I can't belive that....again....
Well they had the problem with the Marked icon was gone when they did update it tru Kies and i did hear from some of the guys on the GSM samsung support that sometimes it did go to Download mode when they did the reset to get marked back... So in my eyes it is only to late they pull the firmware back again... lol...
But i think the biggest problem lies in Kies and not so much in the firmware as i have been using the JP6 for the last week now and no stability problems but i did also update using Odin...
@samsungukmobile Samsung UK Mobile
The Froyo upgrade will be available in the UK from early November and we expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November.
Can I hope that I'll do this update until 2011?
2020 is more likely to be the year..

True about Kies, must be a problem with it... They released about 5 updates last month.
Well i am just happy i never installed Kies on my computer... They should make Odin more user minded and use that as the update system on there android phones.. but then again they might just destroy that trying to make it user friendly..
looks like it's true coz actually galaxy 2.2 disappointed me, it's lag, slow.....
Hope that Samsung uses the extra time well and gets their act together,as their implementation of froyo on the Galaxy S has proven to be a very crippled and awkward one so far.
i've been using froyo 2.2 updated with odin and it works fine. i did install voodoo lag fix. can't really complain about it all.
Been using it since release day (updated through kies).
As stock rom i felt it very laggy and wasnt pleased at all, but i rooted it and applied lag fix, so it seems blazing fast now, getting good scores in linpack and quadrant.
Quadrant: 1882
Linpack: 14.38
Of course, there's a big risk attached in believing everything that GSM Arena says.... they have been known to get things wrong in the past. Quite a LOT wrong in fact...

well considering that 75% of the GSM calls on the nordic samsung support the last week have been about the missing marked icon/download mode after 2.2 in Kies i might say that it seems like the right thing to do...
But again forgot to ask them there before i did go home..
Wow, I thought the HTC Hero saga was pathetic, but we're on the same boat now.

Samsung Spain on their Facebook page has said that Froyo update will be through Kies at the end of October
http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=161124793901551&id=108610811866
I think it's only for Spain. Other countries will getting end of September. That what I heard.
probably needs time to translate the ROM from English to Spanglish
Well, if what they currently have is remotely similar to the leaked JPH firmware, I bet that end of October sounds more reasonable as a release date. I don't think they are ready yet.

If JPH is what they have at the begining of September, they still have much work to do. I'm not accepting a Froyo ROM that has bugs that were not present on Android 2.1 ROMs, it would be absurd.
for India too it has been postponed to October WTF!
This better be a great firmware that is fast enough... I mean delY after delay..i think the perception now is ... It better be good.
Having said that jph to me has been the greatest firmware so far... No problems..
Hey let them take the time if they can produce a better firmware.
A few people still report issues with it so why not.
I'm in no hurry. People are so impatient these days.
+1.
Better get a decent firmware 1 month later than get crap now and have them not evolve it anymore.
Of course, both worlds would be better. A free lunch either!

hell yes, take all the time you need samsung (reasonably), dont give us crap.
Yeah, Samsung is staying true to tradition in either delaying all updates or not releasing at all. Very disappoint after they release such an awesome product.
In the earlier post i read that oct is date for india too. This is real bad news for indian sgs owners because i for one was waiting for sept last week release. I hope this piece of news is not true.

This news is true. I am just pissed off. Samsung is such a big company and it cant even iron out few obvious bugs. the great thing is that samsung has not even confirmed that they will fix the lag. They have not even accepted that their RFS is ****. If HTC and Motorola can release the good froyo builds in less time, then why not smasung? I dont think their touchwiz UI will take more time than HTC sense UI. Samsung just cares for money. They got the money, now they will concentrate on other new models. This is my last phone from samsung.

HTC is also not God's gift to the cellphone world ... Not all HTC phones have froyo yet ( Legend and Wildfire for example) Here in the netherlands the Legend was released before the desire but still no update to froyo not even a date for the eventual update .. there was an ota update for the legend about 2 motns ago with lots of bugs .. No word from htc about that and even worse not even an update that fixes the problems .. The 2.2 update for the Desire also wasn't without problems .. What I am saying is : the grass is allways greener on the other side ..but when you take a closer look you will see the truth

what the hell you guys upset about? it's a good phone yes, it does what it needs to do yes, so you see there is no problem and it's only a figment of your imagination.
besides that I believe that Samsung outsources their coding jobs to third parties what would explain constant delays because outsourcing stuff always gives delays as you have little grip on the company you outsource it to.
so in the end it all makes sense and stop blaming Samsung for trying ;O
I'm looking forward to a stable update that might even bring some benefits.
But come on, grow some patience. If they did have a launch plan for late September and during testing decided it wasn't ready yet, well, so be it. Meanwhile the phone do what its supposed to do better then my old phone and with a gadget factor of 1000 more on top of that. CIV V will be out, the autumn TV-series are appearing and between that and working end of october will be here in no time...
at least HTC flagship device like Desire is not as problematic as ours. Do u see any premier device from any of the top companies has lagging problem like the Galaxy S? (and x10 )
if not because of this problem, i dont give a damn on froyo. i dont need flash, because I've used to iPhone for the whole 2009. Wireless tethering is already available in SGS' 2.1 rom.. i just need a smooth device for my daily use! and i spent MYR2600 to get this phone which equivalents to average fresh graduates salary in my country.
personally I'm not too bothered at the moment as with jm7 (can't be bothered to go to jm8 unless there is a very good reason to put the hours in again) and the voodoo fix along with autokiller set to strict my phone is very nice to use now and does everything I need it to anyway.
It is a little disappointing to have to wait even longer, but I'm absolutely not surprised as I said all along I think it'll be near xmas before we get a good solid froyo firmware with not too many bugs in; besides, I've got a feeling that this will be a big anti climax anyway... I certainly won't be expecting the huge link scores of the nexus one, but my device proves already it has the potential to run as fast anyway already.
Tbh I'd settle for the niggles being ironed out and am not too concerned yet for the os version; for the time being I'm more concerned on the end result.
I too though won't be buying another samsung device of any kind, not because of the froyo debacle, but because every samsung product I've bought has been sub par.

Check out this thread for FROYO by SamFirmWare
Code:
Samsung Starts with Froyo updates next week.
They start with Europe.
After Europe the will go to Asia and Africa.
Every Galaxy S user could update his device with Samsung Kies.
Or with our way. (ODIN)
The firmwares will be XWJPA or XXJPO. (For Europe)
Both firmwares leaked on our website already.
So if you want you could download them and update your mobile!
Good Luck!
Remember after this Release Samsung keep supporting your device!
So please check weekly Samsung Kies or our website!
Why we think this are the KIES releases?
When you checked all newsmessages you find out that Samsung removed JPM from his servers.
A couple of days ago SamsungMobileUK place on his facebook and twitter that they start in begin November till the end of November for all operators.
When we check now the new Firmware versions it could be the new KIES releases. For Europe and Scandinavian.
Every Galaxy S phone will have Android 2.2 before 2011!
We have currently no information for the Samsung I5800 and I5500.
But JPA has many bugs... This is the famous new and fast FW?
I wonder how many will sell their devices if this is true?

This has been said over a billion times, no software will be w/o bugs. Even HTC devices are pretty buggy.. Probably the one with the least bugs is the Nexus 1.

I know I won't.
I love the phone and I am on 2.1.
I can't see what's the big deal with froyo. None of the features it brings are groundbreaking (maybe with the exception of flash 10).
I don't think I would upgrade anyway...

That's nice, but I don't think any of these updates are "must have" for me. The changes on the gmail app are not essential for me. I don't use youtube that much and when I use it I find it good enough and the skype implementation is not bringing video calls, so I don't want it.
If and when something amazing comes to 2.2 that I definitely must have, I may upgrade. Until then I would rather see bug fixes than new features as the phone already does a lot!
running jp6 with a modded kernel (341 megs by hardcore!), and its extremely quick and stable! i totally love my sgs the way it is now and have very few things to whine about
i just want samsung to commit on gingerbread for our devices
So, that "fast" FW samfirmware was talking about is going to be just a firmware with less lags than in pulled scandinavian official Froyo? That sucks, because my phone feels laggy (black screens) even on JM9 with Voodoo. And lagfix is the ONLY thing that i need from new FWs.
At least we will have official Froyo.... be happy!

I'm sorry but it's not cool. Samsung seems to have this strange policy to release high-end devices and not provide proper support for them.
Right now I'm using JPK with OCLF and Launcher Pro Plus and I'm happy with my phone. But both OCLF and Launcher Pro are third party apps.
There are tons of lagfix solutions and custom ROMs that are better than the stock ones.
Customizing your device must be a choice and not a necessity so you can get decent performance on a top-notch hardware.
And I keep getting the feeling that they leak ROMs intentionally and use XDA users as guinea pigs. And are using devs to fix the issues...
Sorry that my first post ever in this forum is so negative but I'm getting really mad and impatient with Samsung...

Yeah, the lagfixes are great, except when they corrupt your IMEI and cause other issues. You do get decent performance without them. The lag patches haven't been flawless either... And yes, despite the crap samsung gets, I used an iPhone 4 the other day, and it was taking MUCH longer to respond to minor things (despite the fact iphones use compiled code, so they should be even more responsive).
In regards to samfirmware, forget about the rumor sites, most of them have been consistently wrong, and haven't been using credible sources.
@Sociopathic: I have a friend with HTC Desire and Froyo for 4 months I guess and he's not happy... he feels that the Froyo update for his phone is not properly made.
My guess is Samsung was not prepared for Andorid's rise. Not even Google. So, we have to be pacient. Good things will come with Android. Samsung is moving slow because is a huge company with a lot of people to decide what and when goes online, each one pushing his interests. Someone wants Froyo so contain this, other that and so on...
Tolisan decided to sell his Galaxy S. He cut the **** and moved on.
Enjoy your Galaxy S or buy something else. I'm happy with mine! Best phone I ever had!
*yawn*
i'm more excited with the post about samsung's intention to make better pc software then kies
Why you complain everytime about bugs?
I use my phone often, and most of all "bugs" are PEBTAC.
(Problem exists between Touchscreen and chair).
But I'm wondering about the not optimized JIT.
Is it so difficult for Samsung to unleash the performance of the 1337 CPU?
And it's strange that they canceled JPM and made just minor changes.
That's what disappointed me

JPM was possibly only a release candidate in the first place. And we don't know exactly what was fixed anyway. There may have been some less-common major bugs fixed.
In regards to optimising JIT, our JIT might be optimised, but might simply not be optimised for the benchmarks. Remember, most CPU benchmarks only test a small number of instructions.
we need to find out why ginger bread was taken away and when its going to get released again....ive searched and all i can find on android web sites saying the info about google pulling the plug on the galaxy s ginger bread was from xda but no body on here knows whats going on
its because of a few issues / bugs, and is not finalised / stable enough to be released for kies (samsung are strict on this ) but its still available here on XDA and on samfirmware
They will bring it out when they think its ready for release. I'm happy to wait if they fix the problems and release a decent version.

I think there is no way to know why.
Of course there is ppl that knows but it seems not likely that they will post a explanation here, and even if they did someone will always say “no the reason is this or that” and the speculations will never end.
just my 2cents.

No one has mentioned the front camera orientation bug yet???
I am also glad that they should be working hard on a newer better version right now, whatever the specific problem that got it pulled might have been.
The initial version seemed a bit rushed, being first with a 2.3 update is fine to brag about but I think we'd rather have it done right. I believe I heard somewhere that it shouldn't have even been released and somebody jumped the gun?

Do you mean that the official samsung firmwares (the ones released with kies) have less bug than the others ?
Less lag ? Better GPS ?
I've my SGS since July and I'm still waiting for an official GPS fix
Gingerbread was announced for march, then delayed for april, and now we don't have any schedule...
Same story than the froyo update, with the difference that they now are trying to charge Google for the delay.
Where is SamsunJohn ?

Thats the only official path others are might be or might not be the real deal .
Kies will release firmware that has been branded /adapted by the network supplier . Basic unbranded phone get the vanilla update .
If the update is xxbb version then it will be the same as xxbb verion from other sources .
JVB lets call it still beta has slightly better performance than the almost no lag 2.2.1 that is i dont require a lagfix for either .
GPS is i reckon about 10% better compared to 2.2.1 > 11 sats found compared to 7 on 2.2.1 is the cold boot average for me .
Battery life looks to be better as well .

Good evening guys and girls,
Had a surprise visit from a Samsung UK field rep today, who when asked about 2.3.4, he said his Galaxy S2 already running a build and had been for 3 weeks, he said it was nice and stable, didn't get chance to nab a photo but he said it was supposed to start rolling out from around the 10th of June to XEU handsets in the UK.
His handset was KE6 and KE9
Crossing my fingers big time.
Hope it will fix battery drain.
That would be nice.
This is exciting to hear. Thanks for sharing. Always look forward to a new firmware as it can sometimes fix little issues here and there
This actually confirms what I got told my a SammySon engineer and also what balenax has posted on here.
this is great news, will developers of the popular roms need to start from scratch?
What are the news/addition of android 2.3.4?
Just my luck as I'll be out of town till the 13th so no pc access to update :|

really hope we get 2.3.4 soon, this battery life sucks.
if we are using a UK version in the U.S do you think we will get the ota update or will we have to wait until someone posts it on the forum?
I hope it will stop the battery drain and the smartphone heat (sometimes)!
Do you think we will have to reset the phone or are we able to flashing over existing KE7(currently installed)?
4.3 is now rolling in a number of countries for Vodafone-branded i9300 but I talked to some of my friends and everybody on stock getting it told me they are very disappointed - to the point where it was even suggested it was only done to push people to buy the S4
LOL. Where is the Poll
And for your information, yes i am.
Right. A poll thread without the actual poll xD. But to answer your question... for me I'm not that disappointed because I'm in no rush to update just because there's an update. People just expected something from Samsung's firmware updates for the S3 since it's still the best selling flagship phone from them but in that Samsung failed hence people now switching to Nexus devices. I can't really blame those people though because my next smartphone will no longer be Samsung but a Nexus device. So basically I'm not happy with Samsung's handling of updates not with their devices itself
EDIT:
Now I see the poll
At last we are getting 4.3 :good:
As posted fools rush in where wise men fear to tread .
Others can beta test for me ,
All that wait for nothing whats new and full of lag 4.3 is crap

They don't even care of the problems, and continue to release this **** all over the countries!!!
Shame on Samsung for their tremendous work and indifference,

I´m not happy with 4.3 and switched back to 4.1.2 - but I hope there will be an update soon without all that bugs.
I made the mistake of upgrading to 4.2.2 leak without a previous nandroid. I was having so much problems and was really happy when 4.3 leak came out. But the deep sleep problems plus constant freezes continued. (I didn't want to go through a data wipe and reconfig).
installing yank's kernel didn't help much.
It was only when I installed wanamlite and yank that I regained the stability and battery I once had in 4.1.2. Should´ve waited more...
Hi All,
Yes, I'm happy.
But just after install a Custom Kernel. In the case Yank.555 kernel.
[]'s
Was hoping for 3.4 kernel, disappointed
I surprisingly checked for an update last night (11th nov) and to my surprise it started to download ota 4.3.
It's now 24 hrs later and im really really fed up with it.
This wake screen caper that everyone's talking about is no joke. Its horrendous.
This coupled with the fact that the android os has used 40% oc ths battey today and the screen has used 31%!!!!!! I just canr believe it. That they would release such a carp firmware.
I used to flash alot of sonys in the past but have never delved into Samsung flashing before as ive heard lots can go wrong and im at my teathers end because I like all of you need my phone for work.
im desperate to change back tonight but need to find my uk unbranded fw first and then learn how to do it . Ive heard a lot of people losing their imei whilst rolling back so im just stuck
every app lags
the whole design of it just sucks really
Updated ota last night on BTU. Lock screen a bit laggy but on the whole not too bad. After all it is 4.3, I'm sure all will be good on 4.3.1 or .2 or .3........
Just ordered Nexus 5. Sorry Samsung, great phone but tooooo slow with updates.....
Sometimes upto 10 seconds wakeup lag, a lot of apps are slow to startup, my saved words in predictive text have erased theirself twice, don't know about others but multi window won't work at all and has huge lag at doing basically anything...
So yeah I'd say I'm not happy and is by far the worst update I've seen on S3, So I'm going back to 4.1.2
Let's check it all out for myself and out of curiousity, and give a DECENT feedback on 4.3..
For those who are NOT happy, maybe try a custom ROM and kernel? I've found it provides more than you could need for daily use!! And with 4.4 development coming up, forget about stock sammy!
Other than the very slightly improved multitasking (still pretty garbage), the experience has never been so laggy. What a useless update, looks like Samsung didn't try to even fix the fundamental problem of the s3, and it's actually laughable when a quad core cpu phone manages to lag thus badly.
