I just found there is a new version of Dolphin Browser, it is called Dolphin Browser HD.
http://androidandme.com/2010/05/news/dolphin-browser-hd-arrives-for-android-2-0-users/
It is quite good, especially the "gesture" for opening bookmark.
But, too bad, there is no bookmark "folder" support
Yo, its a sweet browser indeed an one is able to import bookmarks from the other browser.
Thanks for the heads up on that! It looks pretty nice, it feels a bit sluggish though, maybe just me, or maybe because it is new.
i think its the best browser so far, havent used the youtube downloader yet and didnt check the flash support but the rest works best
Pages seem to load a tiny bit slower, but scrolling and zooming is the smoothest I've seen yet. It looks great.
Ads though
Best browser by far Love the tabs and gestures
Awesome, nice find bud
There's a nice addon for this browser in the Marketplace "Google Services".
you tube download issue
this is an awesome browser. -skyfire > uninstall!
however when you try to download a you tube clip it says, no storage space. I have loads of room on my sd. is it trying to download to internal ram and therfore no room?
*********scrub the comment above, it was my card!
nice browser but somehow slower than stock one..
Youtube downloader is pretty good. Just downloaded a couple of music videos. Files were around 20MB and the quality is better than I had expected.
I'm just hoping that we get a decent Chrome or Firefox at some point in the future.
Nice as this is, I'm not going to live with ads in my browser, and I'm obviously not going to pay for one.
This browser supports Flash Lite.
I have no problem paying this, but for that price ($4.99), I want:
- Bookmark folder support
- A bit more faster site loading + rendering

Do they adverts show up anywhere other than the bookmarks menu? Because I haven't seen them anywhere else.
Think that's the only place. Not the most intrusive, to be fair, but still. I object to being told to find Jesus when I'm searching for gmail.

LMAO! isnt that on the xda app too tho?
Thanks for bringing it to our attention... absolutely excellent browser, love it! A little slower and buggier with multi-touch and scrolling sideways compared to the default (clicks links too often and easily with simple scroll touches as well as bringing the side thumb menu out too easily) but still my choice browser now. Love the standard gestures and the fact that they work so well consistently.

I've tried all browsers and I must say the stock one is still the best imo (2.1)

how to do u import chrome browser bookmarks? I could not find any option. Do they stay in sync with chrome bookmarks.
Latest update removes YouTube video downloading.
Read the market description and don't update if you want to keep it.
What do you guys think will be some features of Ginger bread ?
Take 3 guesses...be specific not something like "UI tweak" and lets avoid the known ones (tv like shutdown,web2phone app install, market enhancement).
btw not a wish list..but things you actually think may happen.
1. Google Talk. Along with video calling I think theyll be making this a more prominent app and possibly allowing MMS style media sharing or integration with other com services (yahoo/skype).Perhaps using it as a portal to there GoogleMe service coming soon.
2. Browser. I think copy/paste will be refined skipping the menu buttons and having it initiated by long presses.
3. Browser. I also think theyll be 3Ding it up a bit. Giving tabs very Gallery like look.
i think there will be a very large focus on auto synchronization of music, videos, and images through the cloud (as hinted, goes along with the redesigned media player).
also im pretty sure they will add a competing "find my phone" feature since apple has gone ahead and integrated that into iOS 4.2.
bascially i think the new market web site will let your control every aspect of your phone from the web: images, music, contacts, wipe, applications, and phone finder.
also the browser will probably have a nicer tabbed browsing experience(managing multiple tabs right now sucks).

Thats two for tabs.
That actually would be fantastic. Does that integrate current functions or do you think it will be new methods.
((i.e for pictures will it just incorporate my current Picasa or will it be a seperate image section))
1. I believe that a lot of the core apps (phone, music, message, browser) will have a very 3D gallery like look. Most of the UI revamp rumors probably stem from this.
2. Most of the UI revamp will come from core app redesigns but as we've seen already, Android 2.3 now has a darker look. Expect a Google TV, Voice Command/Actions, Youtube App-like look. Lots of black/grey with bright, light-ish highlights. Also add in a lot of new transition and visual cue effects (Orientation flipping, end of lists, that CRT screen off effect, etc.).
3. Better multi-tasking / app switching, maybe WebOS good but differnet.
I'm sure Andy Rubin said something about Gingerbread having a focus on social communication and gaming. So expect there to be much better social integration in Gingerbread.
Didn't Schmidt say that Google Me won't be a standalone product but more of a social layer on existing Google products.

I wouldnt be surprised at #2. But 1/3 really seem like Honeycomb options to me. I dont think there was enough time IMO. That 3 second clip of 2.3 left me thinking there really wouldnt be anything truly new or cool until 3.0.
btw what do you mean "end of lists" ?

I rarely ever play mobile games so maybe it already exists. But does any Game dev, or Apple have an XBLive aspect to it ?
As in you can log in see your "Friends" and see there scores, games played , message each other etc ??
I thought that would be a great thing for Google to add that would integrate with the other things but perhaps its been done.

I wouldn't be so surprised at #1. Remember the IO developer conference? They already had a new 3D gallery like music app up and running on 2.2. You don't think they could have finished a couple of more between now and then? And that's if they hadn't already been partially done back then. I'm almost certain that #1 is a done deal for 2.3.
By end of list, I mean the bounce effect that other OS's like iOS have when you reach the end of a list. I just envision 2.3 having more superficial OS wide effects.
I thing there will be:
1. app to remove scraches
2. Hack iphone users
3. Nexus one front facing camera hack.

Cant recall...I just remember it being red. But if they were that far along then you may be right.
The Palm guy coming over and the purchase of that 3d desktop company came well after no ? Thats my reasoning for thinking not enough time.
Gotcha about the bounce effect.

i would imagine it would be more of a one way sync of photos from the gallery to the desktop (doesn't picasa autosync already?), while music and video wold mostly go to the phone, maybe from a designated folder (drop box style) or some online interface (letting you access your things from a backed up storage of your phone from google's servers) pretty much doig iTunes job without the ****ty program or cables.
either way i got the feeling that they really wanted to create a simple way to connect your computer and phone through their cloud.

I see. Yeah Picasa does for web albums you still have to upload your pics.
Clicking sync via web for all of it would be cool.

Hey all,
I was wondering if there is an app out there which resembles "Pages" or "Numbers" which is on the ipad. I LOVE both of these applications and their ease of use.
I'm currently trying out docs2go, but it seems very basic compared to pages
Any tips or suggestions would be great
Thanks!
Wow that is a nice app indeed. I currently use ThinkFree Office for Word and so far it's functional, but not as pretty You should have it already, its shipped with the Tab.

In pages, i liked how simple it was to just hit the format buttons at the top(much like in Microsoft word).
In Quick Office and Docs to Go on android, it's very annoying to have to press the menu button every time i want to make something bold, underline
It looks like i'll be using Quick Office tho, as it seems to have a slightly better UI, IMO.
To each his own.
A not very interesting article, but I did gloat just a bit.

sweet, android fanboys have another flag
As a web developer I can tell you that iOS is faster in terms of JS performance, over twice as fast (iPhone 4 vs. Nexus S). They said that iOS's new javascript engine doesn't help load times - well... um, that's not the point. If I develop a Javascript intensive (think animations, etc) web app, it will run smoother on iOS than on Android.
I've always thought that load time tests are crap shoots too. Way too many uncontrollable variables - WiFi or 3G connection, ping times, server response from the site you're requesting. Testing rendering time (local file) or actual JS performance is a way better indicator of browser peformance - otherwise just test data connection not browsers for load times.

Faster dosen't always make a web browser better... I'm not a huge fan of the stock CM7 browser.
iPhone/iPad browser = webkit
EVO browser = webkit
How is this a browser comparison?

Just because both are Webkit doesn't mean they are the same.
For example, iOS has more supported HTML5 standards than Android. They may be both Webkit but one can support older or newer standards/features of Webkit. On top of that, Javascript engines are something else entirely. The one in iOS is currently much faster. If you remember back in 2010, Froyo used to be the fastest. Altogether it's perplexing why Google didn't bring in Chrome's engine (or some scalable variation of it) into Gingerbread. I use Chrome exclusively because of it's JS speed (among other things).

I think it matters. Faster REAL browser performance, not this unreliable load time BS, will bring what I really want: true open HTML5/JS web applications with great user experiences. You could have super impressive apps that no longer require the App Store or Android Market and that are cross platform as long as your browser is compliant. Just go to the website, create a shortcut on your homescreen and have full on and offline access.

I heart Ars.
and completely unsurprised by this, something smelled fishy about the claim.
Android web browser isn't that bad, but compared to my dads 3gs that he had, and even his iphone 4, Safari did not load faster than what the Android browser did, but it was a hell of a lot smoother even with flash uninstalled off my Evo. Apple may not have had the fastest hardware and doesn't have the fastest right now, but they sure know how to optimize it.
the stock browser sucks. i only use opera mini or miren.
ok, never mind

Amen to that. I sort of shrugged when it didn't make into GB (figured it was a phone thing) but I was genuinely shocked to see it not make it into the HoneyComb tablets. That still seems like a major face-palm to me.
The browser on the MIUI rom is smooth as mess.
Though MIUI is known to copy a lot of stuff from iphone, I still make my phone look different... but it is good to get the smoothness that the iphone achieves.
I believe the reason the gui of Ios is smooth because unlike Android, it's hardware accelerated.

DolphinHD is a very good browser but its not really tablet orriented which is wht it is very uncomfortable to use where as Dolphin for pad is for Tablets but sadly they seem to have abondaned it and also it is quite unstable on my Samsung gt 10.1 running kang .........
I would recommend Google chrome if you are running ICS because its much better than Dolphin although it doesnot support Flash. To be truthful, if they had continued to support Dolphin for Pad it would have been an amazing browser to use but reality is CRUEL!
I sometimes use Dolphin for Tab on my device but it's very non stable. I wish they offered Chrome for honeycomb. Lately I have been using Maxthon a lot and I like it. It's not great but I feel it is pretty good.

thanks for your answers.
For me, Dolphin for Pad is not crashing more often than the stock browser.
I gave up on Dolphin for Pad when I learned that there was no way to import bookmarks. What a shame.
I am really surprised that Google has not made a big push to make Chrome the browser of choice for Android devices. It seems like the perfect match. Maybe down the road.

While there will be many legitimate debates about the merits of different browsers, Firefox does one thing that no other mobile browser does correctly. That one thing is to properly handle overflowed objects like DIV tags and IFRAMEs. What this means is if a webpage has say a DIV tag with scrollable content, Firefox will handle it in a way that will allow you to scroll that content around. All other browsers either deny any access to hidden content in the scrollable object or display the entire contents of the scrollable object that in turn breaks page layout.
I run and test Firefox Beta, Aurora & Nightly on my Tab and S2 on a regular basis. Firefox Beta is my default browser. For those who don't like living on the bleeding edge, Beta is a solid browser. If you don't mind a few bugs, Aurora is pretty stable. If you don't mind occasional blow ups and want to help find/report bugs taking Nightly out for an occasional spin can help improve future generations of Firefox.
In regards to Dolphin, it's a fine browser, but it is still KHTML based just like Safari and Android Browser, so in essence, it is just a Android Browser clone with a few extra bells and whistles.
As far as whether I'd use Dolphin for Pad or Dolphin HD, if D4 Pad is no longer being supported you should switch to HD to make sure you have the latest security fixes. Never stay with an unsupported browser.
