Galaxy S 2.2 and Iplayer - Galaxy S I9000 General

Ive tried searching around the forums for this question but dont think it came up, was just wandering will it be possible to use BBC Iplayer when my I9000 is upgraded to 2.2? I was reading that it would be available to phones on froyo but will this include the I9000?

Yep, it works fine on my Galaxy S with the Nordic Froyo.

Yep works brilliant. Only with default browser though as BBC doesn't pick up Opera as supported.

Works, they've created a nice mobile theme as well

Works for me on Nordic 2.2 too but Wifi only. Says only 3UK and vodafone contract are allowed to stream over 3g network, I am on vodafone contract tho so thats odd.

Myplayer on the market is a good alternative why you wait for froyo.. Use it all the time for bbc Iplayer

mplayer is ok ish but the streams are highly compressed more so then the mobile iplayer versions. It's ok but can't wait for proper iplayer support.

Aye, it works well on 2.2 even over 3G
Wee bit disappointing that you can't download programmes to watch later though

I get this too, I reckon if we change our user agent string to a desktop computer it might work, because I can wifi tether my laptop to my vodafone phone and get iplayer no problem, therefore the sim is definitely capable.

You can change your useragent by typing about:useragent into the stock browser's address bar. Do the same to change back to android agent. I use all the time to see Amazon's proper webpage instead of the mob version. Also works on rude-tube sites ;-)

I am now on 2.2 at last... I have just tried the iplayer site and whatever i do it just keeps.coming back with please download adobe flash player from market. I have followed the lin and got 10.1 flash reloaded the page and everything just keeps saying the same message when trying to watch any show

I updated the firmware as in the below link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827853
This worked for me now able to view the full site from DolphinHD. Still dont know how the change the UserAgent in the stock brower though.
I remeber it being about:config on my Desire, but that doesnt work as this is Samsung's Browser and not HTC's.
about:useragent for the stock browser, but it doesn't help with iPlayer.

Enter "about:useragent" in the address bar, and select the Desktop user agent.
It doesn't persist though, which is annoying!

Dave
Also look at the foot of the web page concerned..... If it can go to Desktop you should see an option named 'Classic'. If so click on it to change from Mobile view to Desktop.
a former iphone zombie here, they had a sbsettings toggle called user agent faker... for android the equiv would be a toggle switch widget on the desktop?... not sure if its out there, been searching though. looking for a persistant toggle..

I can change the user agent, but seems not to be stored. if I enter again in "about:useragent", the "custom" option remains selected.
Or just download Dolphin HD browser, then in the browser,go to settings>Useragent and choose desktop instead of Mobile by default, worked great for me.
Dolphin HD browser + euro firmware did the trick for me.

Using Dolphin HD browser on US T-Mo, agent switched to Desktop and no luck - it would still go to mobile version. Same settings in the same browser on my EVO - no problem - always takes me to a full website. I hope there is some other solution. Otherwise it is very annoying not to be able to see full NY Times site...

Well! Too many of xda member faced this problem. But there is no such probbaly tweak to prevent the Tab access defaut webpage from it's stock browser.
Anybody has found a solution ? It's super annoying not to be able to see the "normal" websites given the form factor of the Tab...
Are you guys talking about the homepage? Or the fact that the stock browser reverts to mobile user agent upon closing? The stock browser will not save user agent settings after being closed. Download a new broswer. Don't rely on stock.

The thing is... why should you have to download a different browser just to be able to view web sites in desktop mode ~ and even then different browsers don't necessarily give you a desktop view.
As an example I have Dolphin HD installed and if you attempt to access either ITVPlayer or the BBC web site you get the mobile version.
sadly, you need to re-do the about:useragent everytime you completely close the browser. Also, on stock UK firmwares (Even JJ7) iPlayer doesn't work even with desktop mode selected. Need to be on JM6 or JMA for the fixed browser.

It works on JM6 ? OK, good to know
Try skyfire.
It works for mine (T-Mobile US version)
if you wants normal desktop browsing try Miren Browser and in the options set the Desktop version( or the ipad version, it works)
however,
some sites (like megavideo) will go further than a User Agent and try to guess if you are really on a desktop or not, to redirect you to some annoying ads and jo-games.com
if you want to avoid that use NetFront Live Browser, it's the best low level changer browser for android so far, you won't be dissapointed and its kind of tablet optimized.

about:debug everytime?

Ok, so I do the about:debug thing on my Xoom because I like to view my sites in desktop view, but everytime I restart I have to do it all over again. Is there anyway to fix this other then rooting my Xoom?
There is a way but only works on the 3G. It's on the development forum.

That sucks bc i have the wifi only model(not a big fan of Verizon) and it always comes undone for me.

Just use Dolphin Mini & set user agent as desktop and you're done for good.Plus it works 100 times better than the stock browser.

Update 1.2 Hulu hack?

Hi I did the update to 1.2 does anyone know how to make this hulu hack work for NC 1.2
--------
mobilecrunch . com /2010/ 05/ 24/ how-to-watch-hulu-on-android-2-2
(note remove spaces)
First up, open up your browser. Now, type “about:debug” (without the quotes, silly) and hit go. Click “Settings”, and scroll on down to the bottom to reveal the dastardly tricky “UAString”.
This is where the plan gets really cunning: you now change your user agent string — the bit of info that tells a website what type of device you are running — to “Desktop”.
From now on, Hulu (and every other website) will think you’re accessing it from — you guessed it — a desktop PC rather than a mobile device.
---------
thanks in advance
Hulu disabled the ability to do this on any android device about a day after somebody figured it out. There is a hacked Flash out there somewhere that can fool Hulu, but there won't be a way to run it until somebody roots 1.2.
That being said, doing the above trick to edit the UA string is still good because it gives you the real version of websites in general.
Try PlayOn. They now have a mobile setup and an Android App. I use it on my nook running Nookie FroYo.
Basically you install PlayOn on a PC in your house. Then you install the PlayOn app on the nook. You have to connect the PlayOn app to the PlayOn server via the same WiFi the first time, but after that you can watch Hulu, Netflix, Amazon VOD, and many others on your nook anywhere you have an internet connection!
No need for about:debug on Stock. Just go to settings and UA Changer is at the Top. Only Desktop and Mobile modes though.

I have always run NC in desktop browser mode, but sometimes sites load the m.site version. it is rather annoying.

Scrolling in box on browser

Hi,
I have problem with scrolling in the browser, whether it is stock or dolphin browser.
If you look at the link below there is a list of players, in this case the goalkeepers to choose from in fantasy league, I am unable to scroll down on a box such as this. This is just one example of the issue :
http://fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk/select-team/
Does anyone have a solution? I know on iphone you can use two finger scrolling.

Use another browser like Opera Mobile or Firefox Beta 6.0
Do you have updated Adobe Flash Player?

Got no updates showing on market for flash and always update when available. So should have latest version.
I've tried opera and switched to desktop mode and still not working.
There has to be a solution!

Firefox beta works fine, wish dolphin could do it though.
If you haven't installed flash 10.3 then there might be an update available.
When I got my SGS 2 and when I factory reset it, no updates show for flash or gmail, but when I search for flash and gmail in the market, and click on them, it has the option to "update" rather than install.
Dont know if you know what I mean, but search for flash 10.3 and it should allow you to update it.

The part of the webpage that the OP is having problems with does not use flash, it's a table.
I tried the site myself in several browsers, and can confirm the only ones I could get the list to be scrollable in were Firefox and Firefox Beta. Even then they don't have a scrollbar, you have to swipe within the table area. I presume this is by design.

Good point. I just checked and it's just a div with overflow set to auto (show scrollbars if required). This is old CSS and really should show in all browsers. Some investigation is required.
Thanks guys, will give firefox a whirl.
