Hi everyone. I would appreciate any help on my current problem.
I'm running rooted Vibrant with JI6 update and RyanZA OCLF. My bumbling with the Vibrant has resulted in the following scenario:
I backed up TWCalendar and Provider apk and odex and deleted both from /system/app.
After reboot, I uninstalled com.android.calendar and com.android.provider.calendar.
Another reboot, and I installed a Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk, stock calendar apps from I believe CM5.0.8 for N1. Installed via Root File Manager and another stroke of reboot magic.
Calendar worked perfectly, except for an unsightly gray bar obscuring the top portion of the calendar. I thought thinks may have gotten mucked up with an install. So I did an uninstall->reboot->install->reboot. Gray bar was still there. So I decided to just go back to touchwiz calendar. I uninstalled Calendar and CalendarProvider, rebooted, moved my TWCalendar.apk and Provider apk and odex from backup, and then selected TWCalendar.apk to install. Said application did not install. Thought I would settle, for the meantime then, on the N1 calendar, so moved the TW apk and odexes to backup and once again tried to install Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk. I tried to install Calendar.apk through root file manager, and it said application not installed. Now, I can install neither the normal calendar nor the TW calendar. Any attempts greet me with "Application Not Installed."
Anyone have any advice?
Thank you so much for any assistance.

Hello,
Quick inquiry with regards to a minor complication when attempting to flash a custom theme to a Sony Xperia X10.
The device has been rooted successfully and is currently running Wolfbreaks CM 6.1.3 v053.
I have attempted to flash a custom theme titled "Galaxy S for CyanogenMod 6.1.1 Stable". Everything functions perfectly thus far. Other then the fact that upon reboot an error messages specifies that Gmail has ceased unexpectedly.
The exact message displayed is quoted as "The application Gmail (process com.google.android.gm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Although this message displays consistently upon each attempt to restart the program. Also automatically once the device initializes from a reboot or shutdown. The theme was flashed via xrecovery as custom zip. As per instructions "cmparts_ui.xml" was transferred to /sdcard/CMTheme and selected from the Tweaks menu.
(Thread referenced: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876600)
This problem did not occur originally when CM 6.1.3 was flashed. Would resolution be a matter of reflashing Cyanogenmod? or as simple as updating the application itself within the market? I can not locate any original files to flash back to the provided theme packaged with the most recent 6.1.3 mod and I can only surmise that doing so would resolve this issue.
Final note would be the process one would take to uninstall such custom themes. I've noticed deleting the .xml file from the sd card does remove it from the tweaks menu. However does this procedure ensure deletion of all associated files? Or is there a proper method to ensure complete removal is successfully accomplished?
Any feedback with respect to this particular theme including whether or not it would be necessarily recommended is much appreciated. This wouldn't be my first flash/root/modification or customization of a device. However this is my first Xperia X10. So I do want to make sure I am being as accurate as possible to avoid any future complications.
Thanks for everyones time and attention.
*Although on the plus side I'm able to transfer my contacts from a SIM card directly to the device with this current version of firmware. Such feature was greyed out in the menu initially
the theme probably has a custom gmail apk in it. which is either broken or incompatible with 6.1.3.
try opening wb's 6.1.3 with 7zip and pull the gmail.apk from that rom. copy it to your sd card, then use root explorer to copy it to /system/app. give it the correct permissions and reboot. problem should be fixed.
hello
thanks for your reply. your instructions sounded quite logical and i assumed id have no complications. i copied the app as per your instructions. overwrote the existing entry when prompted. however upon reboot gmail has been removed off the home screen.
attempting a manual install either within the system/app directory or through the sd card returns an unable to install error message.
ive gone ahead and downloaded the gmail app from the market. which thankfully does install. it is functioning and installs successfully to the device.
presumably anyone experiencing this same issue should download the app from the market very strange occurrence indeed.
my only other issue currently is the GPS functionality. switching on the gps displays no indicator within the toolbar. location based services seem not to pick up a location what so ever.
im hopeful this isnt a result of flashing this particular theme. any suggestions?
If you have flashed a framework etc for that theme (using xrec) it won't reverse if you delete that xml file in the sd card.
If you want to go back to original make a copy of that theme xrec and replace its apks with the apks from the ROMs xrec zip. Then flash it.
And if you want to use the theme and also the gmail apk look and feel (theme). Try replacing original gmail apks .png images, which are in drawable-hdpi etc. folders, with the themes gmail apk images.

after you copied to /system/app, did you change permissions?
the theme may not have a status_gps.png icon or, it's the same color as your status bar.
the app never requested a permission change. upon trying to start originally would just return error.
this was resolved by downloading directly from the market. my only issue now is what to do with the gps connectivity? as it does not seem to be returning a location. the only other thing ive noticed is the default camera app does not zoom.
im trying to assess whether any of this is a result of having changed the theme to the galaxy s cm 6.1 mentioned in the initial post, and how to go about fixing these issues to avoid having to flash back to the original cm6 stock theme.
** GPS has been fixed and is fully functional. Single issue remains with regards to camera not zooming what so ever. Although now attempting an upgrade to CM7. Thanks everyone
In the dev forum, there is a helpful post on how to root and then install the google apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349902
Like others on the thread, I had a problem with the market and other apps force closing all the time; what's missing from the instructions there is that when you change the permission of the apk files copied into the /system/apps directory, you must also make sure that they are owned by root. In my case, they were owned by the OS user on the machine I connected the kindle to when I transferred the files.
So, in root explorer, after you change the permissions to rw-r--r--, long press again on the file, choose Change owner, and change both the owner and the group to root.
I'd be stoked if this actually worked for me. It's really weird, everything was working fine this morning then it just randomly started force closing google services framework on me left and right. Now I can't even get talk to work at all.
Damn, I feel stupid. I made the mistake of removing the stock system calendar and contacts files. I found the system dump file and put everything back but either I forgot to install them or the system uninstalled them on me. Anyways, installing solved the problem.
Now I'm having another really weird problem. I do the initial install of the market then I have the market up and running once I do a reboot. After any subsequent reboot, market automatically uninstalls and I have to use TiBackup to reinstall it. Fortunately, once I restore, I don't have to reboot again but that is a major pain.
Has anyone been able to restore Google Calendar sync to their Kindle post 6.2.1 update?
I managed to get Market working again via the GoogleServicesFramework.apk that someone posted previously... But it does not seem to restore Calendars.
Calendars are synced with GoogleCalendarSyncAdaptor.pak. Not sure you can do anything with it without root though. It is normally installed into /system/apps
I just took the easy route and paid $6 for CalenGoo in the appstore. It syncs calendars just fine.
I have not checked to see what happened to my other sync'ed items other than email. Don't know for sure whether contacts and pictures quit syncing.
Sorry guys but Im *bump*ing this -
Finally got rooted via burrito root, superuser running, reinstalled googleservices framework.
Attempting to install "GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk" again and get "Application Not Installed".
Any input? Come on guys this should be pretty elementary right?
UPDATE : Re-Downloaded GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk which seems to have become corrupt. All is working!!
I was able to re-copy the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk back to /system/app once re-rooted using BurritoRoot, and calendar syncing is working fine. But I can't "install" it - when trying, it says it wasn't installed.
Even though it seems that we don't NEED to install it, I think I would LIKE to install it, because that's what I think makes it survive firmware updates (I installed the market apk after putting it in /system/app, and even though the copy in /system/app is long gone, the market has kept working for me through two updates).
If you did indeed install it after putting it in /system/app, can you post a link to where you got it?
You don't install it. You just place it in /system/app, set the permissions correctly, and then reboot your device.
Unlike the market, which you DO install, you don't install the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk. It will not survive an OTA update if the next one does the same thing the others have done which is to wipe /system and rebuild it.
That was what I assumed, but when someone reported that their calendar was still syncing after the 6.2.1 update I started wondering if there was some process we could follow so as not to lose it. Not a huge deal but it would save time and effort -- for me that was the only thing so far that I wanted to re-root for after 6.2.1.

I've read this in several places, so the fact that it's not working for me is frustrating. I've searched for instructions on how to sync Google calendar with CalenGoo but everyone says it 'just works.' Can anyone explain the process of getting CalenGoo to sync with Google calendar on a Kindle Fire? There seems to be nowhere to add my calendar within the app, so I'm really confused and feeling like I wasted $6.
FYI: I have full root access and placed the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk file in my system/app folder (and rebooted).
I installed a stripped version of stock Lollipop and have used it for my daily driver for a while. There are a few of the widgets/apps missing that I'm trying to add back. I've got the weather widget APKs, but can't get it to install. I've copied it to the system folder and reset permissions and still nothing. I just get a message after the reboot that weather failed. Anybody have any ideas or another APK that will work with stock lollipop? I appreciate it.
Hi,
I recently rooted my Note 5, and was trying to update the following stock apps: Phone, Messages, Contacts. First, I uninstalled them all using SD Maid Pro, then downloaded the latest version of the apps (for Android 7 and +) from apkmirror. However, except for Phone, I encountered the conflicting package error. Furthermore, even after I rebooted (and tried replacing it from data/app to system/priv-app), Phone app could not be found. Currently, I have neither of the apps and cannot use my phone to call or send an SMS.
I have no intention to flash a stock ROM and lose everything I've built and set up so far.
Any help that regards to installing the latest version of the aforementioned apps is appreciated,
Thank you.
EDIT: Manually installed the apps by creating a folder with the same name as the .apk file in system/priv-app and giving the right permissions to the file (rw-r--r--) for each of the apps.
