lol.. this has been asked numorous times.. H > 3G
3G = UMTS
H = HSDPA/HSPA
although for HSPA+ on the G2.. they should have an H+ icon.
go google it
Can not get an internet connection.
I am a T-Mobile US user and I booted Froyo Stone 3.2 on my HTC HD2 for the first time ever like two days ago, complete nooby here. Been searching the forums for advice. Was wondering what you did to get your internet connections.hope you can help. The Froyo Stone build is awsome.
Just settle up your APN and switch your Network Mode to GMS only from GSM/WCDMA auto. Beside sometimes you gotta unmount your SD card and mount it back when your signal drop or stop recieving. Shouldn't be no problem for you to get internet connection right away.
Thanks so much for the advice R3oDaWhOa I literally stayed up all night last night digging through the Froyo Stone 3.2 build thread and I finally come across the APN fix with a step by step walk through wish I could remember the name of the user That posted it so I could give him proper credit too. Thanks again though.

I have had my Nexus One for a few hours now and I am very impressed, the only thing I have noticed is that the network is showing as 3G and not H for HSPDA which I would normally get where I live.

I too have noticed this. I have played with the APN's as well.
Anyone know anything about this?
don't think it is necessarily an issue below is a quote that I found on another forum
"Vanilla Android does not have an H symbol. It's an added feature of some phones.
If you want to know what you're getting dial *#*#4636#*#* then on the screen that comes up select phone information - on there is the connection type."
if you still can't find it doing hsdpa, then maybe it is a real issue
Hey guys i need your help. I been flashing lots of roms for the past year. all of a sudden playing with the newer roms last night.
i went to speedteam eclair
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691445

Then all of a sudden today my cell doesnt get any more NETWORK CONNECTION , no 3g , no reception, i checked the apn, search network connections...Nothing
found out its the sim card...swapped it with my other nexus one phone and indeed its the simcard...
so i guess new question is what went wrong with my simcard?
I was running CM 5.0.6 on my N1 for several weeks along with the 4.04.00.03_2 Radio to try to solve some of the preference for EDGE that my TMO N1 had. The problem that I ran into was that I went from some HSPA to none in areas that I know are covered by HSPA. I would constantly use only UMTS! I just flashed Kang-O-Rama 0.8 which requires the FroYo radio and presto, either the base CM 5.0.8, Kang-O-Rama 0.8, or more likely the 4.06.00.12_7 Radio fixed my problem. In fact, I am now getting 2000-3000 kbps down and my phone seems to prefer 3g down to 1 bar where as before it would stick on EDGE until I forced it to WCDMA Only.
Just thought I'd post some good news about the new radio(possibly the radio that is).

Yeah, that's a bummer with the stock ROMs. Here's what I do to make sure that a relatively long data sesion is opened. Start a streaming app like Pandora or download a large email (i.e. with a 3meg picture) and then goto Settings -> About Phone -> Status and scroll down to Mobile network type. This should show either UMTS(if you are in 3g but no active data connection) or hopefully HSDPA if you ahve an active data connection.
There are other ways to tell, but this is what I do.

It wasn't really stock it was pauls version, now I'm running kangs .9 and no change
Actually I ran speed test and it did switch rio HSDPA but only 430kbps
I got it last night with the FRF85B, and my N1 seem to be staying in 3G more consistently today
After I went to FRF83 my reception went from only edge in my house to full bars of 3G. Reception has improved more than I could have hoped.

You guys want to tell us what city & carrier?
I am having a strange problem with the connection speed on my inspire 4g. it is always in G or in E, never in H (this refers to the symbols displayed in the info bar, corresponding to Edge, G2 and High Speed respectively). It has nothing to do with my sim (i have put it in another phone, went into H no problems) and it has nothing to do with the network (my friend's cheapo HTC Hero is on H all the time).
I am outside the US. The phone is a HTC inspire 4g, which i bought new and decoded. Here are the steps i have been through:
- I have rooted the phone and initially installed Inspired 4G ROM; This has not solved the problem;
- I have then wiped it and made a clean install with LeeDroid ROM 2.2.3; this has also not solved the problem;
- i have flashed the radio with Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M2; still the problem continues
I am running out of ideas, why would such a smart phone not connect to a readily available High speed network?
By The way, i have dialed *#*#4636#*#* - i have tried to set the preferred network type to both WCDMA preferred and various other GPS/CDMA auto PRL, etc - no change. the phone info in this menu shows "network type:GPRS". in my friend's HERO (again same network, same place, same provider, same sim card), if i enter this menu, it says "Network type:HSDPA"
Any ideas? What's going on here?
Did it work prior to updating rom? If not, the carrier that you are using may not be on the 2100mhz/900mhz high speed bands that the dhd uses. I made this mistake and purchased a dhd without checking and I'm stuck with gprs/edge, mainly using 850mhz 2g not 3g ... until I change to a carrier that use 2100mhz/900mhz or upgrade to another phone

Did you mange to sort this out? I have a similar problem with DHD. It seems to be stuck on G. When I first installed lee droid ROM it was working fine and I got H appearing and fast download speeds ( used traffic monitor to prove the speeds) all of a sudden it seems to be stuck on the G icon.
I have has this issue for a while, i have checked all the setting on the phone (*#*#4636#*#* and connection settings). I thought it could have been my sim, I tested my mates sim on my phone( same network). when I put my sim back it I got the H network again. This only lasted for a few days and it has now gone again.
I have done tests using traffic monitor I only get speeds between 21 Kbit/s on the mobile network. In my archive I can see when I was connected to the H network , I was downloading 289 Kbit/s.
I have not flashed the radio yet as im not sure which one I should be using but surely it cant the radio as it was working on the H network twice.
I am running lee droid 2.6.35.14 Ace 3.2.1
band base version: 12.28b.60.140eu_ 26.03.02.26_M
Any ideas why this is happening?
I have that same issue STUCK ON EDGE
I need to revive this thread. I used ace hack kit released oct.27 and hack went perfect. I installed ARHD 6.1.3 and i couldnt get on H and also the rom itself was unresponsive and would do all kinds of crazy things. I downgraded to 6.1.1 which i had put on my brothers phone and worked great but exact same issue on the new one here. So then I tried old faithful ARHD 5.1.11 and the rom works perfect but im still stuck on edge network. I get full signal almost all the time in a 4G area but only get edge. Im set on GSM/WCDMA auto, I tried to go WCDMA only and i lost all signal and it switched itself back to auto. Im totally outta ideas. Im in canada, could it be that this phone is the Euro DHD? How can I check?
Hy everyone. After many solved problems with cm7 i have anotherone. My 3G doesnt work good. I have almost all the time E or H... and rearly 3G. On stock FroYo i had 3G all the time. What can be the problem? I had flash radio (couse gps problems) with newest version, but still there is no 3G.

well H is basicly 3G but better so you are getting a type of 3G.
Second thoughts CM7 might be displaying your 3G as H?
Aha, i didnt know that H is better than 3G. Thx.

Problem with 3g
I'm having a similar problem, but I don't see any mobile network icon at all, I've tried flashing the radio update, turning on and off but nothing.
I own a HTC Wildfire with Cyanogen 7.0.3 and my carrier is Iusacell.

Make sure your APN is correct. Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
i had a similar problem, but actually the internet didn't work at all, i tried flashing the newest radio and it worked sometimes, but not always. maybe it's a CM serious problem with some devices...
i switched back to joker dorid and now i always have 3G full speed.
