Openvpn settings working? - G2 and Desire Z General

I'm trying to get said program working which was easy on my old g1 with cyanogen6. Am I right in my understanding I need a tun.ko driver which may not be available anywhere yet? I've installed openvpn installer already but clicking on my config file just hangs.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

The tun.ko has been compiled and posted in dev forum.
I will try to dig up the link next time I am at computer.

Thanks found the link @
Thread 808896
xda won't let me post full link
Still is hanging when clicking config unfortunately, will try script to move it to /data/local/modules as post suggests and then try vpn connections instead maybe.

I don't recall on this one, but unless you can tell the app where the module is, it won't work. Also, need to su to root in order to load modules into the kernel. In this case, it would be easier to copy the .ko to /system/lib/whatever to have it be in the "correct" module path - perhaps then it would work properly?

Got it!
Got the tun.ko loaded but needed to change some settings in my config file, must be some differences somewhere. (some route directives didn't work, used openvpn gui with notifications on)
Thanks!

CIFSManager

Hi all,
i'm so keen to get cifsmanager working on the 10.1v, has anyone managed to get it going as yet?
I think you need a working cifs.ko. its not availiable yet. I dont now if this files are galaxy tab specific or if you can use the files from other honeycomp tablets.

i managed to find a xoom zip file for rooting, it had the files in there, but I couldn't get them into the system modules directory. Is there a way to install them or must I root my device again? Appreciate the info.

In most case you will need ,I guess, root to be able to load cifs module. Besides cifsmanager from the market, I used another app named mount manager which give you easier parameter setting options for mounting. Again it asks root first..and compatible cifs module

whats the best way to get the .ko file into the system/module/lib/ directory, can I just go in via fastboot? I'm a bit unclear, I dont really want to root again and have everything reset again, but if I have to, I will, just want to make sure theres not another way...thanx for responses
there is a cifs module released in a very first coutom rom img in the forum. you may want to give it a try.

Vrtheme and updater script

I need a lilttle help on this. I have had Aroma on my rom for awhile. But on the next update (Im working on now) i want to include new things like Nexus 7 animations. But they use vrtheme.
I have tried to get the mods that have vrtheme to flash but its a no go. I know that I must have vrtheme in my rom which I do (attatched) but I dont know the right way to write my script to extract it in my updater script.
Thats where I need help. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have enclosed my updater script, aroma config, and my folder which contains all aroma mods.
Thanks
Edit....its not letting my upload my files. I will try again later

There should only be 2 parms, you have 3
the first is the source directory, the second is where to put it
you have:
package_extract_dir("alloy/Lock/Shock", "/vrtheme", "/sdcard/vrtheme");
You gota get rid of one of them, more than likely "/vrtheme"
based on your other lines that worked you probably should have coded it like this:
package_extract_dir("alloy/Lock/Shock/vrtheme", "/sdcard/vrtheme");

Native Hotspot Assistance

Once a deodexed rom is released it will be easier to test the hotspot mod out. Because not having the phone would require someone else that can Odex the files and test. This would be a pain because you would have to do that for each test. For now I am curious about something though. Is there anyone out there with the S5 that is paying for the hotspot? If so can you configure it and connect to it at least once, if you haven't already, and send me your services.jar and services.odex? You will probably need to be rooted in order to get to the files. Don't worry there won't be any sensitive information in the files.
I tried the mod you posted, same as was done on Note 2. Not sure if it worked or not as the build had some data issues, so couldnt comnect to test. It compiled and booted fine with the line deletion at least. Was easy enough to find
Gettin frustrated with getting the deodexed working to move on. Have some issues ive never seen before. Just Play store, Hangouts and Google Calendar sync FC's. Think its a GmsCore issue

Thanks for that! But you know how I am It is just my nature to use the native app. So if it can work that is best IMO. That way when I finally do get the 5 it is already waiting for me :victory:

Yeah I saw that. Thanks for sharing. I wanted this one to be specifically for getting the services files from someone that is paying for the service. So that is why I created a separate thread.

Thank you. Could you Odex your hotspot mod and try it with either your rom or stock to see if it works? If it works on Odex then you know it will work on deodexed once it is ready.
To get the native hotspot working, you need to:
update carriers set type="default,mms,dun" where apn="n.ispsn";
in the following file:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
This is what worked for me on Sprint North America. Just got it working today, was trying all the known tricks including rebuilding framework-res.apk with no luck. Be advised however I first used a sqlite app from the market and it added a space between mms and dun which did not work. I installed the sqlite3 binary and did that SQL command from adb shell. Can do more of a walk through if needed, let me know.

His zip is admittedly different than the zip I made, mine runs a sqlite command in place, while his copies a premade db into place. Either way, lets get some feedback on how this thing is working...

Yeah but it is using the mod that you discovered. So you should be credited. And my other point is that your zip only adds the portion of the mod that is required. His replaces the entire db file which could cause issues.

It's not a big problem. I knew your zip was different. My only point is that Mike published the method of unlocking the hotspot first. So he should have been credited for finding the fix. That's it. You could have kept your zip alive if you wanted to. Although I still believe his install is safer.

Because his zip only does a sql update for the specific change that is required. You're zip replaces the entire db file. Nothing may ever come of that. But if a user had a db file which had different contents than the one you provide they would lose those changes. There is also a very slight possibility that permissions on that file could get corrupted when replacing it. Highly unlikely though. I'd be more concerned about the first possibility.

Would be a good idea to decompile sectelephonyprovider and see if those values in the database file can't be forced as default for all additions that have that apn field
