[Q] From What Phone Did You Switch to a Vibrant? - Vibrant General

I'm just curious to see what device everyone came from. I was using a G1 prior to the Vibrant.

mytouch 3g

A G1 that I did everything to and then some. I loved playing around with different roms and tweaks and nearly having a heart attack when I thought I bricked it at different times.

Blackberry 8820.
Ha, I think I win (so far) for worst predecessor phone.

a black mytouch 3g, rooted and fried because of all the different roms. she still works but gets too hot to hold...

I switched from a G1 to the Vibrant. From the Vibrant I swithched to the Epic 4G (over unresolved GPS issues).

I went from G1 "great device" to vibrant "big mistake" then to G2 "awsome device"....the vibrant was the worse gps issues very laggy and sound quality was bad no one could here what I was saying when driving my semi..and what the heck was. Samsung thing when they put usb port at top of device it made it hard to make calls while plug in

myTouch 3g with CM6. I loved that phone and would still be using it if it hadn't fallen into the toilet.

G1 CM6 to Vibrant.
I don't have any of the problems you mentioned with the Vibrant. The USB on the top is a bit of a PITA, but not really a big deal, I have a cell phone so I do NOT have to have a wire hanging down when I'm on the phone, so I don't see how that is a problem at all. Who charges while they're talking?

Motorola Q > HTC PPC-6800 > BlackBerry 8310 > BlackBerry 9630 > HTC Touch Diamond 2 > SGS Vibrant
I waited until I was confident that Android was what I was hoping it would be, then took the dive. I'm hooked.

I was using winblows and the hd2.

HTC hero stock, Samsung moment rooted, HTC evo 4g stock, iPhone 3gs jailbroken, iPhone 4 jailbroken, and now vibrant rooted with bionix 1.8 with ffc installed.

welcome aboard -
i came to the G2 from the Vibrant - one thing you'll notice is the absolute absence of any GPS issues - uncanny
but there are a number of other upsides to the G2
enjoy
Yeah. At first I wanted the Vibrant as well. Went to the tmobile store checked out the G2 and the Vibrant side to side and G2 it is. The vibrant felt like a cheap iphone where the G2 was great looking and had that heft I was looking for.
I'm glad I got the G2, I had the G1 when it first came out also so its great. I just got the phone today and a upgrade from using my iphone 3G on tmobile, its a very big upgrade. The iphone can not match the smoothness of android os IMO.
I'm loving this phone, the keyboard is going to take some getting used to from the G1 I used to use before the iphone but its worth it. Now I just can't wait to root the **** out of this phone like I did to my G1.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Ya I can't wait for the number port to kick in so I can play with a WORKING gps. Lol.
The samsung phones , IMO, are garbage. All the way down to the file system.
If rooting the captivate gets me on parr with G2 stock then wow look out! This G2 will rock socks!!

I just bought an Aria.

Just thought you guys should know. I'm on T-Mobile and use a Vibrant but I'm really digging the Aria's build and form factor.
Any suggestions for...anything?
I just got mine this week and love it! You're probably more advanced than I am though, since I'm guessing you have Android experience prior to the Aria... I'm coming from a Moto RAZR 2!
Currently loving LauncherPro (Plus) and Extended Controls. Those are the only 2 apps I've paid for so far.
I'm using my aria on T-Mobile and works good. No 3g in my area so no big loss for myself.

I've had mine since June and I love it.....its my first cell, believe it. Big thanks to XDA and everyone that knows a ton more than I do about the aria. XDA ROCKS!

I've had mine for about a month now... I love this little phone! Much more than any iPhone or BlackBerry I've previously owned.
(I'm an admitted phone junkie.)
Think this is a nice post to share with other new aria users. I myself am a new aria user, its also my first android phone (on s sony eriscsson previously). Loving it so far but am very curious to know it inside out.
Any idea which features are androids n which are htc sense?
Thanks!
to the OP - I have a galaxy s right now and am thinking about moving into a Aria, how do you feel about moving from the vibrant to the Aria?
Well i'm a newbie to the aria and androis os myself, but u should definitely get the XDA app to easily access the forum and get this cool sig below!

Think It's a nice bit of kit too. Customer brought one in to have the digitizer replaced.. Just spent an hour and a half trying to get the new one to sit properly.. On really close inspection, the replacement (customer supplied) is almost 2mm broader..All,.
Not fishing for business, but just a heads up to anyone that's planning on a DIY digitizer repair.

G2 For a Vibrant?

Sup you guys, I'm thinking about trading in my Vibrant for a G2. Should I do it? I don't care about the keyboard as I wont be using it. Just love the build quality of the phone and that its a stock android phone. But if y'all had a vibrant, would you change for the G2?

I also went from vibrant to G2, by choice, hands down G2 is the superior device
Man I am so happy with this G2. 1.8ghz overclock?? That's just bananaz. Has to be the fastest android phone I have owned and I have owned many of them. Vibrant, epic, captivate, Evo, nexus, G1, mytouch3G and now the G2. G2, to me, also has the best build quality too.

^^^ Same here! If the build quality isn't enough to persuade someone, all of the dev support (CM in particular) the G2 has and will receive, will push you over the edge. Hands down the best phone I have owned!! (My girl hates it though...)

Did it as well. Got my G2 two weeks ago in place of the Vibrant. I miss things (weight, thin-ness, SAMOLED display, 4" screen) but that's it.
Expected answers here
I have both in front of me right now. Comparing my vibrant running Nero (without lagfix) to stock G2 I prefer the bigger screen and multimedia playback as well as better speakers. Speed difference is negligible. The only thing better about the G2 is gps and notification led.

Meh...I had both (before I had to send the SGS back again for repair)...I would also add...
1. G2 for me has been WAY MORE dependable (I've had issues with my G2, but nothing like the ones with the SGS)
2. Again, for me - G2 was faster based on my usage (even with the slower processor)
3. G2 is much easier to manage from a software aspect. G2 drivers and device seems to be more responsive and easier to manage connecting to the computer. (Kies is a nightmare)
I too miss the SA 4" screen, sleek, lightweight form factor. but if I I have to get it replaced every week due to failed hardware or software - its not worth it.

TMO gave you a free G2 because you had your Vibrant replaced four times? I went through five MT4Gs before switching to the G2, but I didn't get mine for free. How in the hell did you accomplish that?

I would love to try the Droid X if they had a GSM version for T-Mobile.
Sony "Zues 1"
Definitely Evo.I know it's on the lowerside when compared to the hardware and amoled screen of our vibrants, but still it's a gorgeous phone.

Probably the evo.

Probably the nexus s. Strictly for the sole reason that the nexus s will have the best support from google and will always be one of the top/first phones to get an update. Upcoming phone would either be the Atrix or the Lg optimus 2x.

I think I would rather have a phone that's been out a little longer due to rom support. Plus I am still waiting for the official froyo upgrade for my nexus one thats been sitting in my closet since mid last year.
Sent from a Galaxy S far....far....away.
toss up between ns and vibrant. i don't care about sd (i have 5+Gb free on my vibrant with the stock sd card so space doesn't matter to me), but 720p video recording is nice, and i don't really care about strict vanilla android, but i would prefer to have gb and know i will be getting 2.4 or 3.0, whichever is honeycomb for phones.
otherwise, i don't think another phone thats out compares as a complete package. sure they may linpack higher, or the iphone 4 has a better screen (debatable?), but the vibrant can oc well, has the samoled, has good sound, good dev support, etc. though hspa+ would be a benefit, it's not something i care about right now cause tmob hasn't even launched hspa+ in my area, yet.
upcoming phones i'd be interested in are the lg x2, atrix, and vibrant+. i won't get any of them, i'll wait for the next round, but those are probably the front runners coming soon. and the atrix won't be tmob, which is a downside cause tmob is cheap and even regular hspa in my area is widespread and very fast.
nexus s.

I am considering the LG Optimus 2X or the LG Black. Seems as if they are the only two phones other than Vibrant + and Nexus S that will possibly be coming to T Mobile that I have any interest in.

I apolgize if there is another topic like this on this forum.
Anyways, I was just wondering what your first android phone was! And if it wasn't the epic, why did you switch to the epic? I got curious after flashing froyo on my old moment and an epic 4g theme *Nostalgia* lulz

the mighty moment was my first android phone too.. many MANY hours on SDX...
Went for Blackberry Storm to Epic. Blown away by the Epic. The only plus to the BB was the native Exchange email on the Blackberry works a lot better than the Android. Although in Froyo they did fix the embeded photos, I hate how it forwards everything as an attachment. Touchdown has fixed that issue for me, but it's a paid program.

The Epic is my first as well. Tried some Android out on the TP2 after it was ported just like Austin.
