Battery bug after froyo update! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Okay. Flashed my phone using the Reg hack. It's working almost flawless. The bug i have is with the Battery indicator. It's 20% in front of real battery percent! In sometimes i freezes. Right now it's really bugging me! I've tried to do factory wipe 3 times(not working). And i tried to take the battery after draining it to zero. But nothing seems to work All that have something to do with my battery seems to be all drunk. Lol. My battery state and the f...... Indicator! Someone have the same issue? And someone have a solution?
Cheers..

I have the same problem.
The indicator always show more than what batterypercent really is.
I updated using Kies when Froyo was available in norway.
Edit: added screenshot
(its norwegian but im sure you dont need any translation)

I had this problem in 2.1 . Get a bat stat from the market. No biggy

I had the problem in 2.1 as well... I think it has to do with the touchwiz battery indicator only changing every 15% or so...
I've installed 'Gauge Battery Widget' from the market. It shows up in the status bar as well.

Maybe every 25%.
Mine is 80% now and indicator still shows max

Yep, this has been my experience as well. I think the battery notification icon only has 4 or 5 stages so will show full even if you're at 85%. I replaced the touchwiz with one of the SpitFire battery mods and now my notification bar battery matches the system percentage exactly as it has 100 stages.

here too, .. 98% after 5 hours of use and still showing as beeing full =/ (jpk)
(holy smokes, .. thse last couple of days my battery is uberly-strong!!)

What about some search ??

Battery percentage does not tally with the status bar's icon

what i mean is, i'll see the battery logo up on the status bar at 75% (3/4 bar) and think that i have ~75% amount of battery usage left.
i'll then check the battery numbers in the settings and my battery is at ~40% lol.
well i'm running a jm5 stock rom, rooted. anyone having that issue?
i'll try to run the battery low till it offs and monitor the values again.
Jup, I also noticed this, but no biggie, I think this is Android standard.
Definitely NOT defective IMHO.
If you feel frustrated by this use this little app: Battery Indicator
ye i'm using that, i was just wondering which numbers are at fault there. lol. oh well. such paradox in my status bar. thanks for the quick reply.

The way I believe it works, and I might have the percentages slightly wrong is, especially the way they get rounded:
Actual/Graph
>79%/100%
50-79%/75%
25-49%/50%
>25%/25%
So, yes, you are always getting a readout that isn't very telling and is a step-gradual reading. The time you have the most information is right around, if/when you see a change. Other than that it can be barely more telling than a sundial .
Wrong info is in the notification bar (graphic battery). I've noticed the change upgrading to JM5 from JG5. Downgrading back to JG5 reverses the situation, which means the change is in framework-res.apk.
It is a change Samsung obviously did on purpose, but I wouldn't know why they settled for the worse...

Battery drain problem/sensor usage

I got a heavy battery drain after flashing to the official Kies 2.2 here in Norway, on JM2 I had over two days usable time, now down to a normal day.
I've reset it several times, tried running it without any apps at all, still heavy battery drain. After checking the battery statistics/history I can see under "Partial awake time", Android System, 2 hours after 14 hours "uptime". And under "Sensor use", Gallery eats up 9 hours, 11 mins. Now what the hell is that about T_T
At least waiting for the new official fw in november.. At least the GPS got better for my part, so it's not all bad
After updating to the official 2.2 that came here in Norway, I started experiencing heavy battery drain compared to before.
After some digging I noticed under *#*#4636#*#* and Battery History and Sensor Usage, Gallery is on top! And it's using the phone's sensors almost 100% of the time it's been on. So, now; the phone has been unplugged for 12 hours, 14 minutes, and Gallery has used the sensors for 12 hours, 4 minutes. Doesn't make sense.
I suspected wifi to be the culprit to begin with, as it throned at the top in the normal battery drainage-graph (about phone, battery usage), but even if I turned off wifi, 3g and autosync over the night, the battery percentage fell just as quickly.
Now, I've tried resetting the phone several times, as I thought it was an installed app that caused the drainage, but that wasn't the case. So, what else can I do when a reset doesn't do it?

Well, for what it's worth I too experienced exceptionally high battery usage when I updated to JP6 via KIES hack (same version as yours). Downgraded to the latest stock ROM for my region (Eclair JG4) and the issue is gone.
Now I think I will wait for the official 2.2 update for my region (although, having had a peek at what Froyo has to offer I think I can pretty safely even skip it without missing much).
I too notice a lot of power drain and general lack of ram. What I found was that froyo has a crapload of startup services/processes compared to eclair. I disabled most of them that could be removed and replaced most of the rest like k9 for email and handscent for messeging. System seems less laggy due to more free ram and more power as CPU isn't bogged down by extra unwanted processes like samsungs remote wipe and stupid sns

I'm also suffering from battery drainage with Froyo (JP6). I was quite satisfied with battery use on Eclair. Froyo has reduced battery life almost by 50 percent. I have same programs and I'm using exactly the same settings than with Eclair. I haven't noticed anything odd from the battery history statistics though. Only strange thing is that phone reports that screen in consuming over 90 percent of the battery all the time. Well, that's just not true.

it's a sensor issue, looking at the spare parts batt usage stats. but no idea what sensor/app is the culprit. very annoying
An App I use daily for all manor including checking battery usage is 'SystemPanel'. It's been a God-send and sorted out many a problem.
There's a Free & paid version but the App is that good I immediately went for the paid App.
In 6 hours battery has gone from full charge to 85% in standby mode.
Is this normal? Charge goes awfuly quick when using the phone.
3G on, all syncs off.
Running on Froyo reg hack. Same problem on Eclair!
Phone is 85% charge from full charge on idle over 6 hours.
3G is on, 2 bars showing. WiFi on, not connected.
Display 50%, WiFi 30%, Cell 14%, Phone 6%
Froyo, Eclair same usage except Wifi connected better with Eclair on home network...
2 meters from wifi transmitter and signal fluctuates.
Also, anyone's stock browser lags with yogurt? Was good on eclair
Is it because of fash? Seems to lag on all sites now.
Just to add to this... I had similar battery life in Froyo... HOWEVER, yesterday I used the Gallery and my battery drained from full in under 10 hours with no use (overnight standby with data off).
I check my battery stats when i switched my phone back on and they're okay for the 'since last unplugged'... however... for 'all time' gallery is also my highest user!
So, looks like gallery is only a problem if you use it... if not, it's fine.
crabby
I also have like a 2hr sensor usage on my gallery...
About the light sensor atleast on the JPM/JP6 theres like 2 steps of brightness full and low.. is this normal ?

Sensor usage for me was also 100% in spare parts, even if the phone was off. I had to turn off auto-rotate, and it quickly became a lot less. Although I have to say it haven't solved my problem! My battery consumption with full brightness over wifi is 10%/30 min. That's just ridiculous. I'm still on the problem, and will update anything I find out. We could actually make a "BIG BATTERY DRAINAGE" thread, where everybody posts detailed logs about the drain.

i'm on jp6 and my gallery is eating up my sensor usage too ):

activate monitoring under "menu / settings tab"
then you can see look under menu/monitor and select history tab..
on top tab where it says plot you can select top apps.
/H
just a question. you guys that are experiencing the sensor issues, are you on jp6? could it be a jp6 issue?
Exchange email accounts are a huge drain to in Scandinavian Froyo
If you set up Exchange email accounts, setting the Email retrieval update interval to anything else than 'Never' results in a continious 10% CPU load, draining the battery two times faster than in Eclair 2.1
Set it to 'Never', or have Tasker kill the Email app x seconds after Display Off
Determined by using System Panel app.
I have notice a large battery drain overnight with the OFFICIAL samsung froyo JPO. I suspect it may be the gallery/sensor issue.
1 can anyone affirm this.
2 can we replace the gallery or fix it
tanks
JPA was better for me. With JPO I noticed that the media scanner would eat up the CPU all the time. It seems to get stuck on certain files more easily.

Problem with battery after install 2.2.1 jpy

Since i flashed my galaxy s with 2.2.1 rom jpy (XEU product code) from kies i have a problem with my battery: when the battery is full charged at 100% and i disconnect the phone from ac adapter the battery go immediately at 98% or 99%, is there a way to fix this problem? I've just tried to discharge, recharge and wipe battery status with sgs tools but nothing happened...

Thank u! I've read almost all posts, but my problem isn't a drain battery problem, my battery discharge normally. The problem is : when i unplug the charger when the phone is fully charged, the battery passes from 100 to 98 or 99% instantly!
It's only 2 percent!!
I don't know why people are so sensitive about this issue.
It's a minor bug which hopefully will disappear in next firmware.
Until then just relax and enjoy latest firmware.
At least you don't have battery drain problem
Ya from my reading it seems to be agreed that it us a bug in jpy firmware.

it is not a bug at least with me.. the phone remembers off all batteries the hightest mv it obtained and unless you reset battery settings that becomes 100%. when plugged in and charging the battery most likely obtains that but then if it can hold a full charge any longer (ie wear) will drop to its max charge instantly once unplugged. I have 4 diff batteries .. one goes to 96 when unplugged , one to 98 ,, etc. etc. but my best one does stay at 100 when unplugged.. hope this helps.

Another bug is the battery usage indicator. The battery icon does not always reflect the amount of charge that is available. For example it may be 50% used but icon shows 75% available.

My understanding is that discharge curve is not linear and at 50% usable voltage you still have more than 50% life ahead...

I've read this post but it isn't my problem. My broblem is the battery go straight to 97 98 or 99% after i unplug the charger and the battery don't stay at 100% ever for 1 second. Are there any solutions?
this is normal for 2.2.. it is now detecting the mv in the battery and if it drops immediately this is due to battery wear.. i have 4 batterys they all drop different amounts but one does stay at 100% when unplugged. At some point your battery did stay higher thus the max setting.. i believe if you clear battery history in the recovery screen you will reset this behavior.
but i wouldnt worry about it.
But not always it drops to 98, sometimes to 97 or 99, but if i continue to plug the charger many other time and all the times i wait it tells me 100% from 97 the charge stay to 98, then 99 and sometimes maybe 100%.
However i haven't "battery clean history" option in recovery mode, i can wipe the battery status by shell command or by script in the sgs tools, is the same things?I've just try these methods by don't seem to work...
How can i do otherwise?
I hate this bug it makes me really angry!

Same thing for me!!!
I have the same problem. Still I managed to solve it after deleting few times the battery stats and after few charging cycles. Funny thing is that I have to reinstall my firmware and now the problem is back.
So, try to delete battery stats when the phone shows 100% and when is allmost discharged (under 5%) and give him some charging cycles.

i dont have this problem but my tab has a trouble charging the battery, when i plug it in for charging the battery percentage never moved until for about 6 hours then suddenly says fully charged but i take out charger it goes back to the previous percentage so i need to rebbot and after it shows the correct percentage kinda annoying.. this happened when i upgraded to roto-jmi v2may be i should downgrade to v1 coz i tried reflasing v2 still the same any help guys? callibrating doesnt work for me
Same thing here. Tried calibration, hard reset, flash new rom, delete batterybin file to recalibrate, still no go.

[Q] Crazy Battery Drain

Ive recently installed jokerdroid4.2 and have suffered some crazy battery drain. Pretty much every night if it isnt charging and left on battery, by the time i wake up ~50% of the charge has gone - last night i left it at 97 and this morning it was 53. Is there anything i can do to sort this issue because i never had it on cm7 and actually had great battery life on that. Thanks
fix = uninstall task manager and when charged at 100% (still plugged in to charger) download battery calibration app from market and do battery calibration. after that give the battery few full charge/discharge cycles (charge it to 100% and dont charge until battery dies and phone turns off). do that after flashing any rom. if that doesnt work, its a hardware problem prolly.
hit thanks if i helped u.

How does that help ?
He is saying battery is drained quickly, not that battery values are wrong.
There are apps that shows which software has consumed battery and by how much. Check in one of those list. If you haven't started using any new heavy apps then problem is related to basic functions like Mobile Data Network or WiFi or Cell Tower Signal etc.
Fix for these problems should be listed out by devs, but choose to ignore.

Plus, you dont need additional apps, any "monitoring" app just drains battery. You can check in settings.
