Hello, i finally got my Hero. loaded a new ROM onto it and rooted it, but i´m having some trouble with the market app. whenever i try to open it it just says loading "android market terms of service" and stays there forever, the only choice is to wait longer og choose decline.
I´ve triyed both on wifi and gprs connection, and every other application on the phone can use both connections to browse and so on.just not android market..
Here is a little infor about the phone to help you figur my problem out.
ROM: update-hero-modacocustomrom-1.1-signed
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25
Kernel version: 2.6.27-a550404199 [email protected] #521
Build number: 1.79.482.3 14733 CL#49365 release keys
Software version 1.0.0.A6288
Hope some kind soul is willing to help me out, thank you in advance.
I just put 1.1 on my Hero a few hours ago, and Market is still working fine for me. i did update the radio first though; you might want to try that.
otherwise, it could just be Market playing up, not at all unusual in my experience...
Updated the radio to this version, "update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06_6.35.05.15-signed" still no luck getting allowed to accept the terms of service, but i seems that the phone now has better signal strenght to the phone net.
After apoximitly 5 minutes i get a window instead of the loading screen where is says "Attention. An error has occured. Please try again later."
this sounds similar to teh connection errors that people are experiencing when they skip the sign in process during the initial set up. In general,m the only solution to that is to hard reset and sign in to google at the very first opportunity, during the set up screens and before you ever see the touchflo homescreen.
of course, it could just be a proxy in the APN settings.....
Year, i had that problem on the first time i changed the ROM, on that occasion i skipped the google account setup, and couldn´t use any program the used the internet.
But on this install i did do the sign in on first boot, and every program other that market that uses the internet or GPRS is working (weather, browser, mail, stock´s and so on)
Only thing that won´t start is the market tearms of service.
I had the exact same problem.
You need to contact your service provider and get the APN settings for your provider. After you have entered them in connect to marketplace over 3G and you should be fine.
My problem was caused by my phone company, Chess.no, shipping the unit with APN settings for Netcom! Obviously with a Chess sim inside the phone had some connectivity problems. Once the Chess APN settings were in I got connected straight away.
are you using wifi or 3g? I heard that market likes to make it's initial connection over 3G....
sadly i have a locked t-mobile G2 so i don't have any of these problems, i just sign in and it is automatically set up for me over 3G.
Arctic Matt was spot on, there was no APN profile in the phone, just made one with a name. after that it worked instantly.
Thanks alot.
Thanks for listening
I cannot believe that Scandinavian mobile providers, with their lazy ass coffee drinking cake eating lifestyle, have failed to notice this problem. If you look around on other forums (Google, Chess, Netcom) there are tons of people with this shortfall. I am so sick of this constant crap in Norway that I am moving my entire family over to Canada! In Norway, the technology is there and people want it but the companies providing it are infested by tech thick 50 year old management morons who are incapable of overseeing projects.
Just imagine if you were not a member of xda devs and have just got this phone as an average Joe. No apps! No help! ...and they wonder why people hack the phones to hell.
Glad I could help.
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've got the exact same problem and have tried everything listed here. I had this issue on my LG Optimus One running Froyo, I flashed with a new ROM and still have the same problem.
I tried:
1. Master Reset through the phone (3 times!)
2. Entering APN and connecting via the mobile network before using WiFi (also tried WiFi first before using mobile network, no difference).
3. Signing in through the YouTube App and ensuring sync was on, yes that works, and I can see my Gmail, but still can't sign into the Market.
After (3), each time I try to open the Market I get " An error has occurred. Please try again later." and the Market just exits.
Anyone have any other solutions which might work??

Sometimes your provider will block your connection to market, until you verify that you are over 18 (as a child proofing method) etc.. (even on wifi, somehow)
at least that was a problem with someone I knew.. .. I assume master reset would clear market data and cache?

I don't think that's my issue, I've used my SIM as well as many other SIMs in other Android phones to access the market, it just seems to be an issue with this particular handset, oh well its weird!
Did you find a solution to your problem? I just flashed Android 2.2 to my HD2 and have a similar problem, only android market wont work.
Thanks!

I am having this same error as well.
Okay so i had to download an app called MoreLocale2 and force the locale to English(United States) and hard reset the phone. Worked fine after that. Hope it helps!
Android market just works here if google talks is enabled and connected...
Hi all,
I've also posted this on the CyanogenMod forums (can't post the link because I'm a new user), but I think a lot more people read this xda forum than the CM forum.
I'm trying to see if there's a pattern among people who have this problem with CM6 or other Froyo ROMs on Heroc. If you have this problem, it would be great if you could post the following info...
** Edit: 9/21: Information on diagnosing the problem and a temporary workaround **
I've found that this problem can have multiple causes. You can diagnose between them by looking at the log with "adb logcat" after you get the "can't establish a reliable data connection" error. Search for "Checkin failed" and then look at the following line which gives an indication why it failed to connect. I've seen two types of problems, but there may be more.
The first type, indicated by lines like those below, mean that your phone really can't establish a reliable connection to the Google servers. Either you have an intermittent wifi or data connection, there's a problem with your internet connection, or Google is being blocked somehow. In some cases, connections to Google servers have been temporarily blocked in certain countries. These problems will typically fix themselves after some time or if you go somewhere with better a wifi or data signal, etc.
Code:
E/CheckinTask( 247): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
E/CheckinTask( 247): java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
E/CheckinTask( 182): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
E/CheckinTask( 182): java.net.SocketTimeoutException: SSL handshake timed out
E/CheckinTask( 298): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
E/CheckinTask( 298): java.io.IOException: Rejected response from server: HTTP/1.1 401 bad security token
The second type of error message indicates that there's a problem with your phone's MEID (CDMA) or IMEI (GSM). More than likely, your phone has had its ID number changed to use it on another network in place of an older phone (don't ask about this because it's illegal and against the forum rules). With Android 2.2, it appears that Google are checking for a valid MEID/IMEI before allowing access to some of the Google apps.
Code:
E/CheckinTask( 332): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
E/CheckinTask( 332): java.io.IOException: Rejected response from server: HTTP/1.1 400 invalid hardware identifier: "00000000000000" is not a valid MEID (expect 14 hex digits)
ERROR/CheckinTask(355): Checkin failed: https://android.clients.google.com/checkin (request #0)
ERROR/CheckinTask(355): java.io.IOException: Rejected response from server: HTTP/1.1 400 invalid hardware identifier: invalid IMEI (expect 15 decimal digits)
There is a temporary workaround for this, courtesy of gedster314 on these forums, via tigerbalm on the mobile-files.us forum.
This is to put the phone into airplane mode, reboot, stay in airplane mode but turn on wifi (so that the cellular radio doesn't get turned on), and then login to the Market.
It appears that the MEID/IMEI can only be read when the cellular radio is turned on, so if it's turned off from boot up, the Google apps can't send anything to the servers to be checked.
This fix is not permanent, however, as this checkin and validation happens periodically (I'm guessing every few weeks), and according to reports, it sounds like the Market and some other Google Apps will disappear at this time. To fix this, you will need to have a backup from which you can restore. Reflashing the Google Apps may also work.

If you've come to this thread looking for a solution, I don't have one for the Market problem, but it's possible to get GMail, Calendar, Contacts and Picasa to sync by launching the Youtube app and logging in, making sure you enter at gmail.com after your email address. Then go to Settings->Accounts&Sync, select your GMail account, and enable all the items you want to sync.
I'll start

5. Don't have data on STi

I had this problem with cm6 9-18 building running brainfuct kernal. I reflashed before I even opened the market I logged in to google talk. It worked perfect. But it does seem to be a problem. Google talk is required for the market to run. So I think after you flash new rom. All the apps being restored takes some much resources of your data services downloading so many apps at once prevents talk from logging in. After some long not being able to sign in it will stop trying to do so. There by breaking the market. I'm not a dev or nothing, but that's my thoughts on it.

me too cant login with stable
Did any of you flash the GAPPS?
I want to assume that you all did, but figured I'd ask before the inevitable flame war begins on this thread.
Not sure if this is really on topic but maybe someone will stumble upon this and be able to help me.
I rm gmail.apk, googlesearchbox.apk, and voice search (don't remember the name of the package) from system/app and then installed them all from the marketplace. Prior to doing this gmail worked fine, was able to sync and get push notifications also when pressing the hardware search key google search would launch; now I am unable to sync gmail and therefor I am not getting push notifications, pressing the hardware search key does nothing (note long pressing still brings up all the actions tied to that button)
I am running cm6 nightly 9-05 though this shouldn't matter since the problems occurred after the rm and are prob in some way related to that.
I just want the most recent versions of these apps and want to be able to get them from the market instead of waiting for an update to be bundled
Mostly the market issue is because of Gtalk not signing in properly. Make sure to clear market data to along with rebooting.

6. No, I tried everything, reflashing without wiping, clearing market data, reflashing Gapps, changing status on Gtalk (which I never use) and then clearning market data, removing gmail account and re-signing in, waiting two days or more for it to "fix itself". I ended up wiping and flashing to "fix" the problem. it's not a huge deal to me since I I'm a "ROM whore" and always have to have the newest and greatest.
7. Sprint all the way

What feefee said. The market has a strange dependence on Gtalk working properly, and if Gtalk isn't working right, you won't be able to make the connection from your phone to the market
1. Network :Reliance, India
2. When did you first install CM6? right from the beginning, all nightlies
3. When did you first experience this problem? with rc1 & now CM6 final
4. Does it happen when you connect over wifi?not checked
5. Does it happen when you connect over 3G? i use 2G/1x Data
6. Has the problem gone away, and if so, did it fix itself or how did you fix it? problem is not gone.. somehow network is not working
7. If you're comfortable mentioning it, was your phone was originally on this network, or flashed over from another carrier (e.g. a Sprint phone flashed to work on Alltel) sprint flashed over for reliance, network worked till till last 9/11 nightly
Great idea to bring discussion over here...seems like not much activity at mobile-us. Here's my feedback:
1. Sprint
2. since first nightly
3. can't remember which nightly it was (it was several nights in)
4. yes problem happens with just wifi on
5. yes problem happens with just 3G on
6. problem fixed...see post #1...haha
7. phone has always been on Sprint (but with borrowed ESN that has all zero IMEI/MEID)
If you look at my post over at mobile-us, I mentioned I had one phone out of 3 with blank IMEI/MEID that had not had the Google sign-in problem yet...scratch that...this last phone experienced the dreaded Google sign-in problem today. I fixed it by following the directions outlined above.
i can understand this issue for gapps.. but what could be the issue if i am not able to get the data/internet itself to work ??
Thanks OP, gedster314, Tigerbalm, big thanks
I have had this issue with CM6 since i started using it.
i have the second error, been using the youtube workaround but with that, the market errors out at the terms and talk force closes at launch.
Finally tried this fix with airplane mode turned on at first start after skiping registration, restarting phone leaving airplane mode ON and connect with Wifi and login registration.
you mentioned the periodic imei checks, so flashing GAPPS on them would work, without needing to register, or you have to register with the same procedure again? in that case a nan restore would probably be better.
also, i noticed the new CM6 come already with Gapps out of the box, so no need for gapps flash in the beginning
problem seems back and airplane mode trick seems not working on cm6.1 rc1
any one could confirm

If you can sign into gtalk you can generally sign into the android market. They are somehow tied together.
Android market has some issues, it can't connect for a while will come back up. I been dealing with this the past 2 weeks. It happens intermittently.
If you can access it, but apps don't download try clearing cache and data of the following apps.
Clear Data and Cache from:
Checkin Service
Download Manager
Google Talk Service
Google Talk Storage
Market
Force close market and restart it
I've only noticed market issue after I flash a new rom. The market connects but won't actually "start" downloading. I have found that connecting to wifi somehow prods it into behaving as expected. What I mean is, download something over wifi from the market, disable it and then use 3g. Works for me... /shrugs
I had a unique problem that is now solved and I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else can benefit from it. I was unable to access any Google services over 3G cellular internet, but over WiFi it worked just fine.
I was also able to browse the web over cellular. My EVO is NAND unlocked and been running Fresh's ROM and also CyanogenMod.
Since I first noticed this with Android Market I tried clearing data for it and that didn't work. I also noticed Google Voice couldn't send/receive messages, so tried that as well and could not reinstall as AM wasn't working.
I restored a backup I had made days earlier and had the same results. I tried clearing cache/dalvik cache/etc. still no joy. I tried installing fresh after clearing data/cache/etc. etc. and it still did not change anything.
Finally I called Sprint and they instructed me to do the following:
Enter ##3282## into the phone keypad, select Edit.
Enter a password the tech gave me.
Go to Data -> Press Menu -> Press "Restore". Allow the phone to reboot.
It will go through a lot of different things -- ie: PRL update, firmware update, resetting your "profile" (in settings/update), etc.
It did not work after all of these things so he said he would reset all the "stuff on their end" and after he was finished it worked. I asked and he assured me it had nothing to do with any configuration on my phone. When I asked him to describe what it was he did to fix it, he said he "switched the provider/internet signature" which is on their end. This finally resolved the issue.
So, if you have these same exact symptoms -- you may benefit calling Sprint FIRST before wasting your time trying all those things that I did.
The problem that I am having is GTalk will hang at trying to connect for a very lengthy time. It works over WiFi just fine but over 3G or 4G it's sporadic. And when GTalk isn't connecting the market won't be able to complete a download either.
If it persists I'll give Sprint a call.

Well... you can certainly try and troubleshoot via your phone. Steps I tried with mine:
- Restarting the phone (lol)
- Clearing specific app data (settings -> applications)
- Reinstalling apps (couldn't do this because related to Market and did not have APKs)
- Clearing Dalvik cache/cache
- Clearing app data
- Restoring a previous backup
- Wiping and reinstalling the ROM
- Trying a different ROM or ROM version
I'm sure there's another one or two but a Sprint call doesn't typically cause you to lose any data on your phone. Hope you get your issue resolved.
I've been having this issue sporadically ever since I switched from the Hero to the Evo about two weeks ago, and it's very frustrating! After trying to sign in to google talk (or cancelling and redownloading an app download) 10-20 times... it usually starts to work. Connecting to a wifi network always resolves the issue immediately.
I called sprint, and after trying most of the steps you have posted, the best they could do is ask me to call google at 650-253-0000, which I will try later.
I mentioned the "switch the provider/internet signature" idea to the initial rep that I spoke to as well as the "escalation rep" I was transferred to, and they had no idea what I was talking about
aikeru , have you experienced the problem again since Sprint's "fix" was applied?

Hmmmm... I haven't experienced the problem anymore. That does sound frustrating. I got the rep to clarify more than once that it was a fix on their end and not on my phone. It's odd, but it's specifically Google services that I had problems with (ie: market, voice, talk, etc.) and not internet and they worked fine over WiFi.
You may just have to keep trying with someone else who is a little "smarter" or follow through the script until they get to that point. I wish I knew more technical details but that is all I recall them saying, really.
I'm having the exact same issue as the first poster. I can't connect to Google services when using 3g. WiFi and 4g works fine. This started after I did a nandroid restore yesterday. I did another nandroid restore of an older know good backup and it did the same thing. I called Sprint and they said they did a reset on my phone and still the same thing. The tech also said she had another caller just before me with the same issue that they were not able to fix.
I'm am still using the stock HTC Rom (3.29) with it rooted with Unrevoked.
So, from your description I've been having the same very problem. Like a couple of people, I had to call sprint a couple of time until they got me to a "senior" tech support. Until, then, they kept on telling me: go to google, call google, email the app developers.... bs bs bs... So, While on the phone with one of their "senior level tech support" (silly that they will insist for a half an hour on the phone with you before they pass you on to these senior techs... even sillier that there is such a division... if they are techs, they all should be trained to deal with these problems.. but anyway).
So the Senior Tech guy told me that they were aware of the problem, that it was indeed on their end and that they they were working on it....
(the first tech to answer the phone should know something like that as opposed to spending 30 mins of my time (each time I call) with "go to the app developers.... all 20 of them, it's their problem").
So, now, I'm supposed to wait until it's working again. Nothing I can do until they have it fixed on their network.
The apps that are not working for me are Market (on and off), Talk, google voice, news rob, Places Directory, Madison Bus, and a few others that use some kind of google service in part or in full, except google maps.
I'm on an Epic 4G, stock rom, up to date, and rooted. And this problem has persisted for 3 days now, in the Madison, WI area (3G/ no 4G).
Hope this clarifies a bit.
Great Read....

Sprint had a 3G problem yesterday and today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832866&page=1
Hi guys. This started with me having unfix-able, horrible wifi at my house leading me to look for a good mobile data plan where I can just hotspot (or tether) 4g off my SGH-1337 Galaxy s4 onto my desktop.
I got this phone in America (April 2014) on AT&T and then moved back to Australia (Late 2014). I unlocked it successfully and legitimately and it has been fine ever since using the provider Optus.
I found a decent plan with lots of data then went to check if my hotspot worked only to find it doesn't work and after some research I found out AT&T do something to restrict it after being unlocked; which I find to be ridiculous, why do they do this? When I pressed turn on hotspot it would say in small text at the bottom of the screen "mobile data is not available or invalid sim".
I then found a solution using Titanium backup but needed to root my phone first. After figuring that out (took about 4 different applications) using TowelRoot, I got Titanium backup and I backed up and uninstalled these two apps that apparently are the ones that cause this restriction. They are "Tetheringautomation 1.0.1." and "TetheringProvision 4.06.70". After doing this, hotspot worked for a few seconds then it turns off and displays this new error message: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." with a box and a prompt to press okay.
I've tried enabling the hotspot through widgets and through ES File Explorer's Net Manager and the same thing still happens.
I've tried clearing the cache and starting in safe mode and both did the same thing (after clearing the cache it worked for 5 seconds then gave the error, after this first time it gave the error straight away after that.).
I then tried this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2791938 with the xposed's x tether. After installing it and restarting my phone, the hotspot worked for about 20 seconds, I found it on my computer and connected to it but google.com wouldn't load (so I guess it wasn't working properly) and then it dropped out and turned off. Now it is back to saying the same: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.".
I posted this elsewhere and was told to try the app fixes 'TrevE Mod for wifi tether' and 'Foxfi'. I tried both multiple times and still getting the same error message.
I tried another solution off the xda forums specific to my phone model and AT&T issue. It involved going to system/apps and renaming both tethering automation files then replacing them with a file that was provided in the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2535141
After doing the whole process twice to make sure I did it right, It still didn't work, it gives me the first error message: "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM" and I definitely have the 4g on and have double checked that it is working.
I have no idea what to do now, I've googled everything I can think of and read too many threads. I'm going to post this to multiple forums for coverage. Here on xda I will post here and in the General Q&A section too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/issues-hotspot-tether-unlocking-att-t3181039
The build number is NC1. And I'm on 4.4.2. The hotspot worked fine when I was in America on AT&T. Tethering also gives me the same error message.
I am at wits end and have no idea what to do now. Please Please help me! I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks for even reading my issues, I really want this hotspot to work asap.
