No data from GPS sensor at all - Galaxy S I9000 General

I might be too dumb, but apparently the GPS of my Samsung Galaxy is stonedead.
What I've checked so far:
- Settings: GPS is activated
- Neither GPS-Status nor GPS-Test show GPS data
- LbsTestMode > GetPositionTest => no data shown
I've bought the device at ebay, and the seller has not enclosed the invoice (and does not react on messages). So I'm kind of .. panic.
Otherwise everybody is saying that the GPS sensor is integrated in some chip or so. Can this be enabled/disabled somewhere else than in the OS itself?
Please help!

Start a claim through e-bay so long as you paid via paypal you should get your money back.

b4 donig that set it to cold start and try outside..

The problem should be a buggy firmware.
My GPS didn't work at all after flashing JM9.
Then I reflashed and now my GPS works.

Most PDA GPS's do not turn on automatically by themselves unless instructed or invoked by a software application. I have not looked carefully at my Jade clone's SIRF's specifications but most GPS under ideal situations can take as little as 42 seconds when warmed up to get four satellites to lock on to. Four satellites are necessary in most sytems are necessary for 3D satellite navigation (satnav or GPS).
What are ideal situations? Glad you asked. Basically, one of the most critical needs for a GPS is accurate time. This is the first item that must be sync'ed by satellites. To use a gross example, let's say your clock is off 60 minutes. In a car that could equate to roughly 60 miles. Satellites need accurate time because when they begin to sync, they will compute what satellites are available to sync with your GPS. Just like the sun, moon and stars are only in the sky at moving intervals of time, only a fixed amount of satellites are overhead at any given time.
Once your GPS begins to sync, ephemeris data (which satellites and the times they are overhead) is transmitted to your GPS. When combined with accurate time, the resolution of where your receiving GPS becomes easier.
The next critical issue is where does your GPS think it is. If the GPS was last turned on at the factory (testing), then it will store that location as its last known position. Guess what? If you're in Paris, France and your GPS was made in Malaysia, your last known position known now as initial positon to the satellites will tell them based upon time to use satellites in the Asian area to compute your satnav position. A GPS without a good initial position will make it difficult for satellites to accurately determine your location which could now takes a minimum of four minutes as long as ten minutes and maybe even hours.
Finally, where is your GPS physically located? In ideal conditions, it is outside with clear sky overhead in a stationary location. It's easier to shoot a sitting duck; a moving target or a GPS on the go complicates all the issues of time, location and signal acquisiton.
To help you, I recommend you download a small cab file that be used in your Today screen. It is aptly called "GPS Toggle". In essence, like a mechanic warming up your car prior to you driving it on a cold day, this plug-in "warms up" your GPS for you prior to needing it.
There is one thing you need to do to help your GPS - it is best for WM to manage it (a recommended feature from Microsoft). Go to the Settings tab, External GPS (why it is called that on my Settings tab is beyond me). Then click through the screens to have WM manage the GPS. On one tab you will asked to choose a Port from which all your programs will access data. You need to use an unused Port. I recommend Port 9 but that is up to you.
The reason for doing this is if WM manages the data, it will keep the GPS on and provide the resolved info to all applications. If the programs managed the GPS, they could selectively turn on and off the GPS and also block each other from using the GPS. You don't want that to happen. That is why MS recommends WM manage the data.
GPS toggle, when installed on your Today screen, will have an ON/OFF switch. When you turn it on, it will on the same line tell you how many satellites it has found and when it has sync'ed with them. When you see that four satellites are in the green (meaning your GPS is found ready for 3D satnav), then you can use satnav program of your choice.
The GPS uses battery power and supposedly is a big drain on smartphones. You want to turn it off and on only as necessary. Hope this helps (it's sticky stuff good info)!

Have tried to download - unable to open (as .php) - do I simply put the file in custom_ruu folder to then flash to the phone?
Thanks in anticipation
It might be a fake.
Open the Settings tab, go to "System" and look for "Device information". The CPU must be Qualcomm MSM 7225 and the full model name should be Touch 3G T3232. If not, it's a fake.
Thanks digsf.
Checked the phone and it would appear to be legit (just as well as it came direct from Orange UK)
It is frustrating that everyone else seems to be getting the roms to work, but for some reason i can't get them to do so - i must still be doing something wrong....

Cloned HTC Touch 3G
I went through the posts - I guess even I have landed up with a cloned HTC Touch 3G. Wonder what the drawbacks are. Somehow after a lot of tinkering I have been able to get my GPS to work (yes it has a built in GPS antenna) and it's accurate!
I set the hardware to COM 3, baud rate 4800
application to COM 0
In Google maps>options>GPS settings>manual settings (COM0 baud rate 4800)
IT WORKED!!
The WiFi can't be turned on with TouchFlo. Anybody has a solution to that?

GPS and other settings

I have a blackstone and it was originally on the Orange network (UK) I now have it unlocked from orange and have a T-mobile uk sim in there.
I put tomtom sat nav on and havent done much else to it.
For some reason I cant use the tomtom app as it says no gps device, any idea whats going on, or how I fix this. I follew the tom tom installation correctly but it just doesnt pick up any satellites up.
Another thing is my MMS setting are out of wack completely, any idea how I get these fixed, t mobile are unable to help as they dont sell the phone through them.
Anyone got their mms worksing through t mobile uk?
any help would be appreciated
Yes..you have find a big bug in the new rom that you have installed...i think that you have burn the GPS antenna, or the second possibility is that you have to install a new Antenna software..i've a original rom and all is perfect.!!
i havent installed another rom, its the original one that was on the phone, so i couldnt have burnt anything out. i haveng modded the phone in any way just to confirm
I'd try this for the MMS settings:
Tmobile Settings by Email
For the TomTom problem, it is just a case of TomTom not displaying any Satellites, but still getting your location (the screen changes colour and shows your location, to indicate a satellite lock) or does it never give a fix.
Not to insult as I don't know your level of experience with GPS, but try it outside on a clear (not very heavy cloud) day, leaving it stationary for several (upto five I'd say) minutes, and see if it gets a fix?
thansk for the reply,
but the t-mobile link odesnt work as my phone isnt listed there and I cant move forward without selecting one.
The tom tom screen is grey as if it doesnt have any satellites connected to it, I have tried it on a clear day and same no luck.
In the connections tab under where you can switch the bluetooth, wifi etc on, does the data connection also have to be switched on, of is the data connection for something else?
For tomtom:
Go to settings/AGPS settings and make sure it is turned off - this used to stop tomtom working for me until I updated my ROM.
In tomtom, make sure you've selected 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' and COM4 (I found the baud rate does not matter and have it set to the highest value.
thanks all working now, great.
just on a general note, what costs are incurred when we use this, is it free for people with data plans etc

GPS does not cost anything as you are receiving signals from GPS satellites. I don't think you even need a SIM in your phone to use it.
AGPS is data so will come out of your data plan if you have one.

Have you tic the box in the GPS tab (see in the settings) for give the permission to the O.S for taking automatically the control of signal.?

No GPS sat lock

I've had the imagio for about 2 weeks not. and can't get the GPS to work. I've tried every reg edit I can't find. Tried useing GPSID.dll rather then GPSID_HTC.dll. I tried installing the GPSModDrivers. Ran QuickGPS. Done Hard resets and half a dozen flashes. Nothing. The only program that works in Verizon's VZ Nav. TomTom, Google maps, Bing never get any sat lock. I'd say it was my phone but my dad's and the floor model at our Verizon store all have the same problems. The guy at Verizon said it was an issue with a lot of them and HTC was working on an updated rom for it. But that could be crap. Any ideas?
You probably have a faulty unit - my GPS always locks pretty quickly.
Agreed. My GPS works flawlessly. I use it all the time with TrackMe.
Never had the first problem with the GPS , works great with Google and Bing maps. Yours Dad's phone must be defective , swap it out for a new one.
Just wondering...
Start/Settings/System/External GPS on Access tab, did you marked
"Manage GPS atomatically (recommended)
If you don't do this, have you tried setting the Com Port Manually? I have a felling that if VZ works that is just a configuration issue.
As a last resource, you could use a terminal program like Token2Shell Mobile (free 30 Trial) to read the Com port "Usually Com4" and 4800 Baud and check the NMEA string coming in, here is a example from mine.

Sorry for the double post working from device.
Keep in mind that some of the things you may have installed to correct the issue may have negatively affect registry settings, sync your contacts and do a hard reset on the device. And do not set up VZ nav when you bring it up.
Then do this:
Install Google maps
Make Sure your Location Setting is "on" in the phone settings. If it is on then toggle it to "911" hit okay on upper right corner then go back into it and toggle it back on and hit okay.
Soft Reset and let boat up completely
Open Google Maps And make sure USE GPS is not checked.
Click "X" in top corner to let it run in the background
Run Quick GPS and select "Download"
Open Google Maps again and select "USE GPS" make sure you have a clear view of the sky and it should take less than one minute to lock
Sometimes a soft reset is required to get a gps lock.
Actually, It is a known issue with the particular gpsone chipset. It's an issue with location caching with agps, but this phone comes stock with agps disabled. However, I have not heard that many complaints on this forum, of course not everybody uses gps. If you soft reset before you try and use you shouldn't have issues. Trust me this is my third HTC touch series phone with this issue (diamond, touch pro, imagio). With my imagio it suddenly stopped having this issue, wierd. I used to use a program called HTC gps tool on my touch pro that would clear the cache for you without having to soft reset each time you might want to do some searching, not sure if it works with wvga screens.

I concur if it was a hardware issue VZ nav wouldn't work.
Sweeny Russ:
I being looking for a program to manage the GPS chipset, I use many kinds of GPS devices for work and it would be the first time I see a GPS device I can't program/manage. Gpsone chipset is the GPS on board device? Do you have a link for this HTC GPS program? I wonder if I can actually program with it...worth asking
One of my friends had the same problem as you mentioned. I asked him to do a hard reset and after a HR, the GPS has been working smoothly. Please try a HR!
I have no complain about my Imagio's GPS because it works much more than I expected. I can get 7-8 sattelites fixed in house, near the window where my old phone Touch HD could not fix any sattlelite.
I'm about to try bastukee suggestion. Giakhoa are you saying do a hard reset after a hard reset?

Let me know how this pans out. I haven't used this new version but it will allow you to play around with some setting my gps locks instantly so I'm not going to mess with it I just now it works on vga, you might need a screen rotate app to read all settings.
Original Post where I found it is here
Sweeny, Program works nice. it's an easier way to see the data then the program bastukee gave me. But sadly I don't know what half the options do and it still gives me the same date I posted in #12. Thoughts anyone?
That's exactly what you would get when satelites are not being seen, in fact you can't even see a Clock. Once I finish this 3 day trip to India and settle I will try that program and see how my settings look like and post screenies. "I'm a zombie atm"
Thanks for the help. I'm going crazy trying to get this to work.

There's where I got the data that matched the data bastukee showed me. And the one in the settings.
I might be pointing out the obvious but, did you try this outside? After like a minute?

Geotagging not working

Hi all..
Iam unable to geotag with my omnia 2..
When i select gps in camera settings, it just says "receving gps signal" and then nothing..
Has any one been able to geotag.. Or is there any settings i need to change..
Photo Gps
It took close to 60 seconds before the recieving gps signal loaded after this the window closes..This is what happened to me...
Hope this helps
On my it just says "receving gps signal" and nothing.. waited for around 2-3mins...
i am not on 3G connection.. does that matter.
Make sure under:MY Menu / Settings / General Settings / GPS / Connection: Scroll down and make sure the button for Manage GPS Automatically is on. Some programs will not use the gps unless this is activated..
Hope this may Help..
Bronson
Manage GPS Automatically is on.. and also my Garmin works fine..
Have you flashed your unit with a new Rom here or changed your default Gps settings in order to get your Garmin to work?
Some have stated that using certain memory cleaners have wiped certain files needed for some functions.
I got caught the first week of downloading and using pocket mechanic and lost sound files for most apps...Only recourse was to Hardboot and try again.
Hopefully this is not your issue but thought i would but it on the table..

My geotagging works fine it is obviously a gps issue so try THIS
I got the same problem. I'm still using the same Samsung ROM that comes with my B7610. I turn on GPS from the camera submenu. However, I keep on getting the error "Fail to Receiving GPS Signal".

GPS not working in offline anymore

Hello!
I have LG Spirit 4G LTE H440N
Location is not working, when I turn off data or not being registered in any network after update to v6.0.1. With v5.0.1 things were kind of fine, laggy sometimes, but overall it was working and now with the same apps with preloaded maps it doesn't work at all. Here's what I've done:
- GPS test app locates good amount of satellites "In View" instantly, but it's always 0 "In Use" with no fix;
- This phone was already two times in warranty repairs (both only because of the problem described here), both times HW was changed. First time they changed some part, don't know what that was, but second time it was mainboard, I have a different IMEI now. Warranty is still ON.
- Tried to use GPS in offline with Samsung Galaxy phone, and it works there on Marshmallow.
Can anyone suggest a solution?
