life because it kills the processes and then the phone has to restart them, and this cycle continues over and over.
So which is the best way to come out of an app? Back button or the home?

Both are as good, it makes no difference.
I have found that turning auto sync off when not essential saves my battery quite a lot. If I need to check something ill refresh that app. Once I'm near a place I could charge ill switch it back on.
Just a suggestion. Try it and see how it goes for you..

How do i turn off 3G and use 2G network? And how do i turn on 3G when i want to use it?
For some reason after a hard reset everything seems to work fine. Sms messages receiving in time (had installed task killer which i think made the problem possible) and all of a sudden 3G and HSDPA is available. So battery life all of a sudden is less to so how do i change this?

You can go to settings/wireless and network/mobile networks/network mode/gsm only
You can also install extended controls widget wich has a widget wich takes you directly to that screen. A direct switch is not available in this ROM.

Do you have a source esp. regarding this piece?: the cool thing is that they don't consume any battery because they are not actually used. Circle battery mod
This is still kinda on topic, but I find it's much easier to get a feel for battery life, or what's using it all up, if you have something that actually gives you values all the time. I have a circle battery mod, but a percent meter or widget is just as good. It's nice to have it in your face, instead of either intuition or constantly going into your settings to look up the value.
Just my two cents!

Hello. I need an opinion, i've been using cyanogenmod 5.0.7.
Just back to my home pc. After using for 1 day i must say that battery life is a issue. I really dont know what is. I've been monitoring all the apps. to see if there was any CPU change. Is LauncherPro responsible for battery drain?
In almost 13 hours the battery was reduced from 100% to 24% . My settings at SetCpu are:
Usualy have only 2G signal in order to save battery.
Sleepmode 128 as minimum and maximum. In normal use is 528 as Maximum and 245 as minimum ( i tested for 5 hours with 352 Mhz as maximum , anoying that the performance wasnt very good so i changed back).
Stock of new radio roms, have as default 480Mhz as minimum and 528Mhz as Maximum for what i saw in SetCPU last time i used the Sense UI 1.5 Stock by cursordroid. IT lasted me around 1 day and like 10 more hours with same use as this time.
I would request higly some opinion about this, so that i may know what to do in order to have a better battery life.
I used around 3 hours of music daily, near 30 min of internet (it varies according to my needs). Phone Calls (around 1 hour at max). Some text messaging. And 20-40 min of playing games and checking apps for fun entertainement (This i dont do daily but since was todays use i leave here) .
Also noticed as stated above about the Signal reception (reception is in maximum but call gets lost easily compared to a normal ROM and new radio (not sure if is only new radio)). Is alot worst than usual. I dont know the reason. But with sense ui worked perfectly well.
I think these are the most important issues wich must be dealt with in my opinion and i hope next release will be accounted.
Battery life and signal reception or if you can help, and sorry if this is not a issue of the rom, a possible solution.
Thank you!
Some battery saving tips:
- Go into spare parts and make sure the end call button makes the phone go to sleep.
- Turn off market notifications (Go to the market, then downloads, then hit menu and then notifications).
- Turn down the brightness as low as you stand it.
- Kind of an obvious one, but get a task manager and periodically kill apps running in the background that you're not using.
- Speaking of apps running in the background, lower the refresh rate of apps to as low as you can. Or simply turn off background data use and refreshing entirely.
- Turn off wifi/bluetooth/GPS when you're not using them.
- Use as few widgets as you can.

This is plain WRONG.
Do try ADW Launcher instead of Launcher Pro. It won't help with your reception issues though. I had the same problem with CM on old radio. The other was GPS (didn't work).

Apps running in the background = better battery? Please explain.
i'll try as you suggested. it is very important. i'm testing now the port for new radio. Reception is great compared to the one before.
Lets see how it works for now =) I'm waitig for new update seems there is some battery drain issues going on CM 507
Also try using CM 5.0.8 test 1. I've noticed improved performance. I came across one thread that also suggested the Facebook program was causing drain. By turning off all the Facebook sync and notifications, I'm highly improved battery life.

Most apps that are in the background aren't running, they are sleeping and not using any CPU. For continued background activity the app would have to implement a service, which would be pointless for most apps.
I get 10 hours out of mine with complete eclair, and setcpu at 245 min and 614 max...Its stable and I do about 3-4 hours of music, moderate texting, and 115-30 min of web browsing of 3g...Oh and I only have about half signal.
507 was killing my battery... 508 seems to be better so far
actually after a experimenting 508 isnt that great either... it lasted about 11 hours... a listened to the radio most of the day and a few songs for about an hour... one phone call for about a minute... and its dead
the best Cm 5 battery life for me has been test 7...
Hmmm I look at it this way, if you clock to low it will take longer to finish whatever process its doing and will kill the battery faster, if you clock it to you, you will be poring to much voltage towards the cpu killing your battery...Idk if mines is best but its clocked at 614 and has been great so far.
I'm using CM 5.0.8 t1 and battery life is great: 24 hrs+. I DON'T use Facebook, Twitter, SMS or Market update check. I do sync Gmail, contacts, calendar and weather. I do use some internet, not a lot.
Wrong
Never use a task manager. Applications running in the background doesnt mean that they are running. The might be sharing resources with another ( or sharing threads). So never killl apps. Android has its own service manager which tells the phone to run on optimised settings. Killing a process will again require the other app to start again.

Correct, just like windows, and force closing some apps can cause the o/s to become unstable...
I installed Spare Parts and saw that my phone was never sleeping, even though it was on standby all the time.
This was caused by the location by antenna feature.
Ever since i unchecked that feature i've had around 50-60 hours of uptime, with a few calls and a lot of texts.
hope this helps alot others
With the new firmware the problem of battery dissapears completely
There is a known issue with network location detection in android 1.6. I had the same issue with my galaxy and it was solved. Now that we have root, we can hopefully do the same.
Also, br aware that I have found spare parts to actually stop the phone from sleeping, as well as tapatalk. I suggest rebooting after using either program.

Actually that issue is fixed in the latest update so it's already fixed without needing root.
Which firmware? I know I'm still experiencing it.
RBA020 solved the battery issues for me.
Where in spare parts does it show you if your phone has been sleeping?
you don't need spare parts. Just dial *#*#4636#*#* and click battery history and then the running bar.

I hope this means that under Location, you had Wireless Networks and Assisted GPS enabled.
One question tho... how did you isolate this feature as the one that was keeping the system awake?
I just found that my phone has been running most of the time, I see Running at 100% under Battery History. Then I select Partial Wake usage and see Android System has the largest share. But what part of Android System? how does one get to know?
I know from having a Samsung galaxy and being part of the androidforums community that was going nuts until Simone found a bug report with Google saying that network location was stopping devices from sleeping. We had root so a Dev applied a patch to services.odex and voila! Phones were napping again.

Didn't know that there was an XDA App till I saw your sig. Looks like its worth a try since its free!!
Update after turning location off completely
Well first run with all location methods disabled (I can still enable GPS quickly via a widget when I need to use it)... the battery performance is up phenomenally!!
I charged fully before going to bed last night, then kept the phone unplugged... woke up and found the battery was at 97%. This has never happened to me.
Ok, one thing tho, I use Juice Defender with night time schedule, so my wifi and 3G were off during most of the night. Anyways, its been around 3 hours since I woke up, and I've been using the phone on and off to do some browsing.
The battery is now at 93%.
I do not use any other aid other than Juice Defender... no task killers, no startup editors. Will update on how the rest of the day progresses.
EDIT: my thanks to Inebriatef and adrianoftyriel for pointing this out.

I too would like to hear a bit more. Could the OP please elaborate?
I'm running the latest FW and although my battery life increased exponentially, I find that it's not going to sleep anymore! I had close to 50 hours battery life and now I repeat everything to get just under 20 hours.
I don't use task killers and crap anymore, just before I put my phone away. If I don't, I have a trillion programs running with like 40mb of RAM free. Although I understand this is Linux based, these programs are RUNNING and not idle. All my **** is draining the battery again after a clean reinstall of everything. What a bummer.

@bongd, by latest FW, do you mean the R2BA020? If yes, then you shouldn't be affected by the problem being reported here. I'm still on R1FB001, which apparently has this Android 1.6 bug related to location.
As in my case, simply by disabling location settings (even though this reports that network location is the culprit, I disabled them all), the phone is now able to suspend itself and basically consume very little battery in standby.
Personally, I dont see any issue with lot of applications running and having little RAM left because I trust the Android system to manage it efficiently. Furthermore, the RAM on these phones is not as fast as what you would see typically on desktop systems, so it actually helps having things around in memory rather than aggressively cleaning it out. Checkout this link to understand a bit more about Android task management features: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/04/multitasking-android-way.html
I suggest you use Spare Parts to isolate your battery drain, there might be some app that is misbehaving and hogging systems resources. Also turning off very frequent updates/refresh intervals in some applications is the way forward.
I found through trial and error that fancy widgets keeps my phone from sleeping.sad cause I really want to use it.

Thanks, j4mm3r. I am using R2BA020. It looks like I have some diagnostic troubleshooting to do when I get home.
Sitting here at work charging my phone, it isn't loading craploads of programs anymore. And it seems to be sleeping okay. I'll play around when I have some free time.
Fixed my problem big time
Hey guys,
I just wanted to throw my two cents into the pot.
OK – so after experimenting with Task Killers, Task Managers, Spare Parts, Juice Defender, etc. I came to the conclusion that they (for the most part) did more bad than good. It was getting to the point that I was just starting to accept that “The X10 just has ****ty battery life” end of story.
I also read in a Google released post on the web, that there are a number of reasons that Task Killers, etc. are actually not required to end tasks. Android actually has a fairly intelligent and systematic approach to killing tasks that are not being used. I haven’t used any sort of proprietary battery saver, task ender, startup cleaner, etc. and I’ve been having the best phone performance since I got the headset.
The time now (Eastern Standard) is 3:30pm on Monday. The last time I charged my phone was Saturday evening at 6pm, and currently I am showing 24% battery remaining. Let those numbers do the talking!
My settings are:
Wi-Fi always off unless I am going to be actively using it (browsing)
Using Phone info, I change WCDMA Preferred to GSM Only (enables 2g instead of 3g without disabling data altogether)
GPS always off
Screen settings, brightness, etc. I believe have a much smaller effect than people tend to believe. The SINGLE BIGGEST factors for me, and noticing this huge increase in battery life are:
Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update -> UNCHECK Automatic Search (this constantly searches the market, etc. for app updates and what not)
Cycle power immediately after charging. Once my phone completes its charge, I turn off and then on again.
I hope that some people can enjoy moderately extended battery life as I have. I am SO ecstatic to be at HOUR 43 and still at 20%+
Worth mentioning also that I am on Rogers (Canada) and have not received any updates, so this extended battery life is not a result of a firmware update.
How I Fixed My Batter Life Problem
My Incredible would run dead in about 4 hrs doing nothing. I finally dug into several "task killer" programs and found that about 20 - 30 apps were invisibily running in the background constantly. As soon as I permanently killed them, my battery life went to normal. I can now get about 2 days of normal use on 1 charge. Even a day of pretty heavy use will last almost all day.
So for me, it was all the new apps I installed when I first got the phone that were running in the background. The free "task killer" program was not showing them. I finally found the app called "System Panel." It was the ONLY app that would show me all the "invisible" apps that were still running invisibly in the background and let me kill them. Once I killed them with System Panel, they stayed dead and the free "task killer" program could auto-kill them from them on.
Not sure why the free programs could not see the rogue apps, but my battery life is GREAT now.

I'm running R2BA023 and I am struggling to get a full day from the phone at the moment. It normally lasts around 12 hours and then its flat.
However, I ran the Telenor R2BA020 update and I manage to get a full day with ease.
I have just done a clean install of R2BA023 Generic UK "root" edtion and going to see how I get on. What I did notice before is that the phone was not returning to a idle state.

Yeah ive been using the Advanced Task Killer for a while now already.
I have read that usage of ATK is not required at all because of Androids near perfect RAM Management. And you also could come into trouble because android looses a small amount of ram capacity every time you use ATK untill the next reboot.
other than that you could try Juice Plotter and Juice Defender
find a app can auto turn on/off fly mode.
I ve tried Juicy defender, it seems not fit wildfire very well, some function not working. like auto fly mode, and auto turn off wifi when over 50M.
(btw,it will change your apn setting, cause me can not connect after uninstall it.)
after 1 month, I found navigation app take me 80% of battery.like google map/navi.

Not sure if these steps actually improve the efficency of the battery OR wheter the S/W behind the battery guage becomes more accurate as it goes through a process that alows it to better estimate the SOC of the battery.

Yup, even I have read a lot that Android manages the apps in a beautiful way. When I first used Android, the first question that came to my mind was how to exit apps as none of the apps had an exit button. Coming from nokia, sony erricson etc this was an obvious question to ask. Then after some research I found that Android just freezes the apps when we go back. The app is not actually running in the back end.
But anyway, yesterday my battery again went to 8% and on checking the used status, it showed that the android system used 92% of the battery lol.
One more thing I would like to suggest is that there is a Power control widget built in the wildfire. Its pretty useful to decrease the brightness, turn off gps, wifi etc from the home screen itself.

I installed this widget and it said that GPS was on even though it wasn't appearing in the tool bar along the top. I had run several apps that use GPS, but had assumed if the GPS icon was gone, GPS was off.
Is that wrong?
(good news if it is, as I was struggling to keep enough power to in my phone to get through the day without charging)

Avoid task killers like the plague. They cause more problems than they solve. Trust the android os to manage ram.
Just discovered the most powerful app I have ever seen called "Tasker". It its only £4, but will make your android so much more diverse. You can, for example, have it go into airplane mode between certain times (i have between midnight and 6am) but periodically check for sms or voice mail every hour. It saves stacks of battery.
I have it turning wifi on only when it knows I'm at home or at work.
I have it turning off wifi, dropping screen brightness down, and playing a louder notification when battery gets to 15%.
It silences my phone when I get within 100m of the two cinemas I use.
It is not the most easy app to use, be patient with it. Look up some of the "recipes" on the internet to get a good tutorial on how to work it. £4 is a steal for something so potentially vast. Its limited only by your imagination.
Oh and having run Tasker for 24 hours, (how long my battery normally lasts) only contributes to a 2% drain, and its adding roughly 6 to 8 hours extra! It would cost you ten times that for an extended battery!
I use an free app called timeriffic to auto disable WiFi

Try program JuiceDefender....you can download free from Android market.
my battery life is really awful too,i noticed it a couple days ago, that it drains to fast,so i started looking into it,and i found out, that my device won't go too sleep. so in settings/about phone/battery the awake time and up time are the same. i had similar problems on my hero, but there it was the messaging apps fault.
here, i kill everything with advanced task killer,it still can't go too sleep, android battery use shows, that android system is using most of the battery.
anybody else with similar problem?solutions? i have stock 1.25 rom rooted with unrevoked.
What? You mean your screen is permanently on? .....
Ive head bad things about using task killers too, I dont use on anymore.
Some things i have done that have helped my battery like quit alot actually is turn off Wi-Fi, Turm off GPS, Turned off haptic feedback(vibration when pressing buttons), Screen brightness to automatic & screen timeout too 15 seconds.
I can now have a really good fiddle with the phone and it can last more than a day without needing a charge.
As I understand when screen goes auto shut off, all apps are idle, even WiFi or gps is on. I tried with music on continuously for 2 hrs in flight mode, I still have about 80% power. With gps on for 1 hr continuous, I still have about 80%. With normal use my power can last the whole day.

no,the screen turns off,but something still runs in the background what eats the battery, and I can't find out what it is. I tried multiple task managers, and they show that everything is closed.i have it in flight mode, with everything turned off, still something runs, what shouldn't.
Did you solve this? It's happening on my phone now, and it's very frustrating.
(just installed ATK - very scary the apps I never use are running) and killed everything except ATK. Touch the power switch to turn off the screen. 15 minutes later, up time and awake time are still the same.

2 updates from me, to help anyone else with similar problems:
1) I uninstalled any recently installed or updated apps** and widgets now I have a 1:6 ratio of awake time. So, fixed?
2) In the meantime I logged a call to HTC via their website. Answer:
With regards to your problem, if the battery is going down significantly and you have turned of applications when your not using them and used task killer. It might be better to call us up so we cann look into it further and we might have to book the phone in for repair especially if you have noticed it not charging properly or overheating at any time.

Yup, those problems started occurring at the same time as the other, so it looks like I have an underlying hardware fault. Dammit! I don't want to be without my phone for 2 weeks.

**including CardioTrainer! When I reinstalled it I'd lost around 900km of workout history.
Just out of curiosity
What gain of time are we actually talking about here ?
I tried lots of different things but never suceeded to receive more than two full days.
What is your max. with all the different programs and hints ?

If you are asking me, the answer is "about 6 hours".
I've (partially) fixed my uptime = awaketime problem. But I obviously have some more serious battery issue.
Hopefully someone else can chime in with happy battery life.

Anyone used this app? I tried it and it boosted my memory from 123 mb to 180 mb.
i know "if you have free memory you're wasting it". but in my opinion this combined with advanced task killer will improve battery life a lot.
its on android market, just type memory booster
Lol I experimented with these kind of apps, my opinion is that they are pretty much pointless.
I simply tell things not to auto update and removed unused junk.
Did the trick for me.

I'll bite. How will having more free memory improve battery life?
You don't need third party apps. You have to determine which app is eating your battery life. The only thing memory booster is doing is disrupting Android's memory management processes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
if it could activate the full ram potential of the handset then it would be worth while but i dont see the point in the extra mem for app's.
Like I said I simply stop stuff auto updating and therefore save battery life as no apps are active, merely sitting in ram.

I only kill programs when I want my phone in standby because I know I won't be using it. Or with programs that can still run in the background and stay active when they shouldn't.
Other than that, don't be a frequent task killer. It's not an iPhone, it's an Android phone. As much as I loathe my Xperia X10 it's far better than an iTurd.

Way to try to prove your cool by trying to inject irrelevant crap into the discussion. Especially ****e you obviously know sweet fa about. You do realize that when you get down to the nuts and bolts the memory management is almost identical in iOS and Android? Only difference is how it's exposed to apps. My gf has my iPhone 4 now, trust me, calling it an iTurd just makes you look a bit special - and not in a good way either.
P.S. task killers made sense on phones like mt3g that were memory limited, when you went to launch a big app like gallery it popped up straight away if there was free ram - when memory was all spoken for, the system would have to kill a bunch a tasks, so it'd hang for a while before launching your app. Can't say I noticed the need for that on my X10.

It isn't the free memory that saves battery. It's the applications being "killed" that otherwise would need some battery power as they lie in the background doing things. Even sleeping applications have some "attention" from the kernel and that will drain (slightly) on the battery too. Every drip-drop counts.

And every time you want to use an app, will have to be reloaded in memory wasting more power for that task.
Anyhow, do it your way ...
The rest of the world is just stupid.
This constant debate of whether app management apps work or not is really irrelevant. Some work, some don't. Just try and find that out.
Once I listened to posters here and decided not to use ATK because of the reasoning that Android is efficient by itself. Wrong. My battery kept draining fast. Once I started using ATK and modifying the program here and there, my battery's energy consumption actually slowed down and I can go through a whole day without charging. My settings? Put ATK on safe mode and auto kill every half hour, and ignore SE's own backup app (for some reason, killing SE backup caused a disruption with the data/signal for a second).
So for everyone, just try and see whatever is recommended works.
Exactly my point. I used to use atk with similar settings to yourself and experienced greater battery drain.
I get better results with my method.
We all use our phones in different ways so it follows we would experience differing results.

I'm trying to figure out how some people drain the batteries so fast. I have my phone set up as a wifi accesspoint, I'm using bluetooth, autosyncing my gmail and calendar but still I get more than a full day use out of it. If I listen to music over a bluetooth headset constantly I can't last a day but the juice in my headset tends to run out faster.
I can't for the life of me figure out what people do. I'm not using any task killers or what have you but still get between 18 and 24 hours of heavy usage.
I was using a task killer before reading on here about how they are useless and whatnot. But I find my phone freezes up more now that I am not using it. The battery seems to be around the same. All I do is text and use facebook and it seems to freeze up when texting or typing half the time. I am kind of wondering if it's because I text so quickly..
Just to clear things up a bit:
Many applications out there are bad.
Applications that are some real heavy battery hogs, even when prefetched in the background.
Those bad applications keeps downloading adverts now and then, executing instructions while in the background, and so on. Those applications doesn't have any sleep/standby routines , or the routines are empty.
Some applications are so badly written, they're running at "full speed" no matter what. Those extremely bad applications keeps the CPU at full speed even when in standby mode.
A good sign of this is when the phone gets hot, even when not used. It's the CPU that heats up the device.
The programmers of these bad applications have no whatsoever experience with Androids "sleep and standby" functions and therefor left them empty or half-done.
This is why killing applications helps for some, and not for others.
It all depends if one got one or more "bad" applications installed.
And Android aren't too smart either. It'll just prefetch, to what it seems, a random bunch of applications.
For me Android prefetch apps I rarely use, and skips the applications I use everyday. Weird?
If one would keep the device clean and keep those bad applications out, (of which noone can tell if it's a bad app or not. There's nothing visibly wrong about them) one wouldn't need a separate task-killer. Or if EVERY single application out there where perfectly written, accordingly to the Android model.
hi everyone,
i just wanna share my experience with my Samsung Galaxy S.
i have finally managed to keep the phone running with "normal phone usage" for more than 1 day
it is true that the multimedia features usage was to the minimum but still
2 Days, 16 hours and 43 minutes is an excellent number,
and still i have 15% remaining in the battery!!!
Check the screenshots below.
All what i have done is:
1- installed Voodoo lagfix
project-voodoo.org/download
2- installed Advanced Task Manager (ATM)
getandroidstuff.com/advanced-task-manager-android-download-v50/
And make sure to enable the Auto-End Running Apps features in ATM, i have used the 30 minutes frequency.
i am still unable to believe the difference that i got from this combination.
Voodoo has really fixed the lag issue and apps are running so smooth.
and with ATM installed the battery life has reached unbelievable numbers.
the installation for Voodoo was so easy and no complications, i have just used the update.zip file and it was so fast and easy.
check this yourself and tell me what you got from it.
cheers.
EDIT:
i forgot to mention that i am using ADW.Launcher instead of TWLauncher.
That's nice.
My record with light usage was 4.5 days.
In that particular case, I still had 50% after 3 days but made a lot of calls on day 4 so the battery went down quicker.
Key setting is to switch the phone to 2g when not needing 3g and also turn off the internet connection through the mobile provider and only use WIFI where available.
Very nice usage, but do you have push email active?
Congratulations abuatwan but i still think you could get longer from your battery. You say you have Advanced Task Manager running and set to start up every 30 minutes.
That costs power to start that up (as does any app) and when its killed whichever apps/processes its deemed to, if they start back up...well that's even more power lost lol
Android has its own task scheduler/killer built in and really all you are doing is battling your own system.
This will explain in much more detail, even if you don't understand everything mentioned read on and try to take in as much as possible.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
I do agree though that with the galaxy, something needs to be done as it does in a way run better with a task killer (not counting the battles and power costs)
I use a free program called Auto Killer Memory Optimizer which tweaks androids built in task killer meaning you use your system as it should be
I've had mine running on 'moderate' preset setting for 2 weeks now and i wouldn't dream of installing any other task killer

The default setting for killing empty_app processes on Galaxy S is 48 MB. The moderate setting on autokiller is 40 MB, so you are actually *decreasing* the memory tolerance, making the memory management worse! I agree with you about the article, but with a strict setting you will see much better performance, try it.
My SGS keep 3 days max with normal use with disable the data connection with GSM and 3G
I do 2 days with browsing and stuff, seems my battery drains less quickly on wifi then it does with 3g or H =\ killing stuff with ATK is pretty handy as some stuff that i never use don't really mater to keep running in the background.

no, during this period i have turned it off, actually i have turned off the Auto-sync option.
i have played some games, used the browser (over Wi-fi) and used GPS but that was very minimal.

great,
if i can just change the default likker setings, i believe that will save lot's of battery
Definitely i will install "Auto Killer Memory Optimizer" and will try both profiles, the moderate and the strict.
Thank you
I do get this with my normal usage, 2 days and some hours - can't remember exactly. I have wifi on constantly, 3g when outside, autosync and push always on, autobrightness, no task managers or lag fixes.. Just stock JM2 :]
I have never managed to get more than a day's usage out of my phone. Today my display has been on for 1h37m and the phone has been off the charger for 5.5 hours, my battery is down to 66%.
good luck, in 3 weeks or so you'll need to do a factory reset because the SGS software/file system is a P.O.S

Ahh well that's new to me, Thank you Tyxerakias. I do wonder what else this app is tweaking then because using Super Manager memory widget i had noticed that i would get slight lag when swiping screens if the reported memory was showing around or below 70mb. The 70mb figure might be wrong as i use a lagfix but the point is that to me around 70mb showing = lag. After installing Auto Killer Memory Optimizer i would sometimes see as low as 50mb but still no lag. I got rid of the memory widget after that as it was just displaying useless info and taking up screen space.
I would be tempted to try the strict setting but my phone honestly flies on moderate and ive also heard if you set it too strict then it can end up killing off things like the clock which means your alarm will then fail.

why 3 weeks? are you referring to the Froyo update? and what is P.O.S?
Personally i wouldn't mind doing a factory reset if you ARE meaning for Froyo as flashing Froyo will reset it anyway...2 resets is no more loss than 1 reset if you are backed up and ready to flash

lol ahh i get it now, he means the file structure in the Galaxy. Samsung chose to use their own rather than a proper linux structure and i've seen many devs also saying how it was a very bad choice.
Well i've had mine for over 2 months now and no loss of data or anything yet so its fingers crossed here lol..........i will be backing important things up as a precaution too
Yes, that app is useful and i am confident you have noticed that
I don't use a task killer, they drain the battery.
I'm pretty sure you would get the same battery usage with screen on vs. screen on and movie playing. Playing a 2h movie drained my battery for 25%, screen on for 2h was about the same so...
I just use Juice Defender ultimate just to be able to select a few features:
- Activate Data/Wifi for 5min every 2h (would be better every 4/6hours but whatever...)
- Data / Wifi off when i sleep
- Leave data/Wifi on when the screen is on
Basically, my phone only syncs / uses data when my screen is on (or every 2h just to push emails if needed)
I noticed that this really really helped me. 3G and screen on really kill your battery
