AVI playback? - Desire HD General

Does the HTC DHD support avi playback?

You can download rockplayer from the market place which plays avi files, not 100% sure if it can play it natively

Thanks for this - I did download, but the problem I'm having is that I want to play it from a DLNA server on the network. Can I change the default program with which a video file is opened so that it opens with Rockplayer?

[Q] Android Video Playback

I have installed this rom -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814285
and had also installed the famour Azure 1.0.1 by aliba
i found both couldnt play some mp4
so my question is that does android support mp4 playback ? if it does how will i put it in my current rom [ i have tried 3rd part video players , it failed].

Android supports mp4 playback.

but my default player aint playing mp4..are their certain resolution tht video need to be in ?
AFAIK, mp4 is a file container and many things depend on the codec that was used to encode the video file. Personaly i'm using Handbrake to encode videos for watching them on my Legend, so if you want i could share the "proper" preset for this task.

I'm using Any video converter and MP4 (x264 / aac)
I found out that for some reason x264/mp3 doesn't work...
yea thanks

I installed Rock Player yesterday, which supports more file formats. I haven't tried a lot but it plays my downloaded Simpsons episodes just fine. They're in Xvid btw.

Does it work well for you? I got the free version and sometimes it loses audio/video sync...Any issues like that?
It works well but I've only tried short videos like tv show episodes. I read that longer complex videos might lose av sync at some points.

Download and install Handbrake (free app). The preset is attached bellow this post, (if you're using Windows Vista / Seven) move it to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake
Use preset called "Legend". Good luck
EDIT: don't forget to extract attached file.
is there a better player than rockplayer?
videos that arent 480x320 work incredible bad on my legend. itself the 5800 had a better video playback function than just every player i tried so far on the legend.

MP4 on Xoom?

Anyone know of a program that will play MP4 video files on the Xoom? All my video files are in the format and I'd prefer not to convert them all when I put them on the Xoom.
I couldn't find the VLC Media Player for Android...
Any suggestions?

Not for me. It plays the movie choppy and the volume sounds like a voice changer on a bad horror movie.
Comical... but not watchable.
Any other suggestions?
Make sure you are using the universal one, not one for a specific device.
http://rockplayer.freecoder.org/index_en.html
Yeah I tried the Universal one and hardware decoding. No luck still.
i have a question.....how are you guys transferring your files over to the xoom? i tried to drag and drop an mp4 to mine but i get an error message saying "this type of file is not supported on this device". is there something i'm missing.

Ignore it.
I thought mp4 was a supported android format? What format is needed for HD playback via the xoom's video player?

You get the same error transferring mp3...think it's because of the way the pc sees the xoom. Just hit ignore.

there is no ignore option....i only get "skip, skip all or cancel", no matter what i choose it doesn't transfer the file. i can transfer mp3's fine but no type of video file will transfer. i'm pretty stuck right now.

you can also try arc media from the android marketplace.
No special player needed. I just use root explorer, select the movie and it just plays... Natively...

Try renaming the file .zip then rename after the copy.
no luck renaming it zip.....i had to rename it .mp3 and it allowed the transfer. i renamed it back to mp4 but the video is choppy. i'm using rockplayer lite from the app market for now.
Can't you guys just open the movie in the Gallery and have it play using the built in video player?

I haven't found a single video player app in the market that work properly and I tried vplayer, Rockplayer and another one, I think it was called qqplayer.. The native player will recognize and play MKV but no sound and very choppy. I successfully played a couple of MP4 files though. Tried an AVI and it gave me the same error message and even though I got is copied to the Xoom, it never showed up in the Gallery.

[Q] Best way to watch videos from a windows share?

I have a network share on my win7 machine that has videos in divx and xvid.
What is the best way for me to access those files from my tf101 so I can watch them directly from the pc without copying it onto tf101 first?
Also, what media player could play them?
Thanks
I was just messing around but I watched vids from my TF that were located on my laptop via the "my cloud" app on the TF....it's the sub app called "splashtop" and it worked just fine....
upnplay app with moboplayer. Set up media streaming in windows7's media player. There should be instructions if you Google it.
Ive used plex and it seemed to play most of my videos fine.

This is the combo I use and it works a charm, however plex, splashtop etc will work also. Try them all because its down to preference...

Very few videos will play correctly due to honeycomb issues, but cifs works well. I suppose you could set up real time transcoding if you had a comp with enough power. Includinb dgnvdec somewhere in the decoding chain would work well for those with nvidia cards - as that would perform all resizing/decoding/deinterlacing via gpu, freeing up cpu to handle the smaller encode. I'm pretty sure the default movie player can handle many different transports.
File Manager HD can be networked with your home network and then I stream and play with Moboplayer. Works pretty good.
Plex will play videos that won't stream, like FLV files.
Splashtop will play netflix but with crappy quality.
UPNPlay has the best quality since it plays the original file but only the standard formats like avi and MPG.
I ran them directly using es viewer

seems like it has to load the whole video before u can "stream" it??? takes a long time to serve up a 2gb file
Has anyone found a good way to play ogm files?

how ??
tried that and it says no player (i have moboplayer etc installed). if i then choose 'open as' and video is starts copying the whole file across ??
File Manager HD downloads the whole file, it doesn't support streaming AFAIK.
I use GMote and Moboplayer (for vids). Audio can be played directly in GMote. Works great.
Whats the best way to steam? Both ES and FileHD makes me download to cache which defeats the purpose of networking. If I use N speed would the download be faster?

Plex will actually only transcode if it needs to, if it doesn't it'll simply stream the original media AFAIK. I use it and love it. It's probably one of the easiest ways to get this set up, especially if you want remote access from outside of your intranet.
For .mpeg/avi streaming:
File Expert -> Dolphin Browser HD -> VPlayer
Can use MoboPlayer or RockPlayer instead of VPlayer, but seeking with VPlayer is better imho. Other file types may work...
mounted my network share in CIFS and play natively with mobo.... for the files that aren't supported by hardware playback, you can long press the file in mobo and use software decoding.
what is CIFS?

I have. Plays AVI very well.
Try Mplayer. If it will be as good as the pc one it will rock. SO far it's a bit rough but will work where others fail.
Watch out what settings you tick, not all processing methods are supported by tegra.
I used MoboPlayer and when plays DivX video, the movie plays but the screen getting so dark. I almost couldn't see the movie.
MP4s or MPGs plays normally.
Any help?
Try RockPlayer, seems the best so far.
You don't answer his question.... he asked for a player that plays vob files in a folder. Not the best media player.

I have the same problem. mobo goes dark whenever I start a video..however the trick is the control screen for moboplayer that displays once after you install it and the correct codec.
Brightness control is done by using your finger to slide up/down on the left side of the screen ( landscape mode ).
volume is on the screen right side ( up /down) and forward back in the video is at the top ( left right)
After I reinstalled it and actually read what the control screen says instead of just clicking on pass I find it to be satisfactory to just bring the brightness back up.
I have only had my A500 for 2 days so I'm new. Hope this helps.

Neither did you, so stop being useless.
PS. I did mention mPlayer a few posts back, if that doesn't do it...
I favor Buzz however I haven't tried much else...
I'm new to android. Is it impossible to install movie codecs on android tablets so that we can play all movie formats.Like .ts .mkv etc.
I hope you don't torture yourself with updates on your pc when there's VLC and SMplayer.
No, one size should fit all, look for mplayer or rockplayer.
Thanks.I downloaded moboplayer and it seems for me better than other players i tried.

Divx Player

Anyone know of any good Divx player? I just got the a500 and haven't have much lucking finding one that works. I found some a few years back for my G1, but we all know how overpowered that device is..
And yes, i have tried searching...the few i have found don't run on the a500.
thanks!
I'm playing DivX with moboPlayer from the market.
I did have trouble with it at first but after Selecting "Default Using Soft-Decoding" option in settings it is working great.
Using MoboPlayer here, but haven't changed any settings for playing my rips.
I'll have to go fiddle with it later.
I was really surprised to see that divx .avi files weren't playable on the tablet.
The thing jumps on my server with no problems and then can't play the files it finds.

See this is what surprised me too. It won't play divx encoded .avi files. I'm going to mess with the "Default Using Soft-Decoding" option and see if it'll work. It's gonna seem like a pain to have to convert all the videos i have to a diff format just to play them on the tab.
