[Q] Market "First Download" problem. - Epic 4G General

Anyone know what fixes Market apps not downloading very first time you start download?
What i mean is when i first install a rom and try to download an app from market it gets stuck on "downloading" but wont download apps, apps will download eventually but it may take few minutes or few hours to start, and after the first app downloads successfully market functions without problems.
I know there is a trick to make it download quick first time, but i dont know what it is.It used to be clearing market cache or syncing gmail but that doesn't work anymore. There is a few roms that i used that have this problem, gotta be a fix for it.

Yes wrong forum but you can answer the question (assuming you know if not apologize), but what i do is when i first boot up on a new rom, i open up the market, then it will auto send me to sign in after i sign in and everything syncs up i restart the phone. When the phone boots back up, i open the market let it sit for a little while then go to menu -> downloads, and usually my previously installed apps are listed i try to install one if successful i have no market problems(btw this was all done over wifi).

Yeah tried that already it don't work

You can try signing into google talk, this fixes the initial lag, might fix this too. Sometimes I cancel and restart the download a few times which eventually works

No. This is definitely the wrong sub-forum for this thread. This sub-forum is for ROM/Kernel development.
This belongs in General.
Does this forum have a dedicated Mod? If we do, we need a second.

Hopefully you don't have a lot of important stuff, but wipe your phone completely and reflash the rom you like and try my steps.

No,my market is working fine(i don't mind waiting for first download to go through",i was asking because someone was having this issue on kanged rom that i posted,so i wanted to see if there is quick way to start first download.I will try your method next time i flash and see if it works.

I've had this issue with every rom i've tried, except for the baked snack one, and i've tried just about every rom ;p
The workaround i've found is..turn on wifi.. open up the market place and let the icons show up in your notification bar.. then turn off wifi. Works flawless for me everytime.

Can't download apps from the Marketplace

Since I updated to the new Orange .66 ROM earlier today, I can't download any apps from the marketplace.
I try and then the download just hangs saying 'Starting download' as does nothing. I've left it 'downloading' for ages but it didn't do a thing.
I can search the marketplace etc but just can't download.
Any idea?
Checked all of my data connections, everything is fine, exchange emails are coming through. Even tried it with WiFi enabled and connected.
It's driving me mad as I updated the ROM using the RUU installer which wipes everything on your phone. I now can't download the apps I need.
Sorted. Everything suddenly came back to life without me doing anything. Must have just been a minor blip for a couple of hours
It's a quite normal problem many users are experiencing. The usual fix is in fact to log in on the Gtalk app (believe it or not)
I'm using stock rom and have the same problem.

So you open Gtalk and then the downloads should start or do you have to stay in Gtalk until they're done downloading? I tried opening it and then going back to the Market Downloads and they hadn't started yet.

Post within the ROM thread you are running... This is going to be a specific issue with your custom ROM.
I'm running DamageControl v2.07.2
I just tried wiping and flashing and its still won't let me download.
Are you tryin to download something specific? Some apps in the market dont work. Like the htc battery widget and other htc apps.
No these are all apps I've downloaded before with this same ROM. Right now I'm trying for Google Voice
Try going to setting>applications>manage apps find Market.. Click on it.. Clear cache
Nope not working. The strange thing is I had just downloaded and installed Pandora just last night from the market. I'm trying to get it working through my wifi now to see if its a my cell network.
Nope that didn't work lol.
Try settings> wireless & networks> Mobile networks
If its on then turn it off and back on.. If it off, then turn it on
ALSO
setting> about phone> system update.. And update profile

sign into gtalk. i know it sounds weird but it is a fix for downloads stalling or hanging at 0%
I just read some place about the gtalk but i can't get logged into it. Seems to just sit there trying for ever.
Did you update you profile?
Its not your market.. Its your internet, sounds like you cant use anything.
The profile update failed
I can get to webpages and get email and stuff.
Does it say evdo on your taskbar next to your signal bars?
Whats your prl and pri?
PRI Version is flipz_01 and PRL is 60664 and it does say EV
And you have tried wiping factory, dalvik, and ext partition. And then reflashing a clean rom???
Make nandroid backup before, so if it doesnt fix it, you can go back to your current rom.
Also i have read here, someone had to call sprint and have them reset there profile. Or something like that. Since you cant even update your profile in settings.
you would just have to wait till tom during business hours.
yup, i had the same problem, check ur system apps if u have gtalk.apk or gtalkservice or something similiar. If not, you gota somehow put them back on, i just did a reinstall using ur same rom.
I flashed to fresh 1.1 and did a MSL reset but still can't download from the market or connect to gtalk. I also had to drive about 30 miles today to another town and tried while i was there still nothing even did the PRL and Updated Profile.
Paid apps and free apps doing this?
I had a thought but lost it as I was typing the rest of this. Sorry, will post back later if it comes back.
EDIT:
Oh yea!
Try to create a different google account and setup the phone with a whole new GMail account. I know its a hassle, but might work.
I've only tried free apps and pretty much everything under the popular free section.
I'll try the new account and see what happens.

Android market won't open

I rooted my new Epic last night using the one click root. I then deleted most of the bloatware and my phone was working fine. I may have deleted a couple of apps that I needed though accidentally. The two problems I am having are that my android market app won't open and whenever I do a hard restart of the phone my home screen apps get cleared. When I click on the Market app it flashes to a white screen for less than a second and goes to the home screen. I have tried downloading new vendor.apks and it still won't work. Any help for either of these two issues is greatly appreciated.
Try to use odin to flash a fresh di18. Search around for a thread with a tutorial (there are a lot of the, just search epic 4g back to stock or fix brick (I know your not bricked)) If this helped please hit the thanks button! Please post problems with fixing in the return to stock tread .

Thanks for the tip. I might try this if I can't figure it out soon. The only downside about this is it will wipe my contacts out right?

Your contacts should be synchronized with Google. Unless they're stored on the phone itself, they should be fine.

The New Web-based Market!!

Freaking Awesome:
http://market.android.com
IT'S LIVE NOW!!
Below are some possible download issues/solutions. These are from their troubleshooting site.
If a download you requested from the Android Market website never started on your device, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Confirm that there is connectivity on your device (contact your mobile service provider if you aren't connected)
If downloading a paid application, confirm that your credit card information is up to date by logging in your Google Checkout account
Make sure that your phone is logged into Google Talk by following these steps:
Go to your phone’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
If you’re already logged into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
Launch Talk again to sign in
Make sure that your phone has enough available space to install the app. If necessary, try uninstalling some existing applications or moving them to your SD card.
Try requesting the download again using Android Market from your device.
If unsuccessful after attempting these steps, let us know and we'll be happy to investigate further.

It will go live very soon. Some can, some can't.
Beautiful though. Good sign of things to come.
Anyone else get "Invalid Request" after trying to sign in? It looks like a site error rather than a browser one. I get the same message from multiple browsers.

i got that from the main page, but then i clicked on an app to dl and it sent me to an actual login page. i didn't login cause i didn't actually want to dl the app, i was just checking, so it might work that way.

Tried again. Working now. Might have been the traffic / popularity of the site.
Not sure if you guys watched the honeycomb announcement, but it was amazing. Made me want a tablet, and donkey punch an ipad user.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is exciting about web access to the market? Is it supposed to be better than our regular market app?
The Hotness! Logged in. See all of my apps. Can download apps from the website will sync immediately into your phone!
Way to step up android!!
You can browse on your computer, then install the apps OTA, so to speak. Easier to link to apps you like, install them without taking the phone out of your pocket, for example, that kind of stuff. It's just more convenient in some situations.
Well, I just thought of something.... does it work with custom ROM's? I just downloaded something on the net, and it hasn't really downloaded on Bionix V. Maybe I should go on over to the Bionix V thread and ask.
Unfortunately, it is so pointless right now because it can't function correctly over wifi only* connection. It just lists it in my market place under "My Downloads" and not actually installing the application.
I am using wifi only, because 3g is cut off in my office building.
*NOT on wifi but WIFI ONLY

Well I'm pretty sure all developers keep the fingerprint as the old eclair build for proper regular market access. Obviously I have no idea if this website would react differently. Who's to say it's not just as problematic on stock builds though? It is a brand new site after all.
Edit: Well I tried it out for the fun of it. It shows the download trying to take place on my phone, but the progress bar does nothing. Then again, I get this fairly often with the regular market too.

EB13 Market Issues...missing apps

I loaded up EB13 last night and had no issues until I started downloading my apps. I have Slingplayer that I purchased to watch my Slingbox on my phone while on the go. If I search the Market it is missing. At first I thought it was something with paid apps, but I noticed my other bought apps were listed. I also noticed Ringlert was not listed in the market...a free app.
If I login into the Market on a PC web browser I can find those apps with no issues. But it says I have them installed on my phone already. Umm..no I don't!
Anyone else having issues like this?
There seem to be some people, myself included, that are having issues with protected apps. I noticed that NYTimes is not showing up and neither is TMZ. I need to try a clean install and see if I still have the problem, I cannot tell if this issue is happening after a data restore from CMW, or if its a real bug. Did you do any data restore?
The problem is the market does not recognize this release as a legitimate. It will take a few days before it does. There is a fix you can apply if you search for it in the device section.

Kinda figured something like that... think that's the i9000 fingerprint fix or something like that.
Also, try to contact the developer of the app. They might be able to change something that might make it work.
Just for the Record, I'm having the same problem as well. I Installed the EB13 and Slingplayer isn't listed in the Market, I'll wait a few days to see what happens. Hopefully it's back in there cause I really don't feel like screwing around with crap.

metallica said in a previous post that there is a fix somewhere the development section. it has to do with the i9000 fingerprint. search for it.
I can not find it. I wish someone could post a link to it. And do I have to root the phone to use the this FIX?

I'm not sure about the i9000 fingerprint, but here is the Nexus One fingerprint.

And yes, you must be root to use this fix as you will be editing a system file (/system/build.prop).

This is the old fix here
Same problem. I have eight or so apps that I used to have that either can't see in the market after applying EB13, or that come up as "not found" on AppBrain now. Google customer service suggests that I reboot my phone. *sigh*

Slingplayer still missing. Missing on another phone that isn't rooted. He refuses to root his phone.
Clearing the cache won't help with this problem. It's on Google's side.
If you are rooted, you can always backup the apk file while on the old 2.1 or DK28 build when it showed up in the market, then reinstall by hand after loading EB13
This is now resolved for me.
